The Cambria Hotel Is Bringing a Restaurant and Rooftop Bars to Detroit - Eater Detroit

"A new hotel is on its way to downtown Detroit complete with new dining options. Choice Hotels International plans to open a Cambria Hotel in Detroit at 600 W. Lafayette Blvd. Among the amenities outlined in a release, Choice Hotels teases 'Celebrity chef curated' food with local beers on tap, wine, and cocktails. A representative for Choice Hotels confirms to Eater that the celebrity chef associated with the hotel is Fabio Viviani. His group Fabio Viviani Hospitality will be in charge of the food and beverage program at the hotel in partnership with Yellow Door Hospitality. Viviani previously opened a pizzeria called Mercato by Fabio Viviani inside the Press Room (located across from the future Cambria Hotel). Plans for the hotel also call for rooftop bars." - Brenna Houck

My Husband and I stayed here after a very harsh week of moving. We wanted to treat Our Selves and the Cambria has exceeded both Our expectations. It's clean, all people were friendly! The staff, people in passing, all had good positive vibes. Cibo restaurant was top tier! Staff was super nice, attentive and very knowledgeable on complete menu. The cheesecake is a Must if they have it. Top iron golf was phenomenal! Beds in hotel rooms super comfortable and the view are breath taking! I highly recommend!

Okay, so starting with the positive, it's a good location in downtown Detroit. The floors are wooden, which is also good. Now the bad: we paid $321/night to stay in this conference hotel for 4 nights. First we came to check in and no one was at the check in desk. We had to look around and knock on the office door. In the office, someone said that they'll send someone. A woman arrives to check us in. Then she takes a phone call and helps someone else as we wait in line and the line grows. We waited 30 minutes as the woman talked with a guest who had not arrived yet on the phone. She apologized and then checked us in. No one else came to help her. In the room, it was no-frills. We asked for a bath robe. Initially they said they have to charge us for it because it's only for suites. Then they gave it to us. The hallway to the room was littered with garbage. It concerned me. Then we get to the room and there's dust in the corners and hair and particles on the furniture. We spilled some yogurt on the floor and wiped it up--the napkin was black as if covered by soot. I had asked for extra cleaning prior to arrival because of my dust allergy. That obviously didn't happen. My stay was 4 nights. On day 2, we asked for extra cleaning and explained the dust. Ignored. Not until out last day did the hotel try to clean, but we were in a zoom meeting all day. When we asked for new towels, they said they'd bring them but we had to keep calling and asking before they did. We bought some milk and yogurt only to discover that the fridge in the room was broken. They came and fixed that when we asked. This place is not worth it--the staff either says no or ignores what you ask. It's definitely not worth what I paid and not a 4-star experience at all.

I love everything about the Cambria - location, lots of things to do, the restaurant and bar, rooftop space, service, decor and clean, modern rooms. I will definitely recommend that people stay here - it has the feel of a boutique hotel without the boutique high price. The decor definitely reminds me of the nearby Shinola Hotel, and honestly has very similar vibes, just tucked a little further away from the action, which can be nice, depending on what you're looking for in your stay. Everyone was so friendly from the valet to the front desk to housekeeping. I'm so glad to have them downtown.

Cambria was a nice hotel in a good area. Loved the black & gold aesthetics. The guy that check us in saw that my baby girl was in a wheelchair and gave me an accessible room with no problems. There is no self parking, valet only. I would definitely stay here again when I come back to the D‘

Primarily I enjoyed my stay at the Cambria. The gentleman who checked me in spoke very quickly. I should have asked him to speak more slowly. I don’t think he gave me a summary of the dining facilities available, and the times they are open; that would have been very helpful. It took a little bit to figure out the various elevators, and which floors they each served. There were signs inside the elevators, but the signs are small and not very noticeable. If the car was full one wouldn’t see the signs. The floor in my room (641) was apparently a bit dirty, as my socks turned gray from walking on it. I could not adjust the setting of the shower head. It as set to “pulverize.” I managed somehow. Still, I enjoyed my stay and would stay there again. Susan C

Bed extremely comfortable and room very clean. Blackout shades were top tier. Every staff member I encountered was extremely pleasant and attentive. Rooms very spacious. No microwave in room or on floor. Shower area has some rust spots. Not sure if blue tooth mirror was inoperable or l didn't know how to work it. No room service.

We really enjoyed this hotel! The decor was spectacular. I took several pictures to send to family and friends. The hotel staff was so friendly and helpful. We were not able to use the rooftop bar as there was an event there that evening. Very convenient to walk to anything on Woodward Avenue and the Riverwalk. We love Detroit and so happy to see it making a comeback! We would definitely stay at this hotel again. We tell everyone we know to go check out Detroit!!!

This hotel was clean and safe. In addition, the General Manager (whom I met on the rooftop during a jazz event), was professional, welcoming and truly a joy to talk to. The bar staff was cordial and attentive to our every need and the food was good. The ambiance of the entire hotel is very nice. Great job! IF there's one thing that is lacking is an iconic view of the riverfront.

Yelp
My wife and I wanted to do a staycation with our two young sons (5 and 7), and we could not have picked a better location. The Cambria is absolutely beautiful! They staff were are courteous and provided excellent service, the ambiance and aesthetics were flawless, and the surrounding amenities and attractions are spot on. I loved everything about our stay! In addition, I was fortunate to meet one of the hotel executives (Nick), and he is the man! Super cool guy, laid back, and showed me that he truly cares about guests having a wonderful experience. That was a tremendous bonus during our time, and I look forward to our next visit. Definitely recommend staying here for any occasion or celebration. A.T.

Yelp
Amazing common areas love every thing about this hotel! I went to Cibo restaurant which is located on the 1st floor and it was outstanding! If you want to be in the heart of the city this is the place to stay local to everything!

Yelp
Came for an event and it's a beautiful space. A luxe vibe and beautiful outdoor patio space as well. The food was delicious - we had chicken Caesar salad and a duo of desserts - the desserts were awesome. The Caesar dressing was homemade and everything on the salad was fresh and a nice size portion. Yummy fresh bread. I would for sure look forward to another event here; it's so nice to see this area of downtown getting some traction.

Yelp
We stayed at the hotel on a very busy weekend during the holiday. The staff was amazing and very attentive when called upon. The room was modern yet took you back to a bygone era with sophistication and class. The restaurants attached were wonderful whether you wanted a quick bite or a nice leisurely breakfast. We will definitely stay here again and make the most of this historic and iconic space.

Yelp
This hotel is beautifully decorated. The attention to detail is beyond compare. They have restored the building to its original art deco, mid century, modern feel. The rooms are large with a lot of attention to details, including motion, lights, and mood, lighting around the television, and under the bed. The staff we encountered in the lobby and public areas were pleasant and very helpful. The cleanness of all the public areas and rooms is impeccable. However, there were no glasses in the bathroom or at the bar in our room. In addition, the sound barrier was very poor in the room. We had a terrible sleep-or should I say no sleep- as there was a continuous banging throughout the entire night. it may have been a unit on the roof? as we were on the sixth floor. Despite attempts to alert management to this, there was no solution, offered. In the morning, we alerted the management to this problem, and the manager, Jason, simply replied, "Sorry I'll write it down," with no attempts to amend the situation. Outside of being unable to sleep, the hotel and its amenities are gorgeous!

Yelp
I received an email the day before arriving welcoming us and was excited for the stay. We then ran into some travel issues the day of and tried to call the hotel (voicemail) and went online to manage the reservation. This is where, 'At 6 PM local time', my reservation showed up as CANCELLED! Nobody warmed us, no calls, no text. The hotel never returned a call or text until midnight their time to say 'Sorry, we were overbooked and cancelled you'. If I would not have stumbled upon the cancellation on my own I would have arrived at 1 am only to find out we would not have a room! Maybe one day this hotel will be ready to properly serve customers but I personally won't risk it again.

Yelp
DO NOT BOOK A RESERVATION HERE! I have had billing concerns that have left unresolved for MONTHS! I have contacted this establishment over and over with no return phone call from management. If you want to avoid unauthorized credit card charges, I highly recommend staying elsewhere.

Yelp
Very clean hotel. Fast check in. Lobby bar is small. Nice art deco decor. Rooms facing courtyard are awful. You have to keep the windows closed the whole time because everyone can see in. The amenities in the shower and room are dollar store quality.

Yelp
Such a beautiful hotel and very close to Fords Field that you could do. That's what my family did. Theirs breakfast downs stairs and is easy to to walk around. The hotel room it self was fresh and somewhat clean. There was a couple steins on the couch and the bathroom door was broken, so there goes privacy. People like to smoke around the hotel at night time and there was a couple high people yelling in the halls at midnight, but what could you say, It's Detroit

Yelp
1:00am and the hotel music is still thumping away on a Wednesday night and the manager at the front doesn't know how to turn it down or off. Ridiculous that the only night employee cannot fix this issue. Very unprofessional.
