2022 Toronto MICHELIN Bib Gourmands

"If you’re here for anything but tacos, you’ve come to the wrong place. The menu is short and sweet, but still, how does one pick between the smoky barbacoa with jalapeño salsa and the flaky, beer-battered haddock with red cabbage? Everything arrives fast and hot, and then, in a blink, it’s all over and you’re back outside, plotting your inevitable return." - The MICHELIN Guide

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If you’re craving tacos and a solid lineup of margaritas and drinks, Campechano is a must-visit! The portions are generous and absolutely packed with flavor—you’ll be surprised how full you feel after just two tacos. Their chips and guacamole are also top-tier—super fresh and addictive. We tried a wide variety of tacos, including lamb, beef, chicken, and cauliflower—and every single one was bursting with flavor. Honestly, they were so damn good. Highly recommend this spot!

Tacos are one of my favourite foods, so I was excited to try this place. Unfortunately, I found the tacos a bit underwhelming. While the flavours were fairly good, they didn’t stand out either. In particular, the birria was disappointing. There was no consomme for dipping, and the sauce was just mediocre. On a positive note, the pollo al pastor was nice and refreshing, especially with the pineapple bits, and the pescado was fairly good. The standout dish was the chips and guacamole; the pomegranate added a lovely, refreshing flavour and texture, and the chips were nicely fried without being too greasy. The service was good, and the atmosphere was cute and cozy. That said, I think there are better taco spots in the city, and the hype around this place seems over rated.

We walked into this cozy restaurant in College St on a Friday night without knowing anything about this place. The building looked very nice and that attracted us. Definitely nice and cozy vibes. We tried the cocktails, and the spicy margarita was great. Keep in mind that there is no wine or juice in the drink menu. The food menu is very limited, mainly tacos, which are not the best. Also, the portions are too small, with each meal being only one Taco. You need to order at least 3 times. We also tried the guacamole and slasa with tortilla, which was the best. There is only one dessert in the menu.

Had a fantastic time celebrating a friend’s birthday dinner at Campechano! The restaurant had a great ambiance. It was a bit noisy, which wasn’t a problem for us because we enjoy talking and listening to music over dinner- but for those who prefer a quieter ambiance, might not be the spot for that on a Friday night. The food was amazing; we all ordered a variety of tacos, from the dish, to steak, to chorizo, and all enjoyed everything we ordered. We also had the chips and guac/salsa, which tasted really fresh and delicious! We ended the evening with the tres leches dessert- tasted fresh, creamy, and delicious. We also enjoyed the margarita pitcher, as well as the spicy margarita pitcher. Enjoyed both, but the spicy margarita was especially tasty. We enjoyed the salted and spiced rim of the cups, as well as the cucumber and jalapeño flavours in the drink. I’d come back just for this margarita! Service was great, we had a few different servers helping us and floating around, and they were all lovely. Overall, we had a lovely evening and I look forward to returning to try out some more dishes.

Great place. We had 4 tacos - our top 2 are pescado and carne con queso. The drinks are super. Try spicy margarita - spicy with a fresh scent of cucumber, - and pina mezcalita. Yummy 😋

Great restaurant that specializes in tacos. The atmosphere is chic and welcoming. It's easy to make online reservations and the service is excellent and timely. They have lots of cocktails, wine, and virgin drinks. The salsa and guacamole were very good. They have lots of taco options, all with great flavour profiles. What you see on the menu is for one taco but they are very filling. 2-3 per person is more than enough. If driving you may find a hard time finding parking (it's limited and can be expensive). The streetcar is a good option to get here.

Booked a reservation for dinner here yesterday, when asked to sit at a patio table that was available hostess told us it was being reserved for another reservation which would have been fine if the table wasn’t empty for our whole experience. Atmosphere is nice, drinks and food are decent, just don’t know why everything came out one by one? I ordered birria which came first, my partner ordered 3 different tacos which all came out about 10 minutes apart from each other, so when I was finished my meal his first taco came out? I was watching him eat for the duration of our time, never have experienced that at any restaurant before especially considering it’s just individual tacos. Service was okay, truthfully would probably not return.

Excellent fish taco! Fish was crispy and seasoned well. I got a barbacoa taco as well which was good (fish was better though). We had a big group but the servers were very organized with our orders (we each ordered more than one taco). I also appreciated that they brought out one taco per person at a time, so that the other tacos didn't sit around getting soggy. Service is friendly and prices are decent.

Yelp
Y'all the hype is real. This is my favourite taco spot in Toronto officially. This location is super intimate and defs gives date vibes. Highly recommend making a reso because things were poppin right after we got sat. Barely an empty seat in the house. I got 2 tacos and they were amazing and I can't stop thinking about them. They first brought out the Pescado and I was blown away. I even said I wished they had brought out the Pescado last because there was no way the next one would top this (foreshadowing). The fish was done just right and the slaw and sauce were the perfect accompaniments to the fish. It was a solid taco all around. Then came the carne con queso. When I TELL you I can't stop thinking about this. The cheese pulls on this was something else. The cheese with the meat is the perfect pairing but the spice on this?! Sooooo good. It's defs got a kick but a flavourful one. I can't wait to come back just for this. Now, I had to try the tres leches because I'm a tres leches junkie. It was good but for the size, I'd skip it next time. Not mind blowing enough to get again. Anyways, I need to figure out how to eat more tacos in one sitting because there's so many more I want to try but also still get the ones I know I love lol.

Yelp
Category: Taqueria (fancy). Excellent place all around! The tacos are delicious. The place is casual, but hip. The service is very good. Here's my overall rating: Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Value: 3/5 We started with the guac and salsa. It was rather small offering for $12. The salsa was more of a sauce than a salsa, but it was still pretty good. The chips are the highlight. The servers were generous to keep brining more chips upon request. The tacos we got were all very delicious. Here is the ranking of our favourite ones. 1. Pescado - delicious fish taco. A must. 2. Tinga De Pollo - pulled chicken 3. Tinda De Rez - braised beef brisket 4. Bistec - steak 5. Campechano - steak + choritzo 6. Chorizo - chorizo The tacos are loaded with lots of delicious meat. Often there's a drizzle of a sauce or two for extra flavouring and creaminess. The star is the taco itself. It's home-made with special corn from Mexico. Also be sure to try the sweet milk drink. It's made with spices, and is so fragrant you're not sure you should drink it or bath in it ;) So, overall a very nice dining experience. My only complaints are that that the tacos were missing a kick. I was hoping for some bolder flavours, like smoke, or grill, or a crunch of fresh onion or other veggies. There was no cilantro or lime to be found. I asked for Pico de Gallo, but was informed they don't have it. I asked for hot sauce, and it was pretty good, but not great. You could get better authentic Mexican hot sauces at the local grocery store (try El Yucateco - XXXTRA Hot Sauce - amazing hot sauce) . My other complaint is that you don't get a bang for your buck. Each taco is around $10. You would need to order 2-3 tacos to be satiated, so the prices add up. Still, I would definitely recommend this place. It gets busy, so make a reservation.

Yelp
Im a big taco fan, overall the place is decent. Service is reasonable unless there are big groups. I felt that the taco was too saucey. The fish was tacos were good but one of them was over cooked. The dessert was underwhelming.

Yelp
This is a great place for everyone to enjoy something- meat eaters, vegetarian, vegans...everything is pretty standout, including the service. The server we had was so friendly and just lovely. I had an issue with one of my dishes (more taste preference as I found it overly salty - it was the taco with cauliflower ) and he took it back no issues and I ordered something else. This is the 2nd location- the original being on Adelaide. It's a bit unassuming as there are no large restaurant signage and you have to walk up stairs ( it was probably a house at some point). The menu is unique- I got a Papa - which is a potato taco. I've never see that anywhere before and it was delicious! The fried potatoes in the taco just work so wonderfully. You get that nice crispy bite from the potatoes, but layered in their creamy sauce is just so unexpected I also tried the Al pastor taco - chicken, pineapple , spicy sauce...and the sweetness of the pineapple with the heat (and there was definitely heat) made it a flavourful bite. I believe they change up their menu from time to time so I'll definitely check back in a few months to see what unique spin they've come up with. Definitely make reservations because it's not a large space, and it gets busy.

Yelp
Nice place to have a taco with friends. Interior of the place is very fancy and upscaled. Overall the food was decent but not the best yet reliable. For pollo taco, it was at best mediocre so I will order a different dish next time. Their dessert was the highlight of our dinner. I am willing to revisit it.

Yelp
Along with the Adelaide street location, this is one of my fave taco spots in Toronto. I've tried pretty much everything on the menu by now and there really aren't any misses - everything is solid at the least. My favourite is definitely the steak. Service was great, food was great, and drinks were great - can't go wrong here.

Yelp
Tried this place with my friend for dinner. Although it was Tuesday night, the restaurant was pretty busy and lively. It's a tacos bar so they don't have a big menu but they have so many different kinds of tacos with unique flavors and ingredients. We ordered two tacos of each, guacamole chips and two glasses of cocktails. Tacos were delicious! Each tacos came with lots of ingredients so two tacos were substantial for dinner (for women). Drinks were nice too. Service was very friendly and fast. I liked the vibe of this place as well.

Yelp
Utterly fantastic food. Came here on the recommendation of a farmer I get my meat from. Everything is fresh and absolutely delicious. I have vegan friends who are also able to enjoy many incredible selections, I have enjoyed the too, the mushroom and cauliflower tacos are fantastic. Nothing disappoints. The venue is bright and spacious, the cocktails are flavourful and some a little spicy and the servers are cheery and friendly. Freshly prepared Masa tortillas, bite sized chips for the fresh guac and salsa, locally sourced incredients. You must check it out. Been back several times. There is one dessert and it is beautiful.

Yelp
--The Down Low-- Food: 5/5 Service: 4.5/5 Quality vs. Price: 4.5/5 Vibe: 4/5 I came here for dinner with a group of friends on a Wednesday evening. Seating was prompt, as we had a reservation. We were seated on the street-side patio. We had booked for a much larger group, but some of the group didn't end up being able to make it. However, the servers were polite and understanding of the situation. I got the Pescado (battered fish), Pastor (pork), and Pollo (chicken) tacos. They were all amazing in general, but I think I prefered the Pastor the most. In terms of price, I do think it's more expensive per taco than some other places in downtown Toronto. Each taco was $8 or $9, and the total came to approximately $32 with tax and tip. However, I do think you're paying for good quality food. The washrooms were clean and nice to use. The things that lowered the rating slightly were that (1) it was sometimes hard to flag down a server and (2) since the street-side patio is right on College Street, it was sometimes really hard to converse with vehicles constantly passing by and, dust from the street often got kicked up and landed on the table. I would probably ask for a patio table in the front "deck" or indoors next time. Overall, if you're looking for great tacos downtown and don't mind paying slightly more, this is the place. I would definitely return in the future!

Yelp
The new Campechano is very pretty in a spare way. The lack of soft furnishings made the place very noisy, which was exacerbated by the very loud music, but they were happy to turn the music down upon request. The tacos were fresh and delicious, just a bit pricey. All in all a good meal. They will give La Carnita - across the street - a run for their money.
