"Last July, Central Bistro & Bar changed over to Candela Latin Kitchen from Central’s Isiah Salazar and Jesse Vega. On July 29, the restaurant in LoHi opted to close abruptly, and Eater Denver tipster reports. The restaurant’s website states: “Thank you to all our neighbors and customers for this past year of service. It has been a great honor to celebrate Latin food and culture with you all.” Candela served Puerto Rican, Peruvian, Mexican, and Cuban cuisines, although the owners were careful not to call the eatery a Mexican restaurant, despite an assortment of taco varieties available. Vega grew up in a Puerto Rican household in New York. Highlights of the menu included a shrimp ceviche with coconut milk, leche de tigre marinade, and a noticeable kick of habanero. Pastelon layered strips of sweet plantain with mozzarella and beef piccadilly, and diners could order a dozen oysters for $20, empanadas combinations, or a yucca fries." - Susan Stapleton

Stopped by for work lunch. The little gear shaped chips are interesting and fairly tasty. I ordered the mushroom empanada and my co-workers had a variety of the tacos. We didn't have any alcohol, so can't comment. The bar does look very well stocked with a variety of tequila and other spirits. Service was very good.

Great menu, they have everything from small bites and large plates. Great location with a lot of street parking. It was a bummer that our waitress acted put out by any questions and just having to serve us in general. The waitress helping other tables near us seemed great though.

The food and drinks were delicious, and not expensive for the area. The fancy guac was good and it came with plantain chips. The tacos were fantastic, but due to a mistake somewhere along the line it took almost an hour to get them. Not a huge deal, but enough that I can't warrant 5 stars. Their happy hour menu looks like a great deal and I will definitely be back to check it out.

The cocktails are very delicious. The colada is highly recommended

My steak breakfast and grapefruit mimosas was great! The company was my highlight!

Came here for Sunday happy hour from 4 to 6. Pretty laid back atmosphere. Highly recommend the guacamole and wings. Pescaditos for the adventurous and to share. Tacos are the "traditional small" size and taste good, but not the best bang for your buck.

Great patio. Good happy hour. Fun place to hangout and people watch. During lunch, the service is a bit slow because there is only 1 server. The food is good, and there are a number of gluten free options. The pork taco was my favorite and the sweet plantain is worth a try. Get the guac with plantain chips!

The food was delicious! You must try the chicken empanada (listed as a "small" plate to be shared, but don't share it :). And you can't go wrong with ALL NIGHT happy hour on Sundays and Tuesdays. The house margaritas are great. We will FOR SURE go back, and bring some friends next time!
