Cam Huong Closes in Oakland Chinatown - Eater SF

"Produces all the crusty baguettes and other baked goods for Cam Huong restaurants. Will remain open and serve banh mi and other offerings, but can't prepare the whole menu due to a small kitchen." - Janelle Bitker

I had the best grilled pork banh mi of my life (#7). They bake AND smoke the meat which results in a distinct, signature flavor. They also get their bread custom made. As for the donut: Nothing inside, but nutty and slightly sweet. Sesame seeds make a difference! I can’t wait to come back to try the lemongrass tofu banh mi as I’ve heard that the owner is vegetarian and this is her special order. The chicken noodle soup is also supposed to be amazing. Lastly, I want to support this business because the owner has a kind heart. She has a contract with the state of California to supply the prisons with her food. The prisoners apparently (and as one would guess) get pretty blah food.

Bought a bbq pork bun from the baked goods shelf, and it was really hard and meat was strangely sour tasting. Really hope we don't get sick from it. Should have read the reviews before going here.

I echo the previous review about this place selling stale items. The baked pork bun that I got seemed like a few days old. It was hard as rock and tasted bad. The mooncake seemed like a month old as well. It was bad! Wasted my money. Don’t patronize this place until they get their shit together.

This is my go-to place to get Vietnamese sandwiches in Oakland Chinatown. Besides Banh Mi sandwiches, it offers packaged small French breads, Asian baked goods, snacks, big muffins, and drinks and Vietnamese desserts in the fridge. Although there are a couple of tables inside, people usually come here for takeouts. I ordered my favorite, grilled pork sandwich with extra meat, which had a good amount of fillings and the bread was toasted and crunchy on the outside.

So cheap and tasty! Seriously, it’s like $3.50 for a whole sammie. Makes me want to crammie them in my pajammies and do a double whammy. Get two and you’ll be full of bread and meat happiness. The baked goods were a bit dry though, so stick with the freshly made sandwiches if you can resist!

Selling stale bread at a bakery is unethical. What's worse is they literally put this bread on baking sheets in a rack to make it appear fresh. Look how hard and stale it is in the video. Only $1.50 but I'm sorry, it should be labeled "day old".

Cool vibe but stale food. Ordered coconut bean jelly drink and somehow the coconut milk has already gone bad. Asked for some help or another drink and was told no refunds and no English. Good times.
