Why Trixie Mattel Invested in Milwaukee’s Oldest Queer Bar | Eater

"An established Auckland cabaret opened in 1996 that, under the later ownership of Kita Mean and Anita Wigl’it, became a prominent platform for diverse drag arts. With long-running shows like Drag Wars (and programming influenced by the owners’ House of Drag), the venue has functioned as a training ground for emerging performers—including drag kings and non-binary artists—and helped launch many local acts into national and international competition." - Dan Clapson

My sister and I took our Mother here for her 75th Birthday on a spur of a minute last decision and what a treat that decision turned out to be. The food my goodness to start with was amazing…the lamb shank just melted off the bone. The cocktails were so yummy and most of all the atmosphere and entertainment were just stupendous. Kita Mean and the girls were absolutely brilliant and just the best energy to be around. When I dropped my Mum off she turned to me and said “Thankyou so much for that darling. I really enjoyed that” It’s hard to surprise a woman who’s been all around the world and seen it all so this idea was a winner. I highly recommend Caluzzi for the experience and to throw on the roster. Great for Birthdays, work parties or just a date night. It’s all inclusive fun. We are looking forward till next time. Thankyou Kita Mean and all the girls and boys of Caluzzi for a wonderful night! 🥳👯‍♀️♥️⭐️

Best night ever we’ve ever had as an EOY team outing. The Queen Kita Mean and the team, love the atmosphere, amazing performances, great services, foods and drinks. We enjoyed every second of it. Thank you for having us.

The hosts were fantastic!! 10/10 for sure, but unfortunately everything else fell short and didn’t justify the $129 per person, plus the $100+ we spent on drinks. Our table was right next to the kitchen, which meant we had no view of the show; instead, we spent the evening looking at backs and bums (nice ones, but still not the performance we paid for). The food was disappointing. The lamb option became unavailable due to a kitchen mishap, so we were forced to have chicken instead. When offered a choice of mushroom sauce or jus, we later discovered the mushroom sauce had run out, leaving us with a completely different meal we hadn’t wanted in the first place. To top it off, the cupcake dessert was barely thawed when served. The dance performance itself lasted only about 10 minutes, and once again, because of our seating, we only saw the performers’ backs. Additionally, I think they should consider reducing the number of tables to allow more walking space and comfortable seating. We had to squeeze sideways just to get through the front door to our table, and as a group of four we were crammed around a table clearly meant for two (the same issue was happening at another table of four nearby). While the hosts were genuinely lovely, the overall experience was not what I expected and certainly not worth the $129 price tag. That said, others seemed to have a much better time — those who had good seating, received the meals they ordered, and weren’t served half-frozen cupcakes. If you are thinking of coming and are in a small group, I would definately recommend asking where you will be seated as being seated where we were totally diminished our experience. Experience was: 7pm-11.45pm 7-8pm; 1hr of waiting for people to arrive, ordering cocktails ($24 for first one comes w a souvenier cup then $18 for refills. Quite tasty), hosts walk around and make chitchat, served garlic bread 1 slice each 8-9pm; alot of waiting in between things, photo taken outside w hosts, waiting while other tables get their photos, comedic chitchat from host, served the soup (about 4 tablespoons worth) 9.30ish-10.30ishpm; interactive experience, hosts talks to guests, ask where theyre from etc, everyone does a YMCA freestyle dance as table vs table 10.30ish-11.45pm; main and dessert served, show put on while dessert is being eaten (10 min show) I guess coming from watching a recent drag show that cost less, i expected more performing/dancing & a better viewing spot than BEHIND the hosts/dancers (photo attached of view)

I saw Caluzzi on my way to Henderson and looked it up, I made a reservation and went the following day. The staff was great and efficient at balancing entertaining the crowd and transitioning between courses. Probably not the best place to go solo unless you want to sit at the bar. I was in a corner with limited views as well as no visibility when they went outside. That was my only complaint. The food was fabulous. I enjoyed the garlic bread and soup and the lamb shank was falling off the bone it was so tender.

What an experience! Took my girlies to their first drag show and it was incredible. Everything from the gorgeous girls, ambience, food and many laughs were just brilliant. You get to keep the souvenir cups which is a cute memory. Food tasted so homey and just what we needed before continuing the night. Bar Manager and Bartender pushed drinks out the whole time and did an awesome job. Not only the girls performances were so fun and enjoyable to watch but their service throughout the whole night were so attentive and glamorous. Met some incredible people and would highlyyyyy recommend anyone to book for either an occasion or just to try something with friends.

The Drag Cabaret Show was amazing. I had a lovely time. The Show was a full night's experience but was extremely engaging throughout. My lamb shank meal was beautiful - the rest of the food was delicious but small - though I don't think you are going for the food. Sorry chef.

If you’re after a night full of fun, laughter, and pure entertainment, Caluzzi Cabaret is the place to be. From the moment you walk in, the energy is high, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the drag queens run the show with wit, charm, and incredible style. The Queens are gorgeous and talented, juggling comedy, dancing, and table service all at once. Trinity, Nivalia and Miss Ling Ling were all adorable-and made us feel really welcomed. The food was great, the drinks kept flowing, and the audience interaction made it even better. It’s more than dinner and a show; it’s a feel-good experience that celebrates humour, individuality, and joy. Whether you’re with friends, on a date, or celebrating something special, Caluzzi guarantees a night you won’t forget. I left with a full stomach, sore cheeks from laughing, and a huge smile. Highly recommend-we will definitely be going again. Absolutely awesome night out!

We had a ladies night and thoroughly enjoyed it! We booked well in advance, the venue is small and I imagine gets booked out really quickly. Be prepared to book a few months in advance. The show was very well organised!! There wasn't a moment where we were 'waiting'. The performers had amazing costume changes, awesome dance routines and there was an opportunity for photos. The food was good! There was chicken, lamb and veg options and everyone enjoyed their meal - lamb fell off the bone!! But just remember you're not going for the food, so don't expect a master chef meal. We arrived at 7pm and walked out at about 11.30pm so it's a full evening event. We paid $20 per person deposit, then $99 each a couple weeks before. This cost included the show and food, you have to pay for drinks at the end of the evening. You need a credit card to open a tab for the table. Downside: The tables were very squashy, we had 5 people on one side of the table that should've been 4 people, but we made it work. Overall, we had a fantastic evening!! I would definitely go again!!

Yelp
The guys at Caluzzi have been putting on cabaret drag shows for years, catering mainly to groups such as hen's nights and corporate events. It's quite weird to go to a gay venue that's almost entirely populated by straight people, but it works for the folks at Caluzzi. The queens who perform are amazing - they look great, they're really funny and will give the straight men in the room a run for their money if they look a bit frozen during performances. If the entertainment doesn't get you, the food will - try the oven-roasted chicken breast with spinach and cream cheese stuffing; ridiculously decadent, just like Caluzzi likes it!

Yelp
A great night out with a group! The girls are so much fun, they put on a fantastic show and the food is delicious, try the chicken breast or steak!
