This place is absolutely delightful. Wonderful staff and welcoming atmosphere. For my first time going to an authentic Mexican restaurant, I was in impressed at menu for their various selections though I wasn't familiar with them. Our server was very helpful with explaining the dishes. The food was amazing! I did not bra ch out too far from what I knew, but next time I will! If you haven't been here, you should really add it to your bucket list.

Unbelievably delicious. I cannot recommend this place enough. Tacos were filled to the brim with deliciously cooked meats. The Birria soup was God damned amazing. Best Mexican Food In Detroit.

Google
Great service, great food! Relaxed atmosphere and other diners were friendly. We ordered rice and beans and standard chicken tacos. Good served quickly and everything tasted good.

Google
Pretty good Mexican food here. The inside of the building really reminds me of Mexico. It's like being in Monterrey or Chihuahua. The food was decent. Meats in the tacos we a bit dry but well-seasoned. Service was on point. I'll be back for sure. No alcohol served here, btw.

Yelp
Been here in SW for a while, but I never tried it. I'm glad I did tonight. Hands down best Charro Beans I've had in a restaurant!! Chunks of chorizo and bacon, Jalapeno's, tomato, cilantro and onion floating around. Amazing. Horrible part is they charge an extra $1.25 for them. Sigh. I knew when I saw the upcharge they had to be good, and they were. The building doesn't look like much from the outside, but it is Fantastic once you enter. High ceilings, industrial brick, old time photos, spider plants in large windows, wooden tables made from tree planks and large heavy sturdy wooden chairs. Shiny and varnished offer all the decorations you need. Large art pieces decorate the walls, with pendant lighting Now for The food. Presented well. Smelled great. Hand made tastiness!! Charro beans are amazing, the rice was good. The BIRRIA Is too tasty, savory and tender in a rich broth decorated with onions The pastor was charred beautifully with little charred onion bits of goodness. The tortillas are either handmade or super high quality, both the flour and corn were amazing. I ordered the Camino Real Special and it was decorated with Pico De Gallo, Guac, Radish, Lime and a charred Jalapeño. Only complaints are, Chip basket was small and only came with 1 salsa.

Yelp
This Mexican restaurant is off the beaten path - meaning it's not on the main drag of Mexican Town. Hubby and I tend to like these restaurants better and that was the case with Camino Real. This restaurant is easy to find and has a private parking lot. We were surprised at how large the building is - lots of seating. We were seated right away and we were served complimentary chips and salsa quickly. We really liked the flavor of the mild sauce. It was a little too mild so we asked for some hot to add to it. Definitely a good cilantro salsa. For lunch, I ordered a meal with three corn tacos, rice and beans. I choose a chicken, pork, and chorizo taco. The chicken was a little dry and bland. I enjoyed the chorizo but the pork was my favorite!! So flavorful. I also enjoyed the rice and beans. This meal was also priced well too. I think it was $7.50. Hubby order a California burrito with steak. It had French fries in it - which I thought sounded really odd. He said it was really good - the steak had good flavor and the ingredients inside were very complimentary. We would go here again! It's been added to our list of go to Mexican places in Detroit!

Yelp
TACO IN A HOUSE I SAY Great.. Very beautiful inside and out with super brickwork, half old house with cut out into large open kitchen and dining area. Taco's are 50 percent larger than the Taco trucks and Los Alto's for a $ 1.25 each I so love them Al Pastor and the Pollo loaded with onions and cilantro. Lots of salsa and a smooth flavored hot sauce along with sliced radishes and limes. I do miss the guac sauce from Los Altos. They have a very limited menu with Quesadillas, Taco, and Torta's a very good sandwich made on homemade bread for only $ 4. This summer they'll open an outside eating area built on beautiful stone pavers. May be hard to find I-75 and Springwells go one block up and turn right on the corner of Central and Lafayette. Really easy on and off the freeway. Think of this as the Pollo Chapin of Taco's with house and all. Oh yea the seats and tables are all thick loggers style heavy made which look really cool. No alcohol yet, waiting on license.

Yelp
I hate to complain, but this was the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant in my life! I came with a group of 5. We were sat immediately, however, we waited 45 minutes to an hour for our food to come out cold. Then, my order was completely wrong. Toppings were missing, the food was still cold. I asked for the manager, which was no help. She couldn't do anything. They don't care about their customers they just care about getting your money. Needless to say, I won't ever be back here again. I like a business that actually care about their customers and treat them like they're important. I will take my money where it's appreciated. The last time I came it was ok, but I've heard from other people that it's always a hit or miss; they're never consistent. Ella no podía hacer nada.

Yelp
Simply the best Mexican restaurant in area. They have delicious salsa and guacamole. Their marinated pork quesadilla it a top notch! I wouldn't trade for any other places. The marinated pork is just heavenly good. Horchata is home made! Tacos are amazing. So far what I have tried was a-ma-zing! I'd recommend to anyone! Their service is fast and every time very sweet. Sundays morning and noon can be little busy.

Jim O.

Yelp
Quite authentic! A neighborhood gem. Shared lunch quesadilla- cheese, along with beef , cheese enchiladas. Both came with rice and beans. Ample portions and so fresh tasting. Was ready for a margarita- but this location doesn't serve them, only Wyandotte has em. Great patio- decent service !more than ok chip and salsa ! I'd go back !

Rodger W.

Yelp
Great find big Al P. Camino Real is a taqueria in a beautiful converted house seconds away from the I-75 Springwellls exit. I had a 3 Taco dinner ($5.75) with 1 Choirizo, 1 Al Pastor, and 1 Steak. My daugter has the Chicken Quesadillas ($6.50). The tacos and quesadillas were huge, and well spiced. The meat was a tiny bit overcooked and chewy, but still delicious. The rice and charro beans were perfect. The service was excellent, and the waitstaff were very attentive and ahem, easy on the eyes. They lose a star for no chips and salsa, but given the size of the meal, I did not miss them too much. Folks, this is one newcomer to watch.

Lucy R.

Yelp
My favorite Mexican Restaurant by far! All the food is delicious and excellent service. The green enchiladas are a must try!

Nat Z.

Yelp
Food was ok, but I will be damned if i ever again order ceviche tostadas that are served with a drizzle of ketchup on top and a liberal dollop of mayonnaise on the bottom. This ain't McDonald's. Carnitas taco wasn't anything to write home about. I will be back and will update accordingly. Alambres was good, steak and pork covered in cheese, but it would seem hard to mess that up. Service was meh.

Tim G.

Yelp
I had high hopes, and Camino Real didn't disappoint. The food was very good and the service was great. The outdoor patio, with a to-go taco grill, looks promising for a few summer lunches. Along with the standard chips and salsa, I was also given a cup of soup. Chicken with thin noodles and vegetables, really hit the spot on a cold snowy day. That was a good thing since the salsa certainly didn't hit the spot. It literally had no flavor. I don't understand how that even happens. The exact opposite of the salsa, my taco dinner was great and packed with flavor. I had the chicken (Yelper recommended) and the al pastor. Both in soft corn shells we hot, fresh and delicious with a little heat. Rice, beans, radish, and a roasted pepper and I had a great lunch. If they fixed the salsa and turned up the heat in the dining room a little, it might have been a 5 star lunch. I'll definitely be back.

Sdunnaway M.

Yelp
Food was so good I really enjoyed it. Season well and, presentation wasn't sloppy. I never been to a mexican restaurant before and, this probably the only place I will go too.

Morgan L.

Yelp
I am not one to usually write Yelp reviews, but I could not resist for this place. I just finished dinner at Taquiera Camino Real and my entire experience was heavenly! Service- I came with a group of 18. The service was excellent- always asking if we needed anything, refilling our drinks, and making sure we were having the best experience we could have. The Food- AMAZING. I am from Southern California, and this place gets as close to authentic as it can! I got the fajitas mixtas (chicken, steak, and shrimp), and it came with SO much food! So much flavor and the tortillas were delicious! (I got half corn half flour, but recommend the flour). Also, the guacamole is really really good. $11.99 All in all, this mom and pop Mexican food place is definitely worth the trip.

Larry O.

Yelp
Was a bit skeptical of coming here because of the area , but the food and service made up for it. Legit the best Mexican cuisine I've ever had in my life .

Leslie G.

Yelp
This place is always the best for authentic Mexican food. We never want for anything and the service is top notch. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for great food and atmosphere.

Sal B.

Yelp
Had a work meeting in this area today and we popped into Camino for lunch. Wonderful, pleasant staff. A+ for quick service. Solid A for the lunch. The 3 of us ordered tacos, fajitas and a burrito. All were very good. Enjoyed the meals. The only reason I didn't go with an A+ is that the guacamole could use a tiny bit pf improvement. It was very good, but we thought it needed a little boost. But it was tasty. The patio area looked fun. It wasn't opened today, but in warmer weather it must be hoppin. Neat space. Will keep Camino on my Detroit list. Great visit and experience. Highly recommended.

Dany M.

Yelp
We found this place just after exiting the Hwy. on the way to another restaurant. Looked interesting and very authentic and it lived up to our expectations. Great fresh authentic Mexican cuisine, Alambres Camino Real was excellent, the guacamole was fresh and the salsa & chip were the best I've ever tasted. I would go out of my way to come back next time we are in the Detroit area. Very reasonably priced for what you get.

Moe C.

Yelp
Living in Los Angeles for 20 years this place is authentic! Can't wait to come back again soon. Super nice staff, sweet atmosphere, and delicious authentic Mexican food.

Boy J.

Yelp
Steaming Enchiladas with the green sauce is one way to go! Along with a smiley staff you can't go wrong with this place! Might be back today!

Sy B.

Yelp
Great food and great staff, trhree happy diners, all say it was a great place to eat, and we're going back. Thanks Camino Real.

Bill H.

Yelp
Needed a quick lunch and Camino was recommended. Service was fast and efficient, decor was nice and my tacos were tasty. Beware - large portions on your plates.

Brenda M.

Yelp
Are you a fan of authentic Mexican food? If so, I got nothin' for ya in this review. This review is for the companions of those people that love authentic Mexican food. Look for my husband's (Dave P.) review if you want to know about chorizo tacos, etc. So, for the "Taco Bell is too spicy for me" crowd, of which I am a member, let me tell you about my meal. Yum. A torta sandwich that has chicken milanese on it. Crispy fried chicken breast, my friends. And it was good. Of course I pulled off all of the onions, tomatoes, peppers, etc. But what was left was perfect, crispy, cheesy, chickeny heaven on a yummy roll. They don't have chips and salsa, which disappointed me. Maybe in the future it will be added to the menu. Speaking of menu, it's pretty basic: tacos, quesadillas, and tortas. Pick your meat and get to eatin'! Also, no fountain drinks. We think we got charged almost $4 for our bottled waters, but language was kind of a barrier and we just paid it. So, if you love good Mexican food, and you have a friend, SO, or family member that doesn't know it from anything else....take them here. It's a great Mexican place that serves stuff even a whimp like me would eat. Thanks to Yelper Lorna for letting us know about Camino Real!

Lindsay M.

Yelp
I'm trying to visit every Mexican restaurant in Detroit, instead of always going to the same one. I think my favorite thing here was the rice. It was so tasty. I always order guacamole and I couldn't even eat this side because it was too spicy. Overall, the food was delicious and the staff were very attentive and friendly. It's also a unique place because it use to be a house! I would go back.

Dil F.

Yelp
Great chicken tacos, giant space will accommodate your giant party, A+ service Tucked just a little off Springwells, the space is gorgeous and multifunctional. You can even get tacos on the fly near the entrance if you change your mind about table service between your parked car and the front door. Menu is big and mixed. Some of my seafood favorites, like the shrimp/octopus cocktail and whole fried fish, are here too. I found everything delightful, esp. the servers who make easy science of a giant floor plan under pressure. No beer/bar, but great juices. Definitely worth a visit.

Cindy S.

Yelp
Fyi...my review is for the restraunt on Fort st, I have not been to the Central location but....Im sure its wonderful!

Primavera F.

Yelp
Customer service is everything. Customers don't like to be seated and then ignored or forgotten. Won't return.

Alyssa B.

Yelp
I wanted to try a New Mexican restaurant and wasn't very impressed. The bean burrito I got was literally just beans on grilled bread that had no flavor. I wanted to maybe switch it out for something else but was never checked back on for the rest of my meal that I had to eat with no water refills or chip refills. She never came back to the point that I had to go up to the front to ask for my bill. The worst part - the salsa sucked! It tasted like straight hot sauce, once again, no flavor. Never again!

Sarah M.

Yelp
Poor service. Waitress brought my food after my family was done eating. We reminded her several times. They said it's a computer problem. By the time I finally did get the food, the meat was expired!!! It was so sour. I do not recommend. It's in a bad area. Right around the block two little girls were kidnapped. Mi Pueblo is much better!!

Stephanie W.

Yelp
Good food. Fast service. I had the taco dinner and my daughter had the fajitas. Portion sizes and prices were reasonable.

Jaileene T.

Yelp
I go here all the time for lunch with co-workers. The servers are super sweet and really get to know you. The food is delicious. If you want to try authentic Mexican food , you should definitely try Camino Real. Their natural orange juice is a most try. Along with their tacos made outside from the grill. In the summertime they have a patio were you can enjoy your meal in the nice summer weather. They have been getting busy so they made a new parking lot on the side of the building.

James K.

Yelp
This is a very good, solid restaurant. I am torn between 4 and 5 stars (I wish I could give it 4.5). I am giving it 4 because i only give 5 to places that are really and truly extraordinary. This and is my "go to" Mexican restaurant Not fancy, but nice. very clean, well organized, very good service and the food is very good. I strongly recommend it. Wish they had a liquor license. With places like this in Detroit, I don't understand how the big places like Xochimilco, Mi Puebla and Mexican Village stay in business. The difference is fresh...everything is cooked to order and it tastes like it. Bright, clean crisp flavors and quality. You can't go wrong here.

William R.

Yelp
Generous portions, fairly priced, friendly wait staff. Delicious food. airy atmosphere and a nice covered patio.

Susan M.

Yelp
Worst service I have ever experienced. They were rude to me and called me a "negra". Told me that they wouldn't serve me because of my dark skin color. The smell there is disgusting. When a waitress finally agreed to serve me it to them almost 2 hours to get my food to me.

Dona B.

Yelp
Very good! My family of five had a wonderful meal. 4 stars for no margaritas/alcohol. Did not disappoint for our first time! The five of us each had different dinners, zero complaints. Tacos, alambre/fajitas, flan. We will be back :)

Jerel B.

Yelp
The fact that there was no alcohol was quickly overshadowed by the fact the service was best i had in this area and the food was great while not being expensive. Mouth waters thinking about the next time I will go.

John P.

Yelp
I really want to like this place more. Really, this is a three stars rounded up from two and a half. Expansive menu, good serving sizes, fair prices, clean place. The tacos just left something to be desired. I had the taco dinner plate with tongue, cabeza, and marinated pork for my choices. The marinated pork was really tasty. The tongue wasn't bad, though chewier than I care for. The cabeza was pretty lousy tasting- almost fishy, which is rarely a good sign. Served with nice grilled onion, fresh radish, rice and beans, and on very fresh tortillas. My wife liked her chicken tacos, though I didn't try it myself. The place was fairly full for a Saturday afternoon. Service was friendly and relatively prompt. It does not have beer, in case you were hoping for a cerveza. Like I said, I want to be able to give this place higher marks. I'll go back and give it another whirl, but I'll skip the head and tongue, and pass on trying the tripe. I'll stick to Lupita's and El Rey for the more "adventurous" tacos. Edit: I forgot to mention, they have gated parking, which really doesn't hurt in this neck of the woods.

Larry B.

Yelp
Good food but most of them can barely speak English and always mess up my order. They can barely understand English. Not going back again

Mary L.

Yelp
I often forget it's there, but the upper portion of the restaurant is roomy, So I suggested Camino Real for my mother[s 90th birthday. So glad we went. The service couldn't have been better. The waitstaff so very accomodating. We had a group of 28. All were very content and did I mention they all vowed to return. Good parkiing, too. Oh, I forgot to say I was well below my alotted budget.

Alex G.

Yelp
Didn't start coming here until a couple months ago, I was very satisfied when I first tried this place out. The ambience is pretty calm and peaceful , food tasted fresh and very delicious. The waitresses were nice , not really packed with people at the times I've been there. A lot to choose from the menu, going to be back here for sure to try more options.

Ron M.

Yelp
Off the beaten path, but worth the trip. Better than most Mexican restaurants on Vernor and Bagley. Been there 2 times now. Delicious chicken enchiladas, fish tacos, shrimp quesadillas, botanas, beans and rice. Nice decor, but a little chilly in the winter time. Excellent service.

Steve T.

Yelp
It was our first time there on March 14 and were pleasantly surprised. Other Yelp reviews were right on. Great selection of the usual taqueria fare with many different kinds of meats if that is your thing (cabeza, tongue, etc) We had chorizo tacos and they were great. Good service, clean and plenty of safe parking so we'll be back.

J M.

Yelp
Everything I had (tacos dorados w/ potato, gordita w/ al pastor, and chorizo taco) was delicious, but the chorizo taco was especially outstanding. So good that I ordered two more to take to lunch the next day. With all of that food, plus horchata, my bill was $10.80. I will definitely be back. My new favorite restaurant in Mexicantown. The only downside is that there is no alcohol.

Roberto B.

Yelp
If i were a writer i would title this restaurant,"Less Than Zero". Because the food was just that ! Me a my sweetie went their to get some carryout. We ordered ten taco's for 9.99 ,4-chicken,3-beef and 3-pork. They were the worst taco's i have ever tasted, they either had no flavor or over flavored and had a lot of grissel. You also didn't get any cheese and lettuce, tomato on the side to go into the taco's. The salsa taste like grease and tomatoes put together. Sorry to say and sad to report, that this place will not be a Pulitzer prize winner.

Wanda K.

Yelp
my husband and i just had lunch at the wyandotte facility and it was excellent.. very clean, very friendly, very fast, and the food was excellent. better than any other mexican restaurant we have visited in the downriver area. will be back very often. wanda and roger.
