Super chill cafe. Great for a relaxed croissant+ americano in the morning. Coffee is good & the baked goods are decent. Playlist is nice & service is fast. Glad there are cute coffee options close to where I decided to stay for my holiday visit in Montreal 😊

Okay place, with okay service and okay food. Pastries were too sweet for my taste, not worth it. The dish I ordered (which is one of the most popular) felt like a ‘build your own’ sandwich – tasty. I think it’s a different concept, I’d rate it around 7-8, so 4 stars is enough.

This place has such a great atmosphere! The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful. The service was also prompt and efficient. My coffee was delicious, and the food I ordered was fantastic. I would definitely recommend checking this place out.

The taste of sandwiches was really good. I liked the pistachio latte. It was crowded and somewhat hard to find a seat. We sat on the high chairs in front of the window.

I had a latte with a fresh orange juice. It was very good, the coffee is very good. The service was good too, the staff is very welcoming. I like the vibe inside of the coffee, it’s very cozy, and very nice to work or study. I just didn’t really like the terrace.

Canard Cafe in Hochelaga Montreal is an absolute gem! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, perfect for catching up with friends or enjoying a quiet moment alone. The menu offers a delightful selection of dishes, each prepared with care and bursting with flavor. I especially loved their duck confit, which was cooked to perfection. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable, always ready to offer recommendations or accommodate dietary preferences. Overall, Canard Cafe exceeded my expectations, and I can't wait to return for another memorable dining experience!

Nice coffee place. Cute canard drawing. Many choices of food and patisseries. The chocolatine is yummy. I ordered ice latte and its quite nice. There was a waiting time for coffee which take a while, and The staff gave my order to another guy so i have to wait more.

One of my favorite cafes in town. They use the oolong chai from Say When which is spicy and not too sweet. The ambiance is excellent for working. Smooth Amy Winehouse playing in the background not too loud for taking a meeting or anything. And the place is quite big. Front space with tables and then a back area tucked away. Good wifi, pastry and light food options, good decaf coffee, and just vibes. Highly recommend! One downside is though that it's pricey. CAD$8 for the iced decaf soy dirty chai.

Excellent coffee and great quality ingredients for an overall great breakfast. Menu is all in French so bring an interpreter (waitress was very nice and helpful, though). Very cute café, as well. Looks like a great place to work. Highly recommend the tourn'oeuf (breakfast sandwich). Excellent combo of flavors. This was the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. The breakfast platter was very good as well, a sampler of flavorful things. Although we decided the baguette was not the best we've ever had. Gave this platter an A-. We also got the sandwich au jambon which was good, but could've been better with better flavor combos. Still great quality. Loved the ham here. Also highly recommend the chai latte.

Stopped by for a nice drink and a snack. The kitchen stops making new food by 4:00pm, but the sweets they still had left when we arrived around 5:00pm still tasted good. We didn't know any French, but the cashier was very nice and helpful, and she knew exactly what drink I wanted when I showed her the latte art I saw online from this place.

Best meal I had in Canada! Very good grilled cheese sandwich, good coffee selection and very nice staff. Absolutely would recommend for anyone visiting, very nice environment also that provides a welcome break when traveling. Can't give more than 5 stars unfortunately but I would.

We stumbled into here randomly and I'm glad we did! The smell of fresh baked goodness fills the room. We initially came in for just some coffee but had to order a few of the cookies in the window. We tried the oatmeal and the oatmeal with chocolate. Both. Were. Insane. The coffee was great as well. Definitely worth checking out!

The manager there is really sweet for real I had to find a coffee shop to make a short movie back in 2015 for a cinema class in high school and he didn't mind me and my team using his store to film after opening hours that was awesome and super nice of him plus they do really good sandwiches bakeries and amazing hot chocolates totally recommend this place

I wasn't impressed by anything on the menu, coffee or breakfast-wise, except the vegan date and granola pastry which is a must if you ever go here. I even grabbed another one for the way home. Non-French speakers, be aware that the menu is in French so expect to spend a long time on Google Translate or asking the baristas what's on the menu (doesn't affect my rating).

I still do like this place. But today I've been told, when I asked them a bit of hot milk to warm up my drink coz I took a large size and did not finish it before it got cold, that they do not WASTE milk to do that ? I never had any problems in any coffee before for some milk, so I am a bit insulted, paying over 5$ for a drink and they won't give me some hot milk. They did offer to put it in the microwave. _______ This was my previous 5/5 review. I really like this coffee. They have delicious pastries and some choices for lunch. your matcha latte tea is really good !! Free wifi. Wide tables to work on. Bonne ambiance, quiet. Parking is easy in collateral streets. I did not notice before I went there but you can also reserve tables in advance. We went there as a group x five ppl on a Saturday morning and did not have difficulty finding a table for 1030. By lunchtime it got quite busy though. Only thing is that they close early week time: 6 pm, which is a bit less convenient for students.

Cool place. Eggs perfectly poached and the jam was local/fresh. Cheese was bomb and local, bread was just ok, coffee I'd give a 7/10. Service was friendly but not amazing, although that seems to be different if you're a local/regular then it was cheerier. First time in a long time I've had a bit of a challenge with ordering in English but this isn't Ville Marie it's Hochelaga, and they were still very helpful. I basically just ordered the clerk's fav breakfast combo and it did not disappoint.

So many good coffee place in Hochelaga Maisonneuve and this is among my top 5 "I need my daily caffeine dose shot straight in my eyes veins" place. Staff is friendly, service is hella quick and they have a good selection of pastry to go with your delicious nectar of Coffea arabica plant beans. This place is ten on ten in my books and I'd ruin myself going there again and again.

I love this cafe ! Coffee , chai and almond croissant are the best. It's a comfortable place to work as well. At lunch it may smell a bit much to food, ventilation could be improved.

Montreal has been invaded by loads of independent cafes in recent years albeit HoMa still doesn't seem to have a wide variety of them yet. Enter Hoche Cafe located on Ontario just east of Pie-IX and Promenades Ontario, which is the trendy part of HoMa. It's massive and has plenty of seating. It can get very crowded though especially on weekends. Despite its size it has a cozy ambiance to it. There are a few large, communal tables to sit at or smaller ones if you don't want to get to close to strangers. They always have a great variety of baked goods which are always fresh and generally well-made. The banana bread I had on my most recent visit was very moist and there was a sizeable portion of it. I must say though that I don't really like the coffee. The espresso is much too sour for my liking. Pricewise it is on par for an independent coffee shop. Some might say it is too expensive considering it lies just outside the trendy part of HoMa and I am inclined to agree. If this were Mile End or the Plateau I might object a little less to the prices but we aren't in those areas.

Après avoir demandé à la serveuse de rectifier cette erreur, le patron n'a jamais accepté de rembourser la différence. Un minimum d'honnêteté et un geste commercial seraient appréciés. Une expérience qui donne réellement envie de retourner manger à Canard Café, ou pas...!

This place has the best chocolate chip cookie in town. It's very soft and filled with chocolate. Their chocolate croissant is also very flaky and light.

Cute and cozy coffee shop in Hochelaga. Very friendly staff, mostly only french speaking. London fog (earl grey tea, milk and some sweetener) is delicious, la bicyclette (eggs - scrambled, bread and peanut butter) was not very exciting (egg a bit dry). The granola for the yoghurt was "just" a crumbled cookie (about 1 teaspoon full of it). Asking for more made us feel rude, and least that was the feeling they gave us. All in all, nice café, the pastries look very mouth-watering, drinks are great, other food was okay.

Really nice cafe. We don't speak any French but they were nice enough to explain the menu to us. Food was great, price was great, location was great. Only complaint is they do take a while to make the food.. but it's fresh and piping hot so what can you expect.

What a cute and cosy spot to set up "office" for a few hours. It's a large space for a coffee shop, the kind of place that's so warm that it fogs up your glasses when you walk in the door. There's a definite sense of neighbourhood at Hoche. Adorning the walls are community posters for events and a live music acts. There's groups gathering to chat, individuals pouring over books and others like us working away on our laptops. With big mugs of coffee or pots of tea perched atop large wooden tables, it's a spot where you can feel comfortable hanging around for a bit. Watch out for the trickly loo situation. The men's and women's bathrooms are separated. You'll see the ladies when you walk in the front entrance, and you'll see the men's when you are sitting in the back. There is clearly an icon on each door, but because they're not near each other, it's pretty easy to go to the wrong door. Offerings are of your run-of-the-mill varieties: lattes, chai lattes, teas, coffees. They also offer some baked goods for snacking. And of course, no neighbourhood coffee shop is complete without some solid wi-fi to surf on. Make sure you snag the code when you order your bevvie.

Hoche is one of those rare cafes that makes you feel like you could move into the neighbourhood, because you can see your life revolving around a place like this. Swinging in and out of their door, drinking their coffee and eating their sandwiches. As well as drowning uni sorrows with one of their giant choc chip cookies while you study on their wifi. It's like when you meet a new guy who has no visible flaws, and so your mind gets a bit carried away thinking about your lives together. This. happened. to. me. with. this. cafe. Tasty food, friendly staff and vibe, unpretentious. No visible flaws. Now to get the metro back to my actual neighbourhood and step back into reality. There will be other great cafes, I know. But every now and again I will still think of Hoche and their great toasted sandwiches.

I have been to Hoche around 10 times now and I'm consistently a little disappointed each time I leave the café. The coffee itself is excellent, but the rest of the experience is so-so. For starters, the few plates of food I have tried so far were mediocre. The scrambled eggs served for breakfast are made in the microwave (in front of clients, so at least they're not trying to hide it) which I find hard to accept wen you're paying 11$ for eggs and a piece of bread and jam. The last plate I tried was the croque monsieur, and unfortunately it was also disappointing. The bread was not toasted and the cheese was hardly even melted (probably made in the microwave as well instead of the oven). The paninis were also so-so. The staff is usually polite, but definitely not overly friendly. I always bring back my plate and cup once I'm done with my coffee because I know how hectic it gets in popular coffee shops, and not once was I thanked or even just smiled at. Definitely not a common reaction in Montreal, where most staff is overly thankful towards this simple gesture. My recommendation: great coffee to pick up when on the go. Otherwise, have a bagel or a pastry with your coffee but avoid the meals.

Was very excited to try this cafe out because of all the good reviews. A group of four of us walked in, took a look around and had no idea wether we were supposed to seat ourselves or wait to get seated. If we were supposed to be seated nobody greeted us. If we were supposed to seat ourselves the table we eventually sat down at was already "taken" by another group even though it was empty. So instead standing around like a bunch of idiots we left. Will probably try this place out again but for now not a good experience.

Just brilliant ambience for a breakfast place. We got here at around 830, and there weren't that many people around. So it was nice and quiet. Being quite far away from the city, might be a contributing factor to having some "local" clientele. No one spoke English but google translate helped us get the orders right. The food was good though the serving size was small for my breakfast liking. It was delicious nonetheless.

Let's get right into it, I love this place! Staff are very friendly, the place looks alway neat and also always packed. It's the new era of HoMa and HocheCafé is ready for it. Casual ambiance, you've got your typical student, hipsters, businessman, writers and iPad enthusiast all waiting in line for a great cup of coffee. Depending on who's controlling the fancy machine you'll get a leaf or an elephant draw in the milk of your latte. Tastier than any Starbucks I've ever been to! Great variety of food from side dish to full meal. They even sell their own brand of coffee but it's never has good has the original. Its my go-to coffee house on my week-end days. Haven't tried they full meal yet, but the pastries are delicious. I'll keep coming here for a while and you should swig by for a cup!

This place is adorable. I came here in summer, and it was perfect - cool inside, fresh and cold water, great service, incredible food. I live a little too far away now to come back, but maybe when it's warm again I'll head back to Hochelaga...

Very nice place to go-- very polite staff and great food. Had an excellent salad with beets and winter squash. Price was very reasonable. My whole family had fun.

Crowded, OK. Must be a good cafe if it's packed, right? Just wait & see if the other people standing are all waiting for a table or take-out orders. Several orders came out in the ten minutes we waited, I moved to let waitress past, receiving a polite "Merci" on two occasions, but no offer of any information. No inquiry to either adult in our four person party. One of the reasons we'd walked the 1.4 km from the Parc Olympique down to this café was because the Yelp info included the classification, Child friendly. No sign of any staff member thinking at all about the possible needs of two hungry kids. So, twelve minutes or more of being ignored, you've not just lost that potential 'custom' but garnered a negative Yelp review to boot.

Has the panini with tomato and cheese, very good. Well made, the tomato soup was +++. Good milk options, soy, almond, rice milk.

good independant coffe place but a little bit overrated. good coffe and food, but it takes forever before you get your order. it's a nice place to go unless you are in a rush.

Hip coffee shop for Homa! Seems like it replicated itself from all the other hip cafés. It has the token rough wood construction and a vintage desk for the coffee lids and sugar but the coffee is definitively third wave (metropolis coffee). I hear the brunch is great. I'll be back!

The tomato and dill soup is so delicious! I also enjoyed a ham and Swiss cheese panini with salad. My chai tea was served to me in a personal little teapot, which I thought was lovely. The staff were great and even though our order in English got lost in translation a little bit, we got everything we needed in the end. I would recommend for a quick and tasty lunch in a cozy atmosphere. They have a reasonably priced combo with a sandwich, soup and salad, and tea or coffee.

Not in love. It's a regular coffee shop. I ordered ginger espresso on a Monday morning and the staff was so rude. The coffee was way too bitter and tasted cold. Would not go back.

Perfect Internet cafe. The high speed internet is very high speed, the food is delicious and these sting is comfy but you can work. And the music is very pleasant, too!

Great time here, coffee shop feel, good tasting food and coffee. Close to the arboretum if you need a bite, good amount of space. Menu is in French only, no complaints, friendly staff.

had a lunch special here once with a small wrap and soup. really tasty and the coffee was also great too. the ambiance was also really nice; could see myself studying at the rear of the cafe and also just hanging out on those large tables they have. can't wait to visit again.

I mean this place has it all what else would you ask from a cute independent café in HoMa. Definitely worth going to after a little trip to Marché Maisonneuve (it's right across).

Really close to maisonneuve cegep and best latte! Such a nice coffee shop and the staff were kind and friendly! Had a quick diner and there's lots of plugs near the wall for those who need to charge their computer! The price is real nice (cheaper then starbuck and better coffee &tea !) and the parking isnt hard to find! Its cheaper then downtown too (1$/hour compare to 3$/h) totally recommended love it!

This was the best cafe I found in the area. I generally ordered a cappuccino and either a chocolate croissant or a brownie. All the baked items looked delicious and the salads I saw looked amazing...unfortunately I'm mildly obsessed with chocolate so I didn't get a chance to try them. I quite liked the place as it is priced much like other cafes in Montreal, the staff was accommodating (of my terrible French), and the relaxed ambiance. I would say for those that are coffee connoisseurs that while the coffee is well made the beans do have a distinct flavor that is a little different. Most cafes that I've been to in Montreal seem to use the same beans while Hoche Cafe uses Metropolis Beans (I think they are from a coffee roaster in Chicago but I may have read this incorrectly). I'm not sure how many times in total I went here but I stayed nearby for 7 days so roughly went in about 1-2 per day....it's good!

Amazing green juice to start the day and then I bit into the raspberry muffin and I wanted to go back and get a dozen more! The muffin was fresh, multi grain and moist. Definitely recommend and will be back if I'm ever in Montreal again.

Good coffee, good food, very nice staff, nice atmosphere and lay out, strong internet, I love this place. I suggest you try their pudding chomeur, and when they do it, another version of that dish with strawberries instead of maple syrup. Addictive!
