The Top Family-Friendly Restaurants in Dallas | Eater

"With a storied history of more than 65 years, Campisi’s knows what works to keep families returning to their tables. If your crew is seeking hot, fresh, and authentic Italian, Campisi’s delivers on all counts. The made-to-order pasta and Sicilian-style pizza will leave anyone wanting seconds (or thirds, if there’s any left). Make room for dessert like New York-style cheesecake, tiramisu or chocolate cake." - Vox Creative

It was recommended to me to give this pizza place a try. I can’t say enough good things about this pizza place from the moment I walked in the staff made me feel welcome and comfortable. The atmosphere is warm inviting with plenty of seating and I was able to meet three employees Matthew the bartender, Jonathan one of the managers along with one other gentleman which all excelled in hospitality. I was able to give the Greek pizza a try and the pizza crust was just how I love it! thin and crispy crust! Service was exceptional and Matt the bartender shared lots regarding the extensive history on the Place which intrigued me, if you’re looking for a great atmosphere good pizza, friendly staff, give it a try definitely FIVE stars in my book!

Walked in and requested a table and they straight away cleaned it and set it up for me. Good service, amazing food. My husband doesn’t even like Italian food and said this was the best pizza he has ever had in his life! The server accidentally took my salad when I wasn’t finished and brought me a brand new one.

This was kind of a sad experience. We made a reservation weeks in advance for our large party. We had two tables of about 12. Table 1 was already having their entrees brought to the table before our table even got to order. It took an hour & a half before our food came. Then getting our bills was like a circus and two of us never were even given a bill. My daughter and I ordered the cheese ravioli. I got red sauce, she got the Alfredo sauce. My raviolis were hard, which is a shame because the filling was tasty. My daughter had a weird reaction to the Alfredo sauce, then talking with others who also had the same sauce they all seemed to agree something was "wrong with it." For two plates of not-good food and one alcoholic drink + tip I paid $70. Very disappointing experience. I would not dine here again.

I visited this restaurant with five colleagues, making a party of six, and while the food was excellent, there were some aspects of the experience that could be improved. We had to line up and place our orders at the counter, cafeteria-style, and prepay for lunch. For a sit-down restaurant with such a nice ambiance, this felt out of place and took away from the overall dining experience. It’s something management should reconsider, especially for larger groups. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with soft candlelight setting a relaxed tone for the meal. Our table enjoyed a variety of appetizers—crispy toasted ravioli with tangy marinara, fresh and vibrant bruschetta topped with ripe tomatoes and basil, and perfectly fried calamari served with lemon wedges and a rich dipping sauce. The entrées were equally enjoyable: a beautifully grilled salmon with tender, flaky texture and flavorful sautéed vegetables, and creamy linguine with garlic bread that was indulgent and satisfying. With some adjustments to the ordering process, this could easily be a top-tier spot to return to.

Google
The interior is really dark and makes it hard to see the menu and the food. They didn't have the veal (1 star off) so I ordered the salmon, which was pretty good. It came with a huge portion of overcooked pasta in an excessively spiced vodka sauce. Salad was just limp iceberg in a PLASTIC bowl. Shrimp scampi (appetizer) was ok but rather bland and not properly sauteed, not enough garlic (1 star off). Service from the waiter was great. Too bad they can't match the food with the quality of the service.

Over the years, three generations of our family have dined at Campisi's. Whether a family celebration, a birthday, or graduation party, you can always count on consistently good food. When our son got engaged, there was no question where he wanted the rehearsal dinner. We hosted 60 people in the larger Stone Street side of the Elm Street location. It had a nice ambiance, the food was delicious, and the service was impeccable. For starters we chose pizza, crab claws and toasted ravioli, and for dinner - lasagna, eggplant parmigiana, shrimp scampi and penne with chicken. Kim, the catering sales director, was easy to work with, and had great suggestions. All in all it was a wonderful evening and a great way to kick off a celebratory weekend!

I went to this restaurant to see if this place was worth all of the hype. The overall atmosphere was dark and one could say somewhat cozy. I ordered a pizza and I must say it was above average. I would recommend this restaurant.

Google
A classic Italian restaurant experience! No rush; great ambience and décor; attentive and friendly service; and really delicious food. I ordered their porkchop special with a side of spinach, (And it was even better as leftovers!) and my son ordered a steak. If I'm back in Dallas, I'm definitely coming back here!

Yelp
We were walking around the area where our hotel was and ran across Campisi's. I had not eaten there since my daughter was playing select soccer 20 years ago. We walked in and were seated immediately. Our waiter was very nice and came over quickly to take our drink and food order. We ordered the toasted ravioli and of course their pizza. It was very packed inside, but we were able to carry on a conversation perfectly fine. The ravioli was good, but it didn't look very appetizing when it came out. There were six very small ones on our plate. Don't get me wrong, they were very good, they just needed to be bigger. Next .... The PIZZA!!!!! We love a thin crust pizza and this one is sooooo good. We got a medium with pepperoni, mushrooms, and jalapeños. It was just like how I remembered it. Absolutely delish. We weren't even able to finish half of it so of course we had to take the rest to the hotel! Even cold it has to be one of the best pizzas we have had in a while. I am so glad we stopped.

Yelp
I've been to Campisis 3 times since 2021 and each time has just been mediocre. The ambiance is certainly the best part given the old school Italian mobster vibe. The employees are all very nice and helpful. The food however, is just terrible. The chicken was so dry and flavorless. The lasagna was rubbery. The bread was stale. The salad was cheap. Don't waste your time here.
google avatar

Lily M.

Yelp
The pizza is still pretty freaking delicious, I didn't like the salad last time and thought I would like it this time.. I still don't like it!!! The pizza makes up for it though. I enjoy the dark ambiance of the restaurant, with the beautiful candle lit tables. The service is 10/10 as everyone who works there treats you like family as soon as you walk in.

Yelp
Tried Campisi's shell pasta with marinara and baked manicotti--the manicotti was rich and cheesy (a win), but the shells tasted overcooked and the sauce lacked depth. Garlic rolls still stole the show. Classic old-Dallas vibe, though service felt rushed.

C W.

Yelp
Terrible. Burnt cracker crust pizza with a few pieces of chicken scattered across. Tiny amount of cheese. The small salad had way too much pepper and salt and I asked for balsamic not Caesar dressing. Really bad pizza would have been better off going to domino's. This pizza wasn't enough for one person and pizza and salad was over 40 bucks.

Yelp
I know this is a simple spot but I was blown away by the flavors. The bruschetta was sOOOoOo flavorful like omg !! The espresso was good too! The ambiance gave grown, mysterious, sexy...like I'm living in the sopranos in New York..the service was ok but deff worth the try

Yelp
Came here with a party of 10, they were very patient with us as we decided who was sitting where. Servers were awesome. I had the meat supreme pizza and was really good, the rest thought the food was just ok. The penne pasta Alfredo was short of aldente and the girls didn't like it, was a bit tough and not much flavor. The waiters did offer to comp them but we all agreed to pay. Gave them four stars for their awesome service.

Yelp
Came here for a quick lunch. Pizza and salad were decent. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean.

Yelp
Carlos and team nailed it tonight for our business dinner. We were lucky enough to partner with Campisi's to host 50+ librarians during TLA '25. Carlos just happened to be a fan of libraries and said that librarians were "the unsung heroes" of the times. He was kind enough to sing the librarians' praises and I got a candid of him talking about how much it meant to him to use credible resources when he was taking classes in high school. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. Thank you, Campisi's!

Yelp
Stumbled here for lunch during the week. The prices were reasonable and the restaurant looked nice so the lots of fancy decor. There was plenty of seating inside and out and not a ton of people there (probably a bad sign). The staff wasn't friendly and had me order at the counter when I walked in. I got a salad and two topping pizza for around $12. None of it was that good. The pizza tasted like cardboard and the salad was heavily doused in dressing. I was disappointed but maybe this place is better for dinner or I came at a bad time?

Yelp
First time visit to Campisi's. Outstanding service and food! There is a lot of seating. Ambiance is warm. Reservations are recommended. We made reservations for 4. By the time our meal ended seating was full. Andre was our server. All the way from Italy. Andre represented Campisi's excellence! Andre's service was exemplary. He never let our beverages remain empty for long. He was very kind, engaging and professional! Mitch was another server that stopped by. Mitch offered tips on local venues and spent some time even jotting down some of his favorite places. I highly recommend this place. I will be going back!

Yelp
The good news was the portions were enormous. The bad news it was a whole lot of awful. Just bad, gloppy, lukewarm Italian food with funky red sauce, weird-tasting meatballs and terrible lasagna. House salad was the best part of the meal, but it went quickly downhill from there. My wife had the pasta sampler, ate a bite of each item and immediately said it was inedible. I took a bite of each and agreed. Service was kinda scattered, amazing since there were hardly any customers in the place for a 6 p.m. on a Monday dinner downtown. This might be the worst Italian meal I've ever eaten in a restaurant.
google avatar

Erika J.

Yelp
Stopped by in the afternoon, walked inside and it was completely empty. I should have known that was a sign, but I had tried to go to two other places nearby and they were closed. I got the angel hair pasta with red sauce and added chicken. It was very average and bland. Very little sauce, just a little bit put on top, but none below the chicken so it was pretty dry. I will say it was a lot of food! I could never eat all of it in one sitting. It comes with a little salad and bread, both of which were pretty good and better than my entree.
google avatar

Mandy A.

Yelp
We had bbq chicken pizza and meat ball spaghetti., Bbq chicken pizza was okay, not bad, but meat ball didn't taste all right at all. Tastes like someone who doesn't have chef experience at all. The noodles were very soggy, and meat ball had very bland taste. The sauce was so bad. Tasted like someone poured can of spaghetti sauce from the shelf of grocery store. The customer service was okay, the food was terrible for the price we paid.
google avatar

Marcel T.

Yelp
Food 3.5/5 the 5 appetizers before 630pm is their best deal. Spaghetti and meatballs was not great although a big portion. Ambiance and Service 4/5 was attentive, and a clean well kept restaurant

Molly J.

Yelp
the service was bad. we kept getting argued with and they had no idea what we ordered server had terrible attitude and was very mean. and they told us to put our phones away. Got way to close to minors and yelled at them.

Yelp
While this isn't a nightmare on Elm Street(see address) , Campisi's has a mixed bag of pluses and minuses. Location was good if staying downtown but distant enough from state fair area. Located right across from Hilton garden inn. We were seated right away without reservation for a party of 4. Server was personable and attentive even with his other two larger parties. We ordered drinks and a Greek pizza which was the best part. The pizza was loaded with ingredients and crispy hot. From there on the Italian food we ordered along with side salads were average at best. Sauce tasted like jarred sauce. My salmon was small and basic seasoning. I ordered my veggies steamed rather than sautéed and they were steamed but with no real flavor. The pasta combo plate had a good variety with ravioli, lasagna & meatball but again the flavor just didn't taste homemade. Being Italian, we had a difficult time enjoying the meal. Just filled the belly with a $200+ price tag. Bottom line. Go for drinks and pizza only.

Yelp
I had an extremely disappointing experience at Campisi's today. We had a reservation at 3:30 PM--well within their posted lunch special hours of 11 AM to 4 PM--but when it came time to order, we were told the lunch specials were no longer available due to the waiter not having enough time to take our orders and placing them in system. When we politely pointed out the timing, the manager came over and was shockingly rude and dismissive. Instead of trying to make things right, he doubled down and treated us as if we were the problem. If a restaurant advertises lunch specials until 4 PM, they should honor them--especially when the reservation was made for 3:30pm and we were ready to order 10 minutes later. And there is absolutely no excuse for the way we were spoken to. I've enjoyed Campisi's in the past, but after this experience, I won't be back. There are plenty of places in town that serve great food and treat their customers with basic respect.

Yelp
Well my husband and I - are huge Campsi's fans - but not so much of this location - the pizza my husband always gets is garlic, itialin sausage and green onions. the whole this is the amount of toppings and garlic - if you do it right it is actually a magical combination, the crust was dry and overcooked, I ordered just an appetizer for I was not very hungry I had the baked ravioli's - very deflated with no filling - so dry, old tasting and deflated - We believe Campsi's is loosing something - their service and their care for the food. What a shame for a Dallas Original.

Connor D.

Yelp
Incompetent and rude staff. We placed an order hours before and when we called they claimed that they had no order while berating my wife. Won't be dining here again

Yelp
We stopped in on a Thursday at 830, 30 minutes before they closed, so we assumed they would be irritated. We were wrong! After driving in crazy traffic for over 4 hours, the group wanted some excellent wine and a good meal. The wine selection, they said, was good, and most got at least one glass. The staff was fast but not rushing us, and the atmosphere was cozy. They have two rooms for dining; we walked into the side room but sat in the main room. It reminded me of those old Italian joints in the movies. Great ambiance!! I had the meatball appetizer; it was good but just lacked flavor. Everyone else had pasta dishes, and I mourned my choice. The portions were huge, and the takeaway boxes were full. We plan to return during this trip, and I'm getting the shrimp scampi!

Yelp
From Tulsa, Ok staying at a hotel 0.4 miles from Mockingbird location. Paid $65 plus with a $20 tip before I realized what I got We ordered large pizza, pasta, dessert What we got was Cold pizza cold pasta and no silverware. How do you eat pasta with no silverware well I tried with my fingers. I had already paid for it to be delivered I didn't want to Uber for silverware. It wouldn't have been so bad had I not left such a huge tip to receive good service less than a 1/2 a mile and it was so cold. Over an hour wait. Honestly I wasn't expecting top tier but hot would have been nice.

Yelp
This is a Dallas institution. For a great experience, grab a seat at the bar and order a glass of wine while you wait for your food. The pastas are delicious and the pizza is pretty good for Dallas. Robert is a great bartender! They close kind of early so get there earlier and then enjoy the surrounding nightlife.

Yelp
After a little bit of confusion upon entering, everything got better. As we entered no one was at the front to greet us. It was early12:30 on Sunday and downtown Dallas so,there's not gonna be a crowd. Evidently you walk to the back and order at the register. I saw a lady waving us to the back so we proceeded. She enthusiastically explains we order there, pay and she will bring our food out . So we took menus to a front window booth( fantastic) and slowly perused the offerings. After a decision we went to the back and ordered. Our food came out a short time later, delivered to our table. I imagine during busy times they have waitresses because of the size of the place. As a native Dallasite,my history with the original Campesis goes back to my childhood. It's a legendary place in Dallas and the original location is still there in all it's glory. This is one of the many satellite locations opened over the years. The star attraction is always the pizza and it's always good. Today we ordered: Small pepperoni sausage- really good. Thin crispy crust, just the right ratio of ingredients Pasta combo- Ravioli,Lasagna,Meatball and Spaghetti. Big portions and flava Chicken Picatta over Angel hair- nice lemon butter, caper sauce All the food was delicious with plenty for take home If you need an Italian American fix with great prices, atmosphere and history, I suggest you swing by here if downtown and check it out . Grab a window booth up front and tell them Guy H sent ya!

Yelp
Disappointing birthday dinner for a friend. Service was good. Crab claw appetizer was best we ever had after previous poor quality. I ordered veal parm which was an endless search for a good lean bite. All I got was gristle and breading. How does prep or cook/chef not see that, cook it and serve? Finally gave up and informed the waitress. Nicely offered to replace it - which they did. So, now ate a better serving while everyone else was done and got to watch me eat. Manager did stop and offer weak explanation. Not sure if it was taken off bill as I did not pay. Wife had ravioli which was forgettable. Would be difficult to return with other reliable Italian restaurants. Update to previous information: Tried my leftovers today. Spaghetti / sauce was good. The veal parmigiana meat was just as bad or worse than the first one I sent back. Every bite was 25-50% gristle. I'm no chef but I know what quality control is. There is a problem here. Changed rating from 2 to 1 star.

Yelp
This is a smaller location but it's quaint and a great spot for a nightcap - the atmosphere is cozy and inviting - we Ordered the cheese pizza .. a salad and penne pasta with pink sauce. I have eaten at Campisis many times but it has been a different location and probably 4 years ago, back then they were great .. the sauces were all rich and flavorful with robust spices and authentic flavor.. This time I found the overall flavor and food to be a bit bland in both the pizza and the pasta.. I was a disappointed but as far as the salad it was fantastic! The dressing was tangy and flavorful lettuce was fresh .. so I will definitely be back for the salad and hoping today was just an off day on the pizza and pasta! Will give em a try again it's Campisis after all!!
google avatar

Irene K.

Yelp
Get the veal it is delicious and tender! Pasta was a bit overcooked for my preference of Al dente. Artichokes and the sauce was yummy on everything. If they mixed that sauce on the pasta, would be amazing!!! The Tiramisu meets the hype. It's worth it and calories. Find that extra room in your tummy and try it! Ambiance is classic. Saw families there & people hanging at the bar.. also people on date nights. Ask for the olive oil & balsamic for the fresh bread Services is on point. Prompt. Courteous and helpful. - 5 star

Yelp
If I could give a big fat zero stars, then I would. Yesterday at around 8 o'clock I walked over to Campisi's and sat at the bar, close to the server well but not in it and the bartender asked me to move to the other side in a very passive aggressive way. Complained about having a big party and making a bunch of martinis.. In reply to that I said "yeah that's normally how it goes." The bartender- I think his name was Boo asked if I was ever in the service industry because why would I say yeah that's how it goes and I told him that I was for 8 years. He flat out called me a liar. I ordered a cocktail and also food to go. Lasagna and the crab claws. Finished my cocktail and walked back home. I live right across the street so in that time there is no reason why I should have had over cooked which I called dry crab claws, unless they were already given to me that way. I called Campisi's and spoke to the host and she gave the phone to the manager Ahry. Told him the issue and he asked if I would text him a picture of the crab claws which I did. He told me that they were not dry and I told him that he is merely looking at a picture. I am the customer that's eating the claws and they are dry because they were over cooked. I told him that I could not eat the crab claws and ask for a refund or credit. He insisted that they were not dry and I'm telling him just because they are sitting in a pound of butter does not mean that they are not over cooked, which makes them dry. He pissed me off so bad that I decided to bring them back for him to see himself. Once I got there, he open the box and said yes those are not dry and that sent me over the edge. I asked him to try it and he said it again multiple times that they were not dry and there was nothing wrong with the crab claws. As a manager all you had to say was, I'm sorry about that ma'am let me cook them again for you or would you like a refund not argue me up and down about the quality of the food saying he's done this for 20 something years and he knows that they're not dry. He's dead wrong, and I will never step foot in that place again. Even in the photo that I sent to him you can see how over cooked the crab claws are despite sitting in 100 liters in of butter. TRASH.

Yelp
I've reviewed this restaurant many times and I can't over emphasize how traditional and reasonably priced it is ! A lot of food for not much money and the old-school quality is there ! They have several locations that I've eaten at and it's consistent, good and the service is fast. Pizza and sandwiches at the Luv field.
google avatar

Candyce V.

Yelp
Wow. I'm writing this review while I'm at the restaurant. Totally wasn't expecting this pizza to be as good as it is--but it's delicious! Get the side of ranch, btw. We are at the bar and Bobby has been wonderful. Definitely coming back!

Yelp
Food: For a lunch special, the food was good. I liked the salad a lot, and the pasta sampler was decent. The lasagna was my least favorite. Service: The ordering in the back seemed weird, so I sat at the bar and ordered there. The server was good and kept my pop full. Ambiance: It is a nice place. I didn't mind sitting at the bar. Cleanliness: The dining room was clean. Price: The lunch price was good for the amount of food. Overall: I would come back, especially if staying in a nearby hotel. The guy next to me ordered a personal pizza, and it looked good. I want to try that.
google avatar

Liam R.

Yelp
Great service. Delicious small Greek pizza. My waiter, Ryan, was personable and professional. After I found out he has cartooning skills, he took a few seconds to draw a small caricature of me.
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
The sauce on the food was great! But the pasta seems as if it is the one you buy from the store. It's like a next step up from Olive Garden. the staff he is amazingly helpful. Saul was very attentive. Would come back to sit and enjoy the outdoor patio.
google avatar

Mark N. T.

Yelp
I visited around noon. I saw many people waiting. I went to the Dallas trolley, then tried to go to another Campisi. LOL. But the trolley was so slow that I returned to Campisi. It was around 1;30pm. Hectic hours were over. I went inside. I ordered one of the daily specials. The pizza and salad were okay. I like the atmosphere. I was checking the website and reading the history. I enjoyed the Campisi family's story. This is not super good. But if you want to enjoy budget-friendly and mediocre pizza, please visit here! You are a part of the history of Dallas!

Warren S.

Yelp
Food was horrible. Lasagna is similar to Chef Boyardee. They brought the appetizer out AFTER the main course. How is an Italian restaurant out of Caesar salad???
google avatar

Arthur P.

Yelp
Campisis can do no wrong for me. Their pizza is crisp and sauce present! A combination I look for in any pizza! The thing that caught me off guard is their intimate vibe inside it really is nice and would make a nice place for a date!
google avatar

Amy R.

Yelp
Very friendly/accommodating staff and great food! Taylor was our server and he was great and fast at getting our food and drinks out. Had the calamari, chicken spinach alfredo pizza, and the meat Supreme pizza. All were amazing! Campisi cocktail was also very good and strong! Looking forward to coming back!
google avatar

Skyy S.

Yelp
I stopped by on Saturday with my mom since I have only ever ordered on door dash. Our server was super friendly and helped with any questions we had about the menu. We started with the campisi drink which was insanely strong. The toasted ravioli seemed burnt and I would honestly just skip on those. The pizza however is amazing! My mom can't stop talking about it. We will definitely be back!

Shauna S.

Yelp
I was disappointed. A restaurant established in 1946 had an ambiance that made you want to sit and reminisce about a bygone era, but the food didn't measure up. The restaurant was set up in order at the counter in the rear of the restaurant, and menus were on the counter and couldn't be taken to the table. I stayed longer just to listen to the music.

Sarabella F.

Yelp
Unfortunately the food was okie, and when we were there the server's were fight. They were yelling so loud and our server just walked out. I of course feel bad but because of this I gave it a two star.

Robyn C.

Yelp
We went on a holiday (husband, father in law, myself and my baby), and it was beyond fantastic!! They had a private event so most of the restaurant was blocked off, but our food came out so fast we would have never guessed! Our server, Camille, was so thoughtful and kind- she even went out of her way to find my son's water bottle after I left it there. I also had left my stroller parked in there, the staff made me feel at ease about dining with a baby. The bruschetta was SO GOOD! My baby ate the tomatoes and he isn't a big fan usually! We all loved the salads, and especially the lasagna. It was the last night of our vacation and we all felt we saved the best for last.

Paula B.

Yelp
Went to Fort Worth location. Pizza was amazing . I had the pasta trio or whatever it's called, it was fabulous appetizers are good too. They get busy on weekends
google avatar

Alexandra G.

Yelp
Service and food was delicious. I ordered the chicken parmigiana and toasted raviolis. Definitely check this place out.
google avatar

Denise B.

Yelp
Food was outstanding. Portions are huge so we split appetizers. Their shrimp scampi appetizer is the best, but Love the crab claws as well! Our friends both had pasta dishes and took Home lots of leftovers. I highly recommend this restaurant!
google avatar

Kaye G.

Yelp
At first glance this looks like your typical pizza joint, but it's anything but that. The portions are good, the flavors are great and the bartender is friendly and fun. There is a frozen drink in the mixer and it has everclear in it! Ask the bartender because they make it in a 5 gallon bucket then put it in the mixer. That one will sneak up on you so watch out! Lol you can't go wrong with a pizza or the chicken parmigiana!! I like small crumble beef on my pizza but the hamburger and sausage are both bigger crumbles so that's the only drawback, other than the terrible parking. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are going to be near downtown Dallas!

Yelp
I don't like to write negative reviews, but we went to Campisi's on a few coworker's recommendations when we were looking for some classic Italian food. The experience was difficult at best. To begin, the service was ok. Server was attentive but we apparently were not too high on the list even though the place was empty. We ordered drinks and reviewed the menu. We were in the mood for classic Italian and ordered some calamari and angel hair pasta with (we thought) white sauce. The calamari was soggy and the pasta came out w red sauce. They tried to fix the issue with a new plate of pasta, but it just did not work out for us. Sorry, do not think I would return.

Yelp
Great place to have a drink Service was extremely great even during their busy rush time Will be back to try their food

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch and this was some of the best Italian food I've had in a long time. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was clean and showed a lot of history. The amount of food you get for the price is amazing. I highly recommend stopping in and trying the sample platter.

Yelp
Great food and service. Beautiful atmosphere. Rey nice evening in Dallas. We will be back.
