Can Fisher - Review - El Poblenou - Barcelona - The Infatuation

"With a buzzing patio overlooking busy Bogatell Beach, this spot could easily be mistaken for a tourist trap. But, in reality, it’s the total opposite. Everyone comes here for the daily selection of grilled fresh fish and raw seafood, like oysters and red shrimp tartare, not to mention excellent seafood paella. There’s señorito rice with everything pre-peeled for those of us who don’t like getting shrimp shells stuck between our teeth, or carnivorous options like rice with free-range chicken, grilled skirt steak, and chimichurri. They're all cooked with a crunchy socarrat base. The service is impeccable, and they’ll bring you wet wipes to clean your hands after you’ve finished your feast of anywhere from seven to 70 fishes. photo credit: Sara Larsson photo credit: Sara Larsson" - Isabelle Kliger

The 35 Best Restaurants in Barcelona

"Tourists are par for the course in any beachfront paella joint like this one overlooking Bogatell Beach, but what sets Can Fisher apart is the high ratio of locals—giving it the Barcelona stamp of credibility. Fishy treats come in all shapes and sizes, from the delectable red shrimp carpaccio, to freshly shucked oysters, anchovies dripping in olive oil, steamed mussels, and the salt-baked fresh turbot. But, again, the real highlight here is the wide range of paellas. From the finger-licking soupy rice with lobster, to the pre-peeled young gentleman’s rice, or Arroz del Señorito—especially designed for the young gentleman who prefers not to get his dainty hands dirty—to the black squid-ink rice with baby squid, Padrón peppers, and alioli, the selection is so good it’s almost impossible to choose just one." - Isabelle Kliger, Gemma Askham

Google
Small full chicken which was delicious, sea bass for 2 with chips and fried veg was also delicious. Profiteroles with cream (not like Irish cream though) was nice and cheesecake with cherry was delicious. Nice experience.

Google
Amazing location overlooking the beach. They offer a wide range of fresh fish and seafood. We opted for the black rice paella, which was delicious. The burrata salad was very nice with the fruity twist.

Google
Wonderful staff right above the beach. Great everything. Landed here by accident and had a wonderful time. Met a young couple from UK. A wedding dress business owner and her husband a civil engineer. Super nice staff. Really great for both food and hospitality. We plan on going back and visiting again with Eduardo our host, Radim and Alati. I seriously mean the whole experience is one of the best I've ever had for a casual spot and reasonable prices.

Google
Place is right next to the beach and it has got a nice view while you can enjoy your meal and watch the sea. The foods were so good and very tasty, cooked well also. The deserts were average, personally I didn’t see anything special about them, but it is the opposite for the seafoods. If you’re into seafoods, I would recommend you this place

Google
Definitely come here if you want to try paella, the fish is fresh — amazing quality! Everything was delicious, the 4 star is only because of the difficulty to communicate in english at times, but we got what we wanted anyway.

Google
We were at the beach and decided to have lunch at Can Fisher, what a great idea!! Food was outstanding like a top notch restaurant. We asked about the grilled fish, and they brought us a platter with all catches of the day available at the moment. It’s just so fresh. We ordered a grilled sea bass that came with grilled vegetables that were sooo tasty. The fish was grilled to perfection and delicious. The green salad was so fresh, that it felt like they had just harvested it. The mussels a la marinera were so delicious that we had to order a second portion because the kids ate it all. Ordered a Hugo spritz and it was so refreshing and huge. The view is obviously the cherry on the top. Highly recommend it. I might come back a second time before I leave.

The place has sea view. Its design is so nice and they always have nice music. The paella was so great. The drinks and the dessert, not so much though.

Google
Great place to eat in Barcelona. The staff are friendly and welcoming, great with kids and service is very good. Diego our waiter was brilliant, he also realised it was my birthday and made sure I had a candle on our dessert and sung me happy birthday! The oysters are some of the best we have ever eaten. Also recommend the fish and black rice. Rose wine is very good too. We will definitely be back, thanks Diego!

Yelp
We came here to celebrate my birthday and I read that this place is know for paella. Location is great! Just right off the beach. It Spain wasn't going through a heatwave it would've been amazing weather. They are meant to tell you about the fresh catch of the day but sadly we didn't get to hear about it. Also the paella is served with a wooden spoon. It's supposed to taste better with it. 3/5 Tuna - was just ok. 3/5 Paella - it was quite salty. We were told the dish with everything unpeeled and de shelled was the best but I prefer it all on 2/5 Oysters with caviar - very fishy and did not taste good 3/5 Bread and olives - maybe the best thing that we ordered but it was just bread lol Would I come back or recommend the place? Probably not.

Yelp
Veery overpriced and expensive experience that felt like a tourist trap. We paid almost 200€ for a lobster paella that from its portion was only enough to feed two people. The taste was average, I had better ones in Barcelona and I wouldn't order it again not even for 40€. The mushroom and cheese croquette were good. The red shrimp croquettes was not. The cheese cake at the end was alright. Wouldn't recommend.

Yelp
Barcelona, beach and seafood! You can't go wrong with this tasty option... pitchers of sangria and fresh cocktails, accompanied by fresh cuisines from the sea make this a definite destination eating stop. Staff is very friendly however it helps to speak a little Spanish. Open restaurant with great beach front views allows the breeze to make a perfect day! Casual, beach attire, family friendly environment. Love it here!

Yelp
Make sure to grab a reservation because it's difficult to get in. It's a super busy restaurant but has a nice ocean breeze. The service is a bit slow but the meat paella is super yummy!!! The black squid ink is a bit on the sweeter side and don't give as much seafood compared to other places. The calamari is great especially with the sauce.

Yelp
Nice spot if you're looking for a restaurant by the beach that can seat large parties both in and outdoors. Has good beach vibes suitable for both casual and business casual dining. Food is okay, as you'll find better around. Service is sub-par. With a packed restaurant maybe the staff was overwhelmed, but to forget an order, check on the status 35 minutes later, then come back another 30 minutes later to say items have ran out is far from great.

Yelp
We stayed in Barcelona at the Hotel Arts and wanted a place close to the hotel for our first night in Barcelona after a long international flight in. Our hotel concierge recommended Can Fisher and I'm glad they did! The hotel concierge made reservations for us about a month or so in advance and we arrived about 5-10 minutes prior to our dinner reservation and were seated promptly and were greeted warmly by the host. Our server came by a few minutes later after we were seated and offered to answer any questions we had on the menu. He was very nice, and we had several other servers wait on us as well that were also all very nice. We ordered the liter of red sangria to start for 23 euros, and it was very good! For an appetizer, we started with the Catalan bread for 3 euros, along with the Iberian ham for 19 euros. We also ordered a few croquettes for a few euros each. All of the starters were absolutely amazing! For our entree, we ordered the Chicken Paella for 23 euros a person. The paella was a large portion served in a skillet and was plenty big for two people to share. The paella was absolutely the best paella I have ever tasted and was extremely flavorful! Can Fisher was a great place to start our Barcelona trip and I'm so glad we tried the restaurant!

Yelp
The ambiance is relaxed and inviting, with nice beach views. The service at Can Fisher is fantastic. We started with a beer and some sangria and delicious bread with aioli. The bread was warm and crusty, and the aioli was creamy and rich with a perfect balance of garlic. It was the perfect way to start our lunch. For the main course we ordered the whole fish (sea bass) grilled and served with grilled vegetables and bakes potatoes. The flavor of the fish was delicious, meaty and flakey, served with lemon, salt & olive oil. For dessert we did the Belgian chocolate ice cream with burbon vanilla- yum!! If you're looking for the perfect laid back lunch with a beach view, make sure to check out Can Fisher.

Yelp
My least favorite meal in Spain. I was dining solo and did not feel the staff paid me any attention. They dropped off menus and did not come back for 15 mins or so and asked me what I wanted. I didnt know there was paella and specials of the night until I oberheard a waiter telling another table. Service was extremely slow. I had the rice with prawns and mussels....it was OK, nothing to rave about and wish there was more seafood,. The shrimp were very small once you removed the head and shell. The only good part was the view beautiful from the outside table but I had to move in because it got too cold.

Yelp
This seaside restaurant has a great location. Overlooking the beach. Food is really good. The paella was amazing. All of the staff were terrific. Fast and friendly. Prices were very high.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice ambiance along the strand, overlooking the water. Ordered the black arrow paella (recommended by waiter) with seafood. Seafood tasted fresh, but clams were small and over grilled in my opinion, shrimp could use a bit more seasoning, squid was yum. Rice was good but a little too salty. Overall, not bad. Tomato on bread a bit bland for me, bread a little too crunchy for me. Paired it with white vino per recommendation and it was nice. Would I go here again, maybe not. Friendly service, food may take a while.

John P.

Yelp
Can Fisher? More like Can Shitter. Place was overpriced with horrible service. More importantly, the food was an atrocity. Burger was raw and the paella portion was laughable. Felt sick as soon as I took my first bite. If you're looking for a restaurant in Barcelona by the beach, please do not consider this establishment.
google avatar

Yelp
Meh and expensive, super touristy price and really mid for the delivery. The soft eggs with sea urchin was memorable, the rest on par or a bit lower than the city center real deal spots. This was the only restaurant that asked for service fee on top of bill. There's no need for tips in most places in Spain. Best dinner we had was at Alapar almost 20 dishes tasting menu and 80 euros per person and didn't ask or take a tip. That place deserves the highest rating for service, food, atmosphere, oh yea the previous restaurant by the same owners had a Michelin star duh.
google avatar

Yara F.

Yelp
Before our trip to Barcelona, I did some research on beachfront restaurants that were not to touristy, and I had good food and Can Fisher came up on the list so we decided to give it a try. Location is really great, and is probably the best thing about this spot. Service was not great especially considering that it is a large tourist crowd, it took us a while to flag someone down to get drinks, etc.. food overall was good, but not the best paella I had while in Spain, and the prices are definitely inflated because of the beach side location. I would say that if you are looking for a beach side spot like we were, this is probably one of your better options but if you just want paella or seafood in general they are probably better options.

Isabella R.

Yelp
A great spot on the beach for lunch! The view was wonderful and the food was delicious.
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
Overpriced. Rushed. A few prawns on top of rice isn't paella. We've had the best paella in Valencia and had hoped to get something comparable here - what a let down. Unsure why Hotel Arts recommends so highly. Something fishy going on there... pun intended. I'm sure ambiance is better during the day. At night with the plastic drapes down it's just an underwhelming experience.
google avatar

Tiffany M.

Yelp
Not bad, not great. My world-traveling foodie family thought the food here was all just fine, and more specifically enjoyed our oceanfront stroll to the restaurant and its beach view location. I'd come back if I found myself in the area without any other options, but this doesn't exactly make my list of recommendations on "where to go" when it Barcelona. I'm told Escribà, a couple doors down is better.

Yelp
Food is great ! Cocktails are fantastic!! Ambience is on the beach so what else could be better. Adrian was our server and he was 100% superb. So patient. So professional. His assistants also served with a warm smile and great attitude. I ordered the hamburger believer it or not and even though my company ordered seafood I was 100% satisfied with the huge beef patty and warm steak fries. Loved it!! Will I close some videos that mark the whole adventure here at this very quaint and fantastic restaurant on the beach.

Yelp
WHY?!? JUST WHY?! Do not have a clue why people recommend this place. We made reservations in advance for our anniversary. Was on time. Waited 15 min for a server. Another 15 for a drink. Ordered oysters, thry were decent (6 for 26 euro), paella, the special for 100 Euro... an hour and a half later have yet to be served. Had to find manager just now. He apoligized, said it will be another 6 minutes. Fifteen minutes later got the food with no utilsils. Decent food but hands down worst service at any place in Europe we have traveled EVER! For over 250 euro, I am absolutely shocked. Thank you for ruining our 2nd night in Spain! I usually do not post but this was so bad that I felt needed.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome dinner experience at Can Fisher! Eating - "en la platja" and with such great fresh seafood and superb service!

Brandon W.

Yelp
Tourist trap!!! When we showed for a paella dinner, the waiter said to flag him down when we are ready for drinks, then was no where to be found. They bring you a tray of seafood and give you the recommended choice for seafood. The recommendation was 150 euros for a shared plate. We narrowed down the seafood to shrimp and clams, and it still was 101 euros. The rice alone was 29 euros. The paella was very salty. Although they serve it on a large skillet, the paella is a single layer and most stuck to the pan. The sangria was decent.
google avatar

Cindy C.

Yelp
Service was slow, overworked staff. Restaurant smelled very fishy and our rice dish had very over cooked and under seasoned meat.

Jason E.

Yelp
We stopped by Can Fisher and had the evening special Paella that included shrimp, claims, and 3 whole lobsters. Great good and view!
google avatar

Eric S.

Yelp
Mediocre, overpriced paella. Shrimps were as tiny as you can find, the cuddle fish was rubbery and the rice was lacking in flavor. This is a tourist trap. Don't bother.
google avatar

Roger H.

Yelp
I stopped into this to sea front restaurant situation along a busy walkway along the beach on a Sunday. I was lucky to get a table for one right up front. I had a great view not only of the sea but of the goings on in the restaurant. I asked my server to make suggestions on wine and food and she made excellent choices. She spoke to the 'fisherman' and selected some small shrimp, larger shrimp, clams and sardines. All were deliciously prepared. Also, the olives that were served were amazing. The servers seems very busy and a bit frantic. My server did apologize for not being able to be as attentive to me, but I understood and saw that the restaurant was super busy and there were some demanding larger parties. The assistant servers/bus people were also very friendly even though they were clearly stressed. I enoyed this restaurant very much. The food was super fresh and delicious and it was a great spot for people watching.
google avatar

Nataly K.

Yelp
Very nice restaurant on the beach. The view is amazing! Food is great, fresh and tasty. A lot of tapas, seafood and fish. We had tapas variation, black rice, some seafood and salad. Everything was good. Portions are normal. Atmosphere is quite romantic
google avatar

Keith B.

Yelp
A group of us that traveled from the States needed a place for dinner the night of arrival. We walked towards the beach from our hotel and Can Fisher was one of the first restaurants we hit. My wife and I split the paella. It was a black rice variety. The taste was good but definitely different. Two of the folks we were with ordered the salmon and said it was just ok, possible under cooked. We did get a nice table outside to fit the 7 of us. Definitely 3.5 stars, just didn't meet my 4 start recommendation.
google avatar

Brooke D.

Yelp
The restaurant is lovely, the decor, the ambience, the view....all great. The downside was that we had an 8 p.m. reservation on a Friday and they had literally run out of almost every dinner plate option worth trying (fish...gone, sardines..all out, etc.) and they didn't even have the products to make one of their speciality drinks. Come on.....we can do better than that! This made the experience less than expected and it would be difficult for me to go back, given there are so many similar restaurants in the area. Bummer....but maybe you will have a better experience. (here is wishing and hoping for you!)
google avatar

Richard H.

Yelp
First dinner in Barcelona and was not disappointed. Had the seafood paella, which is like a jambalaya where I am from. Very good! Shrimp and crawfish with rice, mushrooms and meat. Excellent service! Great wine!

Daniel G.

Yelp
Just an overpriced restaurant, fideuá with just few seafood. They offer fresh fish but expect to pay around 100 euros for one fish, unbelievable. We ordered ostras and were just ok. The view of the restaurant is great. Maybe just for drinks. Everything is overpriced.
google avatar

Brian P.

Yelp
We originally only intended to get drinks but the staff talked up into the lobster instead. The lobster cake with two sides. Fried potatoes and steamed veggies. We ordered a pitcher of Sangria while we waited. Once the lobster came out, I knew it was going to be amazing. It was fresh and well seasoned. It was very, very meaty. Well worth the price tag. It was the best meal I've ever eaten in my life. We also orders the lime and ginger cheesecake. It was just ok really but the lobster, sangria and service made up for the cheesecake.
google avatar

Julie M.

Yelp
The location and friendliness of the staff was top notch. We had lot of poor service (by American standards) while in Barcelona, but Can Fisher was not one of them. We arrived without a reservation and they found us seating quickly. While I agree with others that the paella was too salty, everything else was fabulous. An added bonus was that the area was not crowded with tourists. We return led to the area the next day to have fun on the beach.

Valerie W.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. I organized a company dinner for 30 people. The communication prior to the event was awesome and super responsive. The day of the event, we arrived a little early to see if we could add four more people to the large group. The onsite manager was very accommodating and made the adjustments with no hesitation. We also had a smaller group that were seated on the patio. The service for the large group was so well timed. They had multiple people staging the food so everyone got served at the same time. The food and service were great! We also had the white wine sangria and it was so refreshing and delicious. The view from the restaurant is unparalleled! The windows all open up so the restaurant is all open air. I have already recommended this place to others. So impressed with this restaurant and the planning

C W.

Yelp
Nice spot on the beach but outrageously overpriced. 40+ euros for a paella for 2 that was 95% rice and took 1 hour+ to make. Sangria pitcher was 22 euros. Crab cakes were the only thing that was worth it. Food was good but nothing memorable enough to warrant lunch costing 100+ euros (and this is speaking from a vacation mindset where we spend even more than usual). We just had dinner at a Michelin rated restaurant for less than this lunch :)
