The Best Gazpacho in Portland, Oregon - Eater Portland

"Perhaps no Portland restaurant has as curious an origin story. The Pearl’s Can Font was launched in 2017 by local realtor Vladimir Zaharchook and Barcelona chef Josep Vidal, head chef at a namesake restaurant in the hills overlooking the ciutat comtal. The Catalonian original is now closed, but its Portland-based sister lives on, serving a high-end hybrid Catalonian and Pacific Northwestern cuisine — including fried smelt, salmon paella, and a traditional tomato gazpacho topped with microgreens. Dine in the modern, Gaudi-adorned dining room or outside in limited sidewalk patio seating." - Nathan Williams

The environment was pleasant, the staffs were attentive and courteous throughout. However, the food didn’t quite meet our expectations, especially considering the price point. While presentation and portion sizes were fine, the flavors didn’t justify the premium we paid. Overall, it’s a decent place for its atmosphere and service, though we might not return solely for the food.

Google
The food was exceptional, and the service was excellent! My boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary, and the dessert was on the house. It was my first time eating brussels sprouts in this way (with the sauce). It was a brand new experience for me. The squid was grilled at the perfect texture, and the scallop was very juicy and fresh. The lambs? omg you gotta order it. But, i felt that the paella was a bit salty and the taste of the rice with squid ink was a bit too seafood for me. I really loveeee the dessert.

Google
The atmosphere and service at this Spanish spot in the lovejoy area tries to makeup for the mediocre food being served. Our paella a marisco was served with stale stinky salmon and $40 per person you would expect better. The ceviche was good though.

First time here. Great Spanish restaurant. Had beet salad, grilled octopus, and seafood paella. All these were nicely prepared and really tasty.

My husband and I went here for our anniversary we had the greatest time! We love discovering new fine dining restaurants on a daily basis. Let me break it down for you, Can Font it’s the real deal! They have the best food, beautiful, clean, nice restaurant and the best servers willing to go out and beyond for you! Keep doing what you guys are doing. You guys rock🫶

Google
I enjoyed most of the dishes we ordered, but unfortunately, the clams were very gritty, and the crab croquettes were very bland, and the crab did not taste very fresh at all. Besides that all the other dishes were amazing. Definitely get the octopus, I think that dish was my favorite. I really enjoyed the Brussel sprouts, patatas bravas, and the iberico ham croquettes. For the price and the two underwhelming dishes, and having to wait almost 35 minutes just for our drinks I don't think we will return.

Google
Paella Negra was a bit more cooked than i would have liked but the taste was pretty good. I would say I probably enjoyed some of the appetizers more. Service was quick and efficient, but our server could have been a bit more friendly. The croquetas de congrejo, ceviche, serrano ham and the steak bites were all perfect. I will come back but maybe try something besides the paella. Others enjoyed the lamb and the steak very much.

Google
It was a nice vegan Spanish restaurant experience. Service was outstanding. Our patatas bravas were a bit salty and the vegan paella could have had some additional vegan meats for added variety other than just the sausage. But, overall, we enjoyed our meal and the whole experience. I would recommend it.

Yelp
Ambiance is nice for a date night and service was good, however the tapas were just average and seemed more Spanish-inspired than actual Spanish dishes. None of them were bad, but the food just felt like it was lacking something. The prices are quite steep as well, expect to pay over $100 for two people. Sangria - kind of just tasted like wine. Not impressed Limogranada mocktail - pretty good, very tart and a bit smoky for a mocktail. Croquetas de jamon - felt like fried mashed potatoes. There was a slight essence of jamon, but more as an afterthought. Cangrejo & setas - standard crab cake. Mushrooms were oily and not crispy Coles de bruselas - slightly underdone in the middle and not as crispy as I wanted, I also wished there was a more acidic flavor like balsamic to balance the brussels out. Ceviche - I liked it, but it mostly tasted like guacamole / pico? I could see the seafood but it didn't feel like the star of the show. Crema Catalana - solid lemon creme brûlée with nicely crystallized thin sugar top. Probably the highlight of my meal

Yelp
I came here with my husband for a delayed Valentines Day date. We made a same-day reservation and were greeted promptly, and I greatly appreciated their coat rack. The host was welcoming and the service team was graciously willing to accommodate our request to sit at a different table. Now, about the food... we came for tapas and we were quite delighted by our options. We chose the seared octopus and scallop with capers and potatoes, the pan y tomate (Ken's bread), and the ceviche. All 3 options were delicious, and the octopus was one of the best dishes I've ever had. I am typically skeptical of octopus because, in the past, what I've tried was always very chewy and difficult to eat. Not so, at Can Font. This octopus was perfectly seared and the texture was amazing! I wanted 4 more plates! The bread with tomato surprised us in the best way with its seasoning and the ceviche was divine. One final note of appreciation- our ceviche was apparently late (we didn't notice because we were busy enjoying our other two dishes). The owner himself brought it over and explained that the chef was out due to having a baby - Congratulations! - and so they were doing their best to make up for his absence. Because of the delay, the owner comped our ceviche and chatted with us for a few minutes. He is very kind and professional. What an amazing experience, we will be back to try more options very soon.

Yelp
The food and drinks here were both fresh and well prepared. I especially enjoyed the vegan paella and vegan tiramisu. My only reason for giving 4 stars instead of 5 however was because of the poor service I received. The waitress seemed annoyed by both my boyfriend and I when we asked for recommendations. She also went out of her way to ignore us whenever we tried to get her attention. I really wanted to like my experience here more which made it a bit disappointing. I might try coming back again in the future to give this place another chance.

Yelp
Food and Service were excellent. We particularly liked their version of a caprese salad with burrata and heirloom tomatoes. Also the lamb chops and potatoes bravos were excellent

Yelp
Great food and ambience. Great for a date night or important adult celebration. Not good for kids. Gluten free options.

Yelp
We got there for our 6:10 reservation and we're sitting for a long time before our order was taken. It seemed like the waitresses and waiters were super busy and could benefit from another body. Even the drinks took awhile. We didn't actually get our food till about 8PM. We were in a larger group but didn't order the paella because we were trying to get out a bit sooner but our food came out with some members of our party's paella anyways. We got the lamb and salmon plates. The lamb was actually pretty good cooked to a nice rare and crusted and seasoned very nicely. The chimichurri sauce complemented it well. The veggies accompanying it was a bit bitter but just for my taste. The salmon was pretty dry overall. The decor and ambiance of the restaurant was pretty nice. The tapas were pretty good. We had the beet salad, potato's, and bombas. It's also fun to see the hustle of the kitchen and they were hustling for sure.

Yelp
Can Font is a great restaurant to come for a special occasion! We came for my sister's birthday and our reservation of 10 people were seated in a long table in the back. Our server was very friendly and patient with us. We started with a few mocktails to get the party started. Most of the mocktails were on the tart side rather than sweet. For starters, we got the Pimientos Shishito, Chipirones Fritos, Ensalada de Remolacha, Patatas Bravas, and the Bombas. My favorites were the Patatas Bravas, the sauce and aioli that came with the potatoes were delicious and complimented the dish well. The beet salad was also a great palette cleanser from all the fried and grilled starters. For the main, we got 4-person pans of Paella de Mariscos and Paella de King Salmon. Both were delicious, I love the saffron-seafood stock flavor that was soaked into the rice. The seafood and salmon was cooked perfectly too. We got full so quickly that we ended up taking some home. Definitely recommend for a fun night out to try new dishes and cuisine you don't regularly eat!

Yelp
I've been on the hunt for a good paella since Chef Chesa closed up his wonderful restaurants. Sadly, I'll have to keep looking. We came to Can Font for dinner, looking specifically to try the paellas. We got the paella negra and the paella mar & tierra, both $38 each. They're fairly small - you could eat one per person if you didn't have appetizers - that would be fine and all but they were so so salty. The flavors weren't that amazing - honestly probably the least good paella I've had in a long time The other food was pretty good, but again not worth the price tags... service was alright. Drinks were alright. It was unusually warm and humid in the restaurant which was annoying - and they only served tap water without ice. I get that rent is expensive in the Pearl but this isn't an amazing location with an amazing view or anything. Everything was just ok and for the price you can get an amazing dinner in many other places.

Yelp
We came for a yummy Mother's Day brunch. We started off with some drinks. The espresso martini was very strong in the alcohol and coffee area. My wife got the affogato. We concur this should be a brunch staple. Why wait till night time. We started with deviled eggs. I can really put down some deviled eggs but the crispy ham is really the show stopper here. Of course you gotta try the paella. Brunch paella. Lots of tasty meat but once again crispy ham delivers. I guess I didn't expect $32 per person. Little steep but I know it's a process. My wife loved the lox. Perfect combination. I passed on it. But there were lots of happy noises. Getting the cheese sandwich was just over the top. I appreciate the combo of cheeses. Made for a tasty but slightly greasy sandwich. The fruit was actually quite a showstopper. Can someone supreme my oranges for me all the time. And the honey and mint just made it next level. Really good service and atmosphere. Perfect for the occasion. But you know. Crispy ham is the star. I don't go to tapas brunch often enough to tell if the price is on par but it is definitely spendy. But we do love moms.

Yelp
With so many tapas places popping up around town, it's hard to know which one to turn to. This time around, Can Font showed us definitely they are one of the best. The host was so welcoming and accommodating when we arrived. The waitstaff were helpful and attentive even though we showed up for a late 8:45pm reso and the place was packed with diners enjoying the last of their earlier service. The food was as impeccable. We had several tapas to start, the seasonal butternut squash and kale salad with orange was a stand-out. For our shared entree, we chose the seafood stew - the saffron and almond base broth with the mixed shellfish and halibut was perfect on a cold rainy night. Since we had a lovely Rioja with our meal, we opted for the chocolate flourless cake. Couldn't have paired these two better if we had tried. Bottom line, this place is amazing. You definitely won't be disappointed.

Yelp
While in Portland on vacation, we ate at this restaurant, which was very close to our hotel. We started with three tapas. Our first one was the MELONES & CHICHARRONES (pork belly, watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, cucumber, spiced pistachio-honey mousse, intentional harvest microgreens). Although we've never had that combination of flavors before, they went together very well. The melons were great and the pork belly was crispy and delicious. Next, we went with the PULPO & VIEIRA A LA PLANCHA (seared Mediterranean octopus, scallop, harissa picada, romesco sauce, Intentional Harvest microgreens). It had a small piece of octopus and a single scallop. What it lacked in quantity, it made up for in quality - absolutely delicious. Octopus can become rubbery if even remotely overcooked. This was not. The final tapa was CROQUETAS DE PERNIL IBERICO (cured Iberico ham croquettes, lemon-aleppo aioli). It was also delicious - crispy and salty. Each of these dishes had a delicious sauce that complimented it perfectly. That was the best of the meal. Then, we ordered the PAELLA DE MARISCOS (saffron-seafood stock, salmon, mussels, clams, shrimp, sofrito, picada sauce). Now, I love a good sofrito, but this was bordering on burnt. There was very little rice and, either they were out of salmon or they forgot to put it in as it was non-existent. After such small portions, we were still a little hungry, so we had TARTA DE QUESO (Basque inspired cheesecake, cream cheese, vanilla, lemon, sour cream, seasonal gastrique). Honestly - the worst piece of cheesecake I'd ever eaten. It had very little flavor and the "gastrique" was equally flavorless. If I were going to return, I would stick to tapas, which were delicious and maybe do a few more (such as the Crab Croquettes or the Spanish Squid), skip the paella and go elsewhere for dessert. Three tapas, paella for 2 and cheesecake was over $300 - a little high, even by downtown Portland standards.

Yelp
While looking for something a bit more high end and different to celebrate our anniversary, Can Font popped up on Yelp during the search. Reservation was made on online, we arrived on time and sat down quickly. (we were the second table at 5:30 on a Friday, place was packed by the time we left around 7-7:30) Every staff including our waitress were very nice, we felt very welcomed in this modern setting. We started off with some cocktails, both the mezcalita and Don Quixote were very well made, balanced and interesting. The charred salt on the mezcalita is the first time I've had seen it, definitely brings added layer of aroma and flavor. We mainly focused on getting tapas, after reading about the mixed feedbacks on the paella, I made sure to only order one to share, but that ended up fairly decent (not necessary special). The chipirones Fritos was very fresh, great texture and just a small amount of breading, it was perfectly done. The shishito peppers was cooked and seasoned very well, I couldn't stop eating them. Patatas bravos was good as most Yelp reviews mentioned, the bombas was made well, the flavor is balanced, another excellent dish. Our waitress comp'd our desserts after hearing about our anniversary celebration, which is also a nice gesture that I appreciate very much. All in all, it was a great experience at this place, it can certainly get expensive depending on what you get, but we felt the price we paid for is justified. This place will remain on my list of places to revisit.

Yelp
A great place in the Pearl area that offers some tasty food that also includes paella. We ordered a couple of the paella - Pollo & chorizo and the Mariscos (seafood) one. My friends enjoyed the seafood one while I enjoyed the chicken and sausage one. The canelones trufados, patatas bravas, and pan con tomate were also pretty good. Overall, a great meal with some great friends.

Yelp
My niece chose Can Font for her 30th birthday last week. The best thing this restaurant has going for it is its service. Of a party of 7, 5 of us are vegan/vegetarian. They did have several vegan options but, not one of them outside of the cocktails was worth the money. My family lived in Spain. We know what Spanish food should taste like, and Can Font missed the mark on every dish we ordered except for the olives and Shishito peppers. Pan Con Tomate (no flavour), Patatas Bravas (salt lick and mushy) Paella Vegana and Paella de Setas (rice over cooked, salty, and completely devoid of defined flavours). I'm not sure how the seafood and meat eaters fared, other than my other omnivore niece loving her first taste of lamb (chops). My husband had the ceviche and seafood paella. I understand the food has a Northwest twist, but lack of seasoning and using too much salt is never an excuse. $640 for seven people, 35% was for the tip (my husband is generous!) Last year we took my Dad for his birthday to a Spanish restaurant in SE Portland which was excellent. If you want more authentic Spanish food, Can Font is not the place to go.

Yelp
The wine, tapas and ambience was truly a joy. The most underrated item on thr menu has got to be the Ken's bakery bread --- PAN CON TOMATE (V,VG) fresh crushed tomatoes, bread, garlic oil, sea salt. I could have made a meal and a half out of this! We also had... ALBONDIGAS (GF) (LOVED) Painted Hills beef meatballs, manchego cheese, red pepper-tomato sauce, chives CROQUETAS DE JAMON & QUESO (GF) Iberico ham-potato-manchego cheese croquettes, tomato-piquillo sauce CEVICHE (GF) (also LOVED) scallops, shrimp, octopus, sable fish, red onions, bell pepper, lime, cilantro, avocado, chips Among a few other items I'm sure of it. Wish I had thought to write it down :) Such a great night

Yelp
First time checking this place out. Nice setting, though we got sat right behind the host stand which feels sort of closed off from the rest of the restaurant. Ordered a few cocktails, two starters and one paella. The paellas here aren't all that big, but can be fine for two people who aren't super hungry. Food overall was good - nothing that blew us away though. Service was a bit slow this night but I think it was just them needing another body - the place was full. Nice service when we got it though. Main knock on this place are the prices - Yeesh. When I think of tapas (of which there are many), I anticipate somewhat more accessible prices to entice people to order a few items, but this place has some of their starters pushing in the $25+ range - that really adds up. Pretty good spot overall - probably not a place we'd frequent but glad we got to check it out.
google avatar

Yelp
Found this place to be quite average. We tried a selection of their appetizers: - pan con tomate: 4 large pieces - good for filling up, nothing special in taste Fried anchovies: okay in taste but the amount was too much for 2 Patatas bravas: Good, would get again Salteado de Mariscos: Good and would get again Charcuterie: Didn't love this and the bread that came with it was 2 more large pieces of pan con tomate, would have liked a heads up from the waiter that we were ordering 6 pieces of those for 2 people.... Seafood croquette: Good, not sure if I'd get again though Overall, spent $200+ for 2 people, had plenty of food, mostly good but nothing I'm left craving, and would have appreciated some feedback from the server that we were already getting bread with one of our dishes and didn't need more. It was worth one try!

Yelp
My husband absolutely loves tapas so we decided to come here with another couple on a weeknight. We decided to split everything and ordered the following: bombas, salteado de pulpo y camarones, paella de pollo y chorizo, and Serrano y pan con tomate. The paella was amazing and the portion was huge. Both couples went home with leftovers. Ours fed us both for lunch for about two days. I wasn't a huge fan of the salteado because of my hatred for olives but the two guys went nuts for it. The bombas were good but I feel like previous reviews on here overhyped them. The Serrano y pan con tomate was overpriced to me and I wouldn't order again. It was like a bland bruschetta with a few slices of ham on the side. The drinks were great! We all got sangria and really loved it. My husband got the viva ucrania- a drink whose entire proceeds go to the Ukrainian Red Cross- and enjoyed it but it wasn't his favorite. I got the laguna and enjoyed it as well but i think it may have been a little too complicated flavor-wise, from orange blossom to lavender to coconut etc, it was hard for me to focus on one flavor profile.

Yelp
This was a fancy place to have brunch. The food was very pretty and tasted good. More on the pricier brunch side. Waiter was very helpful and provided recommendations on what to order.

Yelp
Just wow! One of the best meals I've had it a while. Wish I had pictures of everything we ordered because not only did it look great but it tastes amazing! This is a great spot for tapas and paella. I'd recommend eating family-style. We ordered 4-5 tapas and a paella for 3 people and were stuffed. The service was also great. They took a little to seat us since it appeared they were a bit short staffed but after that everything was great.
google avatar

Yelp
By far my BEST dining experience since I've been in Portland. The service was great... The food was superb and more flavorful with each dish. Definitely recommend to any and all who are looking for a amazing evening of great food and stacked wine list to choose from. Can Font has been placed on my Portland Platinum List.

Yelp
Attractive interior and ambiance, friendly front of house staff, and delightful Spanish-inspired small plates.

Yelp
Solid spot for Spanish paella and tapas. Nice ambience. Service was attentive and friendly. Would come back again.

Fiona K.

Yelp
Pretty nice tapas spot! I admittedly don't go to a ton of tapas places, but the food here was tasty. It's a little nicer so could see this being a great date spot. We ordered the bone marrow, octopus, and negra paella to share, along with a couple drinks. All three dishes were good, with the standouts being the bone marrow and the paella for me. We ended up getting the single serving to split between the two of us and it was perfect. Downside is that the food is pretty pricey and the portions (especially for the appetizers) were small. The paella would've been $60+ if we had sprung for the double serving option, which does seem pretty spendy for what the dish is. Either way, the food was good and I'd be back if i was in a splurging mood!
google avatar

Grace L.

Yelp
Service was slow. Paella was cold with undercooked shellfish. The charcuterie board was underwhelming with mediocre array of meats. Water wasn't served until asked, bottle of wine we ordered arrived late.
google avatar

Leon S.

Yelp
No... not for the price they're charging. They're trying to make Spanish cuisine. The ingredients are all there. But the care and attention to detail in preparing said ingredients isn't there at all Potatoes were not high quality restaurant food. That was legitimately shameful. I don't even want to talk about this dish anymore. Paella was over cooked. As in, every single piece of seafood was over cooked and the rice was burnt and stuck to the bottom. Shellfish were so over cooked that they were stuck to the sides of the shell and had to be peeled off... shrimp was chewy, salmon was chewy. Just a complete failure of a dish. I will give them 2 stars because the servers were nice, but there HAS to be better Spanish/Iberian cuisine in Portland. For the price, this place probably won't stay open much longer into the foreseeable future.

Yelp
Who wants Tapas? I want Tapas!!! It took me a while to find a Tapas place in Portland and lo and behold I found Can Font. The name itself makes no sense in Spanish but the food is so good that who cares lol. This tapas place is more modern than the traditional tapas one might expect. But that doesn't make the food any less worth it. There dishes are good and I recommend ordering their Tapas and their Foie Gras. Very very tasty. The pictures says it all.

Yelp
This was the perfect upper scale dinning experience with family! Our waiter was thoughtful and fun without being over bearing. Everyone at the table got something delish to eat, and this table is not an easy one to please. With some Vegans, some Carnivores, some Gluten free, some other food sensitivities too. Our waiter listened very well and made sure we all were on the road to a full belly and a smiling face. I got a tofu dish that was just delightful. I also tried a few other things on the table like veggie temporah, which was easily the best tempora I have ever had. Notice I have not clue how to spell Temporha. I will definitely be back here.. Perfect for a romantic date night, or a night out with the fam.

Yelp
Beautiful corner ~ inner decor perfect hipster dining. Outside open air seating along the windows great for the summer night. Dining later in the evening meant a lot of the menu was sold out. Same with the alcoholic beverages. Not the less our remaining options were tasty. Recommended~ Paella de Mariscos takes a little time but good things take time.

Yelp
Took several weeks to get a reservation. Greeting at door was lukewarm at best. Excited to try paella. We had a few apps a few drinks and two desserts. All was good but nothing great. Service okay. Overall just bland food and quite pricey.

Yelp
My husband and I wanted to try a new place for our 1 year wedding anniversary so we reserved a table and were kindly greeted when we walked in. They took our coats and sat us immediately. The we ordered several tapas. We absolutely loved the patatas bravas and steak bites. I was blown away by the squids ink pallea! It was so tasty were glad we ordered the smaller version since we had been eating other things throughout dinner. The drinks were delicious too. We has a fantastic dinner and kept saying that of all the places we ate at for our anniversary weekend this one definitely had the most bang-for-your-buck!

David A.

Yelp
This was an amazing meal. Wish this restaurant was in our home town. We got the roasted peppers, potatoes and beef, cerviche and the Miata salad. Very nice and good service and atmosphere

Yelp
Authentic Paella Valenciana is a must try. This is the only Paella restaurant who gets the soul of Paella. Try the rabbit one, then you will know the difference between rice with seafood and Paella.

Yelp
**vegetarian review** I am absolutely in love with this place!!! My friend and I got a last minute reservation for outdoor dining and the menu looked like it had a couple of vegetarian options. We were so wrong. They have many vegetarian options!!! We got the paella vegana, pan con tomate, patatas bravas, pimiento shishitos, sangria and a mocktail. Our tables were delayed for a while so our server got us complementary ensalada alegria. Every single thing tasted so damn good. The salad was the first that we wiped out. It was the perfect summer salad light and absolutely delicious. The patatas bravas was perfectly seasoned. I could have kept eating it for a while and have no regrets. There was so much attention to detail not just in the plating but the experience on the whole. The sangria was really nice as well, and the mocktail refreshing. I was expecting those to be on the sweeter side but they complement the food well. The only regret I have is I was too full to get desserts. Our servers constantly checked in on us and made sure we enjoyed our meals The outdoor seating is perfect for the summer days!!! This is a place I would easily go back to again and again. And bring all visitors.

Yelp
Can font is a Spanish restaurant that is across the street from a nice park. There is street parking. I didn't have an issue finding it. The food was good and also was there service. It was my wife and my anniversary so they complimented us with some bubbly which is nice.

Yelp
Can Font concentrates on the classics and pulls it off nicely. We visited with friends, and were able to share appetizers, as well as ordering individual paellas for each person. We all began with cocktails at the bar, as our server put the finishing touches on our table. Two people in our party opted for the gorgeous blue and yellow drink whose profits went to support the people suffering from the current invasion of Ukraine. Once we were seated, we noticed the anticipated lead time for preparing paella, and got our orders in promptly. While the entrees were cooking, we enjoyed ceviche (the star of the evening, in my opinion) and croquetas, which looked perfect, but were a bit lacking in the taste of ham which we expected to find inside. The paellas were presented beautifully, with the seafood (or in my case, the chicken and chorizo) displayed on top, and, once we reached the bottom, with the hoped for crunchy layer of rice. My wife's seafood paella shared a trait with the croquetas, it looked gorgeous but was a bit bland. Perhaps the extraordinary ceviche simply set the bar too high for everything else that evening. I look forward to returning and exploring the menu further.

Yelp
We made our reservation on Open Table at 10:30am last Friday. When we got to Can Font, that night, we were told they did not have our reservation. I contacted Open Table and they just told me to continue to have the manager check for our active reservation! Regardless we were put at the kitchen counter and served up the most delicious of meals!! The drinks were outstanding and the food was amazing. This was my second time here and was excited to bring my son, who was in town. Thank you to the man, one of the owners, who personally rescued our evening and made sure we had a great time despite not having space for us. (insert heart emoji here) Looking forward to coming back to this fun place.

Yelp
Nice dining room looking into the bar and the kitchen. Quiet enough for conversation which I like very much. Very attentive service but not intrusive. We ordered several of their small plates to share. The mushroom soup was a stand out, but so were several other dishes. It is easy to get a good meal without ordering a main dish, so we ate very well. We will be back. You too.

Yelp
Came here for dinner and it was a solid 4.5 star experience. The inside is nice and the staff were super friendly. We got a few appetizers - the bombas (yum, though not like the croquettes I had in Spain), the patatas bravas (delicioso!), the bread with tomato (I loved this!), and the chorizo and chicken paella (good, but a tad oily). We finished it off with a chocolate dessert, which was a very good rich fudge-like cake. A great experience here.

Yelp
Not what I expected! Had reservations for dinner ,a week in advance and when we walked in on our stipulated time ,they made us wait for a table for before they got us seated ,the whole purpose of reservations is lost when you end up waiting regardless. Our hostess was warm and friendly and took our order straight away . The restaurant has a fun -upscale vibe and the decor reflects that .Lots of outdoor and Indoor seating We got the appetizers and drinks and wanted to try the paella ,however the wait was going to be longer than usual they said . we decided to perhaps try that some other time because 90 minutes is just too long of a wait for me. Food is good and borders on the experimental/Fusion side. Croquetas De Pernil Iberico and Patatas Bravas both turned out to be delightfully crispy and yet light on the texture even though they are both fried dishes . Noquis Romano is a very different take on roman gnocchi and comes as a big piece instead of several small pieces and is covered with shaved vegetables and herbed pistu. The thing that really was off putting was that they don't check up on you for long stretches of time . Every time we wanted a drink or anything else we really had to flag someone down desperately. For a restaurant that calls itself a fine dining space , the service was for sure not up to that statement. We had a couple drinks here ,but ended up going to different bar post-dinner because it was just pure difficult to place an order .But having said that food is the star of this place and deserves 5 stars on its own and I can not wait to come back and try the Paella .

Yelp
Business meeting starting with cocktails at the bar and then on to a table for dinner. The cocktails were creative and tasty. Dinner was very well served and also tasty. We had some tapas to start. I enjoyed the patatas bravas. I had the vegetarian paella. It was very good but perhaps slightly dry. It was a large portion as is often the case with this dish. We also had some great Rioja wines. The atmosphere was quiet and calm which made the business discussions easier. All together a great experience.

Yelp
This place had really amazing food and wonderful presentation. The service was great and overall a great dinner. The patatas bravas was absolutely delicious twist on such a simple potato wedge dish. The sauces really made it amazing however, I think the potatoes could definitely be crispier. The croquetas were not what we expected. They were much softer and looser than we thought but overall still tasted great. The arroz negra was delicious. The rice was perfectly flavored anf cooked along with the muscles. I think the shrimp could have had more flavor although. Things were overall a bit pricey but still roughly worth the experience

Yelp
I made a reservation here for a double birthday celebration....and we arrived 30 mins early to try and grab a drink at the bar - only to find out the restaurant was closed, supposedly due to an HVAC problem that they had known about all day....and we had received absolutely no notification. We finally received a text a few mins before the reservation, with a watered down apology, and absolutely no incentive for us to try them another time. Avoid.

Yelp
This place is magical, where can I even start from? The moment you enter Can Font, the energy feels just right-- it doesn't matter whether it's your first time or second time here, the hospitality is simply extraordinary. I often say that food is what takes me out of my home and around the world, but energy is what makes me return to places. At Can Font, the food and energy will make you fail to say goodbye. If you are visiting Portland, I would encourage you to make Can Font one of your must visit, you need to eat there for many reasons including delicious seafood, great spanish wines, or simply for a peace of mind and lovely dinning adventure. I have read the book "1000 Places to See Before You Die", and if it was about food, Can Font would have made it in the first 50 places. Can Font Crew, please keep doing what you believe in.

Yelp
Small place in the north Pearl. Decent tapas menu and known for their paellas. We ordered several tapas while waiting for the paella's, which was a good call since paella takes 45 minutes. The tapas were decent Prime and the paella's were huge. We probably could have shared a single portion rather than the double. Food was great and while a little slow, service was good.

Yelp
This place is amazing. It is probably top 3 post Covid dining experiences I have had in Portland (and there have been a fair bit). First of all the service is 100%, secondly the drinks and then the food and finally dessert - 5/5. The entire meal. We were a group of 6 We had a massive paella (we got the negra- to die for) and we also ordered the clams, beet salad, shishito peppers, octopus, olives, as well as a pitcher of sangria, and a variety of cocktails (including a perfectly made martini). We finished this light meal with creme brûlée. Do yourself a favor and go here.

Yelp
Excellent food and service! We ordered the Boquerones Fritos, Patatas Bravas, and the Paella with Pollo y Chorizo. All the dishes were fantastic and so flavorful! The Matador was a wonderful margarita style cocktail.
