A Houston Family Will Appear on Netflix Baking Show ‘Nailed It’ - Eater Houston

"A new coffee shop serving up British-inspired baked goods and craft coffee will host its grand opening this weekend in Spring Branch. Cambrian Coffee, at 9461 Hammerly Boulevard, will celebrate its opening on March 13. The cafe, founded by married couple Gemma Hildred and Brian Hinkle, serves up British-inspired pastries and savory dishes baked in house, including scones and a signature sausage roll. The cafe partners with local roasters like Geva Premium Coffee, and serves both espresso drinks as well as a “slow bar” menu, with single-origin cold brews and coffees made with a Seraphim Slow Pour system. There is also tea, naturally, and lemonades made with flavored syrups, like lavender. The event begins at 7 a.m. Saturday." - Brittanie Shey

Great Coffee, but Not Ideal for Working Stopped by Cambrian Coffee and really enjoyed their flat white & sausage roll. There’s plenty of seating, which is great if you’re meeting friends or just want a casual spot to hang out. The space was quite loud, making it difficult to focus or get any work done. It also lacks that cozy, inviting atmosphere I usually look for in a café when I want to sit down with my laptop or a book. This is not the best choice if you’re looking for a quiet place to study or work.

I absolutely love Cambrian! One of the rare places where you can really tell a community loves the place. I love their seasonal menu and the staff is so amazing. My favorite coffee shop for a long time so I wanted to finally leave a review! It’s the perfect option for your go to coffee shop. Their shortbread is my favorite and the Cambrian latte!

Google
One of the best coffee shops in houston Several pastries all baked in house, rotating flavors. I love that they emphasize less sweet in their special drinks and their pastries They have good savory pastries (hard to find) the cheese and chive scone was fantastic I also got the cowboy cookie - extremely good and not too sweet - you don't feel sleepy after. I got the summer special latte with blueberry syrup and a cold brew as well. The latte was nice since it wasn't overwhelming with syrup had a nice flavor. The cold brew was Also good. Everything was slightly cheaper when I compared to other top coffee shops by about 50 cents. Makes a big difference imo. Interior is a cool theme as well Cambrian period themed

Google
We drove well out of our way to visit this coffee shop and it did not disappoint! Line went quickly and wasn’t super long - got a coffee, a matcha, a lemon loaf, and 2 sausage rolls. Everything was delicious - coffee was made super well and matcha was smooth and not too sweet - sausage rolls were the stars - well seasoned and warm. The atmosphere was great - the whole place seems to be geologist themed and tastefully is an ode to scientific and historical exploration which is fun for adults and kids alike. Lots of tables available and friendly staff.

Ordered the Cambrian latte. It was really good! My kids loved the dinosaurs' decor and outdoor mural.

Google
Cambrian Coffee is a great spot for coffee lovers and history buffs alike. The espresso-based drinks are exceptional, expertly crafted by knowledgeable baristas. The rich, flavorful coffee pairs perfectly with their delectable pastries and snacks, especially the mouthwatering sausage rolls. The shop's unique Cambrian theme adds a touch of historical charm, making it an ideal spot for history buffs to immerse themselves in the past while enjoying their coffee. The ambiance is perfect for focused work or leisurely relaxation. In my opinion, Cambrian Coffee is the undisputed best coffee shop in the Spring Branch area, offering a combination of great coffee, delicious food, and a unique atmosphere that sets it apart from the rest.

Google
Nicely done coffee…cafe has cute artistic dinosaurs as their logo and theme…all great quality products. Came on a Monday morning and most tables taken up by laptops which was annoying.

Google
This is one of the best coffee places in Houston, in terms of third wave coffee. Service is very helpful and friendly. They usually have an assortment of baked items, and I know at least some of them are made in-house. As others have mentioned, it's not a super-cozy vibe where you sit there for 5 hours and study for your final, nor do the hours reflect that kind of vibe. At the same time, it doesn't really claim to be that, and I don't think that's the intent. You go here to get quality coffee and a quick bite and friendly service, with a focus on the quality coffee. It's a bright, clean atmosphere, and worth a visit.

Yelp
The vibe, service, and food selection is amazing! I almost don't want to share this gem because it's so good! Nothing helps to start your morning like the bright smiles that greet you when you open the door! My personal favorite is the Vanilla Latte! OMG! The kolaches are also divine! No one in the area can compete with their buttery flakiness! Mercy me! And my buddy who makes the best beverages has the most FABULOUS NAILS! You owe it to yourself to check them out!
google avatar

Yelp
Cambrian is unique with the fact they are the only coffee cafes that sells British sausage rolls. However, their matcha was a hard miss of me. The matcha was poor quality and was really hard to drink but their chai was good. The pricing for all 3 items was $20.03 which is pretty outrageous. If I am to pay that much, I was expecting the matcha to be of good quality but got the opposite. A dollar extra for milk alternatives, a dollar extra for syrups, and a dollar extra for an upsize...They did however make up for it in their service and ambiance! I haven't seen it mentioned but their sausage rolls are pork just in case anyone wanted to know !

Yelp
Stopped in this morning for the first time and WOW I can't wait to come back! I live in the area and realized it's locally owned so I had to check it out. (Their branding looked so clean I thought they might be a franchise). I ordered a hot latte with Cambrian syrup and a jalapeño cheese sausage roll. The latte was perfect and the Cambrian syrup was the perfect mid-sweetness level with hints of cinnamon and honey. The sausage roll was delightfully flaky with a lovely tang and mild spiciness. You can tell these are carefully and lovingly made in-house. The shop is beautiful, airy and clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I'm looking forward to my next visit to try a few more delicious treats!

Yelp
Stopped in during my lunch break with a coworker. It's such a cute spot, the decor is absolutely adorable. Our barista was friendly and our drinks came out very quickly. I had a matcha latte with oat milk and their Cambrian syrup which is a honey and cinnamon blend. It was fantastic, I honestly wish I would have asked for more of the syrup because it was so good. The flavor of the matcha was earthy and strong enough to still taste over the syrup. Overall, I think this is a solid spot for a quick matcha break.

Yelp
Obviously very popular coffee shop with focused themed and friendly staff. Rolled though on a late Friday morning just ahead of the crowd, so even on weekdays that get high traffic. Menu is concise with some house made syrups and the basic treatments for coffee available. It would've been nice to see a few more unique flavors perhaps. The 2 people behind the counter were very chipper and happy to interact with us. Coffee came out quickly and in cutesy cups; always appreciate good branding. We also got a scone that was tasty and appropriately dry, as Richard Lewis said to Larry David "you got what you paid for". The sausage roll cabinet had a Union Jack on it , which makes me think it's the UK version of a kolache. It was flaky dough with a well seasoned uncased sausage running through the middle. Overall I liked it, but it was a tad greasy. The vibes were bright and airy. Enough seating for a dozen people or so, and they had a high chair available too! Coffee complimented the space; definitely would come back, as there's plenty of passion put into this place to keep the quality high.

Yelp
A great addition to the SB neighborhood. I like to stop by for a quick coffee fix. Plenty of tables but it was quite crowded when I was there, a mix of people hanging out, studying, or working. I love the open lighting from the all glass wall. Service was quick and friendly. I ordered my go-to ice chai and it was delish. Plenty of parking in the plaza strip and convenient location in the area. Wish they stay open a bit later in the day but understandably they close early because of they open pretty early in the day.

Yelp
Overall a pretty decent craft coffee shop for the area. Not sure if this would come to mind when I tell people about must try coffee, but if I'm in the area, this is a good staple. I like that they have specialty coffee to do their pour overs. Last time I went, I got an Ethiopian bean pour over and it was delicious with bright flavors. There's decent seating areas with a mix of high and low tops. I do wish there were more outlets, because if you're seated by the windows, there's not as many options. If you grab a booth though, you'll be able to snag an outlet. The service was good and the staff were able to give good recommendations.

Yelp
Love this coffee spot was given a pay it forward token back in 2020 and have never used it until today...so glad they don't expire. I order nitro cold brew and Carmel latte. Both were sooooo good. Nitro cold brew made my hair follicles tingle which is a very good thing! Smooth and creamy. I love that the whole establishment reflects dinosaurs and that era. The staff know their regulars and they stay busy. Friendly, knowledgeable and customer service friendly forward!!!!! Clean and cute bathrooms! Parking is small but overflow goes to gas station Nextdoor. Saw customers on zoom meetings, studying and catching up with friends. I will be back!

Yelp
Such a cute, simple place located in Spring Branch! I came on a Saturday morning around 9:30am, and while there wasn't a long line yet there were quite a few people coming in/out. I had the fall specialty iced pumpkin latte and an original sausage roll. I liked how the flavored lattes are never overly sweet, even for a pumpkin flavor. The sausage roll was good, nothing over the top. I'd recommend getting the chili over the original though.
google avatar

Cristal M.

Yelp
Coffee, food and service is awesome. I loooved the iced coffee! I ordered the pumpkin bread and blueberry white chocolate scone on the side. Also, this is a very chill spot to do homework or meet up. Support your local small businesses!

Yelp
Cambrian is a local coffee shop in the Spring Branch area. I grew up on this side of town and never had anything like this, but it is nice to see the neighborhood growing in diversity! I am a sucker for a nitro cold brew and I think Cambrian is one of the best I've ever had! Their sausage rolls are also unique and mimic a kolache, but with flaky bread and the sausage has a texture similar to boudin. Their service is always on point with awesome friendly staff!

Yelp
Cambrian latte - 7.5/10 - $6.50 - Honey and cinnamon latte, which is their specialty. The quality of the espresso was great but they did warn me their syrup flavors are light which was true. The honey and cinnamon flavors were very light so for sweet coffee drinkers this would be too bitter.
google avatar

Allison K.

Yelp
Super cute spot for coffee! The interior is spacious and decorated so well in accordance with the Cambrian Era (even the pictures hung up in the bathrooms were super fun to look at)! They also have merch and other cute coffee-related items for sale next to the register. I ordered the Chai Latte and the original sausage kolache. The chai latte was pretty good but the kolache was delicious! The pastry was warm with a flaky exterior and the sausage filling was juicy and flavorful. On top of the great ambiance and food, the service here was quick and friendly. This is definitely a fun spot to either hang out with friends or study (they have outlets for charging).
google avatar

Yelp
This is the second time I've been here in this coffee shop and to be honest, it's really good! Their classic sausage rolls is to die for! And the Cambria latte! *chefs kiss* The service is impressive. Very friendly and very helpful if you're trying to figure out what you want to drink.

Yelp
I visited this newish coffee spot in the approximate center of Spring Branch on a busy Friday. Some of these new coffee shops have an obvious theme going...and theirs is the Cambrian period of geology. Their logo is a trilobite, for example. They have your usual variety of coffee and past ries, but what makes them a little unique is they are also serving british-style sausage rolls, basically a British version of a sausage kolache, using flaky croissant-like bread. They offered 2 styles of rolls during my visit, original for $4, and spicy Chipotle for $4.50. I ordered a cambrian iced latte (honey and cinnamon homemade syrup) and a spicy chipotle sausage roll. They served my food in a to-go pouch, even though I indicated I was eating here. The man behind me was given a plate for his food. I'm not sure why I wasn't, but he was. Since the roll is so flaky, it makes a big mess on the table. Inside is pretty modern with a few things on the wall, like a geological time scale and a long definition of "cambrian" for customers to read. Overall, they offer friendly service and a nice clean place to sit, read, study, or whatever.
google avatar

Courtney C.

Yelp
Vibe- This is a nice coffee shop near Spring Branch. There's a few spots to sit outside and seating inside. This would be a nice spot to come to if you need to study, get some work done, or just hangout. Customer service- Great! Food/drinks- I got a hot chai latte with oatmilk and it was so tasty. Parking- There's a good amount of spots in the lot the building sits in.

Yelp
Drinks were good and coming back to try their lemonade! Staff was very welcoming and friendly. The shop was cute and clean with indoor and outdoor seating.
google avatar

Brittney J.

Yelp
Their coffee is some of the best I've ever had! Parking is convenient and my order came out quickly.
google avatar

Yelp
LOVE LOVE LOVED THIS PLACE! The decor is here is top notch. There was plenty of seating despite it being a rainy morning. The Cambrian latte is so good. The sausage roll was heavenly and the pistachio sugar cookie may be the BEST sugar cookie I've ever had. The barista was very nice and asked if I was okay having the sausage roll on the same plate as the cookie or if I wanted two separate ones. I absolutely adored this place!
google avatar

Yelp
Also!!!! Their marmalade latte is amazing & delicious!!!! I just had to add this in since I just tried it for the first time recently!

Yelp
Looking for a local specialty coffee place in the Spring Branch neighborhood? Check out Cambrian Coffee. It's got a great Dinosaur theme and some exceptional coffee. They brew Geva coffee. Most people get the Cambrian latte (coffee with milk and cinnamon infused honey), but I opted for a v60 pour over. They had three choices - which I opted for their recommendation of the Ethiopian. It had a smooth and silky feel, light acidity, with some peach and honeysuckle tones. It seemed lighter to me, but still a very good quality cup. They often rotate single origin coffee and so will try the Colombian the next time. They have both a cheesy sausage roll and the original roll. Yelpers, you are right on point. The pastry was crisp yet had a nice chewy flakiness that complemented the juiciness of the sausage. It's like biting into an Italian meatball, with the right combo of seasoning. Really good sausage to bread ratio. Writing about it makes me want another one. You can tell they have a loyal clientele. The workers here are personable and actually more easygoing and talkative. They know their coffee and their people. On more than one occasion customers would come in and they would guess correctly their favorite drink before the customer would say it. This speaks well of their service and makes the ambience here really awesome!
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic customer service and great coffee I loved how kind everyone was and how they had great non-dairy options. Fantastic flavor and wasn't too hot at all! This is for sure my new go to coffee place
google avatar

Yelp
Was finally able to try them out during during my work week. They usually open after work starts and close before work ends. But made it happen during a work day. Upon walking in the environment is a nice cozy feel. Nice positive vibes that makes you want to take a book out and read or catch up with a friend. I order just a black coffee drip which I enjoyed. My co workers enjoyed there drinks so that means that's a win for different people. I was a bit surprise that a flavor shot and added creamer was a $1 each. I guess hecuit makes since because of inflation. I will definitely come back to try the food and different coffee options. Of course it's good to support small businesses

Hailey B.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite coffee shops in houston. They are so nice and their coffee is so good, sweet but can still taste the coffee! Their baked goods as delicious and authentic. They are quick to greet you and say thank you when you leave and the drinks come out fast! Very chill vibes in there. Could easily work or have coffee with a friend. Overall: 10/10 recommend
google avatar

Walter M.

Yelp
Friendly, neighborhood coffee shop, closed Sunday. I'm here for first time on a Saturday morning with the early rising moms and babies and dog walkers.
google avatar

Tim C.

Yelp
The iced mocha coffee latte was very very good. The hot cappuccino was just as good, we ordered them togo and I pulled the travel lid off to take a picture and it had some nice artwork....most places don't bother for togo cups.....nice touch. They don't do frozen blended thingys/frappes and we didn't miss it 'cause what we got was fantastic. We talked to the owner, nice guy, asked him where the name came from, turns out his wife is a geologist. They do their own baking....British style....we'd just eaten and a taste test is on our next visit's agenda.
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
Coffee and Sausage Rolls were DELICIOUS. their seasonal syrups are fantastic! The sweetest baristas! Go check them out!
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
Wedged between the Covid 19 resting place and the Swift gas station, you will find the Cambrian latte - mine was oat milk- and I found it be medium bodied and light sweet flavor, great balance with the superb sausage rolls. The sausage rolls are the best I've had- crispy on the outside and their classic flavor is mild and good amount of sausage. The taste is like a pate de chaud. They also still have their Thanksgiving with turkey and cranberry and their April Fools with pickles. Interesting flavors for scones - coconut abs the other cheddar. Outdoor seating available. Overall a nice experience and highly recommended!

Yelp
Cambrian Coffee, Houston, TX Truly in the middle of a coffee desert. These community coffee shops are my favorite to check out. With McDonald's, gas stations and family dollars a plenty, this poised, geological-themed coffee shop hits the spot. The Cambrian latte had a house-made, cinnamon-honey syrup which added to a quality latte. I admittedley am a scrub and asked for a little extra syrup, which the staff helped me out with, no issues. Coffee is sourced from a local roaster. No floor outlets but a fair amount of wall outlets and plenty of seating for individuals and for groups. Outdoor seating as well, no patio, on the side of the building. $3-5.50
google avatar

Rebecca B.

Yelp
Geology-themed cafe. We came at the recommendation of geologist friends. Their Cambrian Latte was great, if you enjoy rich chocolatey flavor you will like it. We did not try the pastries but heard they were good. Continuous turnaround of people on the weekend. Felt like there was not quite enough space even though there were a lot of people. Continuous stream of people gave it more of an "in-and-out" vibe than a place to stay put for a while, at least on the weekend.
google avatar

Maria E.

Yelp
THE BEST Coffee in all of Houston. Hands down. My go to is the Oat Caramel latte. Their pastries are amazing and the weekly rotating schedule of sausage rolls keep your taste buds buzzing. And the owners are the nicest people ever. Give them a try and get ready to crave their delicious coffee and pastries.
google avatar

Kalyn C.

Yelp
This was a great little coffee shop in Houston! The owners were super friendly and the homemade pastry loafs were to die for! The latte was perfectly balanced with flavor. Definitely would come again!
google avatar

Brett M.

Yelp
Yelp states that they open at 7am. I arrived right at 7 and waited for the doors to open. The folks inside saw me and didn't bother to open the door. At 7:05 I left and vowed to never come back.

Michael L.

Yelp
Absolutely love this little coffee shop. Great coffee and amazing sausage rolls! As a geologist I absolutely love the references and nod to the geological timescale and maps.

R M.

Yelp
I stay with a friend nearby this shop when I am in town and have enjoyed their coffee and home baked desserts along with their breakfast "burritos" But most of all I enjoy the atmosphere and the sincere care for their clientele who enter. BRIAN and the staff and everything offered is top notch!!!

Brenda G.

Yelp
Really good place to study! Outlets on side tables only. I got an iced matcha and it's wasn't good, but I'll try something else next time. The matcha was grassy and not creamy. Regardless, my experience was pleasant and productive.
google avatar

Siddhu T.

Yelp
Ambiance: Simple interiors and lot of natural light! Service: Very warm, welcoming and attentive. I definitely felt taken care of. Coffee: Bad! I couldn't taste the coffee or the creamer. It was as if I was having warm milk. We have waited a long time to visit this coffee shop as it has been closed every time we wanted to visit. Our first visit was definitely was a disappointment. We will not be going back. Interior

Ashlyn M.

Yelp
I always come here to get some work done. It has the best energy and the workers are always extremely friendly. Great quality coffee and amazing shortbread. They've had to rebuild recently, so make sure to stop on by! You most definitely won't regret it.

Carol K.

Yelp
Just went for a coffee. Just a sad contrast to one I visited a few days ago. Clerk was unfriendly and appeared offened at my coffee choices. Maybe she thought my choices were not up to her standards. The coffee wasn't even that great....couldn't compare to many places I've been. That will be the first and last time I ever go.
google avatar

Tiffany M.

Yelp
I was on the hunt for coffee before an appointment and Cambrian happened to be right down the street. I am so glad I found this little shop. It has the small coffee shop feel and I love that. Not sure why my coffee always seems to taste better when its not from a coffee giant haha. The service was fast and the chai latte was perfect I also had a kolache that I'm 100% sure had a different name I cant remember. Those are also equally delicious and occasionally they have different flavors. I believe I had a boudin kolache and it was amazing. I highly recommend visiting and having some coffee with friends. You will love it

Yelp
Made a bit of a trek to check this spot out as I have a goal to try all the coffee places in Houston (probably an impossible feat, but it conveys the spirit as to why I am willing to drive all over for bean water). First of all, I enjoy the theme" of this place - there are subtle nods to dinosaurs, geology, etc throughout. Service is very friendly and all items are made with care. Some standouts here are that their food items (scones, muffins, sausage rolls) are all freshly made in-house - definitely unique offerings worth checking out! We stayed and enjoyed the cafe for several hours so I had two drinks: the Cambrian Latte iced (honey cinnamon syrup) and the Orange Marmalade seasonal Latte iced (think chocolate orange flavor...very strong orange taste). Both were delicious, although I think I favored the Cambrian for a more familiar and drinkable experience vs the Marmalade that was odd and took me a while to get through. This place was hopping on a Saturday morning; the whole time we were there it had a line of at least a few people. A great neighborhood spot to come support!

Jenneye S.

Yelp
Thank you so much for all of the Great Coffee and hospitality. You made my trip to Houston extra special!! We are big fans, and I cannot wait to break into my wonderful Coffee varietals I purchased from you. See you next time for sure .
google avatar

Benji M.

Yelp
TLDR: Quick, high quality coffee and IN-HOUSE freshly made pastries Everything I've gotten here is delicious. - Coffee isn't too sweet - Sausage rolls are so tender! They're loosely packed (not a sausage link) and the pastry is so flaky - Scones!! I usually don't love scones and these have converted me - cheese, blueberry, cranberry - I've had them all and they are all perfectly crumbly without being heavy

Yelp
So nice to have a local coffee shop in Spring Branch. Really enjoy their coffee, plus the British sausage rolls. Staff has always been pleasant.
google avatar

Yelp
awful coffee , i got a honey lavender latte it was so sour and stale tasting and so expensive
google avatar

Meycy Z.

Yelp
Excellent coffee and great service. The space was modern, but could be more cozy. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Cali M.

Yelp
The coffee & service here is awesome. Inside is super welcoming and modern. The vanilla latte is simple yet delicious. Tried one of the pastries today, definitely recommend. Check them out if you have the chance.
google avatar

Tommy S.

Yelp
Pros: Service (super-nice gentleman behind the counter) Neighborhood coffee shop Baked goods, especially sausage rolls and scone Solid coffee. I had a latte and it was good. The milk didn't overwhelm the coffee. Cons: They could have made my coffee just a bit faster. It wasn't crowded during my last visit.

Yelp
2.5* Cambrian Coffee is located in a strip mall next to a gas station in a not so appealing neighborhood. The coffee is decent, and the people working here are nice. However, the internet connection is horrible. It is slow and disconnects every few seconds. It's not a good place if you need to do some work that requires fast and reliable internet connection. Also, the seating isn't particularly comfortable and there aren't enough power outlets available. Overall, the coffee is decent but the location, internet, seating and power availability are not ideal.
