Where to Eat at the Grand Canyon

"Southwestern fare isn’t just about prickly pear margaritas and Hatch chiles; it’s also about Navajo cuisine. Travelers entering the Grand Canyon from the east will find just that at Cameron Trading Post. The restaurant, motel, and gift shop is a great lunchtime stop that serves massive versions of the delicious (if controversial) Navajo tacos — fry bread loaded with ground beef, beans, and green chile — plus other specialties including Yah-Ahtay chile made with sirloin and pinto beans and fry bread topped with roast beef, gravy, and onions." - Krista Diamond, Janna Karel

We stopped here on our way to the historic Navajo bridge to stretch our legs, take a bathroom break, and get a bite to eat. Was really impressed with the gift store and the restaurant. Very helpful and kind staff that talked to us about Native American culture and the textiles especially the weaving process. Was happy to find vegetarian options with a dish called the vegetarian warrior which allowed us to try fry bread for the first time!

I stayed with a friend at the Cameron Trading Post in late May, my first time there. It's a very convenient place to stay if you're headed to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon from the east. Check-in was a little hard to find at first - it's in a corner of the huge Trading Post shop. The staff person there was very friendly, and helpful for letting us know the best spot to park. We were in what looked like one of the newer motel wings, and walked past the beautiful garden on the property. The room was large, and nicely decorated with a Southwest motif. There were two queen beds, table with two chairs, a desk, small closet, mini-fridge with freezer compartment, and a smallish TV. The bathroom had a separate vanity area with two sinks. There was also a sliding glass door out to a small deck, and we had a great view of the Cameron suspension bridge. The whole place was very clean and well-maintained, and the bed was comfortable. Though it's located not far off of the highway, I didn't notice any bothersome road noise. Overall I was very happy with my stay at the Cameron Trading Post, and would gladly stay there again.

I'm a tour bus driver and this is my first time to the trading Post. Pulling up it was very unassuming and as I told the general manager, I thought the rooms would be very rustic, southwestern and aged.. with light shining through the sides of the doors and a door knob that rattled... BUT when I was heading to my room down the walkway, looking at the courtyard and how well it was maintained and inviting, I had a feeling I was in for a surprise. When I opened my door I was absolutely blown away by the beauty of the inside.... from the decor, bed, bath, sinks to the BLUE towels... and all the way to the gift shop, which is ginormous and filled with BEAUTIFUL Native American artwork, jewelry and the customary shirts/hoodies to the fried trout dinner.. exceptional in every aspect including the employees! They all are very kind.. always had a smile always welcomed everybody that walked through the door. You WILL miss out if you don't come to stay or just visit... HIGLY recommend!! |Thank you Josh for an amazing 1 night stay!!

We visited the restaurant portion of the trading post after visiting the Grand Canyon and seeing the signs on the highways. We stopped and grabbed some dinner- the Navajo taco was delicious to say the least. The beans and meat was so yummy!!! The toppings were fresh and the frybread was SO GOOD! It was definitely the best Navajo taco I had in Arizona. We also ordered the roast dinner- this was not good at all. Don't order this. Meat tasted bad, the bread roll was rock hard. Definitely stick to the Navajo taco, and other specialized food to be safe. Since the taco was so good, still rating 5 stars despite our other meal not tasting good. The decor around the restaurant was gorgeous, and the shop was very versatile offering a lot of fun and pretty items. We did not stay at the hotel here, but from what we saw, everything was very clean.

Comfortable, very clean, tidy decoration and spacious room. Nice surroundings kept well. Coffee maker and fridge. No microwave. Restaurant on site but not used. Snack foods/drinks available from extensive gift shop. Staff friendly and helpful. Would stay again.

Cute place. Definitely worth the stop. The restaurant has a beautiful view. The portions are large so my husband and I asked to share the Navajo taco. They kindly cut in half and served on two plates. Very delicious and filling. I noticed other’s had large portions as well and could easily be shared. Prices are reasonable at $12 average. There were many customers but their staff hustled and we had good service.

We just stopped here on our way to the Grand Canyon to eat and shop a little. It was perfect for that purpose and much appreciated. The food tasted good and was quite large. Definitely recommend splitting the Navajo taco/Navajo burger items because those fry breads are big and greasy! Would like the restaurant to have a few healthier/lighter options....I ended up with a mediocre side salad and a piece of fry bread.

This place is fantastic, room was terrific and a beautiful garden area. Staff in the store are extremely knowledgeable and I can't say enough about the food. It's close to the entrance of the Grand Canyon which makes it a good base for operation if you don't want to deal with staying inside the park.
