Camps Bay Retreat | Best places to stay in Cape Town

"Hidden away in a large forested nature reserve with its very own secret waterfall, this intimate boutique property offers easy access to the glamorous Camps Bay strip as well as a welcome retreat from the crowds. Rooms are split between the historic manor house, dating to the 1920s, nature suites with wood-fired hot tubs, newly built wings and a villa. Expect contemporary décor and private terraces that make the most of garden and ocean views. Camps Bay Retreat features three swimming pools, an on-site spa, a tranquillity walk, a mountain pool and a private pathway leading to the nearby beaches. The excellent restaurant, Bella’s, dishes offers up a variety of dishes with local, organic and quality ingredients, and the whole package is nothing short of a hidden gem. " - Richard Holmes

We weren’t staying at the hotel as guests but on our last day decided to book a half leisure day there, which included a 60 min massage, lunch, forest bathing in a wood fired hot tub with a fruit platter and then relaxed by their mountain pool. For what we paid - we thought it was great value, as you’d pay this price for just a single massage in London. We were really impressed and our massage was great and staff went above and beyond to help us celebrate our last day of our honeymoon!

This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in, and is 100% the best hotel breakfast I've ever had. Every single member of staff was lovely - particularly I want to thank Avory, Memory, Siphelele, Casper, Benson and Andrew (but there were more I just didn't catch their names, I'm sorry!). Our amazing room had a little wooden balcony with a hot tub, the view one way was of the mountain, and the other was the ocean. The hotel grounds are incredible and so looked after, there was always someone working on the vegetable patches or in the gardens, all the natural pools and walk ways are so unique and special, you really could spend a day just exploring the hotel itself. The Terrace facing the sea & sunset is the perfect place for an evening, and we even had a lovely massage at the spa. I'll be recommending this place to everyone visiting Cape Town, and I can't thank all the staff enough for making our trip so lovely.

This was our first trip to Cape Town and our stay at Camps Bay Retreat made it more memorable. We didn't know what to expect and as we arrived after dark, it wasn't until the morning and we ventured out, we realised what a beautiful setting the hotel is in. The mountain range, 'Lions Head' is a spectacular back drop to the manicured, lush gardens and the uniqueness of a swing bridge, used to access our room was a fun added extra. All the staff deserve praise for their friendly welcome and attentive service. Nothing was too much trouble. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and ate dinner in the hotel too. The food was excellent, with a great breakfast menu. The room was large with a free standing bath and small kitchenette and the beds were extremely comfortable. Camps Bay is a fifteen to twenty minute walk from the hotel and the easiest way to get into Cape Town or visit Table Mountain, is by buying a day pass for the sightseeing tour bus. Pick up is in Camps Bay. If you are looking for somewhere away from the Cape Town hustle and bustle which is welcoming and comfortable, then look no further than Camps Bay Retreat hotel.

A true paradise on earth. Camps Bay Retreat is more than a hotel – it is an experience. The location is breathtaking, hidden in a peaceful private nature reserve with spectacular ocean views and a magical garden full of secret paths, waterfalls and quiet places to breathe.||The service is warm, personal and professional. Every member of the team was attentive and genuinely kind without ever being intrusive. The atmosphere is calm and refined , a perfect place for recovery, reflection or simply enjoying beauty in peace.||The meals were outstanding: fresh ingredients, beautifully prepared dishes and a cosy restaurant setting with views that make you slow down and enjoy every moment.||I wish I could have stayed longer. A rare place that touches both heart and senses.||Highly recommended.

Not value for money. Expensive for what it was. Did not appreciate the dog being allowed to sit around while we were eating. Also when sitting in the library in the evening the dog came in and urinated on the carpet. When a member of staff was informed all they did was sparky the carpet. Did not mop it up and did not apologise. Seemed like it was a common occurrence. Breakfast not up to normal standard for what you would expect from somewhere this expensive. Hot food was cold. Croissants uncooked.Andrew excellent. Bar staff and waiters at breakfast less than helfpful. Coffees always.cold. Took a long time to get them. 25 minutes

Avoid. Beautiful setting (one of the most beautiful you’ll ever see). But the hotel lacks any sort of execution. We were witness to a total systems failure at the hotel when dinner had to be abandoned. Breakfast was an absolute shambles. Rooms badly in need of a refurb. Some lovely individual staff but they lack leadership and systems to help them succeed.

I visited the Mint Wellness Spa today to celebrate our anniversary, and from the moment we arrived the experience was phenomenal. The staff were so welcoming and friendly – even the gentleman sweeping outside greeted us with a smile, which set such a positive tone. We booked the Forest Spa Pods, and it was truly something special. The massage was the absolute best I’ve ever had – far beyond the usual spa experience. Instead of just being in a room with background music, the natural sounds of the forest surrounded us, making it deeply relaxing and unique. Afterwards, we enjoyed the hot tub with fresh fruit and champagne/water, which was such a thoughtful touch and made the experience even more memorable. A huge thank you to the ladies who did our massages – not only were your skills fantastic, but your warm smiles and excellent service made us feel completely at ease. We will definitely be back!

we stayed wit 6 adults in Villa 16 with a marvellous view of Lions Head and 12 Apostels - the room was very nice and comfortable for us six. The hotel facilities and the gardens are really amazing including the suspension bridge to reach your villa. ||Breakfast and dinner was excellent as well , the service very smart and professional, pick up service by Van works seamless . A real good choice - we will be back quite soon. Many thanks for this perfect stay||Klaus
