I recently attended my wife's work retreat, where her colleagues stayed for the weekend, and we drove in just for the day. I was looking forward to participating in activities like hiking and archery, but unfortunately, the day didn't quite live up to expectations.
We kicked things off with a hike, which was advertised as "easy" and suitable for kids. However, when we arrived, we were told it would be rough for the younger ones, but we decided to give it a shot anyway. The hike was manageable for us, but it definitely wasn't as easy as we were led to believe.
Next came lunch. It was a Mexican-themed meal, which I was excited about, but I was thoroughly disappointed. They told us it was a taco bar, but they served burritos. The food tasted more like something you'd get at a public school cafeteria--not authentic at all, and definitely not worth the excitement.
Lastly, we tried out archery, which ended up being the biggest letdown of the day. We waited for almost an hour just to shoot three arrows. There were only two lines for a large group of people, making the entire experience feel like a waste of time. The instructors didn't provide much guidance and seemed to assume we'd all know what we were doing right away.
Despite all of this, my son had a good time, which was the most important part of the day. However, I expected a lot more from the experience overall.
