Where to Eat and Drink in Oakland’s Fruitvale Neighborhood - Eater SF

"This food truck stationed just outside the Fruitvale BART station features a concise menu of Cambodian and Lao street food dishes, with a smattering of vegan Chinese options as well — hence the “Cam” “Chi” “Lao” name. Head here for bold-flavored classics like lemongrass-scented chicken cha-kreung, Lao-style papaya salad, and, perhaps most popular of all, the truck’s take on deep-fried chicken feet, served with a bright fish sauce and chile dip. It’s nostalgic comfort food, mostly — larb tacos are the only real gesture toward fusion. For customers who want to stay and eat, there’s a fairly spacious fenced-off outdoor seating area." - Luke Tsai, Janelle Bitker

The Camchilao Food Truck Is Selling Deep-Fried Chicken Feet in Fruitvale - Eater SF

"Camchilao is a Cambodian, Chinese, and Laotian food truck co-owned by Mary Ros, located in Oakland's Fruitvale neighborhood. It specializes in authentic street foods from Cambodia and Laos, including fried chicken feet, larb tacos, and papaya salads. The truck is particularly famous for its chicken feet, a popular item that sells out quickly, prepared with a labor-intensive process and served with a 'bomb sauce'. Camchilao aims to serve hard-to-find dishes that its owners and the local community love." - Luke Tsai

Really a hidden gem. David and family provide the best Cambodian food. You can tell they care about their food, as they offer to not give you the noodles cooked so you can have them at optimum level at home. Everything is good here but a bit spicy.

Amazing Lao fusion tacos and hot noodle soup! Also, the coconut Thai tea was unique and yummy! We walked here since we were in the neighborhood, but I could see how it would be difficult to drive here as there is no parking lot and street parking looked full. There's a nice outdoor seating area though. The tacos were my favorite out of the dishes we tried. I just got one beef taco to try it and I wish I got more. There was a chicken option too. There was a nice assortment of veggies with the perfectly seasoned beef and it came with a house made spicy garlic fish sauce on the side which pulled all the flavors together in a wonderful way. The noodle soup was also bomb. Very clear delicately flavored soup broth is made even more excellent when you pour in all the hot chili sauce they give you. Careful, that stuff is SPICY. There was beef meatballs, chicken, and shrimp in addition to the wide rice noodles and veggies. On a cold fall/winter night this soup is heaven. The pork belly was nicely crispy and salty and came with a bunch of fresh veggies which I appreciated. This dish also came with the house made spicy garlic fish sauce for dipping which was yummy. We also got the garlic noodles with shrimp which was a huge portion great for sharing as it filled the entire container in a mound. The shrimp was perfectly cooked. The noodles were a little sweet for my taste. I rectified it by adding garlic chili sauce to the leftovers the next day. The coconut Thai tea was excellent, especially because I like coconut. The coconut milk helped balance the intense tea flavor that Thai iced tea has. This is a unique menu item you should definitely try, especially if you like That tea and coconut.

Cambodian Food truck?!? Gone are the days when I would just head to a food truck in Oakland and the only thing being sold were Tacos! I stumbled upon Camchilao, a food truck that serves Cambodian food. Similar to Thai food with sweet, sour, salty and hot flavors and spices!

Great food and good people. Hidden in the valet parking lot of the cardroom. Garlic shrimp and noodles are incredible.

Great southeast Asian comfort food! Food is incredible and the owners are very friendly and kind. Highly recommend the Nam Kao, Lao Sausage, and Thai tea. Open late, which is a huge bonus in the east bay!

On an overcast day with a slight chill in the air the Kao Piak was just what I needed. Thick rice noodle in a chicken soup made creamy from the rice was a warm hug that briefly softened the world's edges as I sipped, leisurely, thoroughly enjoying the moment.
