My partner and I had an AMAZING meal here. We were in Dallas for the weekend to attend a wedding and we were looking for margaritas near our hotel. We had a few hours to kill before the dinner reception and we found Campuzano. It did not disappoint!
We kept wishing that we had more time time in Dallas. When we scanned the menu we also wanted brunch, dinner, appetizers, everything. But we only had about 1.5 hours before we needed to freshen up before dinner (and also needed to save room to eat)...
... so here is what we had:
+Chips & Salsa Trio - on the house
+Large Mango Margarita (frozen) - his
+Uber Black Margarita (frozen) - mine
+Fish Tacos, comes with 3 - to share
The drinks were strong and delicious. The portions were so generous that we couldn't completely finish our drinks nor avoid the brain freeze that comes with chugging margaritas. Next time I would order a spicy or plain margarita on the rocks, because I like to taste the simple flavors of a good marg, but their "Uber Black Margarita" was so unique, I had to order it. It was a frozen margarita with a sangria swirl topped with Grand Marnier. The personality of this drink is Dua Lipa. Pure party vibes.
The fish tacos were fresh. The fish was fried (but not battered) and this was the first time I had fish tacos this way. The ones I've had back home always came with battered/fried, so I'm glad I got to try a classic served in a new way. The fish was "naked" and did not need to be covered up by batter. The freshness shined.
By the way, Campuzano serves chips & salsa on the house. I loved the salsa trio. My favorite was a dark red one with smoked chilis. The chips & waters arrived very quickly after we sat down and our server was swift and attentive. It was a Saturday and this place was starting to fill. I was impressed. All the staff worked as if they were ready for a stampeding dinner rush at any minute (probably accurate).
Sitting a across from us, a large party of six was celebrating a graduation, the graduate at the head of the table dressed in all her regalia. In a blink of an eye, it seemed like the party disappeared, the tables disassembled, surfaces wiped clean, settings ready for the next. The restaurant ran seamlessly among organized chaos: folks walking in/out, servers making trips back & forth from the bar carrying colorful boozy drinks, and sizzling hot plates of fajita coming from the kitchen.
Whether it's pre-dinner, dinner, brunch, or really any time of day, Campuzano's got you covered. The next time we're back in the downtown Dallas area, we will be back!
