Family-owned since 1969, Cammie’s makes its ice cream locally and serves it in a sunshine-yellow Midtown shop that generations of Mobilians swear by. Mobile Bay Magazine regularly highlights its old-school charm and rotating flavors. Try Creole praline or seasonal specialties after a day exploring nearby neighborhoods; it’s a sweet snapshot of Mobile tradition.

The ice cream was delicious!! Parking was very limited, there was no restroom (from what I saw), & the inside was very difficult to move around in as the aisle was narrow and to get to the back of the line you had to squeeze to the back of the building. The staff were friendly and moving as quickly as they could for it being so busy.

Google
We have always loved coming to Old Dutch and it’s our number one pick for ice cream. So, of course my child wanted to have her birthday party there. And it did not disappoint! Cammie is so sweet and so were all the employees.

Google
Had to try out this local landmark after dinner while visiting the area, and it was great! Cute little shop with a ton of invebtive flavors. Ordering can be a bit of a ratrace, but even with it fairly busy we didn't wait long before we had our order. Good prices, too! Ordered a double dip of king cake and cinnamon king cake in a dish and another double dip of king cake and strawberry oreo. Both were very good, with real pieces of king cake in those varieties!

Google
Great ice cream. I think alittle bit of cleaning would give it a little more stars

Google
Never walked into an Ice Cream shoppe before where I got the same effect of walking into a real coffee house shop. You. An smell the goodness of the ice cream. Plus the had the flavor I was craving.

Google
This place was awesome! We had our daughters 1st birthday party here, the staff was so kind and helpful, the Ice cream was delicious! We had our party from 11 to 12 and the place didn't open till 12 so we had it all to ourselves! The kids got to make their own sundaes, everyone had a great time. They even have old sodas, we enjoyed a cold root beer. There is also a classic horse to ride with the quarters!

Google
This place has been a favorite of mine since I was a little girl in the 80s. Always tasty ice cream without the sticker shock! Clean and original. I LOVE Old Dutch!

Google
The absolute best ice cream… well anywhere. Blue Bell ain’t got nothing on this. Friendly staff! Always a favorite of ours!

Yelp
Our favorite sweet spot!! Great for ice-cream only. The service could be used some help. Not very friendly in our experience best to just get it to go.

Yelp
Love going to the local ice cream parlor when I'm visiting a new city- Cammie"s did not disappoint. they have a laundry list of flavors and reasonable prices. Definitely recommend this old school spot.
google avatar

Kevin G.

Yelp
The ice cream is outstanding but, the service... for having 8 people behind the counter, they were very slow because they talked to eachother non stop, taking a mini break after each person served. Even the cashier in between ringing someone up would turn around and have a personal conversation. The place is packed for sure, they have a great product.

Yelp
Fun place to go and get ice cream. Was a good price about ~2.5 for the small size. They have lots of unique flavors that (may be seasonally). Every flavor I sampled was really good and I ended up getting the honey lavender. Plenty of seating for family's and friends. If I'm in the area again I will be back!
google avatar

Heidi N.

Yelp
Best ice cream I have had, staff is friendly, extremely busy but worth the wait. They get you in and out quickly. Love the lavender ice cream. Atmosphere is busy but friendly.

Yelp
Such a cute little old school ice shoppe. Another good ole Mobile staple. I shared a photo of their story below ! I loved the cute wallpaper and tables inside. I got the king cake ice cream, they were all out of the cream cheese king cake ice cream- so I got the original. It was good- slightly dry but still tasty. Overall great!

Yelp
Ice cream was delicious! Customer service left a little to be desired, we tried a couple different flavors, all of which were delicious, but the kid helping us acted like it was a really big inconvenience. I would understand if we had asked for a bunch, but the three of us asked for one taste each. Nothing worse than getting an ice cream flavor you regret! The place is super cute and right in the heart of downtown!

Yelp
Delicious ice cream. We drove a little out of the way on a road trip. It was worth the detour.
google avatar

Yelp
Best ice cream around! All homemade and a ton of flavors all of which are delicious and creamy

Heather F.

Yelp
Great experience! Delicious ice cream! Friendly staff! Old time ice cream parlor atmosphere! Great variety

Yelp
Great service quality ingredients the Traditional Banana Split is a sinful indulgence it's so good!
google avatar

Anthony M.

Yelp
So happy we popped in here during our vacation. I wish I got a picture of it but our banana split was amazing. You will not be disappointed! They could find a more efficient way to do the line considering you have to snake around a million people to then get back in line and go the other direction.

Jay R.

Yelp
Great ice cream. Creative flavors. Fun atmosphere. Go see for yourself. You'll love it too.
google avatar

Lucy H.

Yelp
Been going here since childhood--still the same great flavor, service and decor. The variety of flavors is large.

Lou F.

Yelp
This place came highly recommended to our youth group traveling through the area, and it was no disappointment. I've traveled across most of the US, and this was among the best ice cream that I've had. The staff members were super friendly. The location clean. The decor nostalgic. Happy anniversary year to them!

Yelp
Hell Yeah! Frigging great ice cream! Bring the family and enjoy a cold treat. This original location has charm that the new location on Halls Mill Rd doesn't. BUT... It's often so packed that's its hard to get parking.

Yelp
This quaint little shop is probably one of the things about mobile, AL. Their staff was friendly and attentive. Their ice cream is rich and tastes so good. They have so many selections, I ended up choosing the banana pudding and it was better than blue bell. That's saying a lot from this Texas girl. My son got Blueberry and it was so rich in flavor you could taste the blueberries. Hands down recommend if you're ever in town. I would come through Mobile, AL again just for this ice cream.

Yelp
According to their website, "owner Cammie Wayne purchased Widemire's Old Dutch Ice Cream Shoppe in 1998 and working at Old Dutch was actually her first job since the age of sixteen. In 2011 Cammie and her husband Larry began making all of the ice cream on site at our creamery on Halls Mill Rd. Old Dutch is the only Ice Cream manufacturer/wholesaler in Mobile, AL." With 47 flavors to choose from, there is something here for everyone. Our first visit was Saturday 10 OCT 2020 at the recommendation of my non-Yelping cousin Aimee Q., who joined us for an earlier dinner and recommended Cammie's for dessert. What a great choice. The building's exterior screams old school ice cream parlor and there is a fairly large parking lot. However, I imagine this place can get quite crowded. With dishes such as Holland Sodas, Amsterdam Royales, Pennsylvania Dutch Milk Shakes & Malts, Old Dutch Banana Splits and Amish Dishes, Cammie's brings back memories of simpler more wholesome times. Even though our visit was in a socially distanced, mask-wearing COVIS-19 pandemic, we still enjoyed ourselves as we ate our ice cream outside in the parking lot, as all indoor tables had been removed. My carrot cake ice cream was a real treat, but I am a chocolate malt man by nature and next time, and there WILL be a next time, I plan to go all out and get "A Meal for One"; which is a malted milk shake with five (5) scoops of ice cream. You heard me right! The staff inside was very friendly and they kept the line moving very quickly. Kudos to the staff for allowing one couple to get served after the doors were closed and locked. Great customer service and a great experience.
google avatar

Quentin W.

Yelp
Great Ice Cream! Great flavor and service... however the past two times my cone has been broken while adding the scoops which makes it difficult and makes me lose ice cream. This is not enough to make us quit coming but is dissapointing. Great place for an ice cream date.
google avatar

Charles J.

Yelp
Bicycle gang took over Old Dutch today. Covid style. Are outside on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon with family and neighborhood friends. We had a little exercise mixed in with a little a fun and sugar. Fabulous outing and would suggest to all.
google avatar

Noelle B.

Yelp
Great prices! Loved the Banana Pudding ice cream. My son got a brownie flavored ice cream and loved it! Parking is cramped.
google avatar

Veronica H.

Yelp
This is a busy place. The ice cream was great, & The staff was super friendly. The parking lot is small so be prepared to wait for a parking spot. It was worth the wait.

Yelp
So I came here to treat myself after I finished a birth (I'm a Doula) and I wanted some good ice cream but not the franchise places so I found this place. From the looks of it, I could tell they would have good ice cream. It was already crowded so that told me as well but it could have been due to it being Mardi Gras. Well I loved all the little things in the store that told you they were getting ready for the week. The staff was very friendly and they had so many flavors so I picked the pecan Pralines and cream on a waffle cone. I must say I really enjoyed the ice cream because it was so rich. I'm picky on my ice cream so this one didn't disappoint lol. I will definitely stop by here every time I come to visit and if you are here you should ask well.

Christine W.

Yelp
Huge selection of unique and yummy flavors along with the classics too! Super friendly staff, delighted to offer samples and make recommendations! The prices are the lowest I've seen in a while as every other place seems to keep going up as the scoop sizes get smaller. Don't miss out on this gem!!
google avatar

Tina S.

Yelp
Just delicious!! Fast service, polite, inviting, knowledgeable. They are very generous with their scoops. Very clean! Bathroom very clean also, you had to go around building with key. Convenient parking. Love this place!
google avatar

Swizzle D.

Yelp
The banana split is amazing. Can't go wrong with this staple 50 years and counting. Demya made the best one thank you for your great service and the best banana split. My wife said it is the best she ever had. Will definitely be making a stop here every time I am in town. The best ice cream in Mobile, Alabama!
google avatar

Allison J.

Yelp
Great selection of ice cream flavors. This place has been here for A LONG TIME! I remember going here after school as a child. Place hasn't changed... that's a good thing.
google avatar

Dave L.

Yelp
My favorite Ice Cream spot! LWe stop by almost every trip through Mobile...Creole Pralines Brownie Sunday!!! So good! The Honey Lavender is our other favorite.
google avatar

Steve C.

Yelp
Hard to go wrong with most ice cream places and Cammie's is no exception. I've had their ice cream in various local restaurants, but this was my visit to their actual ice cream shoppe. The place inside is quite small with a few places to sit and hasn't seen a decor update since the early 80's. They do have some outside tables if the weather is nice enough. Cammie's has about two dozen ice cream flavors to choose from. I went with their Creole Praline (out of this world!) and Rocky Road (very good). Cammie's ice cream is rich and creamy with a good amount of milk fat. Definitely worth a visit!
google avatar

Yelp
Love Old Dutch ice cream after a nice dinner dinner out on a muggy summer evening.... not so much when we drive ALL THE WAY ACROSS TOWN and get there at 9:10, lights on and people in the store but guy at door won't let us in claiming it's closed when their website clearly says they close at 10:00 on Saturday evening. So frustrating, not to mention a waste of gas when no one can afford to be wasting gas right now. So fair warning: just because their website says they should be open doesn't mean they'll be open.
google avatar

Ellen C.

Yelp
Best place to stop for a great ice cream cone or a sundae. Wonderful high quality ice cream locally produced and never a question of those bad things some name brand ice creams sometimes get recalled for having. Anyway, the staff is amazing as is the ice cream and you should only waste calories on really great ice cream.
google avatar

James L.

Yelp
What a fun place!!! Old school ice creamery. Fantastic array of flavors. Great service and terrific location. Parking was a bit of an issue, but not enough to keep us away. They are open late and we can't wait to go back again and try more flavors! Tonight we were all about the Salted Caramel!

Allen C.

Yelp
They had lots of flavors to choose from and the staff was polite. The ice cream itself was just ok. Nothing special. Most of the ice cream looked like it had been in the cooler for a while. They all had a layer of frost on the top like they don't cover any of it. None of it looked very appealing. I asked and was told that they make it all themselves even though the ice cream is made at another location in town. The building itself was kinda cool. I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to go back.

Yelp
Cammie's is the BOMB! As a self-proclaimed ice cream connoisseur extraordinaire -- yes, it's a thing-- I can vouch for the greatness that is Cammie's! There's a gajillion flavors to choose from, that ALL taste great! The staff is super attentive and quick to offer service and tastes to the masses that pile in. The prices are great, but most importantly, I love supporting a small local shop that's got it right! Favorite flavors: strawberry cheesecake, blueberry cheesecake

Abby N.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream and good service. I personally had a scoop of the caramel apple ice cream and the biscoff cookie ice cream and they were both soooo good! It was quite busy for a Sunday evening.
google avatar

Yelp
Oh my goodness, huge scoops, delicious ice cream and so affordable! Would do it again everyday if my waistline could take it
google avatar

Miriam L.

Yelp
Love, love, love the sorbet!!! Good service and best ice cream in town. The staff is always nice and friendly.

Lisa W.

Yelp
Sweet ice cream, Alabama! Driving through Mobile, we made one stop: Old Dutch Ice Cream. Perfect way to cool off from the heat, be sure you check the flavors in both coolers: they have more flavors than those listed on the board! Old-school ice cream at its best. Fabulous and friendly staff offered multiple samples. I decided on 2 scoops in a bowl: Biscoffi and Cappuccino Chocolate. My husband had a waffle cone with 2 flavors: Chocolate Cookies & Cream and Cookie Dough. It was all creamy, fresh, and delicious. Recommended to us by a friend who grew up in Mobile - passing that recommendation on to you! PS. Really enjoyed driving through the historic neighborhood otw to Water Street. Be sure to see the fort with the city as it's backdrop.

Steve B.

Yelp
When my wife and I came into town to visit family, we thought we would take them somewhere special. We all enjoyed Cammie's delicious ice cream. They had a great selection and very friendly staff. We also discovered that our family goes here regularly!
google avatar

Anne M.

Yelp
Old Dutch ice cream represents family. We stop by here at least once a month for the creamy deliciousness and have been for more than 10 years. Old Dutch hasbeen around a long time and for good reason, they have the best ice cream on the coast. The customer service is fantastic; and everyone is ready to help with smile. Most people get to go and hang out in the parking lot for a bit. There are limited tables inside. Cammie's Old Dutch is tradition, Mobile tradition. Treat yourself to ice cream and a little bit of history.
google avatar

Carly S.

Yelp
Homemade ice cream, we stumbled across this place by accident and it was absolutely delicious ice cream. I had the red velvet and it was so good. My husband had strawberry cheesecake and my two daughters also had ice cream highly recommend.
google avatar

LaToya L.

Yelp
I just Loveeee me some Old Dutch ice cream! Their lemon custard is everything my little ice cream heart desires. I was able to enjoy a double scoop of lemon custard on a waffle cone on this hot Memorial Day. The customers were steady but not overcrowded. The staff was nice and friendly. I didn't give them five stars because the shop could use a renovation. They can update but still have that old ice cream shoppe feel.
google avatar

Michelle F.

Yelp
Had to try Cammie's while I was in town. And I must say, it did not disappoint. Had their rum raisin ice cream and it was good. It cost about $2.75 for one scoop. They have plenty of flavors. The service was good and I'd definitely be back for more ice cream the next time I'm in town!
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Oh Cammie's, you will definitely be one place I miss when we transfer out of here next summer. There is no other ice cream shop like Cammie's in the Mobile area. This local shop serves some of the best and most fresh homemade ice cream with a plethora of flavor options. A personal favorite of mine is the Coconut Moon pie flavor served during Mardi Gras.....it is absolutely amazing. She does not skimp at all on the mix ins for each flavor. The coconut moon pie for instance has been, yummy chunks of actual coconut moon pie, and the same holds true for any other flavor I've had. The flavors are very prominent, and you definitely know what flavor you're having. All of the staff that I've come across are very friendly. They let you sample any flavor you'd like, that way you can get exactly what you want. Service is quick and prices are very reasonable. There is plenty of seating inside and a couple benches for seating outside as well. This is a must stop when we have family in town, they all leave having fallen in love as well
google avatar

Lacey C.

Yelp
Update: tried the banana moon pie and the king cake. Both good but not as good as the lemon Custard, guys... Two words... Lemon. Custard. I can't even believe that this is my favorite thing here. If you had told me twenty years ago that my favorite ice cream would be lemon custard I would have never believed you. I have always hated lemony desserts, maybe because of the tartness? I don't know exactly...but, OMGoodness...this lemon custard is to die for. If your favorite ice cream is Rocky road or if you hate tart lemony desserts, you may just want to try this amazingness...cause you just never know...you might end up being hooked to
google avatar

Georgio B.

Yelp
Excellent ice cream treats and fast service! Recommend. I would have given them 5 stars, but the bathrooms need some work.
google avatar

Rhett B.

Yelp
I had seen Cammie's on a list of best ice cream places to try. It turns out that the hype was real. The place is old and has a way-back feel. There are several choices of ice cream. I sampled 3 - hot chocolate, chocolate cookies and cream, and maple bacon. I can tell you that I thought the maple bacon was weird and tasted like syrup. But both chocolates were spectacular! I went with a hot chocolate milkshake. The milkshake was brought to me in a glass cup like old times and in a metal container with what was left. The hot chocolate had chocolate chips in it, had a milk chocolate taste, but also had the hot chocolate taste to it. The shake was not too think but not runny. Service was outstanding and they even said I could pay when I'm done. Price was about $4 something. There are plenty of other options than milkshakes. Cammies was an excellent ice cream joint.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
I am not entirely clear on what makes ice cream Dutch specifically, but this seems to be the local dessert purveyor of note, and I was happy to have tried it. They have an extensive set of flavor offerings, and in addition to my favored mint chip, I took a recommendation on peanut butter swirl. The mint chip was fine but didn't overly impress me; the peanut butter swirl had a lot going on and was the better of the two flavors. I got plenty of ice cream for the money. I'm not clear that they had much of anything non-dairy. They do seem to have a significant menu of shakes and sundaes and other ways to have ice cream that I didn't try. In any case, if you want ice cream in this area, this seems like the go-to spot to me, and it was doing fairly vigorous business even during what passes for winter down south.
google avatar

Matt H.

Yelp
Cammie's always gets five stars from me. I LOVE their raspberry cheesecake and strawberry cheesecake ice cream (always on a waffle cone), but today was extra amazing. They had KING CAKE and BANANA MOONPIE ice cream!!! It was the best ice cream that I've had since. . .well, the last time I went to Cammies's. Also, the service is always excellent and they give my wife as much hot fudge on her ice cream as she wants.
