"The wrought iron railings out front and the red brick walls give Caña an Old World vibe, just like much of Havana. Stop in for Cuban sandwiches, chicken empanadas, arroz con pollo, and ropa vieja, the island’s signature stew of slow-cooked beef and tomatoes that resembles old clothes simmering in a laundry pot. On weekends, when Caña hosts a swinging salsa dancing scene, the bar never stops mixing up sangria and five kinds of mojitos." - Maria C. Hunt

Stopped in early morning for some of their famous Cuban coffee and instantly loved it. Decided to then try their Plantains and beef patties for something lite and it was worth it. I love the California infused take on the chicken patties. The plantains were just right and came with a cinnamon butter that you pour over them. I will definitely came back for dinner and give an update.

From what I know since the early 90s, this is the 3rd restaurant in Oakland; Caña has been my all time favorite and, lucky for me, plantanos maduros have always been on the menu! We tried to order a bit of everything because it’s all so delicious! There’s plenty of vegetarian dishes as well. Delicious food….. yet, wait, there’s more! We were greeted with “above and beyond” service when we changed tables due to our growing party of friends, along with special seating needs. Congratulations to Caña for continuing success!! *Wheelchair friendly*

Google
food was delicious! and drinks were fun too I tried a spicy mezcal and tequila frozen drink - white storm I think oooo it was spicy!!! 😮‍💨 in a good way usually not a fan of mushrooms but their veggie empanadas were 🔥 the sweet cinnamon dip that came with the maduros was super good too - I’ve never tried it like that before 10/10 🫶🏽

First time visiting CANA Cuban Parlor & Cafe in Oakland and it was a good experience. CANA is located on the northbound side of Lake Merritt not to far from the Grand Lake Theater. CANA Cuban Parlor and Cafe, just as it sounds in the name is a restaurant inspired by Cuban dishes, culture, folklore, and spirit. The Cafe sears around 50 folks comfortably and serves authentic Latin America inspired dishes for those with varying palettes. There are two large flat screen tv’s that stream sports, a decent size bar, friendly staff, and on Sunday’s live music. If you ever visit on Sunday, it’s nicknamed “Sunday Funday,” because of the live music, encouraged salsa dancing, and unique menu catered to the Sunday audience. There is a brunch menu available from open until 3:00 pm, a specialized drink menu, and Sunday specific dishes. Today, my wife order the Salmon and I got the Havana Salad with grilled chicken. The salad was great and I’d definitely recommend trying it. Good spot for a casual date or brunch with friends/colleagues! My only complaint is that our food took entire too long to come from the kitchen and our waitperson was friendly but a bit absent minded. Had to remind him about silverware and he forgot to bring my wife her mimosa.

Google
We are huge Cuban food fans and this was our first time trying this spot. Jerk chicken and fried chicken were great. Unfortunately, the sides were cold and our mango slaw not only was rotten and fermented, but it had a dead bug in it. Pretty disappointed after spending 50 bucks on dinner.

Google
Nice and Friendly staff, I ordered the chix and waffles. Was just ok... Presentation was nice. Only real problem I had was I kept finding plastic in my waffles. Big turn off for me.. However, if they fix that I do think it can be a kool spot otherwise.

Came here for Sunday Brunch and it was packed. One can feel the upbeat energy from outside the restaurant/bar. I would recommend this place to a friend. On Sundays this restaurant/bar has two sections: 1. for strictly food 2. food and dancing. Please note that the food section, divided by a wall does not have a cover charge but you cannot see the live band playing, you can only hear the music. Both sides are packed so choose a section based on your needs at the time. My friend and I decided to pay the $10 surcharge so that we could enjoy the food and live band. After 3pm, the tables from section 2 are removed and that area is transformed into a salsa and meringue playground. The music was 5 stars. Those musician kept the beat going and the dancefloor was quickly packed. Disclaimer: The security guards at the entrance can be a bit gruff but they are pretty friendly once you approach them nicely. Pro: 1. The Food- was amazing. I tried their mashed yucca for the 1st time and I was in love! This dish came with fried chicken, a plantain side salad with a mango chutney dressing which made me feel like I was on a tropical island. We also had tostones for the appetizer and they were also made fresh to order. 2. The mixed cocktail- has the perfect amount of alcohol. 3. Music 4. Dancing Cons: 1. Wait time and cover charge to get in

Google
Ok. I would say this place is Cuban style, not authentic, but I loved it. The waiter was a bit weird, he gave me a first bump, but super nice and really attentive. The food was great, my girlfriend was happy, and we left with a smile and full belly. Get the skirt stake, and the beets salad.

Melissa G.

Yelp
I am so sad to refer to this as my first and last trip to Cana as they will close their doors permanently on Feb 18. But was excited and happy to sample a variety of food for dinner with 2 friends. The food was amazing! They had a great drink and food menu with a variety of things, but I opted out of drinks for the night. Cute little spot with dope artwork and a small cozy atmosphere, great for date nights. Also heard they have live bands and dancing on the weekend for brunch.

Skipp E.

Yelp
Went here and overall it was good. We had the black beans and rice, savory plantains, impossible empanadas and the ceviche. I really liked the empanada and the green sauce it comes with. The beans and rice wee a good filler and the beans were flavorful. The plantain was good but its dipping sauce made it that much better. The civiche was full of flavor, not enough fish, too much avocado in my opinion, but still was crisp and refreshing Love the atmosphere as well/ Downside as we sat in our car parked right next to the theater we watched some thieves break into a car with people everywhere watching. The area has went downhill in recent years and it's not safe to park your car. Cars everywhere with busted windows. Love the food and shops etc, but not worth replacing a window, thankfully we were lucky.

Yelp
We came late at night, and were the only customers. We parked across the street, and was about to go salsa dancing my next door. So we decided to come here for dinner first. The waitress served us quickly and gave us good recommendations. We both ended up with oxtail and rice for $30+. At first I thought it was expensive, until the food came and it was shareable size. It was so good, moist, tender so flavorful. It was too big so we had to take the left over home. I would love to come back and try other stuff on the menu.

Richard R.

Yelp
Came here on my birthday because I wanted something different. I got Beef Empanadas, Ropa Vieja I believe. Food was bomb. I need to try the other stuff.

Cameron B.

Yelp
On a quiet mid-week night Cana closes down the main seating part of the restaurant in favor of focusing on the small café space attached to the kitchen. Smokey and loud this actually adds some vibrance to the space that other reviewers remark happens on the weekend. I was in the mood for something differnt and Cuban food looked to scratch that itch. I came with some friends so we were able to try a few drinks and dishes. I will caveat that everything tasted VERY good but the 'average' star rating comes from the price. We started with some grilled plantains and the beef and chicken empanadas. The plantains were tasty (about 6 small pieces), starchy and sweet; just the way I like it. The empanadas come out 2 in an order $14 each. The picadio (beef) were filled with ground beef, olives and spices served with a green caper sauce. The chicken were filled with shredded and succulent chicken served with a garlic green sauce. Wrapped in a crispy dough, a little more butter and a deeper fry would have put it over the top. The chicken were the winners here. We got fried chicken sandwiches which were served with a side salad and came as a decent size fried cutlet on grilled bread and all the fixings. Flavor bomb that blew it out of the water. We also got a grilled chicken platter flowing over with black beans, rice and roasted vegetables. Again, the chefs know how to cook some chicken and the flavor of the beans were so authentic. We wet our whistles with mojitos, $14 and a glass of rioja wine ($18) meaning each of our bills came to about $70 pp with tip and tax. For a shared app, 2 drinks and a sandwich in a cafe? I love to support local, I know we have an inflation issue, but I can't rationalize the food to price ratio. I hope that the next calendar year sees prices normalizing so I can come back for my Cuban fix w/o stressing the wallet!

Yelp
Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT COME HERE. My friend and I came to Caña this past Sunday and had such a bad time. We didn't get our food for almost two hours, yes, two hours, and they only brought one of our plates out at first, even though we ordered at the same time. When I tried to hunt down the waitress to see where my friend's plate was, she rudely told me, "You can enjoy your food" What restaurant does that? If the order got missed or forgotten, take accountability and apologize for not having both of our meals out at the same time. My food obviously got cold after waiting 40 mins for my friends to arrive, so I didn't eat it. There was no apology or anything; I even had to dispute getting charged. The one star goes to the gentleman who was taking care of those who ordered bottomless mimosas. He was prompt with his pouring and ensured my friend got a nice buzz. The restaurant has a good vibe (the DJ was enjoyable), but the service and long wait time quickly make this place worth avoiding, especially if you're hungry.

Ray B.

Yelp
We came here on an unplanned St Patrick's Day. At the bar was a few locals watching Puerto Rican baseball. It was your typical Oakland bar scene with an old hipster couple, a construction worker and some other random Oaklandites. The portions are huge for a post pandemic, pre recession restaurant. If I had one complaint, the food was served lukewarm, which gives the impression that it wasn't made fresh. Overall, it was a positive experience. BB

Jude D.

Yelp
I love this spot cause not only is there great outdoor seating, but the appetizers and drinks are solid. I had the sweet plantains with a cinnamon cream dip and a white sangria that was delicious and slightly sweet. Will have to come back and try the entrees next time!

Falisha R.

Yelp
Well... don't ask for free bread, they give it and charge 5$ for it... drinks are 15 each and not strong. 6 bucks for 4 drinks and burnt bread.

Shani S.

Yelp
We had an amazing experience at Cana!! Brunch was delish, and the mimosas kept flowing. If you make a trip to Cana be sure to ask for Ivan!!!! Best server EVA!!!!! Be sure to try the pollo empanadas, the shrimp and grits and go bottomless or go home!

Cheryl D.

Yelp
Good quality food and the customer service team was knowledgeable and extremely helpful!

Yelp
I didn't quite know what to expect, yet overall the food is excellent. Pre-pandemic, whenever I walked by this place, it was vibrant with an overflow of patrons, loud music, and lots of conviviality; a true Cuban atmosphere. It was a bit more subdued when I visited. Only the cafe portion was open yet I had ordered for pickup online. All went smoothly and I like the convenience of paying in advance The order wasn't quite ready when I arrived at the designated time, but shortly thereafter. Also, the expected text alert that the order is ready arrived at 5:04am. A bit of a glitch. I ordered the following- Jerk Grilled Chicken Wings: they were just OK, and didn't have the punch of spice I expect from Jerk Caribbean food. The side of blue cheese dressing was ordinary. The wings were cooked well and meaty. Bistec Encebollado: a ribeye steak that I ordered medium rare. It was perfect, a nice cut and succulent. The potatoes and onions with it were great, tasty and cooked perfectly. A very good dish. Empanada Pollo: the online menu only has beef but I saw another menu with chicken. I requested chicken and got it! The empanadas are large and full of meat and flavor. Some of the best I've had in the Bay Area. Comes with a nice cilantro sauce. Arroz Con Pollo Fricassee: absolutely delicious and a standout entree. The chicken is plentiful and falls off the bone tender. The rice was flavored and incredibly good. Tostones con Mojo: fried plantains that exude flavor and quite tasty. They come with a fresh and light dipping sauce. The consistency, however, was a bit too crunchy for my taste. Grilled Pan Cubano: I was curious about Cuban bread and it was fresh and large cuts that had indeed been grilled with a light spice rub. It is good. New Havana Salad: very fresh and full of greens and special extras, like black beans, mango, tomato, slivers of manchego, and banana (plantains perhaps?) The dressing was delicious and had a fruity taste. I just wish they would tear the greens down some as you get huge pieces of leaves to eat...ok, get a knife to eat it! Not everyone in the kitchen was fully masked but those dealing with the public were. I feel for those working in restaurants these days, it's tough. TIP WELL! Overall, it was great and I would gladly return for more. Cuban food is hard to find.

Yelp
On a brisk Sunday winter evening, the salsa was on. I will start with the food- it was better than I thought it would be. Flavors deep, rich and flavorful. We were a group for a birthday celebration and sat on the restaurant side of the cafe. The service was good. The only downside was the music was seriously loud, and it made it difficult to have a conversation. The salsa dancers seemed to be having a good time - lots of activity. I would like to come back on a warm sunny afternoon, sit outside, enjoy the food with one of their cocktails and soak in the vibe.

Maria C.

Yelp
Empanadas and mojitos were excellent! The ambience was perfect to meet up with friends have a bite to eat and dance.

Francisco M.

Yelp
The bouncer at this place assaulted me and injured my right shoulder permanently just because I said calmly "what?" when he said I couldn't go in. He just grabbed me and slammed me onto the sidewalk before he grabbed my arm and twisted it in the opposite direction. I was completely defenseless. Now I feel constant pain in this shoulder, can't bench press, and have already had one surgery. I spend countless hours doing physical therapy, and the doctors I see can't figure out what the problem is. The bouncer for this place ruined my shoulder for life because I said "what?" when he said I couldn't go in. This place isn't worth it.

Lyndsey M.

Yelp
We sat at the bar to watch the game and the bartender was very helpful. The food was pretty standard, but I would definitely recommend the empanadas! We went on a Friday night and it was not too busy so I wouldn't be too concerned about making reservations. This is a good place to grab a beer and a quick bite.

Suz S.

Yelp
Go to Cana! Really fun spot in the Grand Lake area. Great drinks, good food, friendly service. We got the impossible burger, shrimp enchilada, and puerco asado. The burger and puerco were excellent. The shrimp enchilada was OK -- was quite undersalted and did not come with a corn tortilla as I typically see with enchiladas (I assume the Cuban preparation is different that way). Overall it's a great spot if you're looking for a lively get together with extensive drink menu and yummy eats.

Charles T.

Yelp
This review is only based on my last experience! I'v come here several times and it's always good food and good service! This time around the server/ host Lisa was extremely rude!!!! Lisa is the reason why my party of 8 left!!!

Mindy L.

Yelp
I've been eyeing this spot for awhile and my first visit was a bit underwhelming. Went on a Thursday so was not very busy. Wasn't clear on if we should wait to be seated, but had to order at the counter/bar and then take a seat. Ordered drinks which came out pretty fast, and the paella which was good to share between two people. Good amount of seafood, but wasn't wow'd by it. Nice that they asked if we wanted the sausage on the side since I'm pescatarian! Came out in all plastic to-go containers and utensils which was meh to the experience. I would go back to try other things though!

Antonio C.

Yelp
We decided to give the place another chance. Abandon hope all ye who dine there. My wife got a strawberry daiquiri that tasted like kool aid with the cheapest, metallic-tasting rum available. The piña colada had l almost no pineapple and crappy rum. The filling and chimichurri and caper sauce were ok. The dough tasted of the rancid oil, the stench of which reached us outside. The beet salad had one piece of the advertised heart of palm. The dressing was mayonnaise thinned with beet juice. It was not a busy night , but the waitress never managed to get us the water we requested. She forgot about our beet salad. When we told her that the drinks were not good, she made the wisecrack that "It couldn't have been that bad you drank it." The drinks were small, bad, and expensive. The food so so at best and the staff don't care. Don't bother throwing your money away here. Consider them half a star.

Michelle G.

Yelp
It's a very crowded Sunday with lots of wonderful DJs, but if you're trying to order a drink or food at the bar forget about it. Unless you're that pretty girl in the middle of the bar, you're not getting served. It took 30 minutes to order a drink and I still haven't gotten my food after an hour I approached 2 different waitresses who never helped me and 2 different bartenders. Understaffed, understaffed, and understaffed. I'm starving here right now.

Mike H.

Yelp
Very friendly service. Excellent food; I ate all of the vieja ropa and beans & rice and the portions were generous. Seating is inside and outside, with two indoor sections. Homey, comfortable ambience.

Marc R.

Yelp
If your looking for culture and something different I would fasho pull up here. The food and drinks are good. I had the oxtails they were alright but the rice and plantains FIRE!!!

Igor O.

Yelp
Such a cool little spot, the food is super good and the service is great. Unique drinks too, they really just pay attention to everything.

Douglas M.

Yelp
Went there for brunch. I had the Coconut Mojito, pretty good stuff but if I go back I'll try watermelon Mojito I ordered the Machaca Cubano, the dish had roast pork, scrambled eggs with black beans, it was very good. If I'm in the area, I'll give it a try for dinner or lunch

Gillian O.

Yelp
I hate giving this place 3 stars because the food was PHENOMENAL!!!!! Growing up in a first generation Cuban family, I'm no stranger to authentic Cuban dishes! So I was extra excited to try this place. Unfortunately the service was a nightmare and it outweighed the food. I came here on a Sunday, had a TWO hour wait for a table, and another TWO hour wait until we got the check. If it wasn't for the food, I would leave a 1 star review. The table next to me walked out on their tab and not one person noticed. The ONLY service we had was the drink and food order (at the same time), delivering the food, and nothing beyond that for over an hour. Memorable service for sure, for all the wrong reasons. When I sought the manager out, I realized she was the same person who had served my table. At the time she was behind the bar and came over to address my complaints. She had NO IDEA she was my server!! I told her I could've walked out on my tab like the table next to me. I told her my complaints and said I wanted a discount (hell, should've been a free meal) She went on to say "did you not enjoy the music and food, I don't give discounts"! WHAT!!!! I let it go and explained how unprofessional she was, and what a disappointment the service was. She continued to argue back. She then offered me and my table free shots. Clearly she didn't get it nor should she be in a management position. Food: My favorite dish that my abuelita would make was Arroz con pollo fricase, so I had high expectations. Absolutely did not disappoint!!!! The chicken was juicy, the rice was cooked to perfection, sooooo flavorful!!!! For an appetizer I had the plantains with mojo sauce.. So savory! The icing on the cake is when the live Cuban band performed!! Everything made up for the horrific service! Two stars based off of the service. I will def give this place another shot, hopefully they have their staffing issues sorted by then.

ryan c.

Yelp
Another awesome time at Cana. Service is A1. All the food was delicious and fulfilling.

Alyssa S.

Yelp
Came here for a girls night and late birthday celebration. Waitress was super nice and explained the drinks. We sat in front and enjoyed our meal. Delicious food just wish they didn't waste so much in individual disposable packaging. Would have preferred a plate or placing some items together.

Nicholas K.

Yelp
Fantastic food and great, casual environment. Highly recommend the oxtail and paella valenciana. The service was great and food came out on time. Even on a Saturday it was on the quieter side so we did not need to reserve in advance. Check out the place on Sunday's if you're interested in eating dinner or grabbing a drink with live music. The doors open to the outside and people are usually dancing.

Angela W.

Yelp
It was a gorgeous day out and my mom and I decided to stop and grab lunch at CANA. I ordered the fried chicken and she ordered the pulled pork sandwich. We spent about 10 minutes arguing over who had the better meal. BOTH were delicious. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and SO juicy on the inside and it was served with beans, rice, and fresh avocado. The pulled pork sandwich was AMAZING. (I admit, I stole my moms leftover half) The place is right on the corner, perfect for people watching and enjoying a mimosa pitcher. The staff is very friendly and explained their menu favorites to me when I had a hard time choosing. They are great with social distancing and wiping down everything! We were just a few minutes too late for the brunch menu, but I will definitely be back to try to shrimp, crab, and grits!!!!!

Sierra N.

Yelp
Disappointed in this place ... It seems like every time I go here something is wrong. I've been here over a handful of times because I really enjoy the guava burger. Although I know this isn't Authentic Cuban cuisine (Americanized), the food is pretty good and they have plant based options. One visit, I was with a friend and ordered a side of yucca fries with my meal. When the waitress gave me my order without the yucca fries, I kindly asked if the yucca fries would be out soon. She immediately told me she didn't put it on the bill and didn't ask if I would like some since I ordered it. This place you pay for your food prior to sitting down, so she could've double checked the books to see that the yucca fries were actually on my receipt. Yesterday I was craving their guava burger and decided to try something new from their desert menu. I place an order on THEIR WEBSITE and received a confirmation email stating my order was accepted and what time it would be ready. I get to the restaurant at the time I was told, and find out on a paper that their restaurant will be closed for a week. I tried calling to get my money back, but no one answered the phone. This place isn't cheap. All of the issues I experienced were rooted in professionalism and can easily be avoided if there was more effort put into it. There is no reason YOUR WEBSITE doesn't reflect your actual hours of operation and are accepting orders while you are CLOSED. Do better.

Melissa F.

Yelp
I celebrated my 30th birthday here and it was great! My whole group of 9 was thrilled with the food, drinks, and service. The whole vibe was awesome and they even gave me an unexpected birthday shot. So dope!

Ken G.

Yelp
Great food Great service, friendly staff. Live music set the mood perfectly. Great location, very clean inside, i cant wait to go back.

Morgan P.

Yelp
We came here for a post work drink and snack and fell in love with the coconut mojito. We did a pitcher which seemed to be lighter in alcohol than the individual drinks which was sad. Service was friendly but brief, food was tasty- we got the jerk wings and the empanadas.

Coll N.

Yelp
I've had a lot of fried chicken sandwiches in my time and this is probably the best one. It was a good size, it had a great bread, the flavor was there, a lot of good sauce options. Couldn't recommend more. Also had the sweet plantains and they were great. Went with the recommendation for a classic mojito and it was everything you'd expect. The waiter was super pleasant.

Jesse C.

Yelp
8-11-2019...11a.m. Second time here... Ordered the Brunch Classico $15.00 Added steak $7.00 Bottomless Mimosa $20.00 Live Salsa Band at 4p.m. on Sundayz Feel good reggae music playing... Vuyelwa W.

Yelp
CANA is one of my favorite restaurants in Oakland. Not only do they have Live Salsa and dancing on Sunday's but they also have great food. The empanadas and ceviche is delicious , the Costillitas are so flavorful and the Arroz Con Pollo Fricase is divine. I also love their mojitos. I have also watched many warriors games and NFL games here . On weekends they have a great brunch menu and that's serves a variety of food as well. I highly recommend CANA. Come and check them out next time you are in Oakland.

Reyna V.

Yelp
The food is always amazing. I was about disappointed by the service but I get it-- perhaps it's a slow come back from the pandemic but the empanadas were a hit and the brunch menu was just as good. Always good drinks as well.

Rene C.

Yelp
Went on a warm, sunny Saturday November 13th for brunch. Sat indoors and we were promptly greeted and offered drinks. I am basic, so I got an orange juice mimosa. There are also guava juice mimosas. There are non-alcoholic beverages available for those who want to sip flavorful concoctions and not get lit. Me, I'm getting lit. I ordered the chicken & sweet potato waffle, which came with warm syrup and mango salsa. Three pieces of crispy chicken sat on top of a fluffy delicious waffle. Did not finish it all, dropped the waffle when attempting to put it in a to go box. But I got chicken to take home! The chicken could have been seasoned better, with salt and pepper. It is good, but I guess I am used to spicy food. The empanadas, salad, and Cuban sandwiches were delicious, my table mates told me. I believe it since they cleaned the plates. Had another mimosa before leaving, and it hit me when we got up to leave. Probably why I fumbled the waffle to take home?

Victoria B.

Yelp
Holy F**k ! This food , took me back to my childhood! Absolutely love it! Definitely coming back

Eric N.

Yelp
Shouldn't have waited so long to try this spot! Caribbean food with an awesome bar scene. Fish sandwich had a cornmeal crust fried to perfection, served with a nice little side salad. My girlfriend had a shrimp salad with black beans and mango. Both were great. Cocktails are around $12. Pricy, but what place isn't these days for a craft cocktail. To beat that price, hit up Happy hour from 5-630pm, Tuesday- Friday. $5 Mojitos and a bar menu then. Because the drinks are made by hand, it's kind of slow to get one. Which leads you to start chatting up your neighbors at the bar. However, you can order a pitcher of cocktails, or a whole bottle of rum with cokes and limes, aka Cuba Libres, to solve this. I hear brunch is off the chain here, served with bottomless mimosas. During the World Cup they had all the soccer, and I suspect this international party vibe is typical. I'll return.

latrina r.

Yelp
The food is amazing and the bottomless Mimosas are very good! I've been coming here for years!! I'm so glad to see that the pandemic didn't have a harsh effect on the business

Anibal R.

Yelp
I am from Puerto Rico !! And honestly I tell you the truth, like this place we occupy more in the bay, the service is excellent the food, the Ropa Vieja brahhhh Is a boooooomm,,, I don't drink but if you like to drink and dance, this is the best place to come on Saturday & Sundays. The weather is beautiful the people are very good people and it is a good vibe! honestly I highly recommend to come. I tell you.

Erika D.

Yelp
Ropa Vieja was hella good - got it with the yucca and we also got the plantains on the side, beef empanadas and cafe con leche. Cafe con leche was a little watered down so it was okay. Can't really blame the quality of the food since there was one person running the waiting, serving, etc. when we were there. Looking forward to coming back again!

Yelp
Excellent menu! Food taste amazing, awesome vibes with feel good music. Best time to go is weekends because of the live band - don't want to miss out! In the move for good meal and live band go to CANA!

Yelp
Had a super bad experience here. 1. They were out of espresso so couldn't make either the cortadito or cafe cubano 2. Our food was served in literal brown takeout boxes with plastic utensils in bags. I get it's COVID but either serve people dining in or just stick to to-go orders. That was ridiculous 3. When I asked about my coffee after the food was served, I was told they were out of milk and someone was going to Trader Joe's to get more 4. The food wasn't that good. I went with my Cuban partner and there was some strange flavoring added that neither of us recognized or liked 5. We paid over $60 for two meals and a coffee and some of the worst service we've ever had I totally get why people are so disappointed in this place. Don't even want to give it a second chance

Yelp
Que rico! I visited CAÑA for the first time yesterday con mis amigas and immediately fell in love with the Cubano vibe and outdoor seating. There was a group of six of us and we didn't have to wait long to be seated, which was great considering the place seemed to be pretty poppington on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Our waitress, Felicia, was sweet and served up excellent customer service the whole time. The bartender, Daniel, served up a mean (okay, fine... Numerous) "Million Dollar" mojito, which I highly recommend. I ordered the Plátanos con Huevos, a delicious concoction featuring plátanos maduros, zucchini and yellow squash and a poached egg on top. Aside from the perfect plátanos, the best part of the dish was definitely the sofrito. My girls ordered chicken wings, yuca fries and mixed greens salads--all of which were scrumdiddlyumptious. I'll be back soon for the "Sunday Funday" edition, which features bottomless mimosas from 10 to 3 and live music afterwards. The place can get pretty packed, so it's best to make a reservation. But it's worth it!

Yelp
I've tried so hard to like and enjoy this place but it continues to disappoint each and every time. Pre-covid it was nearly impossible to get a drink within a timely manner, the bartenders are slow, inconsistent and lack the essential skills needed to run a bar. Fast forward to today, the staff is completely disorganized, rude and mediocre. The staff lacked basic knowledge on the food they serve and couldn't even make a confident recommendation or sit our party in an appropriate table without causing conflict for another party who was already promised the same table we were told to sit at, not once but twice in a single visit. Overall if you want to be disappointed, disrespected and enjoy unseasoned food this is the perfect place for you. Enjoy.

Yelp
The food was soooooo good! It was a vibe. The lighting was great and so was the artwork. The music was nice and we were told that they usually have a band or DJ. The bartender Felecia has excellent customer service and made great drinks. Will be back!

Yelp
I've been trying to like caña for almost 9 years now. I love the location and I love platanos maduros, black beans- Cuban basics are not hard to make. The food is not bad but at this price it's pretty mediocre and unimpressive. Maybe the café is better but honestly nothing is great here except Salsa on Sundays. Spent over 36$ for Brunch- not including drinks and was pretty disappointed fried out lobster and cold eggs and service that always seems pretty overwhelmed. Save your $ if you want quality food for two at the same price that is SO much better go to Grand Lake Kitchen. Caña for real- get your act together there is too much competition in Oakland and at the price we expect a lot more.
