7 Easy Barcelona Day Trips with Great Restaurants and Bars | Eater

"A farmhouse-style restaurant set in a green, rustic property on the edge of the city, serving traditional Catalan fare such as pa amb tomàquet, grilled lamb chops, and roasted vegetables; it offers a special calçot-season menu (January–March) that highlights smoky calçots with romesco sauce." - Melissa Leighty

I had the most exquisite dining experience at Can Cortada restaurant that I can't wait to share! The lovely terrace, illuminated by charming London-style street lamps and surrounded by lush greenery, set the stage for a truly magical evening. This spot is perfect for a romantic dinner for couples, creating a romantic and intimate atmosphere. Our waiter, George Brown, provided exceptional service, making sure we felt pampered and well taken care of throughout the meal. We kicked off our culinary journey with refreshing vermouths on the rocks, setting the perfect tone for what was to come. The Escalivada appetizer, featuring caramelized goat cheese on a bed of grilled peppers and toast, was an absolute delight. The flavors harmonized beautifully, making it a memorable start to our meal. My main course, the lamb slow-cooked in the oven for 12 hours with potatoes, onion, and tomato, was nothing short of extraordinary. The tender lamb practically melted off the fork, and the combination of flavors was simply divine. My dining companion opted for the beef tenderloin, also slow-cooked for 12 hours, served with truffled potato cream. This dish was a true standout, earning a well-deserved 5-star rating for its impeccable taste and presentation. We paired our meal with a good bottle of red wine, enhancing the flavors of our already delicious entrees. Can Cortada has earned a spot on my list of special places to take friends and family when they visit Barcelona. From the impeccable service to the outstanding cuisine, this restaurant truly exceeded all expectations and delivered a dining experience that will be cherished for a long time.

Everything was wonderful for our romantic dinner on the quiet arbored patio. Both meals which we ordered were perfectly prepared, and do not miss their Flan!

You must order the chocolate lava cake!! ❤️ it’s the bomb. Also, the beef cooked on the hot stone was good with caliu potatoes on the side. Would’ve wanted to try the entrecôte but it was out of stock.

We were here for a wedding party and the private room was lovely and the food/drinks were amazing. You certainly won’t leave hungry and they brought out swords for the bride and groom to cut their cake with.

It’s inside a castle with really good atmosphere. Food was not as good as I expected, not really worth the price.

What a special treat! Everything here looks beautiful in a rustic hacienda style. The food is beautiful for the eyes and the mouth. The wait staff were attentive and helpful. Our party of 3 shared all the starters and mains we ordered. (Lamb shoulder, veal, cod with ratatouille). The people at the next table had a tomahawk steak which they thinly sliced and grilled at the table. I would go back to try more.

Yelp
Can Cortada is a long metro ride to the northeastern edge of Barcelona next to the Collserola mountains. It is situated in an old regal Catalan farmhouse. The highlight of the meal are the calçots, but the other Catalan dishes are also knockouts. The service is top notch as everyone is extremely eager to please, and won't hesitate to help you. Calçots amb Romesco: The calçots are so popular that I don't think they are even on the menu. Hold up, what exactly are calçots anyway? Calçots are large green onions that are longer than your arm. They are in season from November to April, so your time your trip accordingly. They are grilled over a wood fire and then served on a clay rooftop tile. The hostess knew we didn't know what we were doing, so she had a waiter provide a demonstration. Put on your bib and gloves. First, you have to hold the calçot by the green top. Next, you take your other hand and pull the blackened outer layer downward. Vertically dip the calçot into the orange romesco sauce and then lower the calçot into your mouth and take a bite. Each order has about 20 calçots, so you will have time to practice through repetition. The core is juicy, soft, and creamy with a really mild subtle onion flavor. The romesco sauce is composed of tomatoes, red bell peppers, almonds, hazelnuts, and garlic. The sauce is so delicious with the calçots that you want to hoard it for the other dishes. If you do this correctly, there will be charcoal and romesco stains everywhere. Escalivada: Another Catalan favorite is escalivada, which are long slices of red bell peppers and eggplants with olive oil, garlic, and salt that are grilled in the embers of a wood fire. The vegetables are silky smooth and soft from slow cooking. There is also a small round of soft crumbly goat's milk cheese that has been brûléed on top for a nice sharp contrast of flavors. Butifarra de la Garriga: Catalan pork sausage is grilled and served with tender white beans, garlic, and parsley. It is a really simple dish, but it is extremely comforting and delicious. Canelones de Carne Tradicionales Gratinados: In a cast-iron pan, the crepes are filled with shredded pork and rolled up into a cannelloni shape covered with a bechamel sauce and topped with cheese before being heated. The sauce is rich, buttery, and cheesy. Catalan cuisine is now one of all-time favorite cuisines and Can Cortada may be one of the best places to sample it.

Yelp
Let's just say, my waiter wasn't the best of the evening help. Everyone else in the restaurant had a great meal--mine was unsatisfactory. I won't go back.

Yelp
The food was excellent, we visited with a local chef who highly recommended this restaurant. We had a selection of dishes that we all tasted, the food was delicious and gave us a taste of authentic Catalan food. The staff was very friendly. Very nice building and ambiance.

Yelp
Christian was most helpful! He gave us a tour of the entire restaurant and made us feel like family. The staff was excellent and served our food with quickness and perfect accuracy. The food was amazing, they suggested the veal, as it is their specialty, and I highly suggest ordering it! Very welcoming to English speakers and will help you guide your way through the menu. By far the best dining experience I've ever had, thank you Can Cortada for making my 21st birthday the most memorable day of my life!

Yelp
If you ever travel to Spain you must visit Can Cortda. This is an old farm converted into an incredible restaurant. The atmosphere alone is worth the trip. The specialty of the house is a fillet mignon cooked at the table on top of salt. The house wine is excellent and the service can't say enough.

Yelp
Nice place. Great ambiance. Food was good. Not to heavy. Pretty intense tapas. Good for big parties, etc.

Yelp
The building and atmosphere are great. We held a small work banquet here and had a great time. The happy hour(s) in the courtyard were very relaxing with a great view. The drinks were free flowing and the appetizers very good. The actual meal I have to admit was just so-so. I have had better in Barcelona.

Yelp
One of our most memorable experiences ever! Loved every bit of it. A true Spanish experience and display of how simple yet fresh foods can still bring great taste to the cuisine. This restaurant is housed in a building dating back to the 13th century and its age and atmosphere completely add to the whole immersion of a truly Spanish dinner. While the wait staff were a little shaky in their English, they were very patient and attentive to us. (There was also an English menu describing the food.) Instead of the typical bread basket that most restaurants trot out, we were given toasted baguette slices with garlic and tomato. The kind server showed us how to sprinkle some olive oil and then rub the garlic and tomato on the bread to bring about a truly wonderful first course. Next we had frog legs for the first time ever and loved it. Would love to have again some time. Then for our main meal we ordered a large paella pan and a chicken dish. The chicken dish was ok. Paella is one of our favorite Spanish dishes and the restaurant's offering encouraged us to get our own pan to cook at home. For dessert, we got a deceptively simple tray of mixed nuts and dried fruits served with a sweet wine. We cannot think of anything that detracted from our time at this restaurant and heartily recommend this restaurant to anyone who will be in Barcelona.
