Why Trixie Mattel Invested in Milwaukee’s Oldest Queer Bar | Eater

"An established Auckland cabaret opened in 1996 that, under the later ownership of Kita Mean and Anita Wigl’it, became a prominent platform for diverse drag arts. With long-running shows like Drag Wars (and programming influenced by the owners’ House of Drag), the venue has functioned as a training ground for emerging performers—including drag kings and non-binary artists—and helped launch many local acts into national and international competition." - Dan Clapson

What an experience! Took my girlies to their first drag show and it was incredible. Everything from the gorgeous girls, ambience, food and many laughs were just brilliant. You get to keep the souvenir cups which is a cute memory. Food tasted so homey and just what we needed before continuing the night. Bar Manager and Bartender pushed drinks out the whole time and did an awesome job. Not only the girls performances were so fun and enjoyable to watch but their service throughout the whole night were so attentive and glamorous. Met some incredible people and would highlyyyyy recommend anyone to book for either an occasion or just to try something with friends.

“Best view on Karangahape Strip!” An exciting and thrilling night! Definitely will be a night to remember. 100% would recommend to anyone trying to plan a Birthday/anniversary or just to switch up the average date night! Everything is amazing! Thank you to all the beautiful Ladies & Men who provided us with an amazing night.

What a great night! Every single person from the kitchen team, the girls and the bar star were excellent. Thank you so much for a good laugh and overall amazing attitudes. I highly recommend Caluzzi - the food was delicious and the entire night was extremely thought out and planned very well. :)

We had our sister stage night there on Friday 12 September, we had the best experience with the ladies. If you want to do something different I highly recommend checking them out. Ngā mihi

I recently had the pleasure of attending a quiz night where Anita Wigglet and Ruby were performing. It was a fundraiser and can’t have been an easy gig. These ladies ever the professionals absolutely blew the house down and rocked us all. They didn’t have a dressing room, had to stand and dance the entire three hours. It was impressive . I would recommend these Queens for any occasion. You simply don’t get to see true Masters of their art and Professionalism like this anymore. I’m honoured to have been lucky enough to be there. Thank You x

We had the best time at Caluzzis!!! Expect pure queer entertainment with delicious drinks and an out of this world menu, the queens were nothing short of hilarious and stunning in every way. So awesome to see queer spaces like this around7 Auckland, this is what we need more of! The show was phenomenal, Broadway would be so lucky to have these queens! We will definitely be back for more shenanigans in the future -love your favourite lesbiatarians in the back

We had a ladies night and thoroughly enjoyed it! We booked well in advance, the venue is small and I imagine gets booked out really quickly. Be prepared to book a few months in advance. The show was very well organised!! There wasn't a moment where we were 'waiting'. The performers had amazing costume changes, awesome dance routines and there was an opportunity for photos. The food was good! There was chicken, lamb and veg options and everyone enjoyed their meal - lamb fell off the bone!! But just remember you're not going for the food, so don't expect a master chef meal. We arrived at 7pm and walked out at about 11.30pm so it's a full evening event. We paid $20 per person deposit, then $99 each a couple weeks before. This cost included the show and food, you have to pay for drinks at the end of the evening. You need a credit card to open a tab for the table. Downside: The tables were very squashy, we had 5 people on one side of the table that should've been 4 people, but we made it work. Overall, we had a fantastic evening!! I would definitely go again!!

Yelp
The guys at Caluzzi have been putting on cabaret drag shows for years, catering mainly to groups such as hen's nights and corporate events. It's quite weird to go to a gay venue that's almost entirely populated by straight people, but it works for the folks at Caluzzi. The queens who perform are amazing - they look great, they're really funny and will give the straight men in the room a run for their money if they look a bit frozen during performances. If the entertainment doesn't get you, the food will - try the oven-roasted chicken breast with spinach and cream cheese stuffing; ridiculously decadent, just like Caluzzi likes it!

Yelp
A great night out with a group! The girls are so much fun, they put on a fantastic show and the food is delicious, try the chicken breast or steak!
