Inside the hotels of the Balearic Islands

"Even a hotel in the old city center of Mahón, Menorca’s capital, offers more rest and relaxation than stimulating urbanity — a situation that suits Can Alberti 1740 just fine." - Guide MICHELIN

An absolutely gorgeous hotel! We stayed here for 2 nights and we loved it. The hotel is beautiful and the staff especially Mar the host who greeted us were really friendly, helpful and kind. Our room was really spacious and comfortable and had everything we needed during our stay. We had room 16 which is not suitable for people with mobility issues or tall people, but it suited us just fine. The hotel is beautiful inside, welcoming and wonderfully decorated with fabulous period features. We loved the terraces and the lounge and the honesty bar was a nice thing to have. There was a tasty continental breakfast selection as well as a cooked option. We would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here again.

We are currently staying at Can Alberti and after only 24 hours here we know we will return in years to come. This is a charming “boutique” hotel where much care and thought has been put into the experience of those who stay here. Our room is spotlessly clean with its own private roof terrace and lovely eco-friendly products to enjoy. The breakfast on the terrace downstairs is beautifully presented with many different choices including a cooked option. On arrival we were given access to a personalised in-house interactive map with recommendations for restaurants, churches, museums and boat trips. What is most striking, however, is the calibre of staff who work here. There is an atmosphere of genuine enthusiasm, cheerfulness and pride in their work. Nothing is too much trouble, it seems. This is a delightful, calm and happy place to stay and I cannot recommend it more highly.

There were elements of this hotel that we were pleased with. It was good to be in the centre for the Fiesta weekend and the staff were pleasant, particularly the lovely girl who prepared and served breakfast. Having access to the coffee machine was also a plus.|However the serious downside was our room, the deluxe double with patio. It felt like a dull basement with little brightness getting in as the patio doors led to a tiny enclosed area. There was a mugginess which got worse after a very heavy downpour during our four days and that night we tossed and turned. In the morning we asked if we asked if we could have clean sheets but were told NO, only for stays of five days or more and were given two clean pillow slips to change ourselves. |There were no bedside tables and the lamp switches were inaccessible from the bed.|The kettle was in the dark wardrobe (no where else for it to go!) very awkward. |We discovered there was a light switch in the corridor outside our room so after a couple of days we were able to make it safer to access our room which had two st|eps as you entered and was dangerous in the dark. This light should either be on permanently or automatic with sensor. |This was a special occasion (anniversary & birthday) which is why we chose this expensive hotel and felt disappointed. I reminded them of the occasion again and we were allowed to help ourselves to a drink from the honesty bar. Not quite the same as being greeted with a bottle of cava in the room we have experienced elsewhere.

We came to celebrate a milestone birthday and our time at Can Alberti made everything extra special.| We arrived early but were treated to a lovely breakfast. The chief, Lea, created a delicious omelet and had all sorts of goodies out there n the buffet table. She also bakes cookies and brownies available all day as snacks. Scrumptious. ||A nice welcome surprise in our beautiful room! ||The hotel is spotless and filled with interesting art. Living room is a great spot to relax after a full day of sightseeing. ||Staff is charming, can’t wait to return.

Can Alberti is a beautiful, characterful boutique hotel set in a tastefully restored historic residence. It’s located in a quiet street of the old town but is only a very short walk from all the restaurants, sites and shops of the old town and port areas. Our room was a very comfortable base for our exploration of Menorca, with a small private roof patio. The breakfast was beautifully laid out each morning and offered quite a wide range of options for such a small hotel. There was roasted coffee, tea and snacks available in the dining room throughout the day for when we had an attack of the munchies. But perhaps the best aspect of the hotel was the friendly, helpful and expert service provided by all the staff members. In Menorca booking restaurants in advance is essential and not always easy to do. The hotel staff gave us excellent advice on the best restaurants to sample the excellent Minorcan cuisine and made all the restaurant and taxi bookings for us. The hotel’s WhatsApp service allowed us to easily stay in touch with them while we were out and about and when I lost my watch in a taxi they went above and beyond to find it and return it to me. Excellent service from lovely people. We strongly recommend a stay at the Can Alberti.

As a solo traveler, I decided to stay in Mahon vs. one of the beach resorts for my first trip to Menorca. I'm so glad I did. The hotel is in a good location and it's easy to walk to everything you want to see. Many excellent restaurants and bars right on their doorstep. The staff are all very accommodating and welcoming. I especially want to mention Mar who put my mind at ease when my flight was delayed. Every place she recommended was good. They are also helpful in securing dinner reservations and taxis if needed. The rooms are very comfortable and have all the amenities you need. You are spoilt for choice at breakfast. I also enjoyed sitting on the roof terrace after exploring Mahon on my first day. It's very quiet and I always felt safe. What a wonderful long weekend in Menorca and I hope to return.
