How to Plan a Perfect Weekend Getaway to Rehoboth, Delaware | Eater DC

"If traveling with a pet, this spot accepts any dog breed and size and sets you up with thoughtful amenities like dog treats, an outdoor shower, and bowls for food and water; keep an eye out for Sky, the rescued husky mascot, lounging around the property." - Claudia Rosenbaum

The Inn was in a perfect location to go down Rehoboth Avenue and if you want to go to Dewy you’re at the north end of the main street however, it is tucked away in a quiet little corner, so it’s perfect. The Inn was clean and comfortable and had nice little balconies. Jennifer greeted us upon arrival and was very friendly and informative. She even went a step above and beyond by calling a local restaurant we were interested in to ensure they had Heaters on the patio and we could take our pup. It was a wonderful experience.

My wife and I along with our pet Husky Louie stayed at the Canalside Inn for the 2nd time this year and we loved our stay both times. Both the owners and newly hired staff were amazing as they supported us during our stay. The Inn was very clean along with its amenities, was perfect for us in a secluded part of town. This is an outstanding pet friendly family and facility and our Husky loved it. Thanks for making our stay a memorable one. Gary, Ro, and Louie.

We had a wonderful experience at the Canalside Inn. We booked for SeaWitch weekend. We brought our dog with us as they are more than pet-friendly. It’s quiet and very easy to walk your dog across the street. The hotel General Manager Jennifer and the owner Bryan made us feel right at home. Coffee was made every morning. Everything was handled online and was very easy to do. You are treated like family there. Hot tub and fire pits are a plus. The owners put out beer Saturday night for the guests. Simply the best if you need dog friendly accommodations. We would highly recommend the Canalside Inn.

We chose this hotel because they not only accept dogs, but WELCOME them! We had given up on finding a hotel that didn't restrict the number or weight limit of our dogs, or charge us an exorbitant fee for them, but we will continue to stay at the Canalside Inn because of the location. It's a nice 15 minute walk to the shops along Rehoboth Avenue to see the ocean, a quick 10 minute drive to Gordon Pond in Henlopen Park, and if we just wanted to stay at the hotel, there was a nice, short walking trail along the canal in front of the hotel. |We would have given it 5 stars for our review, but the bed in our room was so soft, we had difficulty sleeping.

We have been staying at Canalside for many years and it never disappoints! Bryan and Kristen are always warm , welcoming and treat us and our pups like family! There is a little Canalside park right across from the inn nestled in a beautiful quiet neighborhood where you can walk your dogs. It is a short walk to the beach and many restaurants. We stayed in the ground floor double queen room and it was like having our own studio apartment. We would never stay anywhere else and look forward to our next vacation there!

We had stayed at Canalside 6 years ago in the off season and our return stay did not disappoint. The room was spotlessly clean greatwith plenty of towels. We love the serene location as well as the quirky, beachy decor. Jennifer was a gracious host, checking in to see that our needs were met as well as providing us with coffee in the morning. We will definitely return when we come back to Rehoboth Beach and recommend Canalside to our friends!

Google
Location was good. The owner was responsive to getting a dog to stop barking for over an hour. Nice breakfast spot around the corner. However having read other reviews it was a disappointment. The room smelled funny, old and musty. Had to pick up a clump of dog hair. Screen door was ripped, and the soap dispenser as well the shower curtain had mold. One evening the whole hall stunk of marijuana. Said is was a non smoking facility, which I would assume includes the smoking of marijuana. We didn't expect new, but the little details matter in making a stays more pleasant.

Our recent stay at Canalside Inn was exceptional. The hospitality and service, from check-in to check-out, provided an elevated guest experience. The accommodations were impeccable, offering stunning canal views. Furthermore, our pet received the same level of pampering as we did. We anticipate returning for another relaxing weekend.

Yelp
This is easily the best dog-friendly hotel in Rehoboth, and probably one of the nicest places to stay in this town all around. My husband and I have stayed here twice, once on our own in a suite and again with the dog in a king room. It's a little off the beaten track, but still walkable to the main drag. Canalside is quiet and scenic, with a lovely double-decker front porch where you'll likely be greeted by other guests as you arrive. The rooms are bright and well-apportioned. We didn't have a problem parking either time and check-in was a breeze. The hot tub was small, but appropriately clean and hot. We did not try the pool. There are 2 breweries within walking distance (Dogfish Head and Revelation), which were significant selling points to my husband. Additionally, the beach was about a mile away (although dogs are only allowed on the beach during the off-season). We will definitely be staying here again. I highly recommend it to any dog-owning beer drinker.

Yelp
This was our first time staying at the Canalside Inn and the main reason we chose it was it is dog friendly. That was true for every room. The place was clean and it was nice they had things laid for our dog. Some small issues people probably don't like is they ask you to take a photo of yourself and license and upload it via your phone to eventually get your code for your room. The bathroom was not the best for the price you are paying. Shower looks like from the 80's and the toilet paper was the prison style one ply. I think in the off season they could reduce the price a bit to entice customers to stay here. The location is great as it's close enough for us to the beach but still a hike if you don't want to walk like a mile.

Yelp
This is our first time to the Canalside Inn and Rehoboth Beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The location, ambiance, pet friendly atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for. We will definitely stay there again. Our Siberian was exhausted after or stay at the Canalside Inn. Walking to town and back everyday multiple times to visit pet friendly stores and restaurants ... had her snoozing by the time we left for home.

Yelp
Good for a short stay(1-2 nights at best) my husband and and I stayed one night in March with our dog (golden retriever). check in was simple. You will receive two codes before check in, one for the main door and the second code for your assigned room. I anticipated signs of an animal having been in the room, but nope! The room was odorless and decorated well. On the flip side the bed was hard and uncomfortable. Old padding we assume we didn't raise it to look. A few hairs in the shower that didn't belong to us. but overall it wasn' a bad stay for 1 night.

Yelp
Disappointed to not be able to use a nearly $1000 gift certificate given it was issued during 2020 when I was obviously unable to use it. Owners unwilling to honor even a partial utilization. Taking peoples money during a public health crisis seems predatory

Yelp
BEWARE! This place is running a scam! We stayed for 2 nights. PROBLEMS You cannot find a person to assist you. Young girl arrives on the second morning indicating that owners had a family emergency. ROOM WAS NOT CLEANED! No fresh towels. There is a sign with a phone number to call if you want anything. Door would not lock after the first day. Had to lock purse in car and deadbolt on the second night. Second morning breakfast room dark at 8am...no coffee...same young girl came at 8:10 to start coffee. When I checked out I cleaned the tray from the crate with Clorox wipes and tried to minimize anything other than normal cleaning. Tonight we received attached email and invoice. We were charged more than a nights stay because my husband scratched himself and got blood on the sheets. THAT IS CRAZY! He takes blood thinners and it was an accident. We were taken advantage of....please do not allow this to happen to you!

Yelp
Very quaint, adorable place in a really good location. Lots to walk to, easy access to Rehoboth Beach. The rooms are adorable and kept up really nice. The best part is they are dog friendly!! The owners are accommodating and friendly. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Last minute trip to Rehoboth Beach and we were so lucky to snag a room at Canalside. Lovely room with nice extras like free beach chairs and bikes. The owner Dr. Bryan is very friendly and helpful. The place is clean, close to the beach and shops, and very relaxing.

Yelp
We Went to Rehoboth for fall weekend birthday celebration and needed a place to stay. Arrived early afternoon and found that the room was ready. We were given check-in instructions through text that morning so no one was there to greet us. No problem since it was keyless entry and luckily we did not need extra pillow or linens. Later, we received a text asking if we checked in yet. Not sure that I like this system of no human contact. In the morning, husband saw online that there was a living room and kitchen somewhere. We found orange juice, coffee and a Belgian waffle maker with batter ready to go in the basement. There were 2 nearby restaurants for breakfast if you wanted to eat something. TV was hanging on to a broken wall mount. No channels. You could enter your own nextflix account number if you wanted to watch something. Basically, no TV. Bed not comfortable. Woke up several times due to back pain. We didn't pay much since it was off season. No direct contact with staff. Just a place to sleep. Good location and clean quiet and pretty room, Appreciated that it was available.

Yelp
PART 1 - Gotta say we REALLY wanted to love this place but I/we have been coming to RB for over 25 years and have stayed in 11 of the hotels in RB. This was the first time at the Canalside Inn and unfortunately, we will be booking elsewhere next time. To start, the majority of snacks that were placed in a basket in the room and for sale (VERY pricey) were outdated....some of the snacks it seems were in the room PRE-COVID. The popcorn which costs $3.00 expired in August of 2020, the majority of the other overpriced snacks had also expired months before. There was dust on all of the surfaces (luckily, we had some cleaning supplies and took it upon ourselves to dust the room prior to unpacking). We found the cover to the light over the bed in the night stand drawer, and the light bulb was out. Didn't the Room Attendant see the cover in the draw (or the expired dates on the snacks) when she cleaned? Maybe not since the inside of the draw was also filled with dust. The shower has a rain shower style head and is therefore installed on the ceiling, because of the way the nozzle is positioned (cannot be adjusted because of location) and the 2-3-inch gap between the shower floor and very flimsy shower curtain (see pic), the entire bathroom floor gets wet and VERY slippery and DANGEROUS when you use the shower. Additionally, there is a sign over the sink stating that if the towels are stained the guest will be charged??? Really??? Never saw this in any other hotel in Rehoboth or anywhere else for that matter. When I am staying in a room that costs $250+ I don't want to have to worry that if I get a stain on a towel from a spill or whatever, that I am going to have to pay for the towel. I would think that a stained towel is the COST OF DOING BUSINESS. There is one OVERSIZED chair with stained upholstery in a very small room. If there are 2 people one has no place to sit, and there is no table or desk in case you had to do work or wanted to eat in the room. There wasn't a microwave (or coffee maker) in the room, although the pictures on the website show a microwave in the standard king room. We checked in on Friday and on Saturday we received a text from the hotel asking about our stay. We relayed the information above via text and within 5 minutes the owner of the hotel called my cell phone and attempted to address each issue. He did apologize about the snacks, said it was an oversight and he would speak to housekeeping, and said they could be swapped out. No thanks not paying $3.00 for a bag of popcorn that cost less than $1.50 at the Royal Farms. This wasn't a onetime oversight...I would bet the cost of my stay that every room was exactly the same, with the majority of snacks being expired....NO ATTENTION TO DETAIL. The owner NEVER addressed the shower. As for the furniture, I was told that the hotel was taking a minimalist approach because of COVID and that the owners would prefer that guests eat in the outside seating area. Also, the reason there is only one chair in the room, is because the owners found that guests would move the furniture and hurt themselves in the process. REALLY??? First of all, it was cold out, but REGARDLESS if a PAYING GUEST wants to bring food back from a restaurant and eat a warm meal in their room, instead of having to be uncomfortable in the cold and have the food get cold outside, they should be able to do that (what happens if it's raining?) IT IS SOMETHING THAT CAN BE DONE AT ANY OTHER HOTEL at the beach. If they did not want people to eat in the room and there was no space for that, it should have been STIPULATED prior to making the reservation. Possibly in the same place where they should have mentioned there were no longer microwaves in the room AS ADVERTISED/PICTURED As for the excuse about guests hurting themselves while moving the furniture...I would be more worried about the shower and slippery DANGEROUS bathroom floor.... which again was NEVER addressed. Lastly, the minimalist approach/COVID was the excuse for not having a microwave in the room. However, it would be just as easy to disinfect and wipe down the microwave as it is for them to (supposedly) clean the remote control for the TV (which is not covered in "changeable plastic" for protection during COVID, as was the case in 2 other hotels where we have stayed). If the room is NOT AS ADVERTISED/PICTURED, then let the guest know that before the reservation is made AND charge a rate that is less than PEAK/PRIME/NORMAL!!!! THAT IS NOT THE END! On Sunday morning we received a text asking us to rate the stay...I gave it a 2 out of 5. In less than 5 minutes BEFORE 9:30 IN THE MORNING, my wife and I hear a VERY LOUD/STERN knock on the door. After asking who it was, we hear "It's the owner I want to have a discussion with you about your rating" needless to say it was quite disturbing. When we declined, he persisted to knock and ask again! SEE NEXT REVIEW PART2 FROM MERYL M FOR CONCLUSION

Yelp
Lovely bed and breakfast. The rooms were updated and the facility was kept well. The pool and hot tub are pretty small, that it would be uncomfortable to share with another family, but was fine for just ours. It was close to alot of things, and wash to get to. The owners were there often and shared alot or good information about local restaurants. They offered alot of beach things like umbrellas and chairs which was included with the stay. Everything was contactless, which was very nice. The breakfast was individual yogurts and granola and coffee, half of our party had to go out every morning to get something else as there wasn't an option if you didn't like yogurt. Very cute property, would recommend to others.

Yelp
This place would have been nice. Too bad they started drilling something right beneath our room at 9 in the morning. This annoyance went on all morning. It made it impossible to sleep and now I'll be walking around all day tired and with a headache. Also they do not give you the wifi password at check in. In fact, the guy barely said 2 words a The book said the password was on the tv in the lobby which it was not. When we complained about the drilling the guy at the desk didn't even seem to care. He barely even said anything to us and said that they wouldn't be drilling the next day. Also the towel hanging up in the bathroom had a full face of makeup in it. A big black smudge and foundation stain. The toilet back was also stained yellow.

Yelp
Great contactless check-in/check-out process. If you're bringing kids and dogs it's an ideal spot. If you're not bringing kids or dogs and would prefer to not listen to kids and dogs right outside your room before 9am while you are attempting a vacation, find another place.

Yelp
My husband had a long first week at a new job and I wanted to take him to the beach to just relax and unwind. I found Canalside Inn after some serious searching. I wanted the luxury of a hotel with the convenience of a bed & breakfast. Canalside had both in spades. We loved the contemporary vibe (why does every other beachside place look like it's trying to be Key West in the 80's?), the great owners and beautiful amenities--common living room, communal table kitchen with free breakfast, bikes for rent, hot tub & pool and more. The price was perfect and its only a mile from the beach. Perfect excuse to walk into town with your car secure but just far enough away to keep back from the hustle & bustle of the boardwalk and surrounding neighborhood. We stayed one night, and after spending a day on the beach decided to stay another, but alas, the place was already full for the rest of weekend. But no worries, we're coming back! Soon.

Yelp
Our golden retriever, Riley, goes wherever we do so pet friendly accommodations are a must and in the off season the options are very few which is why I was thrilled to get a great deal at Canalside Inn. We came down the end of January to celebrate both mine and Riley's (yes, we are those crazy dog parents) birthday and loved staying in Rehoboth. The owners are extremely friendly and really manage to make you feel like you are family. We had a corner queen room on the second floor and I loved all the natural light not to mention the contemporary furnishings. Each morning they serve a continental style breakfast with muffins, bagels, cereals and fresh fruit and juices in the basement lounge area that also offers sofas, big screen tv's with dvd players and even a computer and printer. I really liked that we didn't even need a key, rooms and entrance to the upper floor entrance is all via a code you are given upon check in and they even supply robes plus each room has a mini fridge, coffemaker (but no microwave - have to use the one in the lounge area). Even though Rehoboth's main drag is just down the street, the inn is on a very quiet cul de sac alongside the canal. The weather was a little brisk to enjoy the seating area on the deck and the pool/hot tub but hubby and I will definitely be back. If you're looking for a nice boutique style inn with Bed & Breakfast service search no further, this place is amazing.

Yelp
Nice, quiet inn about a mile from the center of Rehoboth Avenue, the area's main shopping & tourist drag. While labeled an "inn", it's a bit more of a hotel feel and that isn't so bad. Nicely appointed, very clean rooms. mostly with a white 'beach' motif, tastefully decorated. The 'canal side' upstairs has a porch with two chairs outside of each room giving you a chance to sit in the quiet late afternoons and look out over the sleepy little waterway. Great stay for gay couples of hetero adults, but not for kids. Please, don't ruin the atmosphere of this place by bringing children under 18. The owners are nice guys, a bit quiet but I suppose since they see so many people come and go, they aren't always eager to form personal rapports with all their guests. There's a large living room downstairs, again very nicely decorated and comfortable with two flat screen HD tvs, lots of lounging furniture, books, etc.. A room with a king-sized bed ran us $150 per night. A bit high, even for a beach tourist town in the late summer season. I've traveled quite a bit so I think I have a pretty accurate idea of fair hotel/inn/B&B pricing. Still, a nice place, close enough to walk, (or preferably drive or bike) to the beach.

Yelp
Canalside Inn is a quaint, pet friendly, adult-only hotel, which is located just minutes away from the beach. You are close enough, yet far enough where you're removed from the busy area leading up to the boardwalk. You're in super close proximity to so many "main areas" like a variety of restaurants, strip mall stores and shopping at the outlets. The rooms are contemporary and very clean. There's a small pool and a nice-sized deck if you want to enjoy some quiet time in the sun. What's nice is they offer a small continental-style breakfast that includes muffins, bagels, yogurt, cereal, coffee, juice and fruit cups. A nice selection to hold you over until lunch. The owners Rick and Steve are always on site to ensure things are running smoothly. What I especially liked was the key-code room entry...no need to carry a card everywhere you go! There's a scenic view and wooded area to walk your dog while overlooking the canal, literally right across the street from the hotel. Elsie and I enjoyed looking out there daily during our walks! Being the huge animal lover that I am, one of my favorite parts of our stay was seeing the mild-mannered resident pet cat, Lindsay (Lindsey?!). When she's not wandering the hotel, she's outside enjoying the sun inside her catio. :) My dog Elsie enjoyed greeting her everyday as well! Because of Canalside Inn's serenity, beautifully quiet surroundings, nicely decorated and most importantly clean, pet friendly accommodations, we would come back again when vacationing in Rehoboth Beach.

Yelp
I'm so glad to have discovered the Canalside Inn! It's exactly what we needed for our babymoon- clean, comfortable, and quiet! Our room was small but I loved it since it had the essentials such as a comfy bed, tv, fridge, and a shared balcony/corridor with 2 chairs. A complimentary continental breakfast is provided in the downstairs lounge with standard fare like bagels, muffins, cereal, and oatmeal. This is a great place to hang out in the evenings since they have 2 large televisions, one which has a DVD player. There's a decent selection of movies to choose from, as well as books and magazines. The microwave and ice machine are also down here. This was a great place to stay off-season due to the very reasonable price and cool weather but keep in mind that it's about a mile from the boardwalk so in the summer you'll either have to drive in or get hot and tired lugging beach bags and chairs.

Yelp
I do not know who gave a five star rating to this hotel, I would not give any. My husband made a reservation for a few days, but it was so awful we have to leave the hotel earlier. It was impossible to stay, because of numerous things but especially the very poor service. Of course, the owner did not compensate us for the miserable experience, even it was not our fault. Everything that the owner promised us was the exact opposite. He is a dishonest man. We were shocked at the beginning when we first opened the door to the room. The room and bathroom were very small, not at all like in the photo that the owner showed us. There was someone's hair in the bathroom sink. No beautiful view from the window as promised. The walls are very thin, you can hear everything in the next room. When neighbors opened their door, the door to the room shakes. I was awakened many times during the night. Also, we thought that there was construction going on, because it was very noisy. It was impossible to lie down to rest. No coffee machines, no kitchen, but small refrigerator and microwave in the closet. It is impossible to use the toilet without an adventure, because it moves. I thought I would fall off. The shower works on the principle of umbrella, it sprays around you, but do not on your body. Priced like a 5-star hotel, quality like a 1-star. Our vacation was ruined, we has such a horrible time. Beware!

Kristen H.

Yelp
Meh... this place has new owners and it's not the same. The new owners seem to be more about making the extra profit... for their kids when they are old enough to take over. I'm sorry but I have been visiting Rehoboth for over 30 years and their pricing is a bit over the top during the winter season. Trying to force a customer into paying over $900 for 5 nights during winter season. This is a rip off. It's ok, we have found a new place more our style.

Donna L.

Yelp
Pool is cold. Its clean .. people who work there little not friendly. Hot tub is nice! Its not bad. Not great.would i go back? No. We stayed and they keep it clean thats what i care about the most!

Yelp
This is our favorite place to stay. The rooms are a decent size, are clean and comfortable. They allow us to bring our furry friend, which is a PLUS! The inn has continental breakfast, bikes for the family and its walking distance to the beach. This is our second year here, and will come back next year.

Yelp
My husband and I were so excited to stay at Canalside Inn next week! Initially, when we booked the four days we booked them to attend our best friends wedding. They decided the next day that they would marry sooner rather than later so we immediately tried to cancel our reservations. I was told by Canalside that I had purchased the best rate and had no right to a refund. I am active-duty military so I began working with my leadership to try and get the leave so we wouldn't be out all of that money. Meanwhile I was told by the Manager at Canalside that the owner Steve would call me to discuss the situation, of which he never did. Just yesterday, July 20th, we happened to notice as we were looking at our American Express statement that without contacting us they decided to refund our stay. I immediately contacted them and ended up speaking to Steve the owner. I was shocked at the way he treated me. He told me that he was thumbing through old papers and found some paperwork that said they had canceled our room and realized we hadn't been credited the money for the room. He said that the note said I had been deployed, of which I never said, and he thought he had better cancel our stay. He canceled it without contacting us at all, without any communication..and could have cared less! We would have driven there and had no where to stay! He then made no attempt to help us find another place. He did however inform me that they were sold out and there was nothing he could do. He said "Sorry, I don't know what to tell you." I asked him at the very least can you find us a comparable place to stay, one in cost and comfort. He said "yes I can, I will call you back in five minutes." He did call back with a place that cost twice as much and scored 2 stars on both yelp and trip advisor...I think not. Our friends who frequent Rehoboth told us the place is a dump. Needless to say, Steve, you need to take a class on customer service. Not only did we lose our room and you lose our respect but he also lost our friends business as they called and canceled their room as well. All of us assume that he just wanted to make more money by canceling our "Best rate" and reselling at full price. Steve, I hope you are happy that you made a little extra money and in the process lost several future customers. You are the epitome of the lowest of the low.

Yelp
Nice location and near beach, they have bikes to use. The room was clean except for tons of dust on top of the mirror and kitchen cabinets, I'm tall. The a/c worked very well, pet friendly a big plus. The fridge reeked of fish when you opened it. The continental breakfast is nothing special, something you would find at a 7-11. Coffee, cereal and 1 juice type offered with pastries, muffins all prepackaged, no fresh fruit. We had a Murphy Bed to sleep on and it was horribly uncomfortable. Imagine sleeping 3 nights on your relatives pullout sofa bed, that's what it was like. Their website said nothing about a Murphy Bed! When you pay $230. a night I expect a comfortable bed, and nice pillows that aren't foam!

Yelp
I really like this place. It's a great location. It's basically as close to the main drag and beach as you can be without actually being on it. This equals QUIET. Living in Philadelphia, we just wanted to stay somewhere clean, quiet, and relaxing. Canalside Inn was all of these things. The owners were helpful and polite to us. They told us about their favorite places to eat and even checked on us in the Living Room to ask if we wanted them to make more coffee. The rooms are clean and modern, as you can see from the website. It's not how I'd decorate my home, but thank goodness it's not that tacky grandma or nautical crap that most Bed & Breakfasts in the area seem to exploit. They also allow cats, and while other places do allow dogs, I think they may be the only ones that allow cats. Our room was cleaned very well each day, and we actually enjoyed ourselves so much we stayed an extra night. I could possibly be tempted to stay at one of the couple of ultra fancy hotels for the massages and high-tea, but the truth is you can stay in this comfy place and avoid all the noise and interaction and just make an appointment for a massage if you want one. I highly recommend the Canalside Inn, and I'm picky about where I sleep.

Yelp
We had a great time at the Canalside Inn. Great location - just off the main drag in Rehoboth and about a 5 minute walk to the Dogfish Head Brewery! The rooms are super clean, huge and nicely decorated (hello IKEA!). Free WiFi, nice continental breakfast, friendly folks and a fantastic theater room downstairs.. To top it all off we stayed here for only $60/night on a weekend. Can't beat that! My only complaint was the noisy heater, we stayed here in February so the heat was necessary, the unit was too loud to keep on at night.. But we managed to stay warm anyway. Fantastic place with low prices. Next time we go to Rehoboth we'll definitely be staying here.

Our king-sized room was perfectly appointed, the lounge downstairs is beautiful, and we enjoyed the proximity to restaurants and bars. Check in was a breeze, and the location of the hotel is in a quiet, residential area. There is big porch area with outdoor furniture for lounging, and there are park benches to sit and watch boats go by on the canal. Highly recommend!

Yelp
OFF SEASON review.... Quiet getaway B&B. Very clean, and not far from the main strip. Staff was rarely seen and common areas were very tidy. Would recommend and stay again.

Yelp
Absolutely awesome place to stay! The best hotel we have ever stayed at. It really feels like home, it shows that the owners tried to think of every thing. Very relaxing. First off the location is fantastic; close enough to walk to the beach/boardwalk but far enough away that you feel secluded. The canal is right there with benches for relaxing. Second the hotel itself is extremely nice, clean and very well decorated. It has the feel of an upscale NYC boutique hotel while still maintaining it's beach charm. Finally the amenities: Pool, Hot Tub, Free Bikes, Beach Chairs, Umbrellas, Continental breakfast in the fantastic lounge, outdoor couches and chairs. The only cons I can think of is size, the rooms themselves are a bit small and so are the pool and hot tub. That said I didn't once feel like they were "too" small.

Yelp
Me: I really liked this place. The design, the privacy, the fact that they're dog friendly. They have an outdoor shower (huge) and a pool and a hot tub. They have bikes (with locks) and beach chairs, all for free. The ONLY drawback would be that they're a little too far to walk to the beach *when* you have a lot of stuff to carry. The place is run by two guys, one of which was ... less friendly. Wife: Loved the place. The rooms are beautiful, spacious, clean and very inviting. It's tough to find nice places to stay with a pup in tow so we really appreciate that the place is pet friendly. The drawbacks are its proximity to the beach and one of the two guys who runs the place is very unfriendly and did not make us feel welcome at all when we checked in. A fact that is especially bothersome because he knew it was our first stay at this place.

Yelp
Stayed in October/2015 Pros... Situated in a quiet residential area along canal. Nice deck to sit out on outside of room. Pictures of rooms and building were true to web site, not outdated. Stayed in room #5. Modern and stylish decor, kept up with noticed regular maintenance. Very clean and comfortable. Breakfast area is very nice and clean. Cons... Our initial welcome from staff was basic, not super friendly, true to many other reviews, thats too bad. It is an inn and the wall and doors are thin, if people want to they can hear you. Overall it was quiet. We found them thru Travelocity. We will look to stay again.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I loved our stay here this summer. It was close enough (about a mile) from the beach, but far enough away so that we were removed from the tourist hustle. And, to top things off, we got about four miles of walking done each day! We will definitely come back to Rehoboth. We had a blast. And we'll definitely be staying at the Canalside Inn.

Yelp
Was there for three nights during the off season and got a terrific deal. This is a classy place and I enjoyed the breakfast and chats with other guests during that time. The rooms are large and tastefully decorated. Management is very helpful. It is true that one of the owners is friendlier than the other, but together they run a great place. It is not on the beach, but it is just a short walk to the main tourist business area. Upside to this, as many have pointed out, is that you are away from the noise, hustle and bustle when you want to be. Only downside for me was that the thermostat in my room was not working and so I had to control the heat by turning the heat off and on manually. Not a problem for me because I like the room cold at night. Heated up quickly in the morning. I think only one room has this problem and I'm assuming it will be fixed soon.

Yelp
Do not do business with Canelside Inn. We have stayed here 3 years in a row, celebrating our anniversary. The rooms were always nice, updated, and generally comfortable. My problem stems from a billing error they refuse to correct or even work with. For a place I had recommended to many others (four other couples personally have stayed there with our recommendations,) I can no longer say I would give this same recommendation. Pricey rooms for the middle of winter. Breakfast is non-existent.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here over Columbus Day weekend to do an EatingRehoboth tour. BTW: Rehoboth in the off-season is MUCH less crowded. Still lots of people but nowhere near the summer craziness. This is a beautiful and quiet B&B. Our room was clean and spacious with two queen beds, a big bathroom (with a tub!) and there was plenty of easy parking. Our room (#2) was also right off the nice deck full of comfy chairs. Though it was a bit too far from the main avenue and beach for us to walk, the location, price and room earned the 3 stars. The breakfast was a bit disappointing. It was typical continental breakfast fare: coffee in nice big logo mugs, juice, cereal, only non-fat milk (!), yogurt, muffins and bagels. That is fine. Sadly, the only fruit was fruit cups in the fridge. Lack of fresh fruit would likely not prevent us from coming back here.

Yelp
Such a lovely place! We spent a winter weekend here and were so happy with the Inn. It was clean, comfortable, and quiet. The owner and staff were friendly and accommodating. I can only imagine how great it is in the summer, since it's the perfect location--close to the beach and to town but not smack dab in the busiest sections, so I'm sure it stays nice and peaceful. Would love to come back!

Yelp
My wife and I stayed here for a full week. The room was perfect and very reasonably priced. The rooms are small but very well done so that they are comfortable. The staff was amazingly friendly giving recommendations on restaurants and were generally helpful and kept the Inn spotless. The location is excellent with all of down town / the beach in walking distance. The outlets, Nassau Valley Vineyards, Lavender Fields, and many other attractions are a short drive away making the Canalside Inn very convenient. I would highly recommend the Canalside Inn to anyone looking for clean reasonably priced place to stay in Rehoboth.

Yelp
Wonderful stay. Brian is an amazing host. Rooms lovely. Quiet & restful location, close to everything. First rate experience.

Yelp
The amenities in this place are a joke. The room was overpriced. The pool was very small and cold even though it was 91 degrees out. The pool is located under trees and on a small porch. Hot tub is big enough for only 2 people. There is a basket in the room filled with overpriced snacks. $50 is charged if you dare to come to the Inn before 3 PM. The breakfast was very minimal. Then watch out for the $300 hold on your credit card for "incidentals"--in case you steal something from the room or do anything to the room (we were never told about this charge while booking). I was therefore, very upset when we discovered that the TV didn't work and were told that it worked before we entered the room. Marissa worked us through trying to fix it over the phone since no one is available after 5 PM. Nothing worked so I texted that I considered this poor service since I was told that we needed to wait till the next morning for someone to fix it. The owner, Brian, called me right after my text and said that he had personally inspected the room and that the TV worked. I exploded because I felt that he was accusing us of having broken the TV. He offered us $35 for the inconvenience. I really didn't like his attitude toward me. I had Jessica (office worker) inspect the room before we left so as to guarantee the return of the $300 hold. I would NOT recommend this place.

Yelp
Woohoo! This is my new favorite place to stay in Rehoboth Beach (RB). Husband and I were looking for something just a little different (and inexpensive) for an anniversary get-away. We've stayed in RB a lot and have been fairly satisfied with the different places. Mostly we've stayed in the bigger establishments. A few times we've rented houses. This place though, is a cut above, and worth every penny you spend to stay here. It's small (probably no more than six or eight rooms) and secluded, and quiet. The rooms are appointed in what husband and I called "minimalist" with a European flavor. Everything was spot on, from color selections to furnishings to the awesome bathrobes. And oh, the mattress was amazing! I started the search for a place to stay and just didn't feel like spending $100 plus a night for the usual. To stay right on the beach would have been $150 or more and I know there are tons of places--so why not experiment. I checked Travelocity, Expedia, and Orbitz. Canalside Inn kept coming up and the price was good. Pictures on those sites looked interesting and reviews were good for the most part. So we booked one night, just to give it a try. First, the location was great. It's about as far from the beach as you can get in RB, but we love to walk and it's extremely good exercise. We usually park the car and don't drive again until we leave (unless, of course, to shop at the outlets). It's right by the canal, or Intercontinental Waterway, and it was so peaceful and quiet. You would think you were way out in the country somewhere. Check-in was the only thing that I would mark-down if I could break it down that way. We arrived in RB around 12:30 p.m. The door was open and we walked in, but no one was behind the counter. Then, we noticed the sign that stated check-in times and we had missed morning check-in by half an hour. (Times were 10-12 and 2-4.) We went for lunch and came back at two. This time the door was locked and a post-it was on the door that said "be back at 3:00." I must admit I was getting a little anxious. While we were quite enjoying ourselves, the weather was gloomy and cold and rainy, and we wanted to check in and get warm. Upon returning at 3:00, we were promptly shown to our room and the oohs and awhs began. Price for the room (on Travelocity) was $75 a night. It was listed with a king-size bed, no smoking, second floor. We got a little suite with a king-size bed, huge bathroom, and a nice little kitchen on the first floor. So we got an upgrade without even asking. This room had listed for $95. That is still a great price. I loved the way the room was furnished. I'll post some pictures as soon as I get a chance. This will show the great colors and furnishings and save me from writing (and you reading) a few more paragraphs. Suffice it to say, we will definitely stay there again. The breakfast buffet (included in room price) was about the best I've ever seen. Fruits were fresh, there were other choices like muffins and cereal and everything was good quality. Served on real plates and no plastic! We met an owner. He was very gracious and told us a little about the quest to find a place like Canalside and how they had renovated. Because the coffee mugs were so cool, we asked if we could buy one and he just told us to take one! Good advertising for them, and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy when I use it! Check it out if you get the time.

Yelp
It's cute...it's adult only so it's also quiet. The pros are that it's close to the beach but not exactly a comfortable walking distance. I got a Queen room and it was clean and contemporary with updated modern features and a wall mounted flat screen tv Cons... no microwave in the room, small room, not all the rooms have a balcony area although the balcony area can be shared; there is a curfew of sorts where the front door to the inn closes at 10pm and you have to go up the back stairs; there are quiet hours from 10pm until 8am. Breakfast is not a hot breakfast, but cereal, oatmeal, milk, orange juice, packaged fruit cups, bagels, muffins, coffee and tea are available. The lounge and kitchen areas are very intimate and cute. It's decorated very well and the atmosphere is calm and warm. There are benches out front near the canal and some picnic tables as well. The room fridge is small. The bathroom had a window and that was nice. They have a policy where they charge you for everything and anything wrong with the room including stains on towels or sheets and if you spill anything on the carpet, you'll be charged for that also, up to $100. I had a medical emergency where blood got on the carpet and ambulance had to be called, so i was charged $75 for them to shampoo the carpet. It's less fun and less relaxing and more like being at your mom's since there are so many strings attached. The hotel also has no cancellation or refund policy. I wouldn't stay here again and wouldn't recommend, but it's quiet and cute. There are better for less. 3/5

Yelp
I cannot express how disappointed we were in this hotel. Several of our friends have stayed there and were pleased. We made reservations for 2 rooms on labor day weekend. When we arrived we found the place a mess. Rooms were run down and needed paint and maybe even new carpets, it looked dirty. We complained to the owner and were quickly told if we did not like it to go elsewhere. Now, we are here on labor day week end and our options were few. We decided to tough it out and stay there. We had called ahead and requested a roll away bed. the owner, overt he phone had told us that a roll away would cost an extra $30/night. We agreed to that. When we asked about the roll away after we arrived the owner asked us, "did you bring one"? Seems, according to him, if guests want a roll away bed they must pay and extra $30 and also must bring their own bed!!! We were able to get two rooms at another hotel. (The Bellmoor which is 5 stars in my book) In short this place is over priced, not welcoming, dirty and someplace you should avoid.

Yelp
What a cute place! Just a few minutes drive, 15 min walk, or 5 min bike ride to Rehoboth Ave and the beach makes this place in a perfect quiet location. We were pleasantly surprised how clean and friendly this inn was. Walt was super acommodating and friendly. We borrowed bicycles to take down to the beach both days we stayed, which made it convenient to get around. The room we stayed in was clean, updated, and quiet with a shared balcony and a small fridge to keep some snacks. The lounge is very spacious and we were able to watch some of the early World Cup games while enjoying the very decent complimentary continental breakfast. There is a cute outdoor pool and hot tub. I would like to give 4.5 stars, only because I felt like we had to whisper after 10pm as they are close quarters, set up almost like a larger BnB, and because they will charge for any makeup stains on towels. I appreciate they gave complimentary makeup wipes but sometimes things happen. We enjoyed our anniversary stay very much and would be very willing to return!

Yelp
Great location - quiet but near the boardwalk and restaurants. Easily walk-able to the downtown area. The rooms are decorated in an IKEA-modern style, which made it feel very fresh and clean. The rooms are quite small, though, so if that matters to you, this might not be the place to stay. The included breakfast was pretty good - cereal, yogurt, fruit, coffee, tea, muffins, etc. Set up downstairs like a buffet, just take what you want and go. Can eat downstairs at the table but we preferred to take it back up to our rooms. (They don't have soy milk in case anyone is lactose intolerant, FYI.) Our main turnoff was the guy working the front desk was pretty standoffish and not very welcoming or hospitable. Seemed annoyed when we asked questions or needed something. Probably wouldn't stay here again.

Yelp
Stayed here a few times despite the unfriendly and unhelpful staff because the prices are good and the location quiet and convenient. Our last stay with our dog convinced us never to return. The Inn is advertised as 'pet-friendly" but we were yelled at by one of the staff when our 12# Pekingese trotted down the steps (leashed) to go out at 2:PM in the afternoon. Honestly, 2PM. There are nice aspects to this hotel and the cranky staff/owners are really a minor irritation if you get a good price for the room. But if normal pet behavior is not tolerated, the hotel should just not bill itself as pet-friendly. And certainly, no guest should ever be yelled-at.

Yelp
Canal Side Inn has everything you need for your beach stay. Clean rooms, free continental breakfast, small pool and hot tub, good location, and decent rates. The owners are very helpful and attentive. The Canal Side Inn is cozy and has a B&B feel. You also get beach chairs and bikes if needed. We will be staying at the Canal Side Inn again!
