13 Essential New Haven Restaurants

"Westville is one of New Haven’s quietest suburban neighborhoods, but chef Arturo Franco-Camacho — also known for City Point waterfront favorite Shell and Bones — has turned a former gas station into a daily destination for contemporary Mexican street food and nightlife, proving there’s an appetite for more action in the area. Take a seat at the emerald-tiled center bar or sit on the large, semi-enclosed terrace for a view of the Central Patio, a section of street reclaimed from cars to make room for arts markets and free dance classes from neighboring Alisa’s House of Salsa. Alisa Bowens-Mercado, who owns the dance studio, is also Connecticut’s first Black woman brewery owner; pair her refreshing Rhythm Brewing lager or a pisco sour with Franco-Camacho’s braised lamb barbacoa flautas or some quesadillas featuring wild mushrooms and huitlacoche." - Stasia Brewczynski

It was fine, but too expensive. Our server Carlos was fantastic, and the ambiance was great. The drinks were delicious, but about $5 overpriced each. The food tasted pretty good, but the portions should have been bigger for the price. It was disappointing after wanting to try this place for a while.

This is a great place for brunch in New Haven! Service was friendly, the standouts for me were the desserts. We got the creme brule, tiramisu, and tres leches. All were really good and had great presentation. Would recommend!

Camacho is a great authentic Mexican restaurant. The guacamole is not just guacamole. It has so much flavor and is so tasty.

Really enjoyed Camacho Garage, from their food and the atmosphere. Each visit, I've had a great experience, and enjoyed the flavorful food and drinks. Parking is a bit tough, but overall the spot is great!

It's a good place for food and drinks. However, we ordered one of the brunch menu items with shrimp on it. There were only 3pieces of shrimp. The waiter was good enough to give us more. We waited a long time for our food to come. The Mexican corn was okay.

Visited this spot when it first opened and loved it ! Returned few years later and everything has changed and gone down hill. The drinks are highly over priced and def a weak pour on mojitos! The food is so odd and many entrees were removed causing one to purchase more to feel even a little full. The service was terrible! The Spanish waitress in the covered outside area didn’t introduce herself and took a long time to come over. Once she was over and took our drink order it was a long wait for the drinks to arrive. Once we tried to place a food order we asked about a specials item whether it was gluten free or not due to an ACTUAL ALLERGY and was told “we are out so it doesn’t matter” talk about rude and terrible customer service! Decided to only finish our first round drinks and left the restaurant. 100% would not recommend for dinner. Maybe a drink if your lucky 🍀

Great tacos, can't go wrong with a 2 for $10. I got the veggie tacos and the fried cod taco. Both were flavorful. Vibe was nice, great music and servers were cool!

The food is always great and creative. I had a chili releno stuffed with lamb. It had crema sauce and pomegranate seeds. Wonderful flavor. Spicy margaritas was good too. Definately a more dasual and loud atmosphere.
