The 17 Best Food Trucks In Austin

"If you’re bad with directions, just follow the savory smell of grilled meats wafting from the charcoal grills at Camino Alamo BBQ, a small food-trailer operation on The Drag near UT that specializes in Uyghur-style Xinjiang kabobs. There are three options for grilled skewers—lamb, beef, and chicken wings—that all get marinated in a mixture of cumin, salt, pepper, and Sichuan peppercorn before cooking over a tiny charcoal grill attached to the front of the trailer. It feels a little like a scrappy pop-up—and at one point it was—but it’s also a testament to how great the simple combination of fire and meat can really be. " - nicolai mccrary

The 16 Best Restaurants Near The University Of Texas Austin Campus

"You’ll probably catch the savory smell of grilled meats wafting from the charcoal grills before you even see them at Camino Alamo BBQ, a small food trailer operation on The Drag. The specialty here is Uyghur-style Xinjiang kabobs. There are three options for grilled skewers—lamb, beef, and chicken wings—that all get marinated in a mixture of cumin, salt, pepper, and Sichuan peppercorn, then dusted with chili powder as they sizzle and smoke over hot coals to a charred, but tender finish. Whatever route you decide to go, you’ll have to battle a line of hungry UT students to do it. " - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion

Camino Alamo BBQ Review - Campus - Austin - The Infatuation

"If you’re bad with directions, just follow the savory smell of grilled meats wafting from the charcoal grills at Camino Alamo BBQ, a small food trailer operation on that specializes in Uyghur-style Xinjiang kabobs. There are three options for grilled skewers—lamb, beef, and chicken wings—that all get marinated in a mixture of cumin, salt, pepper, and Sichuan peppercorn before getting cooked over a tiny charcoal grill attached to the front of the trailer. Food arrives on metal skewers over metal trays, but you can fancy up the whole experience with a side of lamb pilaf or some grilled pineapple. It’s a one-man operation so just be warned that food can take a little while if there’s a line.  " - Nicolai McCrary

Google
Xinjiang-style kebabs with an authentic and unforgettable taste.. If it’s your first time ordering, you can ask him for recommendations. The owner is very friendly and talkative, and his English is excellent. We tried the beef skewers, lamb skewers, chicken wings, and lamb chops. The chicken wings were the most impressive, with a unique marinated flavor that perfectly balanced sweetness and saltiness. I ate six of them myself! The classic beef and lamb skewers were incredibly fresh and tasted very authentic. On a hot summer night in Austin, Chinese BBQ paired with ice-cold beer will give you an unforgettable gourmet experience."

It was the best Chinese BBQ I ever had in past 5 years!! Highly recommend, traditional Chinese BBQ favor. Must have when you were in Austin.

We got the beef, lamb, and chicken. The flavors were nice and evenly seasoned. The owner, we forgot to get his name, but was super generous. He gave us grilled pineapple and rice to try. The grilled pineapple was nicely grilled. Highly recommended for a meat on stick night. But should bring a beer, if possible, would be a nicer feel! Thank you!

Google
A hidden gem. This unassuming trailer tucked into the back corner of a parking lot-turned food truck park is emblazoned with the spray painted words BEST LAMB COOKING. And they are right. I ordered the lamb skewers, it came with a little bit of rice. Food took a little under 10 minutes, though the tantalizing aroma of the charcoal grill make the passage of time feel slower. The food is simple as the methods employed to cook it. The menu is not extensive: lamb, beef or skewers and yellow rice. What is not simple is the flavor; it is complex and savory. You want to hang onto every bite for its spice and smokiness. The reasonable portions beckon you to return as your hunger is satisfied and your tastebuds teased. 5 stars.

Best Chinese Chuanr BBQ ever. This is so authentic, and no joke on the spice if you ask for it. Mr Duan is such an awesome guy that he really made our day. He caters too! Lamb and Beef Chuan best in town hands down.

I honestly cannot wait to be back and even bring my family. The beef skewers are THE BEST! My husband also got wings and liked them but we were both amazed by the beef skewers. Will be back and will 100 percent recommended! If you haven’t tried it you’re missing out! It is just $9 for 3 skewers! Great prices, great taste, great service! Thank you.

Yelp
This is the type of food where the aroma immediately stocks you in your tracks! I was actually on my way to pick up food from another restaurant that was nearby. I smelled the owner making the skewers on the grill outside of the food truck and I had to stop by. The skewers are freshly grilled right in front of you. I ordered the lamb skewers (3 for $10) and they were absolutely delicious. I usually do a good job of taking pictures before I eat, but this food smelled so good that I ate one of the skewers before I remembered to take the picture. The lamb skewers were smoky, aromatic, and tender. I'm looking forward to my next visit back!

Yelp
Excellent lamb skewers. Came with a free bottle of water and a side of rice. It was a bit difficult to find because there is no apparent sign. It's in a small cul de sac and it's a few other restaurants off Guadeloupe. Enjoy.

Yelp
A delightful find, Lamb on a stick is a favorite of ours. 3 skewers for $11 for me and Pablo had the Lamb rice bowl. The owners are lovely with smiley faces. The lamb tender, juicy, charred and spicy. Beef and Chicken also available. Situated in the UT campus area. There are a few small tables outside. Water available for purchase. simple and just what we wanted. A gentle rain was falling.

Yelp
Discovering the Uyghur Chicken and Lamb Skewers at Camino Alamo BBQ was an unexpected delight during my visit to the UT Austin campus. Nestled among the bustling activity of the university, this food truck is a gem. The mastery of spice and grill is nothing short of exceptional. The chicken and lamb skewers were a symphony of flavors, with the perfect balance of heat and savoriness. The meats were succulent and juicy, leaving me savoring each spicy, delightful bite.

Yelp
My husband had stopped believing. After too many disappointing skewers and kebabs, he told me to stop trying. But then, I read about this place and told him if there's one place that can reinstil his faith in his favorite food, this is it. And thank you because he loved it. His favorite and go-to is lamb but he loved the chicken too. It was cooked to perfection - not chewy or dried out. The gentleman responsible for this deliciousness is warm and friendly, with quite a sad and inspiring personal story. You can always tell when someone makes your food by putting their heart into it.

Yelp
Didn't know this place was Halal. The owner says he only serves Halal meat for all Beef, lamb and Chicken options. The bbq skewers taste out of this world. The owner himself really soft spoken and down to earth. The area surrounding the food truck is pretty clean with some wooden benches for people to sit down and enjoy their meal. I've become a regular here and for sure you will too after trying their food

Yelp
The skewers are absolutely amazing, so flavorful. If you live on wampus this is definitely a place you need to try before leaving UT. Moreover, it is well priced for the flavor of the skewer. The owner is super kind and makes you feel welcomed.

Yelp
Order Lamb, Beef and pineapple, it's really tasty, both BBQ meat was juicy and tender just perfect! Authentic seasoning like I had in China.

Yelp
Best skewers in town. The owner is also very friendly. It is outdoor open seating, so it might get chilly at night during winter times. However, you could bring it into the noodle restaurant next door. 10/10 would recommend

Yelp
I walked home 2 months ago, and I smelled something fantastic, and it was this place. I didn't visit it and I regret not going back then. They closed for a while, but they are now back open. I ordered 3 lamb and 3 beef skewers and they were all delicious. $9.99 for 1 portion of skewers, which is 3 skewers. You can also order them individually per skewer as well. Occasionally there will be a piece of fat on the lamb or beef and it's so tasty, such a great flavor, and you can tell it's high quality meat. I ordered them "hot" and the spice/seasoning doesn't overpower the flavor of the meat at all, but I could still feel the heat on my lips and mouth just a little bit, it was a very good experience. The man working there also gave me a free piece of sweet bread along with my skewers. The people there are extremely friendly and kind and they serve delicious food. I will come back without a doubt, this might even be my go-to spot for (very) quick, tasty, and cheap eats.
