Camps Bay Retreat | Best places to stay in Cape Town

"Hidden away in a large forested nature reserve with its very own secret waterfall, this intimate boutique property offers easy access to the glamorous Camps Bay strip as well as a welcome retreat from the crowds. Rooms are split between the historic manor house, dating to the 1920s, nature suites with wood-fired hot tubs, newly built wings and a villa. Expect contemporary décor and private terraces that make the most of garden and ocean views. Camps Bay Retreat features three swimming pools, an on-site spa, a tranquillity walk, a mountain pool and a private pathway leading to the nearby beaches. The excellent restaurant, Bella’s, dishes offers up a variety of dishes with local, organic and quality ingredients, and the whole package is nothing short of a hidden gem. " - Richard Holmes

We had a wonderful stay here. Family of 5 in one of the apartments. The location is so beautiful and well placed to wander into Camps Bay and jump on bus to Cape Town. Staff are so lovely, food was superb with lots of gluten free options, rooms are clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the Padel courts and a dip in the cold pool even in Winter! Highly recommend.

What an experience! It was on the back end of our Africa trip before heading back to California. The photos online did not even do it justice. Andrew was wonderful, he assisted us for both the 2 days of our stay with a giant smile and a warm welcoming demeanor. That garden, the forest pods and the hanging bridge was just so so special, so magical. Hoping to come back in the summer in the near future.

We had probably the worst possible customer service experience with this hotel. There are many good things — stunning views, great location, delicious food, and cool interior design, but it doesn't cover for the feeling that is left after that situation... Everything that went terribly wrong was due to the service staff, their incompetence and communication style. We booked two rooms for three adults via booking.com and received confirmation that everything was fine. Upon arrival, it turned out that a mistake had occurred — only one room was available. In other words, they failed to notice that one guest had booked two rooms, and in the meantime, they had rented out the second room to someone else. When the situation arose, they simply said there was nothing they could do and, frankly, told us to "go to hell." I then requested to cancel everything and have both rooms refunded. They told me I had to cancel myself, but there was no such option in my profile — the only option was to cancel and lose the entire payment for both rooms. We spent three hours trying to resolve the situation with Booking.com customer support. No one from the Camps Bay Retreat team apologized or tried to help solve the issue. We felt completely unappreciated and treated as if we were just causing them trouble. There was absolutely no leadership or problem-solving skills shown — a complete disaster.

From the moment you walk into this historic home you are transported into another world. An old-world charm with all the modern-day amenities you can be offered. The staff are friendly and very helpful in all aspects of your stay. The spa is on another level with its beautiful mountain spa tents which is an experience you will cherish for the rest of your life. ||Camps Bay Retreat truly is a gem and worth a visit.

This was an amazing experience. The hotel is in essence an older and opulent residence. We stayed in the "eco-pods" which in essence are compact but comfortable shipping containers plopped in the middle of a forest. That sounds weird I guess but they are very cute and it was nice to be surrounded by a forest of sorts. Very close to the coast so easy to go for runs and walk to places to eat. The pods might not be for everyone if you are a light sleeper but we really enjoyed being surrounded by nature and being a bit off to ourselves but it was a bit loud during a storm which is just the nature of the eco-pod. Great service and excellent breakfasts too!

Dropped by for tea/scones one afternoon after spending lunch on Camps Bat beach. Managed to get seated on the lawn, overlooking the ocean from high up. What a view! Tea and scones were excellent, as was the wine. Tranquil and classy beyond words, this is a super little hide out in Camps Bay with lovely facilities and evidently cosy rooms and surrounds which include a rope bridge and panel court. Julie Le Bron, who hosted us for tea, is a diamond.

Hands-Down this place is MIND-BLOWING. It's a hidden gem and many capetonians also don't know of this place. It's boutique. It's hearty. It's cozy. The service by Bradley and Moniep at the Front-Desk and Andrew with the Bags was spot-on and courteous. Couldn't have asked for more. I booked the Hot Jacuzzi room - Mahn, I was in for a treat. The room was spacious and had everything. The bridge to the room doesn't have lights at night. Elderly couples need to be aware and request for rooms in the main building OR not move to the reception at night. Else, highly recommended for a retreat kinda getawat. Keep it up lads! Rahul

Camps Bay Retreat is nestled in one of the most breathtaking locations near Cape Town. With sweeping views of Lion’s Head and the Twelve Apostles on one side, and the ocean waves rolling in on the other, the setting is truly spectacular. The property itself is expansive, featuring natural vegetation and scenic trails perfect for peaceful morning hikes.||||The staff are exceptionally friendly and well-trained, creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere that made us feel right at home.||||The spa is a tranquil haven, offering private spaces where you can unwind to the soothing sounds of nature - rustling trees, birdsong, and the gentle flow of a nearby stream - whether you're enjoying a massage or relaxing in the hot tub.||||Breakfast was outstanding, with the Eggs Benedict being a particular standout - perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious.
