Yelp
Vietnamese spot located in a small strip mall / lot in Venice. Place feels a little larger inside once you walk in and the decor is pretty nice. Nicer than the usual pho spots I'm used to. They have pho, of course, as well as quite a few other cafe staples, like egg rolls and crab fried rice.
Came here recently after watching a movie. It was raining and cold outside, so wanted something soup-y. Saw this place was pretty close to the theater so thought we'd give it a go. Came in and we must of beaten the rush. It was almost empty, but 20 minutes into the meal, it started to get packed with a lot of take out orders. Everyone probably was thinking the same thing with the rain and all. There was only one guy at the time really working the front of house, so he seemed overwhelmed. Felt sorry for him.
So, I I was burned by a westside pho place before, and it being my first time, I thought I should hedge the risk by ordering some crab fried rice and the pho vs. two bowls of pho. I have to say, I thought the pho was tasty and it hit the spot for something warm, but I was thinking the broth may have been over done with the 72 hour process. And do they do like a solera method of broth/ ingredients or a whole new batch every time? Either way, I think it might be a preference thing, but I like my broth a little lighter and less intense. The crab fried rice was good and I was glad I ordered that as well.
Also, it should be noted that the bowl of pho was huge! Lots of broth, noodles, and meat. I ordered the 'butcher' pho, but I think it was missing the meatballs or maybe we got the wrong thing. It was so much broth and the bowl was so big, I figured I would eventually run into a meatball. Sadly, it never happened. The quality of the meat was really good though.
I would say solid spot for the westside. Parking could be pretty tough in the tiny lot. Not sure if it was a meal delivery service or some inconsiderate POS, but some person was blocking me in and I had to find whoever decided to block TWO cars in because they didn't want to find street parking or wait.
