The 37 Best Restaurants in Milan, Italy | Eater

"This Milanese aperitivo establishment sits within the historic Galleria Vittorio Emmanuele, facing Piazza Duomo, and it boasts over 100 years of history. (Rumor has it Davide Campari was born upstairs.) Hungry aperitivo enthusiasts can reserve upstairs tables to taste morsels of squash, balsamic vinegar, and Grana Padano cheese, stracciatella and figs with port, and octopus and lime panella (chickpea fritters). Must-try drink: The Negroni Sbagliato — any time of day." - Elizabeth De Filippo-Jones

Google
Reviewing only the bar / cocktails: Atmosphere: 8.5/10 Located right inside Milan’s Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, across from the Duomo, this historic bar is pure Milan heritage. The full Campari backbar and elegant Art Nouveau details set the tone, while the mosaic floors and frescoes give it that timeless grandeur. Music volume is pleasant, and though there’s no counter seating, you can stand at the bar or grab a table with complimentary snacks. The view of both the cathedral and the Galleria makes this one of the most scenic bar locations anywhere. Drinks: 8.5/10 Recommendation: Cocoa Berry Boulevardier, Negroni The menu is solid, focused heavily on Campari with only a few non-Campari options. Drinks are well executed, clean, and minimal in presentation. Coasters are nice, glassware is average, garnishes simple but fitting. Flavor delivery is consistent — if you’re a Campari fan, this is as authentic as it gets. Service: 8/10 Complimentary snacks arrive with drinks. The team is friendly and professional, though not particularly attentive. No water on arrival, no towels, but the overall experience still feels polished. No reservation needed. Prices are high, as expected for such a prime Milan landmark. This bar is ranked #92 on the World’s 50 Best Bars 2024 (51–100 list). My take: this bar has a unique concept and a unique location with unbeatable views. Paired with great Campari cocktails, it fully deserves its spot.

Google
This restaurant doesn't live up to its high ratings online. It is located in the best commercial/tourist area, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, with great relaxing happy atmosphere. But I feel the waiters who have seen too many tourists coming and going forgot the service standard they should have held up. For example, when we entered the restaurant around 6pm, the waiter immediately told us we couldn't just order coffee. I think the attitude was a bit rude. We ordered veal cutlet and black cod for dinner. The veal cutlet was a thick one different than others' thin cutlets, but surprisingly it tasted tender, juicy and tasty. It came with a bowl of salad which was refreshing. However the cod is pretty disappointing. It looked nice but had no taste at all. Furthermore it was cold inside and a bit raw. (I'm sure I didn't order sashimi) so end up after dinner we truly didn't order coffee as requested 😝.

Google
Iconic Campari bar in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. We came here on a Friday around 2pm and only had to wait for 20 mins for a table. It is a little expensive but it's been here since 1915 so worth a one off visit.

If you want to drink best campari spritz or negeoni in the front of Duomo and in addition eat great local food like risotto with ossobuco or Cotoletta alla milanese then this is the best place in Milan. Super atmosphere, great service and great good and drinks!

Google
The Campari drinks are great as expected. I didn’t try any non-Campari-containing drinks because why would I. Iconic views of the Duomo and people watching. Hard to ask for more from a Campari-focused bar. Pretty small so expect a wait with >2.

Google
It is very close to the Duomo cathedral. The view is magical. It is also very fun to sit next to the luxury shops. The servers are very friendly and nice, you can sip a cocktail while watching the great view. It has been operating since 1915 and serves the legendary aperitivo bitter Campari. I highly recommend getting the tiramisu. It is very delicious. Gorgeous place.

Google
Great service, first class drinks. Prices are higher but a perfect place to celebrate an anniversary or a special occasion, or just as a guest who came on holiday. I recommend making a reservation in advance. It's worth coming.

Google
Very nice atmosphere and setting. The food and drinks are also good. However, it was 9:30 pm and there were out of appetizers! The kitchen closes very early and the bar closes at 10:30 pm... in an area that touristic why would they close everything so early??

Yelp
Made reservations at the upstairs lounge. More subdued than the lively downstairs aperitivo crowd that spills out the door. Wonderful cocktails and bar snacks (included.) A perfect end to the day, especially after our heavy lunch. Great service in a lovely room overlooking the Galleria.

Yelp
Classic location with great views of the Duomo and Galleria. Popped in for a few apperitivos and really enjoyed the experience of this historic location where Campari was first served. I had an Americano and the tried the barrel aged Boulevardier. Both were excellent and drinks of course are served with snacks. We also tried the fried sardines which were very good. Next visit we'll stand at the bar where they offer different items to snack on. Only issue is the restrooms are messy and there's a long line as non-customers frequently come in here.

Yelp
Right in front of the Duomo di Milan, amazing drinks, and yes you guessed it prices for drinks are about the same in the U.S

Yelp
We made our reservations a few months prior to our arrival and so glad we did as there was always a line for entrance to Aparativo. We were lead through the crowd to the upstairs sort of secret bar area where a few locals were also celebrating their evening. Amazing and wonderful food provided during aparativo (Happy Hour in Italy) and each plate is comes when you order your drinks. Compari is King and the craft cocktails are amazing. We selected traditional and contemporary to try a few. Our dinner was delicious as well and the service is high end. I highly recommend this experience.

Yelp
Fun place to stop for a negroni while shopping in the Galleria or visiting the Duomo.

Yelp
Food is good! First time trying campari, very drinkable by itself stirred. Burratta is amazing! It's wrapped in salmon! The sardines is sweet and salty.

Yelp
When in Milan! What a treat to have Campari where it came from in view of the Duomo and people watching in the snazziest place in town. We chose Negroni Sbagliato (16 EUR) and were given three kinds of nibblies - spicy almonds, some kind of nacho, and an olive (?) or small pickled fruit I couldn't identify (tasty). Superb drinks and efficient, top drawer service, prime locale. Worth the money for the experience.

Yelp
We had to get a Campari Spritz from its birthplace after visiting the Duomo. It was midday so it was packed. We opted for the upstairs (Sala Spiritello) crossing our fingers for AC (which there was). The upstairs is a sophisticated space with a full bar with views looking down into the galleria. We didn't do our homework so, when we were there we learned there is a different menu available from the downstairs space where most prefer with people watching. We were the lonely souls upstairs and had one attendant all to ourselves. He was very friendly and provided great service. The highlights on a hot summer day: AC, Campari wall, partial views of the Duomo & Galleria, Campari Spritz, and Pineapple, Campari Sorbet with candied grapefruit. I ate two for lunch and could've had at least one more. I plan to return for the dessert every time I'm in Roma. Yum! It gets uber busy around midday. If you can - make a reservation for your preferred seating experience.

Yelp
We stopped in for aperitivo which, by the way, is frankly one of the greatest inventions known to mankind and I want someone to explain to me why the person who invented it is not held to the same regard as isaac newton or leonardo da vinci. This place is a great place for aperitivo because of its located literally right next to the famous duomo and the striking views it provides. Every member of the service team was friendly and made us feel welcomed. After consuming my body weight in aperol spritz's and campari, we wanted to switch it up and both ordered their negroni sbagliato. I have the palate of a two year old and therefore strongly dislike anything remotely bitter and therefore am not a huge fan of campari but continue to order and drink it anyway. This, as expected, served that campari punch but it was as enjoyable as could be. The snacks provided were what I initially thought was an olive but most likely giant capers, seasoned almonds, chips, and some little pastries including that spinach filled one that is delicious. Our time there was lovely with a beautiful view, nice weather, strong drinks and tasty drinks and I would definitely recommend this place as a spot to enjoy aperitivo.

Yelp
We spent a good few solid hours here on Friday night before heading to see an Opera at La Scala. In terms of location for getting to that destination, this place is perfect. In terms of everything else, not so much. We started downstairs before our upstairs reservation at 6:00 pm. It's a tight squeeze with limited service. The Aperol Spritz is great, and given all the Campari theme, we had to try the Campari spritz, which was bitter but pleasantly so. For the food, the burger is really dry, overcooked, and boring--we only got it for our daughter, who also turned her nose up at it a bit. The caesar salad was a misnomer, but it was fine for getting some light eating in. Upstairs is more pleasant. It's moody with a beautiful bottle decor and larger tables and chairs. All of the fancy cocktails we tried from the menu were lovely. They provide you with little amuse bouche "towers" that have some nice bites, and while the food itself is better than what we got downstairs, but still just OK in the end. Our kiddo got some uber gussied up ravioli that came out with "Italian flag" sauces, and the whole thing was very pretty, but in terms of flavor, could have used a bit more. The eggplant part was mediocre--nothing on it popped. The milanese risotto the pops got was probably the best thing we tried. So, overall, come for the swanky scene and real estate, and enjoy a cocktail or two, but skip the food.

Yelp
As of this review Camparino in Galleria is in the Top 100 Best Bars. It really deserves that title! There are two bars inside their corner establishment - the bottom bar/restaurant is walk in based with no reservations, but the exclusive second floor is reservation only. Note that we had a lot of trouble reserving N their site but we got a reservation by emailing them directly. Upstairs you'll be treated to a welcome snack. It seems as all their signature drinks feature campari in some way. The Wax was delicious and mature, the Paesaggio was a great sweet finisher, and the Sazerac was among the best I've ever had anywhere. From snacks to drinks each item has a funk to it that makes it unique. It may not be your taste, but there is real character and creativity at work here. I can't wait to return.

Yelp
Nice spot to stop in for a negroni, boulevardier, or spritz to relax and watch the hordes of people swarm by. Service is a bit abrupt but they speak English and they make a damn fine Campari cocktail. The mosaic behind the bar is beautiful (as are most of the other bar details). The Campari art is great. The snacks they serve you while drinking are tasty. And the prices reflect all of this. I stopped in once for a quick standing negroni at the bar one night, then came back the next day to actually sit at the table. The price differential between the bar negroni and the seated negroni is real. But of course the charm is sitting to enjoy. Don't need to come back. But glad I stopped in.

Yelp
Have your James Bond moment and order a cocktail in this spectacular hall. It has old school charm with waiters in full uniform. I am not sure if it always the case, but my cocktail came with complimentary appetizers. Milan has a host of happy hours with such an arrangement, but I arrived before noon.
google avatar

Yelp
Great negronis with views of the Duomo if you get to sit in their garden level patio. One of the better bars in this area as they don't upcharge as much as others and their drinks are GOOD

Massimiliano K.

Yelp
Typical Italian staff as soon as they saw my wife and I were a stroller. They immediately came running out saying they didn't have any more croissants. That's like saying McDonald's ran out of hamburgers.
google avatar

Randy B.

Yelp
Right in the heart of touristville. It's the real thing, but feels like Vegas. Service is friendly and they speak English. I can see this restaurant as a place to get a drink, cool down from the sun, and watch all the passerby's. But the food is here is very average, and that's what I went for. Lunch: ====== 1. Basket of bread [free, 1.5 stars]: was not good and day old. What do you want for free? Not this, although the butter was nice. 2. Mushroom risotto [20 euros, 3.5 stars] -- decent, but I think they used jar or canned mushrooms. The sauce was good, and portion was not large but appropriate. Too pricey for this. 3. Greek Salad [16 euros, 4.0 stars] -- good salad, fresh, but way overpriced for a small bowl of salad. 4. White wine [9 euros, 3.0 stars] -- rating is for the price, not the quality. I've been paying 5 and 6 euros elsewhere.

Yelp
First time having a bad meal in Italy.Very disappointed with the taste of everything we ordered, especially after having to wait 30 minutes for a table. It started with the Camparini Seltz, which everyone was ordering so my hubby wanted to give it a try. It was too bitter for him, so he probably should had order the seltzer. It then took about another 30 minutes to get our food. We should have noticed that no one was really ordering food but drinks only and now we know why. I ordered the salmon thinking it was a cooked piece of fish and turned out to be 4 slices of smoked salmon on top of bread crumbs mixed with carrots. It wasn't what I expected but I ate it because I was hungry. My hubby ordered the hamburger and he said it tasted like raw beef jerky. We ordered their squid risotto to share and it was horrendous. It was saturated with lemon juice and very aldente, no nice flavor. The only good thing was the bottled water. It took them 20 minutes to get us our check after asking 2 waiters and then the host. We came here because of Yelp's 4.2 rating. This place is for drinks only if you enjoy Camparini.

Yelp
If you adore Campari as much as I do then this place is heaven on earth. Relax, take in the Galleria and view of the Duomo and have a Campari anyway you can possibly imagine!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is where the history of the Aperitivo became a legend! Below you can read some history I found on their menu, but overall the place is really a 5+. It's fairly packed, but the waiting time for the seating area is no more than 15/20 minutes. Every drink is based on Campari or Zucca bitters, and it includes snacks such as nuts, small focaccine, crackers and olives. It all began back in 1867, when the the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II had recently been completed and Gaspare Campari - inventor of the homonymous bitter - opened the famous Caffè Campari, on the corner with Piazza Duomo. In 1915, Gaspare's son, Davide Campari, opened Camparino as a "younger brother" to Caffè Campari. The new bar was fitted out with an innovative system delivering a constant supply of soda water straight from the cellars, and liberty furnishings made by famous Italian artists and artisans. Camparino quickly became a Milanese institution, not only because the Aperitivo became a ritual here, but also because it attracted intellectuals and celebrities who came to discuss politics and culture over a Campari or two. Arrigo Boito, Tommaso Marinetti and other members of the Scapigliatura movement were regular visitors to the bar.

Yelp
Came to this spot after walking around the Duomo and shopping! It's nice to sit on the patio area which glass so you can see our but doesn't have the noise! They give you snacks to go with the drinks which is really nice, I ate bunch of olives and I don't normally like them, but those were good with my aperol spritz :) Service is nice and they really being Italian just let you take your time even though this is obviously a tourist spot! The price is very good considering the location and it's also Milan(I had aperol spritz for €16 that's half of the size in Florence -_- ) Will recommend if you want to let your legs rest a bit and do some people watching while sipping drinks
google avatar

David E.

Yelp
Yes. Perfect location and great process. Walk into the bar, order and pay with the host ahead of time. Bring your ticket to the bar and get your drink. So efficient. These gents are experts in all things Campari. Free bar snacks don't disappoint. Stop in for a cocktail and stroll the square!

Yelp
After moving back to Italy this was my first stop while out shopping. Wonderful spritz. Exceptional service.

Yelp
Against my better judgement, I decided to take this girl I met on the Internet a few weeks ago with me to Italy. (How could a plan like that ever go wrong?) After nearly 24 hours of travel we arrived in Milan exhausted and hungry. Naturally after all that travel my nerves were on edge, and my patience with my travel partner was ebbing. To make matters worse, she had her hangry on. It had all the telltale signs of truly remarkable travel disaster breakup. Enter Signore Campari and this remarkable bar dedicated to his bitter red liquor, and faster than you can say "deus ex machina" my relationship with Internet Girl is back on track. Located on what has to be the best corner for a cafe in all of Milan, this bar welcomes both tourists and locals alike. A throng of people swirling in front of Milan Cathedral and pressing into the shopping plaza at Galleria Vittorio Emanuele make this a great spot for people watching. The interior is gorgeous with its ornate carved Italian counter, wrought iron chandeliers and comfy overstuffed chairs. The white jacketed waitstaff are handsome and efficient. (But per favore, miei compagni americani, please do not be in a rush. This is not the place for that.) Internet Girl and I had Campari based cocktails -- Campari orange for her and Negroni for me -- and the accompanying free snacks. Blood sugar levels elevated and those crazy red alcohol demons doing their dirty work on our thought processes, we stumbled out into Milan's maddening crowds with renewed vigor. Refreshed and revived, we were ready to face the rest of the afternoon.
google avatar

Araks A.

Yelp
This place was great! My husband and I stopped for a drink before dinner. There was live music and great people watching, and the free aperitivos (am I using this word correctly?) were so filling we were actually not too hungry for dinner afterward.
google avatar

Jeremy Y.

Yelp
Walked in without a mask. The other people at the bar were not wearing masks so I thought that was okay. Still not sure of the rules. Guy motioned for me to put my mask on. I apologized and immediately put it on. Then he left the bar. No offer of a drink or anything. Stood there like an idiot with my wife while the only other people in the place yucked it up over Aperol Spritz and Aperitif. It looked good, but after a few minutes of no attention, we left. Maybe your stuff is good, but your service and snotty ass behavior get you a 1, and I don't give that out offen.
google avatar

Steven H.

Yelp
Had afternoon drinks here a few times while in Milan. They make a very delicious Aperol spritz (one of my favorite cocktails ever!). Drinks come with nibbles like green olives, mini quiches and addictive potato chips. Wait staff is attentive and they do not rush you at all (actually no one in Italy rushes you - love that!). You can watch the Galleria crowd walk by - it seems like an endless parade of humanity, some elegant, most NOT. It also offers a very nice view of the Duomo square.
google avatar

Christine T.

Yelp
Aperitivo in the heart of the city! When we came to the home of the Campari there was an event, so it was pretty festive. For our first ever Italian aperitif, we ordered the Camapari Orange from the bar and took in the view. The Sun was just setting over the Duomo and it's plaza. It was just fantastic. There's a cafe sitting area but we wanted to enjoy the vibe and snacks at the bar. Great times!
google avatar

Serj K.

Yelp
This place is set up directly infront of the big Gallerie Mall and the Duomo and the only good thing about it is the location honestly... This was our first cafe stop on our tour in Milan and it was ridiculously expensive... For a 6 oz coffee for $6.00 is pretty ridiculous... Three cappucinos ended up costing up almost 30 euros... and the coffee wasn't that great of a taste.
google avatar

Tracey W.

Yelp
In the midst of all the hustle and bustle is a small inconspicuous cafe restaurant and bar Zucca the famous home of Mr Camparino and the birthplace of the famous (but vile tasting)drink Campari. The staff here are so lovely!Welcoming and helpful,I sit in the outer area in the galleria and sip my variety of new beverages from Campari to a drink from chinese rhubarb! Enjoy the complementary pastries and snacks too- a welcome break from the madness of milan.
google avatar

Davud J.

Yelp
Wonderful place to sit and enjoy Milan. Drinks are great but pricey. Waiter we had was so very nice. Try an Americano. His favorite was perfect. Sit outside to relax or stay at bar like locals.
google avatar

John O.

Yelp
Stopped here many time's for drinks during my stay in Milano last March. It's the prefect Cafè in the prefect location. The wait staff here are great, they understand english well.

Patricia C.

Yelp
The birthplace of Campari! They have an enclosed patio that is nice for people-watching while having a drink. The price of a drink seems high but it includes a few appetizer foods with your drinks -- olives, homemade potato chips and puff pastries with savory fillings. A nice place to relax after touring Il Duomo.

Paul S.

Yelp
Grab a table on the terrace and a Campari drink of your choice and people watch in the Galleria. They will serve a some chips, olives and other goodies with your drink and you won't be rushed. A must do in Milano.
