The Cambria Hotel Is Bringing a Restaurant and Rooftop Bars to Detroit | Eater Detroit

"I'm looking forward to a new 154-room Cambria Hotel planned at 600 W. Lafayette Blvd that Choice Hotels says is expected to arrive in 2020; the property is being promoted with “celebrity chef curated” food, local beers on tap, wine, and cocktails, and plans call for rooftop bars. I learned the celebrity chef attached to the hotel is Fabio Viviani, whose Fabio Viviani Hospitality will run the food-and-beverage program in partnership with Yellow Door Hospitality, and that Viviani previously opened Mercato by Fabio Viviani in the nearby Press Room." - Brenna Houck

We enjoyed a fantastic time at the Cambria Hotel! The doormen, especially Dujuane and Nate, Peter made our experience extremely top notch! They efficiently transported all of our belongings to and from our room as well as providing additional table and chairs for our needs. Our room was beautiful but it needed vacuuming, dusting etc. We asked housekeeping to help with this but they did as little as possible. Unfortunately, we had an unpleasant exchange with Danielle who is the reservation desk supervisor. She lacks customer service skills. What happened to owning your mistakes and the customer is right? She even raised her voice at us and was accusatory. Perhaps additional training is needed? Antonio and Dwayne made up for the negative experience with Danielle! They provided excellent customer service! Made us feel welcome and valued! The older gentleman in Sales was extremely helpful!! Overall, we look forward to a return stay at the Cambria Hotel

The service was terrible. I never received housekeeping even though I had requested it every other day of my 4 day stay. The Keurig in my room did not make hot or even warm coffee .I requested a new one be delivered. It was not. The website says breakfast is served and some locals told me it was in the past. The only option for coffee/breakfast was a coffee shop. The food was extremely basic. On new years day there was no coffee shop and the hotel restaurant was open 11-4. So, no breakfast or dinner options available. The front desk staff over my 4 day stay were unfriendly. I attempted to write a review however choice has made it that less than positive reviews cannot be submitted. This explains why almost every review is glowing. This is misleading to the consumers..I have posted my review on other websites. It's fine if you are a hotel with few amenities, just market yourselves correctly. The bright spot of your hotel was the bellman and valet staff. Promote them!

The location is nice. Walkable access to MGM. The rooms are nice and clean. The staff was very courteous and respectful. Parking lot next door was easy to use for paid parking, 60% cheaper than the valet. Also, valet option seemed helpful, lots of people were using it. There is a duckpin bowling and indoor golf in the basement, very nice touch if you don't want to leave the building. AM Buzz is a seperate coffe place on the first floor, but had good coffee and we really enjoyed the sandwiches. It is different that you need to ride an elevator to the 3rd floor main lobby, then seperate elevators to your room, but did not prove an issue. There was a banging noise a few times at night that woke me up. We heard it again in the morning and I suspect it was pipes banging/rattling.

The hotel was beautiful. Loved the fact it was an old radio station! Your staff was super friendly and helpful. We just loved Nathan, your door man. Our room was comfortable and roomy. The only weird thing was that lights kept coming on at odd hours, like during the night while we were sleeping. We had friends who said they had the same thing happening in their rooms, too. We celebrated our anniversary with friends in your restaurant and that was terrific, too. Delicious food, great Old Fashioned's and a thoughtful dessert to celebrate. Just a great experience overall!

While we didn’t stay at the Cambria Hotel Downtown Detroit, we really wish we had. Throughout our entire trip we kept coming back to the property for the 5 Iron Golf on site and the café on the first floor, and every visit made us regret not booking a room here.||Each time we pulled up, the valet staff especially Forest and George, were incredibly kind, welcoming, and helpful. Their friendliness alone made the hotel feel inviting and memorable.||The style of the property is one of the coolest mixes of old and new I’ve seen. It has so much character while still feeling modern and fresh. The energy of the place is great, and it quickly became one of our favorite spots during our trip.||Next time we’re in Detroit, we won’t make the same mistake we’ll absolutely be staying here. Can’t wait to come back!

OMG what an amazing experience we had at Cambria! Every single staff member was kind and delightful! The manager and the front desk associates were so personable and gave great recommendations of places to visit as this was our first trip to Detroit. The hotel is BEAUTIFUL! An elegant and classy feel with the decor and stunning art all around! We will definitely stay at Cambria during our next trip!

Easy check in and the handicap room that the young lady placed in was perfect for a disabled person. The having tile not carpet was the big deal and close to the elevator! And the bathroom was set up perfectly. I don’t remember the young lady that checked me but she was the night shift and she took very good care of me, even taking the time time help me with my luggage all the way to the room! Kudos !

Not many food options within walking distance (I understand that is out of the hotel’s control but it’s unfortunate for the location IMO), no room service (menu at Cibo did not look appealing and iron 5 menu did not have much of a variety in my opinion and I went for the short rib pizza). Internet was spotty. Valet workers complained under their breath loud enough to hear, also did not speak to each other professionally when one was sorta yelling at another for doing something wrong (in front of a customer, other than myself who was walking by). The man who took my suitcase to my car was very professional but I did not feel that from the others. Check-in guy rattled off info about bars/restaurant/etc location and times, WiFi info, and where elevators are to my room but it was spoken fast and too much info at once for me to retain. I assumed there would be literature or a QR code in the room for me to review the info he shared, but there was none. I called the front desk to inquire how to connect to the internet. I called back again to ask if there is a QR code with restaurant options, and there aren’t. I called back another time to ask where to locate room service menu, told there is no room service. It would be nice if all of this information is available in the room because it was just too much info to digest at check-in and I depicted irritation with my questions from the guy, I’m sure he would appreciate if that info was also provided in the rooms to save them from all the phone calls they might receive. Anyways- it was shared so fast, it felt like he spoke to complete a check-off list as opposed to connect with me in the moment. Check-out guy also lacked authenticity with his communication- he asked how I enjoyed my stay and I said “it was ok.” And he excitedly replied “loooove hearing that.” I don’t think he heard what I said, it was an opportunity to ask “why only ok?” He also never gave me eye contact through our entire exchange, he remained typing in the computer while we spoke. Oh, upon arrival to the hotel I had no idea where the front desk was. I walked up and down the hallways. Eventually saw the sign that said 3rd floor but I didn’t see it at first because there was a small group of people standing in front of it. It would be nice to have larger signs, taller signs, multiple signs.

Yelp
My wife and I wanted to do a staycation with our two young sons (5 and 7), and we could not have picked a better location. The Cambria is absolutely beautiful! They staff were are courteous and provided excellent service, the ambiance and aesthetics were flawless, and the surrounding amenities and attractions are spot on. I loved everything about our stay! In addition, I was fortunate to meet one of the hotel executives (Nick), and he is the man! Super cool guy, laid back, and showed me that he truly cares about guests having a wonderful experience. That was a tremendous bonus during our time, and I look forward to our next visit. Definitely recommend staying here for any occasion or celebration. A.T.

Yelp
Amazing common areas love every thing about this hotel! I went to Cibo restaurant which is located on the 1st floor and it was outstanding! If you want to be in the heart of the city this is the place to stay local to everything!

Yelp
Came for an event and it's a beautiful space. A luxe vibe and beautiful outdoor patio space as well. The food was delicious - we had chicken Caesar salad and a duo of desserts - the desserts were awesome. The Caesar dressing was homemade and everything on the salad was fresh and a nice size portion. Yummy fresh bread. I would for sure look forward to another event here; it's so nice to see this area of downtown getting some traction.

Yelp
We stayed at the hotel on a very busy weekend during the holiday. The staff was amazing and very attentive when called upon. The room was modern yet took you back to a bygone era with sophistication and class. The restaurants attached were wonderful whether you wanted a quick bite or a nice leisurely breakfast. We will definitely stay here again and make the most of this historic and iconic space.

Yelp
This hotel is beautifully decorated. The attention to detail is beyond compare. They have restored the building to its original art deco, mid century, modern feel. The rooms are large with a lot of attention to details, including motion, lights, and mood, lighting around the television, and under the bed. The staff we encountered in the lobby and public areas were pleasant and very helpful. The cleanness of all the public areas and rooms is impeccable. However, there were no glasses in the bathroom or at the bar in our room. In addition, the sound barrier was very poor in the room. We had a terrible sleep-or should I say no sleep- as there was a continuous banging throughout the entire night. it may have been a unit on the roof? as we were on the sixth floor. Despite attempts to alert management to this, there was no solution, offered. In the morning, we alerted the management to this problem, and the manager, Jason, simply replied, "Sorry I'll write it down," with no attempts to amend the situation. Outside of being unable to sleep, the hotel and its amenities are gorgeous!

Yelp
I received an email the day before arriving welcoming us and was excited for the stay. We then ran into some travel issues the day of and tried to call the hotel (voicemail) and went online to manage the reservation. This is where, 'At 6 PM local time', my reservation showed up as CANCELLED! Nobody warmed us, no calls, no text. The hotel never returned a call or text until midnight their time to say 'Sorry, we were overbooked and cancelled you'. If I would not have stumbled upon the cancellation on my own I would have arrived at 1 am only to find out we would not have a room! Maybe one day this hotel will be ready to properly serve customers but I personally won't risk it again.

Yelp
DO NOT BOOK A RESERVATION HERE! I have had billing concerns that have left unresolved for MONTHS! I have contacted this establishment over and over with no return phone call from management. If you want to avoid unauthorized credit card charges, I highly recommend staying elsewhere.

Yelp
Very clean hotel. Fast check in. Lobby bar is small. Nice art deco decor. Rooms facing courtyard are awful. You have to keep the windows closed the whole time because everyone can see in. The amenities in the shower and room are dollar store quality.

Yelp
Such a beautiful hotel and very close to Fords Field that you could do. That's what my family did. Theirs breakfast downs stairs and is easy to to walk around. The hotel room it self was fresh and somewhat clean. There was a couple steins on the couch and the bathroom door was broken, so there goes privacy. People like to smoke around the hotel at night time and there was a couple high people yelling in the halls at midnight, but what could you say, It's Detroit

Yelp
1:00am and the hotel music is still thumping away on a Wednesday night and the manager at the front doesn't know how to turn it down or off. Ridiculous that the only night employee cannot fix this issue. Very unprofessional.
