The Cambria Hotel Is Bringing a Restaurant and Rooftop Bars to Detroit - Eater Detroit

"A new hotel is on its way to downtown Detroit complete with new dining options. Choice Hotels International plans to open a Cambria Hotel in Detroit at 600 W. Lafayette Blvd. Among the amenities outlined in a release, Choice Hotels teases 'Celebrity chef curated' food with local beers on tap, wine, and cocktails. A representative for Choice Hotels confirms to Eater that the celebrity chef associated with the hotel is Fabio Viviani. His group Fabio Viviani Hospitality will be in charge of the food and beverage program at the hotel in partnership with Yellow Door Hospitality. Viviani previously opened a pizzeria called Mercato by Fabio Viviani inside the Press Room (located across from the future Cambria Hotel). Plans for the hotel also call for rooftop bars." - Brenna Houck

5 Stars – A True Gem in the Heart of Detroit From the moment I stepped into Cambria Hotel Detroit, I was blown away by the exceptional hospitality. The staff goes above and beyond to make you feel welcomed and cared for—every interaction was warm, professional, and sincere. The rooms are simply stunning—modern, spacious, and thoughtfully designed with comfort in mind. Every detail, from the plush bedding to the stylish decor, felt elevated and intentional. And the cleanliness? Impeccable. You can tell the housekeeping team takes real pride in their work. Cielo Rooftop deserves its own round of applause. The food was phenomenal—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The bartender was top-tier, mixing cocktails that were just as impressive as the view. This hotel is truly a gem in the city of Detroit. Whether you're visiting for business or leisure, Cambria delivers luxury, convenience, and a vibe that feels uniquely Detroit. I can't wait to return.

The stay was not luxurious nor pleasant. The hotel had an odor of musk and food that lingered the whole stay. The floors had spills and remain sticky the entire three days. No one mopped the entire stay. Could never get fresh towels when asked for and when we finally did they were dirty! The rooms were not well equipped. No microwave. No iron board but there was an iron. No make up mirror…no bottled water. The sink was clogged and it just did not meet the standards of a luxury hotel. Also the coffee shop is horrible as well. Not a real coffee cafe serving premium lattes and pastries. The only good thing about the stay was the one bell hop with lots, he was very courteous, helpful and polite. I wish I could remember his name. They need to have better management of housekeeping, a better coffee house, and equip the rooms better including buy more towels.

I could not have asked for a better hotel experience in Detroit. Great location, the rooms and hotel accommodations have a new feel, are generous and spotless. The rooftop bar and offerings (food, beverage, live DJ on the weekends) are an absolute must and highlight! They even have a personal concierge who messages your prior to, during and after your stay to make sure all is well. Customer service was superb!! We loved every second of our stay and will definitely week.

Decent stay with room for improvement. This is a pretty nice hotel, aesthetically. Modern/stylish and located where we can easily walk around to the downtown area. We arrived early and were informed of the strict 3 p.m. check-in policy, which was understandable. We left to grab lunch and came back later, but unfortunately weren’t able to check in until 5:30 p.m. due to staffing issues and our room not being ready on time. While delays can happen, this significantly cut into our plans and left us rushing to make it to an event we had that evening. The hotel has a nice rooftop patio, but the service there was underwhelming. It took a very long time to get a drink from the bar—only to be overcharged. When we brought up the issue, it was passed from one staff member to another. Staff seemed disorganized and uninterested in trying to resolve the issue. Our room was spacious, nicely decorated and relatively clean. However, the shower door didn’t work properly, and the walls are quite thin; I was woken several times during the night by people in the hallway, even though they weren’t being particularly loud. There’s no option for self-parking — when we arrived, the valet informed us it was valet only. The posted parking rate was lower than what we were ultimately charged, which was disappointing. Additionally, we never received the receipt that the front desk staff said would be emailed to us at checkout Overall, our stay was okay, though there’s definitely room for improvement. I’d consider staying here again, but it likely wouldn’t be my first choice

Happy to finally stay at the Cambria Hotel in downtown Detroit. I visited several years ago during its construction phase, so it’s great to see how far it has come. From the moment I arrived, Antonio at the front desk and the entire team provided a warm welcome. The hospitality extended across both CIBO and the other on-site locations was exceptional. We were able to include up to 25 guest rooms for the Horatio Williams Foundation, which made the experience even more impactful. Cambria is truly a jewel in the city. I look forward to coming back!

The room was nice and check in was a breeze! Antonio was extremely polite and professional. The experience after was horrible. Valet did not open the door, and rushed us out the car while trying to gather our belongs. No concierge service was offered! Later that night, since everything in this hotel closes at 12:30am-1:00am, a group of friends and I sat In the lobby along side 2 other groups of people(keep in my we are young BLACK professionals and the other 2 groups were older white people). They approached us and said we cannot drink in the lobby however the other 2 parties in the lobby have multiple drinks and alcohol bottles on their table and had been in the lobby drinking for hours. When that was pointed out, they walked away. However, one security guard continued to harass us. She finally told us the lobby was closed and we could no longer be in the lobby, but allowed the other parties to stay. Half the hotel was booked for an event we had and the next day we all agreed to check out and spend our money elsewhere do to the experience! If this is how they treat their guests that are not white….I will never recommend this hotel. Since checkout multiple colleagues ask how the stay was, and I honestly advised it’s not with the harassment. One thing I learned as a professional is it’s not about what you say, but how you make a person feel. And for that reason I will NEVER stay here.

From the moment we walked up to the reception desks we were me with the most friendly, helpful and sweet person…JoAnn! She made sure ever was perfect and always with a smile. It’s an absolutely beautiful spot. The room was clean and spacious and the hotel offers so many nice amenities. The staff has been 5 star service!

The hotel is extremely nice, very pretty scenery/decor. The location was great everything was walkable! The basement area was fantastic, the bar workers were great, food was amazing, and the bowling/golf set it off. The staff at front desk that I dealt with were great and extremely patient with me. Really loved the Valet Parking because I wasn’t too familiar with the Downtown Area so driving was a 100% no go for me. Only concerns are; - The shower in my room was stuck to only one setting and I wasn’t able to change it - The duvet/comforter had very bad stains on it, so I believe they don’t change those as often as they should

Yelp
My wife and I wanted to do a staycation with our two young sons (5 and 7), and we could not have picked a better location. The Cambria is absolutely beautiful! They staff were are courteous and provided excellent service, the ambiance and aesthetics were flawless, and the surrounding amenities and attractions are spot on. I loved everything about our stay! In addition, I was fortunate to meet one of the hotel executives (Nick), and he is the man! Super cool guy, laid back, and showed me that he truly cares about guests having a wonderful experience. That was a tremendous bonus during our time, and I look forward to our next visit. Definitely recommend staying here for any occasion or celebration. A.T.

Yelp
Amazing common areas love every thing about this hotel! I went to Cibo restaurant which is located on the 1st floor and it was outstanding! If you want to be in the heart of the city this is the place to stay local to everything!

Yelp
Came for an event and it's a beautiful space. A luxe vibe and beautiful outdoor patio space as well. The food was delicious - we had chicken Caesar salad and a duo of desserts - the desserts were awesome. The Caesar dressing was homemade and everything on the salad was fresh and a nice size portion. Yummy fresh bread. I would for sure look forward to another event here; it's so nice to see this area of downtown getting some traction.

Yelp
We stayed at the hotel on a very busy weekend during the holiday. The staff was amazing and very attentive when called upon. The room was modern yet took you back to a bygone era with sophistication and class. The restaurants attached were wonderful whether you wanted a quick bite or a nice leisurely breakfast. We will definitely stay here again and make the most of this historic and iconic space.

Yelp
This hotel is beautifully decorated. The attention to detail is beyond compare. They have restored the building to its original art deco, mid century, modern feel. The rooms are large with a lot of attention to details, including motion, lights, and mood, lighting around the television, and under the bed. The staff we encountered in the lobby and public areas were pleasant and very helpful. The cleanness of all the public areas and rooms is impeccable. However, there were no glasses in the bathroom or at the bar in our room. In addition, the sound barrier was very poor in the room. We had a terrible sleep-or should I say no sleep- as there was a continuous banging throughout the entire night. it may have been a unit on the roof? as we were on the sixth floor. Despite attempts to alert management to this, there was no solution, offered. In the morning, we alerted the management to this problem, and the manager, Jason, simply replied, "Sorry I'll write it down," with no attempts to amend the situation. Outside of being unable to sleep, the hotel and its amenities are gorgeous!

Yelp
I received an email the day before arriving welcoming us and was excited for the stay. We then ran into some travel issues the day of and tried to call the hotel (voicemail) and went online to manage the reservation. This is where, 'At 6 PM local time', my reservation showed up as CANCELLED! Nobody warmed us, no calls, no text. The hotel never returned a call or text until midnight their time to say 'Sorry, we were overbooked and cancelled you'. If I would not have stumbled upon the cancellation on my own I would have arrived at 1 am only to find out we would not have a room! Maybe one day this hotel will be ready to properly serve customers but I personally won't risk it again.

Yelp
DO NOT BOOK A RESERVATION HERE! I have had billing concerns that have left unresolved for MONTHS! I have contacted this establishment over and over with no return phone call from management. If you want to avoid unauthorized credit card charges, I highly recommend staying elsewhere.

Yelp
Very clean hotel. Fast check in. Lobby bar is small. Nice art deco decor. Rooms facing courtyard are awful. You have to keep the windows closed the whole time because everyone can see in. The amenities in the shower and room are dollar store quality.

Yelp
Such a beautiful hotel and very close to Fords Field that you could do. That's what my family did. Theirs breakfast downs stairs and is easy to to walk around. The hotel room it self was fresh and somewhat clean. There was a couple steins on the couch and the bathroom door was broken, so there goes privacy. People like to smoke around the hotel at night time and there was a couple high people yelling in the halls at midnight, but what could you say, It's Detroit

Yelp
1:00am and the hotel music is still thumping away on a Wednesday night and the manager at the front doesn't know how to turn it down or off. Ridiculous that the only night employee cannot fix this issue. Very unprofessional.
