"Just east of I-95 on Commercial Boulevard, you can’t miss this unpretentious spot’s bright orange awning. Inside, its freshly roasted on-site beans are bright, too, regularly sourced from Colombia, Rwanda, Sumatra, and other coffee meccas. Seating is limited in its intimate confines and patio, and owner/Marine Corps veteran Luis Arteaga will make you feel right at home." - Jesse Scott

Google
Cute little spot. The guy who helped me was a younger guy with a buzz cut. I didn’t get his name but he was really nice. I got an iced latte with a croissant for a good price and they were worth it. Although I was there when it was raining, they have plenty of seating outside for when the weather is nice. I’d suggest this place if you’re close by and I’d definitely come back Thank you!

Google
First of all, I walk up and there’s butterflies everywhere in the front patio section. The coffee is fragrant and rich! They make homemade syrups and the caramel one is my absolute favorite! Their pastries are big and have an authentic French pastry texture and taste. This place is such a hidden gem! Must try!

Google
Super cute. Not an area where you would expect such a place. Very chill, dog friendly, large patio, friendly service. Feels like you’re in another country. It’s cool to watch them work the beans. I support small business but was disappointed with how much ice they put in my cold brew. It was gone in 3 sips leaving a whole cup full of ice. $5 was a bit steep for the amount of coffee received. It had a rich and full flavor profile with slight hints of vanilla.

Google
So happy I stumbled upon this gem! Calusa roasts their coffee beans in house and what a lovely scent to walk into when you're jonesing a cup of joe. I look forward to future visits and trying more on the menu.

Google
As someone who’s very picky about coffee, this is the kind of place I love. The vibe is relaxed and unpretentious but they respect the coffee, as one would expect from a coffee roaster. When trying out a new (for me) place I try the basics first, so I got a pour over and, it was the most delicious, perfect cup, balanced and beautifully extracted. My husband got a lavender sage iced tea that was lovely. I wish I lived closer, I can’t wait to go back.

Google
They are the best coffee in town. I’m just passing thru Fort Lauderdale, but upon searching Google for coffee, this is really the only logical choice unless you are one of those strange StarDunkinBucks drinkers of horrible coffee. This is a micro roaster. It’s dank. Roast the beans right there in the shop. You can smell the amazing aromas from outside when you walk up. Excellent. Stop scrolling and start heading over now!

Google
In the area for the day and typed in coffee. Came across Calusa, and read a review about the owner being hands on and taking pride in their roast and knew I had to make a stop. I ordered a caramel cappuccino and a ham and Swiss croissant. Absolutely delicious and very fresh! They have beautiful outdoor seating to enjoy your fresh brew and pastries before the sun gets too warm. Can’t wait to plan my next trip and come back!

Google
I deleted my initial review and am writing a new one. A LOT had happened since then. Calusa is still king. Many of the coffee shops in fort laudie have closed, but not Calusa (or Wells Coffee, a solid runner up). There's a reason why. Freshly roasted, and exquisitely served, this is easily the best roasters in So Fla. Louis is the owner, nice guy, we developed a love hate relationship over the years. Sarcasm and snark are his second language.=-) But no matter how much I wish it were true sometimes, his talent and dedication to his craft cannot be ignored.

Yelp
Delicious coffee at an in-house roaster! We walked in and it felt like a cool home, chill vibes and smelled so good. We met the owner Luis who answered all our questions with enthusiasm, cool guy. There's an outdoor area with lots of seating. Free parking, lots of things to look at inside while you're enjoying your coffee. They have some baked goods from a local bakery. Good steady stream of locals coming in getting their coffee to go, happy to see!

Yelp
I stopped by here earlier today with my wife and twins for our morning coffee. Whenever our family is traveling, we always try to hit up local coffee shops and on this day we went to Calusa Coffee Roasters. This coffee shop is a pretty nondescript location right off E Commercial Blvd. There is a decent amount of outdoor seating, both covered and uncovered which is good because the inside is rather small. There is also a "secret garden" around the back which is peaceful and has plenty more seating. Inside there was a place to order with some food inside cloches and then some couches. For our coffee on this morning I went with a large latte while my wife went with an iced caramel latte. The coffee here ended up being really good as it was bold and rich. It stood up to the milk and you could really taste it on the finish which I loved. My wife's caramel latte was also really good with the sweetness from the caramel and that same great coffee taste at the finish. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Our barista was nice and the coffee was great!

Yelp
Always seeking a good coffee house no matter where I am at. One of sofl better places. Coffee is their pride and joy...demonstrated by their process. Poi-over is my preferred method of enjoying coffee. I'm grateful places like this exist. Limited items to eat (sometimes none at all) but coffee remains the primary focus thankfully.

Christopher Z.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about this place. Aside from the fact that they make excellent coffee, they also roast their own beans. Luis, which I believe is the owner is extremely helpful in teaching us about some of the different aspects when it comes to being profiles and why they taste the way they do. He even brought out some four over for us to try to see how complex the flavors can be. They also have some great breakfast items although they aren't made in house. They still tasted amazing. I highly recommend taking a visit here to grab some coffee and some pastries. And on your way out, grab a bag of beans to make it home. Lastly, they have a bunch of seating both inside and out. Very eclectic and welcoming.

Yelp
Sweet little coffee shop in an off the beaten path location. Feels like walking into someone's home, with the greeting to match. Loved the vibes and the coffee. As is tradition, I try to find a local roaster to support in each city I visit, and I'm happy to have found Calusa. Walking into the little house, I found the owners/roasters seated at a table sharing some coffee and conversation. I asked about pour over options and the owner pulled a Nicaraguan coffee from his personal stash. "Elephant beans", he called them, due to their size compared to other beans, and they were true to description. The coffee had nice body and developed a sweet but earthy flavor profile, perfect to kickstart the day. I even convinced them to pull a shot of it on espresso as an experiment too. Machine and grinder weren't dialed, but it showed good potential but not worth drinking. Sadly I couldn't buy any of this coffee to brew at home, but I picked up a bag of their new river blend and I'm excited to try it.

Josh W.

Yelp
Had high hopes from the reviews and coffee images. Must have been the wrong time to come because the coffee was below average.

Fay F.

Yelp
The absolute best roastery in the area! The beans are roasted to perfection. Coffee tastes creamy, light and very smooth! The Brazilian beans are my favorite one. We always get some to brew at home too! Service is great as well. The owner and his wife are very friendly and helpful. There is also a back yard with sitting area that is quite and relaxing if you need to get some work done while enjoying your coffee :)

Cameryn J.

Yelp
A really cute local coffee shop. The staff was incredibly friendly and created such a warm and welcoming environment. They had their two dogs in the shop who were the sweetest little additions. It was also really quick service and overall just a really nice vibe. It's a perfect spot to grab a quick coffee or to do work at. I didn't try any of the food but will have to next time.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped here to get some energy and it is such a cute spot. They have outside and inside seating. This place gives you relaxing poolside vibes meets stepping into a mini vintage museum. This place is run by a husband and wife duo who are very knowledgeable about coffee. They have a roaster in there so they grind their beans in-house. My wife did a double take when she tasted her iced americano as she was not expecting it to taste that good. They did not have matcha and I was about to give up, but they had a powder called chaga ,which is after the mushroom, as an alternative. He made me an iced chagaccino latte and that was really good. I was a bit skeptical, but it hit the spot. He did not add coffee to mine, so mushroom by its self. We also shared the vegan banana walnut bread and it was fire!! My neck rolled when I heard it was vegan. Overall this place is good to chill with friends, do some work, and bring your furry friend. I definitely recommend going and I would definitely go back.

Sofia D.

Yelp
There was only 3 super small pastries for $5 each. The waiter didn't recommend them, so nothing to eat. My tea was redone 2 times, but ended up throwing it away. Small cup of tea $5. The place is not inviting. I will not go next time and I can't recommend it

Alan B.

Yelp
Incredible ambiance & vibes, best coffee in town. There is a small lot for parking try to carpool for sure.

Nancy T.

Yelp
Just. Come. Here. Wow!! They roast on premises-amazing coffee! I got their broccoli & cheese quiche-May be the best I've ever had, SO tasty!! Super friendly owners! Cozy ambiance. Love this gem!!

Abigail P.

Yelp
A true gem! Hidden in plain sight. I'm happy I decided to visit Calusa this morning. You have the option to sit outside and inside if you choose. The inside is decorated so home-like/cozy. I ordered their iced caramel latte and it was so smooth and fruity. The coffee itself had a sweet , fresh taste and had no bitterness. If you're feeling hungry they offer various pastries- some vegan options to pair with your coffee. On my visit today I had the opportunity to converse with the owners of Calusa Coffee. They were down to earth and informative. They gave me a brief history of the shop and the process they go through to roast the coffee beans. The coffee is roasted onsite- you have the opportunity to witness this whenever they roast. I highly recommend Calusa. Go for the coffee, food and the experience

Daniel N.

Yelp
After being in Fort Lauderdale for a week it seems we finally found the best coffee in town. Sure there are other decent coffee shops although they are far and few between. This, however, is superlative. The coffee is hosted right on the premises and you can see the roasting process going on as you drink your coffee. Beans are clearly carefully selected and the coffee is nice and strong, but not bitter. Highly recommended for the coffee connoisseur.

Eric K.

Yelp
First time to Fort Lauderdale, first time to Calusa. This coffee shop was the closest, reasonable looking shop to the office I'm working out of for the next week, so it was my first trip upon landing. They were unbeknownst to me, actually just closing when I pulled up, and the owner reopened the doors, fired up the espresso machine, and made two drinks for me. I grabbed an iced latte with oat milk, and it was a solid. The espresso itself tastes great, and oat milk is usually hit or miss for me, but theirs had great texture. I'd have liked to work in the shop; it felt cozy, but duty called. Big thanks again to the owner for the great customer service!

Deborah N.

Yelp
After a week in Fort Lauderdale area, and on our departure date, we finally found excellent espresso lattes. We are coffee snobs from Seattle and have a professional machine at home (Rocket Mazzafiatto) His beans are roasted to perfection!

Patricia B.

Yelp
Great service & delicious cappuccino. Starting my birthday celebration with a cappuccino and my daughter had an ice coffee with almond milk. Great little spot!

Ariel W.

Yelp
After a morning of shopping I was in the neighborhood looking for a shot of caffeine and a bite to eat. I remembered coming here for an Elite event and had always meant to get back here and today was the day. The story behind Calusa Coffee is very interesting. Calusa was purchased by Marine Corps Veteran Luis Arteaga. Love our veterans. Arteaga didn't know very much about coffee when he sought his next step after leaving the military. He came in one day looking for coffee and ended up leaving with a job. He was taken under the guidance of Calusa founder Steven Hodel. Six months after working as a barista he tried his hand at roasting while Hodel was on vacation. After some trail and error he was able to learn the roasting process. Less than a year after he started, he became the business owner when Hodel wanted to sell. Calusa Coffee specializes in small batches of coffee and they roast it in house before brewing. In addition to the coffee shop/cafe and they also operate a wholesale business. You order at the counter and then you can sit inside or outside on their patio. Today I had a cappuccino and a ham and cheese croissant ($10). Their coffee is delicious. It is miles above those corporate coffee chains in terms of taste and quality. My croissant was fresh and equally delightful. I love supporting a small business and Calusa is worth going out of your way for. Thank you a latte Calusa!

Sean O.

Yelp
Great Homely Ambience! Love the vibe and Coffee was amazing! Definite a go to if you're in the area!

Lachlynn W.

Yelp
Delicious coffee and a "small town feel" my dad was visiting for two weeks and by day 3 of going to Calusa the owner was able to start making his order as soon as he walked through the door. There's something about customer service that just makes things worth it. We love having Calusa in the neighborhood and will continue to support it!

Ryan Y.

Yelp
Really great roasting and brewing. Glad we discovered this gem, and highly recommend for real coffee lovers.

Lani B.

Yelp
The beans are brilliant. Very tasty. I knew nothing about what we needed and didn't need to! Very helpful and knowledgeable. Ended up staying for a coffee with my dog and was very very cute and relaxing.

Top R.

Yelp
amazing coffee. they've roasted right there It's so smooth you do not even need to use sweetener. It's also a wonderful little

Howard H.

Yelp
After I picked up my Elite Gift Pack, we went in and ordered a couple of drinks. This place may look like a small coffee shop, but it feels very cozy. My wife and I ordered a couple of ice coffee and they were pretty good. I usually drink my coffee black, but if you need brown sugar or cream, they have it on the desk by the wall. There are a couple of tables and chairs outside, so you get to have your drinks while enjoying the nice weather. Parking might be a bit of a challenge because they only got a few spots in front of their shop. But you can park on the street and walk over.

Aaron B.

Yelp
Beautiful layout and vibe... appears family run, good coffee, vegan snacks and other pastries. Service was friendly, prompt and helpful in deciding what might be best for me.

Blue A.

Yelp
Three years since my first review here. It's time I write an update. On this #ThankYouThursday, I want to thank Calusa for the endless amounts of quality espresso I've consumed here. This is some of the best coffee I've ever had - anywhere. From midday pick-me-ups to pre-brainstorming fuel, early morning must-have-caffine to surprise my gal with a coffee, I'm so grateful for my neighborhood coffee shop. I'm also thankful for Luis! Sure, for the amazing coffee, but also for the conversations we've had during non-peak times. A simple chat goes a long way - especially during the pandemic. In the last few months we've had our share of 6-feet apart chats, through masks. From podcast discussions to show recommendations, guesses on when this will all be over to updates on his business, those chats and human interaction have brought a little normalcy in these crazy times.

Kevin A.

Yelp
Awesome cup of coffee. Very tasty and really smooth. Locally owned and operated with the beans roasted on site.

Mark M.

Yelp
When here for coffee on a Saturday and talk to the owner of that on how he runs his operation. They roast the beans themselves and service other restaurants with their coffee beans as well. We ordered a couple of coffees and they tasted pretty good. Place is not that big inside but it also has some tables outside with some chairs. Service was fair and decent.

Del K.

Yelp
Great coffee and service!! If you want a great coffee with comfortable seating with a friendly vibe, this is the place.

Jaquie M.

Yelp
Came by yesterday for an iced latte and they had a medium roasted Brazilian bean with low acidity for the day which was perfect! They roasted the beans yesterday and tasted great! Well folks, I found my favorite coffee shop in FLL!

Ronnie ..

Yelp
Great coffee, great service, great aroma and just an all around great experience. I ordered an Americano and was not disappointed.

Sinead P.

Yelp
Super cute coffee shop with great customer service. I had an Americano and the beef empanada which were both great. They roast their beans in house which is a huge plus. I love supporting local business instead of chains. Stop by if you want a delicious cup of coffee and to support the community.

lance t.

Yelp
Best coffee in town by far! You can really taste the freshness. Also They roast right in house so you're not getting old moldy beans like a lot of these other places. Highlyyyyy recommend

Mayrobis M.

Yelp
Their coffee and pastries was delicious! My hubby and I will definitely come back. We'll back be back soon

Jennifer C.

Yelp
First time here. It was easy to access. I don't know much about it yet. I got a Chagaccino-which is a coffee with half and half and mushroom powder and monk fruit sweetener. Delish! I also got a Mocha for my daughter. Brewed and added to dark chocolate. My daughter really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to buying some coffee to make for myself. Ambiance-cute and farmhouse style. A couple places to sit. A couple of pastries and a couple pieces of quiche to nibble if you like. We went around 9 am, so I don't know what it's like at 7 am. I recommend this place! You should set try it.

Ashley K.

Yelp
First time trying this place and I love it. I ordered the chagacinno (which is made with chaga mushrooms, but also has espresso in it) over ice with oat milk. The flavor was perfect; not too sweet, not too bitter, and was velvety smooth. Just what I needed today. #happymonday

Rabia J.

Yelp
Fantastic coffee shop in Oakland Park, FL. The service, drinks, eats were amazing. The best part for me were the books they had lined up on the book shelf. I had a few minutes to spare so I browsed through some diverse reading material. I did this while enjoying a well crafted strong latte and scrumptious almond chocolate croissant. Their menu is pretty simple but I think it resonates to quality over quantity in the offerings. Their drink menu includes; lattes, cold brew coffee, macchiatos, cappuccinos, iced lattes, espressos, pour overs, and Americanos. About their coffee beans- they have in-season beans from around the world. They roast them in house and it's in small batches to get the quality just right. Their sitting space is cozy indoors with a few tables/benches and some great books. They also have some seating outdoors for the great Florida weather. A great local place for coffee, check it out.~

Rob P.

Yelp
Enjoyed my coffee from Calusa and had a nice chat with the barista. No drip coffee which I understand, but I really thought their Americano price was a bit crazy. After tax... which by the way why is there tax on coffee when that's supposed to be exempt in Florida? Anyway, after tax my 16oz drink was $4.55. That's just too much in my mind.

John L.

Yelp
If you haven't tried this place you're missing out. It's not a hobby coffee shop like so many out there. The owner and his wife are serious professionals. Coffee is roasted on site everything is top quality.

Naomi S.

Yelp
This review is for their pop up location located in Alligator Alley Harley Davidson in Sunrise which we didn't realize was there. I had Calusa bookmarked but haven't made it north for the visit so I was very happy to find them there. We met Luis (who I believe is the owner) who told us that they are at Harley every weekend. Luis explained that they roast all of their coffee themselves. They sell their coffee to hotels and restaurants and luckily to the public. I really enjoyed the latte that we ordered. The coffee was so smooth and the foam was so rich and perfect! It didn't dissolve as soon as you stirred it which happens with some other coffee places. Luis told us that they can also do private events. Definitely a good first impression and a new destination for a java!

Farhad R.

Yelp
Such a gem in commercial Blvd! They roast their own coffee so every single of coffee that they serve is fresh and with amazing sour taste! They provide limited variety of bakery items but they are fresh and great May h with their coffee!

Wen S.

Yelp
Love little coffee shops that are hidden away from the commercial businesses. I had a cappuccino and it was actually very good. They offer maple and honey and even have brown sugar. This was a plus for me. It has a home feeling when you walk in. A very big outside seating area. My beautiful date had a macchiato. Definitely worth it to stop by and have a cup of coffee.

Darien B.

Yelp
This place was cute - it had a laid back feel but yet attentive to customers. *Now the coffee, oh oh oh,,, so tasty, rich, flavorful, fresh. We ordered 2 cortados which were spot on- the milk, nice and creamy the espresso, shining right through - The double shot was very complex and delicious to drink - no bitterness or sourness - well balanced and nicely dialed in. Thank you!

Andrye A.

Yelp
As a coffee critic or what I like to consider myself I really enjoyed how this coffee shop had all the south Florida vibes. It was even cooler to see the coffee roaster inside the coffee shop. This is definitely a cool coffee shop to check out in south Florida!

James R.

Yelp
Calusa Coffee is located in a converted house. While the immediate area is somewhat gritty, the roaster creates a pleasant environment. They do have their own roaster and serve the standard barista made drinks. Calusa has both inside and outside seats to sip your coffee. The coffee was decent although they had less emphasis on the "artistic design" that you typically find in similar higher end speciality coffee shops.

Ayesha R.

Yelp
First time at this establishment for a yelp event. I am not a coffee lover but this was my first time drinking it and it was amazing. This establishment makes their own coffee grounds by scratch in house. Fresh in house coffee. They also have great treats to eat. It has options for vegans and non dairy so awesome. I had the vegan empanada. My friend had the spinach and the croissant which they said it was amazing. I would recommend this place if you want a good cup of coffee and snack to relax outside or inside. Super cute cozy establishment come check it out . This gives you the relaxing vibes and so calming. The quiches are only on the weekends fyi.

Rachel S.

Yelp
This is a small coffee roaster shop with a local feel and quality coffee. It's designed well inside with basic and fitting design elements. I was hoping for a vanilla latte, but the barista didn't have any flavors, so my latte was plain. It's awkwardly located off of Commercial BLVD in what looks like it was once a home. Parking is easy out front. There's nothing else around it worth visiting. I like to support local, but there's nothing that strongly draws me back here. I may be back. I may not.

Uri O.

Yelp
Great neighborhood coffee house. Friendly, attentive good coffee and service. I like to support local owned business and is a place you can do that.

Jennifer F.

Yelp
I cannot love Calusa enough! We stopped in on a Sunday morning after breakfast for some caffeine. I loved the sweet kitty that greeted us when we walked up! Serious brownie points from the animal lover! (PS: He needs a name!) Steve welcomed us in and gave us the whole rundown of the operators and how they came to be! They sell their on-site roasted coffee bagged and wholesale but I'm so glad his wife convinced him to do individual coffee orders because this coffee is out of this world. I ordered a caramel flavored macchiato style espresso. I cannot recall which coffee flavor/type he was serving that day but I've never tasted fresher coffee in my life. It was a gorgeous day and we sat inside at one of the tables with all the windows open enjoying the breeze drinking our coffee. Extremely relaxing environment and a great place to work, meet a friend or have a meeting. Will definitely be returning for some more special brews from Calusa!
