Stopped by Cane Patch solely for the Mac and Cheese and chicken! We ordered a medium at first...but then after we finished it, we ordered another large! Also tried the sweet tea. The flavors were definitely there for the combo of mac and cheese and fried chicken. Sweet tea was heavy..but paired well with the food. Seems like mac and cheese has been discontinued since we went...hope they bring it back sooner than later! Receipt said Stephan was our server...assuming that was who took our order...he was extremely friendly and positive. Exactly how you should greet folks! Food took a bit to come out, but definitely worth it! We ended up eating outside since space inside was limited and a bit crowded.

Conveniently located within the Liberty Station market with lots of seating available, although it can get very busy at times. The food is decent although the portions could be a little bigger for the price. We had the poboy and fries and jambalaya. I like the jambalaya was a chicken only option.

For me this food is below sub par. There are a lot of soul food places in San Diego. This place is missing something because their food is trash. We spent $50 for small portions of food. We both were super disappointed. The heaviness of the bag did not equal the price we paid. Won't be coming back.

Google
Food was ok, not a huge fan of fish skin still being on the fish even it's in a batter. It detracts from the taste. J was the person running the front, he's was nice enough but seems to be absent minded. For $26 it's very overpriced for the quality you get.

Google
Got 2 shrimp po boys. They are 16 bucks a piece. There were 6 small shrimp per each po boy and they come on a pretty large hoagie roll. You are basically paying $2.50 per shrimp. They taste delicious but you definitely get ripped on the price. It is almost laughable when you open up the hoagie roll and see those baby lonely shrimp. A true po boy should be loaded up and have shrimp falling out of the roll as you take a bite! If yall have been to Louisiana and are making po boys you should know this! I will not come back. The service was excellent though and the girl at the register was very nice.

Google
I never do reviews….but this is downright terrible! How can you charge someone $22 for this small amount of Catfish btw these are catfish nuggets which are a $4 dollar difference on the menu!!! After calling they tried to tell me this was actual catfish filets like what fool would believe that. This is terrible customer service and downright theft

Google
I just ordered the gumbo and greens. Spent $20. I opened the gumbo, my wife said what is that smell. It was really fishy. It didn't taste like it should. When I spoke to the cashier about getting something else instead. He refused and started to inform me that it is a seafood gumbo. It doesn't say that anywhere on the menu. I'm just disappointed in the food and customer service. On a positive note, the greens are fantastic, with a nice kick to them.

Well cooked gator, light and fluffy beignets, simple zesty fries, and refreshing sweet tea. No complaints from me.

Yelp
This was one of my favorite places in Liberty Station. (See prior review) But today we got the mysterious up-charge on my catfish po boy. Although it is not posted anywhere... not on the menu or posted on the counter or wall, the catfish has a surprise $8.00 up-charge for the sandwiches and added a $7.50 tip for themselves. Mind you under normal circumstances I would have tipped anyway even if it is counter service. Hmmm, the least expensive farm raised fish has an up-charge? Not cool...Total came to a blistering $66.00 for two sandwiches. The catfish po boy is smaller now, has less fish on it and the four little catfish "nuggets" (as opposed to the former filets) tasted frozen, were over cooked and greasy. I was burping them up all night. Whew... I guess we got the unposted tourist grift price today. The extra charges netted them a few extra bucks today but lost them a good customer and earned them this review. Buyer beware. Can no longer recommend.

Yelp
I visited here for my second time on Sunday 8/4/24. Both times I've visited, the staff members at the front were super friendly and helpful. They told us how long our order would take, and asked us what area we would be sitting in. They also said that if our order was ready early, they would bring it over to us. Because we already got an entree at another store, we only got the beignets this time. They're made fresh to order and they always come with a side of chocolate caramel sauce. I love them because they're not overpoweringly sweet, and they don't give me a stomach ache like donuts do. They're topped with powdered sugar but the dough itself is not too sweet. So, you can choose how sweet you want them by pouring as much of the chocolate caramel sauce as you'd like.

Yelp
Cane Patch Kitchen is one of the few original vendors in Liberty Market I had yet to try so I went for it. We stopped by here on a weekend for some lunch and I ended up getting the Seafood Gumbo. Customer service was good. Friendly and patient and got my order right. She said it would take 15 minutes and it only took about 10 or so. The gumbo was ok. I started ordering the $15 cup until I saw the size. I instantly asked for the large, $24. It is a little pricey, but everything is nowadays. It wouldn't be a big deal except I felt like I paid $24 for a nice bowl of soup and rice. Minimal shrimp, maybe 4, 3 sausage slices and some chicken. The rest of the bowl was a nicely flavored broth with veggies and rice. It was a good flavor and cooked well but I would have liked to have a little more meat for the price. One bummer with my experience was a random cup of water. I forgot my water bottle in the Jeep and just wanted a sip of something since I figured it was going to be spicey. Now, I am not cheap but.... A cup of water $1. It may not seem like a big deal but I just paid $24 for a small bowl or gumbo you would think they could throw in a cup of tap water. Anyways, it was an ok lunch but I will try another vendor on my next visit. Lots of good options there.

Yelp
Let's start off with $70.00 for these 2 plates ! Yes $70.00 ! The Mac & cheese is okay but the cheese on Top was CRUNCHY , on BOTH plates ? the yams tasted like water & cinnamon & the catfish was SATURATED in grease it did not taste like catfish one bit, unsure what fish that was / was trying to be but it was GROSS ! The red beans and rice were flavorless . I didn't door dash it I picked it myself it was a piping hot plate ! NEVER , AGAIN! 2 stars because the customer service was good.

Yelp
Cane Patch Kitchen is an excellent Creole soul food stall in Liberty Public Market. It's one of the few original restaurants at the Public Market, and if the constant lines are anything to go by, you know the food is excellent! Located in the heart of the Market, it can be loud and crowded, but the staff is super helpful and takes the time to answer any questions. There is plenty of seating inside and outside the Market, so you can easily find a place to sit down and enjoy your food. I didn't have one of the entrees, but I did enjoy the red velvet cake. Oh. My. Goodness! It was delicious, and the portion size was HUGE! I definitely recommend trying out Cane Patch Kitchen while at Liberty Public Market! You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Cane Patch is one of the many food options available inside Liberty Public Market. While walking around looking at dinner options, I settled on a shrimp po boy and swamp fries from cane patch. Getting both was a ton of food but both sounded so good and they were delicious! The swamp fries had so much flavor and were spicy with hot sauce drizzled on top. The po boy had lots of shrimp and great flavors as well! You could easily share both of these dishes with someone else for a good sized meal. I would order both again! It took about 15 minutes for my food to be ready so place your order then look around for a spot to eat. The public market can get really busy and can be very noisy but there are lots of seating options inside or outside.

Yelp
I ordered a grilled shrimp po' boy with steak fries. Add an Arnold Palmer and a $3.00 tip and the bill comes to $32.16. Not cheap at all for a sandwich, fries, and a drink. First: a grilled shrimp po' boy with 6 or 7 small shrimp for $19.00 is a LOT. A $5.00 Arnold Palmer, is a LOT. I waited patiently over 20 minutes to get my food. Finally food started coming out and was set on the counter for 3 of us to watch sit there, as nobody would hand it to us... Finally the girl taking and prepping orders came to the front and handed out 4 bags that were just waiting.. I make my way to another area to find a seat wit the rest of my party waiting for me while their food got cold. I open my container and I have the wrong food. The container had french toast and bacon inside... I take the food back to the counter and now I'm not happy, but explain to the girl that this isn't my order. She looks inside the bag, then starts typing for a bit in the computer and I tell her if they have to make another, and it will take another 20 minutes, I just want my money back. I'm now less happy. IN the meantime, another customer comes up and practically throws her bag on the counter and says "we don't even want it anymore". The girl behind the counter (Lynee) hands me a receipt, grabs her phone and LEAVES. Just leaves. The cook looks amazed, comes up front and asks what happened. I told her she just left. The receipt she handed me was a refund for someone else. Not even my order, nor my credit card, The cook was great about it, apologized, and had another shrimp po boy on deck, and handed it to me in 3 minutes. The food was OK, the po boy could have been much more loaded for $19.00, but I'd rather try something else next time, and because of the service, I'll happily skip anyplace she works, forever.

Yelp
Got their Oyster Po Boy. Honestly, for almost $20 I expected more than half a sandwich. The oysters were nicely fried but thats about it. Bun was stale and the veggies could've used some salt/seasoning. It did take over 20min to get my order when we were told 5-10min so that was off putting.

Yelp
Breakfast po boy. Eggs, cheese, choice of bacon or/ and sausage, served on a soft chewy roll, topped with remoulade sauce. Sauce was nice suprise and paired well. I would like the bread toasted.

Yelp
I loveeeeee Cane Patch! It's the only food I get when I come to Liberty Station and I come a lot and there's always SOOO many options. But this is my go to. Of all time. Sandwich is hefty and generous for the price and the quality is amazing! I love the ambiance of the inside as well. Lots of tables and seating.

Yelp
Cane Patch Kitchen is one of the few OG vendors still operating from when Liberty Public Market debuted in early 2016. Cajun/creole cuisine is the name of their game. Po'boy sandwiches and fried baskets made up the left menu screen. The right screen listed five entrees, seven sides, two desserts, and the kids' menu. I selected the first two entrees listed which were the Jambalaya and Seafood Gumbo. The addition of meat to the jambalaya costs three more dollars, but you need protein to make this item complete. Therefore, I asked for a mix of chicken and andouille sausage. About 15 minutes later, my order had been bagged and was ready for pickup. The gumbo had a mildly spicy broth with shrimp, mussels, and a crab claw included. The price was a bit higher than I had expected for the serving size. The jambalaya was a potpourri of colors from the green onions, tomatoes, bell pepper, and corn kernels mixed in with the dirty rice. For the quality and value of the food I sampled, my rating was 3.5 stars for Cane Patch Kitchen.

Yelp
Scammy.... Watch out for random surcharge. Was about to order a shrimp poboy, says $22 on the menu, but when I was about to check out it was $26 (pre tax). Random $4 surcharge came out of no where. I pointed out the difference to the chaser, she just said they "haven't update the menu price yet ". Don't recommend this place.

Yelp
While strolling through Liberty Public Market, we stumbled beyond Cane Patch Kitchen. Hubby ended up ordering the chicken and waffles from them. He said that chicken was well seasoned. Waffle was decent but not a knock out of the park. It was flavored with either nutmeg or cinnamon. Large portion size.

Yelp
I was starving and I had to go grocery shopping. I don't like grocery shopping if I'm hungry cause I buy to much lol I cruised over to livery station cause they have good variety of pop-ups. I walked around to see which pop-up made my stomach growl. It stopped at New Orleans pop-up, it's been a minute since I had Cajun food. They had gator & it sold me. If you ever had gator it's really good & taste like chicken ( like anything else lol ) The service on point, helpful, & friendly. The food came out fast. I'm about dive in to satisfy my stomach Come check it out !!!

Yelp
On a Trip from Memphis for the a week with my lady in San Deigo after a long walk around the market we decided to stop at Cane Patch Kitchen let me tell you ..... 10/10 the food was fresh , Well -Seasoned, and customer service was excellent I'm from the south and can say this is best southern quality food have tasted out of all my west coast experiences so far !!
google avatar

Dmitri G.

Yelp
If you are a big fan of Cajun cuisine like me, you always try new spots. I decided to try it and was not very impressed. The price for Gumbo in the menu was $15 so I decided to go for it. They said that for 2x the money you would get 2x Gumbo, so I decided to go for it as well. They said that the wait would be 5-10min which ended to be 18min. Kind of a long wait for hungry person. Ok, I would wait that long for good Gumbo, but only for good one. This gumbo was underwhelming, 7 shrimps swimming in the company of 5 pieces of chicken and 6 pieces of sausage. See picture for details. Not worth $30 for sure. I will not be stopping by there again.

Yelp
Cane Patch Kitchen is located in Liberty Station food hall serving up some southern Louisiana classics such as po-boys, fried seafood, and the traditional southern sides. We decided to try this place to relive our past with the tasty southern cooking and it definitely lived up to the hype. As former Mississippians we were craving some fried catfish and turned to Yelp to get the answer. Cane Patch Kitchen offers a variety of different fried seafood such as oysters, shrimp, catfish, and even alligator. The side dishes to name a few are baked macaroni and cheese, collards greens, and sweet potato frys and many more on the list. We went ahead and ordered the fried catfish combo which comes with one side and you can add another side for a small fee so we also went ahead and got the sweet potatoes frys and baked macaroni and cheese. The food was beautifully presented and the portion size was amazing! We ended up getting 3 nice sizes of fish and a generous scoop of macaroni and cheese with a heaping handful of crispy sweet potatoes frys! They even threw in butter grilled toast and ranch to compliment the frys and tartar sauce for the fish. The fish was fried golden brown and seasoned well. The batter wasn't crispy crispy but a nice thin layer of crisp. The fish was very succulent and juicy packing with flavor. The frys were nice sweet and crispy and paired well with the ranch. The macaroni and cheese had a nice flair to it garnished with thinly fined chopped green onions. The food was good and service was great and made me reminisce of my good Ole Mississippi day and trips to New Orleans for fried seafood platters. Definitely have this on my list again to come back and try the swamp frys or po-boys or maybe even the fried alligator.

Yelp
Extremely overpriced, poor tasting food, and portion sizes were awful. Service was quite slow.

Yelp
My experience was good but it wasn't great. The customer service was really good though. The worker helped my boyfriend and I with suggestions on what we could like or want to order. He was very patient with us. We decided on the Shrimp po Boy. Originally we thought it looked like a pretty thick sandwich. But it turned out that it was just the bread. The shrimp was a lot smaller than expected and was more breading than the actual shrimp. Rhe lettuce amount was a little too much in comparison to everything else as well. In regards to the price, I definitely don't think that it matches the price (approximately $18). I would go back and try something else on their menu but if I can't be guaranteed to have a good amount of good quality shrimp, I don't think I'll be getting the po boy again.
google avatar

Hinten M.

Yelp
Loved this! The lady who took my order was so nice. I got the swamp fries with the chicken sausage and shrimp. The flavor was AMAZING. GREAT cheese pull. Next time I'm going to try the jambalaya for sure.

Yelp
I really love the ambiance of Cane Patch kitchen. The woman up front was very sweet and healpful. They have plenty of readers food choice awards!

Yelp
Worst gumbo I've ever had. Very little shrimp. Not worth the money Do not get it. Poboy is decent

Yelp
This was actually our second time getting food from Cane Patch Kitchen, but I missed writing a review after our first visit. The menu is fairly straightforward - po' boy sandwiches, entrees of protein and offerings of gumbo or jambalaya. My husband kept changing his mind on what he wanted to get, but I knew I was going to order the shrimp po' boy. The hubs ended up with the catfish po' boy. We also ordered a side of regular fries to share. We waited quite a while to get our food. It gave us time to wander the market in search of beverages, but it was still over 25 minutes before the nice young man at the counter handed us our bag (apologizing profusely for the wait). It seemed they only had one person working the kitchen that day, and that person was very far behind. The number of customers waiting for their food was crazy. At any rate, the market was packed that day, so it was impossible to find a table to sit at (and I really wanted to snap at the people that were posted up at tables with no food or drink in sight. #rude) We made our way back to our car, which was parked under a tree and offered a suggestion of shade, to eat our meal. My sandwich was full of flavor, and the shrimp were perfectly cooked. The bread was both crispy and chewy, in all the right ways. The sandwich itself wasn't over-dressed with sauce or vegetables, and everything melded together really well. My husband said that his catfish po' boy was the best he's had, and he's including the ones we've eaten in New Orleans. It was the same for him - the catfish nuggets were perfectly seasoned and cooked, and the flavors worked well. The fries were surprisingly sad, compared to the artistry that went into the sandwiches. A small helping of crinkle cut fries, lightly seasoned and a bit undercooked. Still, we put a hurting on the fries, though I admit I didn't eat much given the size of the sandwich itself.
google avatar

Arpita G.

Yelp
Probably the worst food I have EVER had. I ordered a po'boy with vegan sausage. They gave our order to the wrong person and after 20 minutes realized they had to make us a new one. The bread wasn't even toasted, it was soggy. The sausage was cold. Everything was falling out the sandwich. 3 large overpowering dollops of BBQ sauce ruined the sandwich more. For a few pieces of cheap lettuce and tomatoes in a soggy sandwich bread, this was not worth my time or money at all. Save yourself and go elsewhere!
google avatar

Ronnie H.

Yelp
I ordered the jambalaya, and I added chicken to it along with a sweet tea. To be honest, the dish was so delicious that I would have been content even without the chicken! And, I must say, the customer service was outstanding. This has definitely become my new favorite!
google avatar

Soo H.

Yelp
Liberty Market has many eateries to try out.  I usually go to Latin Chef but they were not open yet so I visited Cane Patch Kitchen.   I tried the catfish basket.  Big fat steak fries had a little crispness on the outside while the inside was moist and full of potato flavor.  Looks like same type of fries at Red Robin except those are cooked less so they aren't as crunchy but they aren't dried out as Red Robin fries.  Nice fluffy potato flavor.  Catfish was tender inside, was moist and had a fresh flavor.  Batter had a little crunch to it and was heavily seasoned.  I would have preferred traditional corn meal batter.  The cajun style batter had stronger flavored seasoning than I like.   Took about 10 minutes to fry my order and the guy at the counter was nice.

Alex B.

Yelp
Good food small servings and 80$ for 2 meals of no drinks is crazyyyy I really wanted to love it but the small servings and not perfect flavor plus price did it for me it's nice if your craving soul food and someone else pays
google avatar

Yelp
First time visiting Liberty Station food court since the shutdown. Social distancing was promoted everywhere. Unfortunately not everyone is abiding by the warnings and rules which is truly sad for us who are! Cane Patch was above and beyond! Food was delicious. Customer service was great and food was served fresh and piping hot! I had the wings platter w/2 sides (collard greens & red beans and rice) all delish! My daughter ordered their fries and it was a great balance of flavor and proportion wise it was on point.
google avatar

Delana A.

Yelp
Located inside of the Liberty market, this little place is definitely worth your while! I looooove that their jambalaya comes vegetarian & you can add meat. I ordered it sans meat & also ordered the mac n cheese. It satisfied every craving of mine; the jambalaya is not spicy but it has a really great flavor . They have awesome customer service & have guidelines for social distancing :) Will definitely be returning!
google avatar

Lili T.

Yelp
Came here with my cousin and his wife for dinner one night so we could pick and choose what we wanted to eat! I spotted this place and was also recommended by my cousin! I got the small mac and cheese and added shrimp! It is a pretty good mac and cheese and I love the seasoning on the shrimp as well. The service is absolutely awesome and the gentleman behind the register was very knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. I will probably stop by here next time I'm in the area and try out another item!
google avatar

JJ W.

Yelp
Great restaurant with great food. Ordered the Swamp Fries with shrimp and it exceeded my expectations. Fries were fluffy and crisp, beans were flavorful, shrimp was perfect from the breading to the flavor, and the sauce tied everything together that had me wanting more. A nice warm meal to warm your heart. Great customer service as well and I only waited 10 minutes. Definitely will be coming back.

Andy C.

Yelp
Delicious but the pricing is way high. The Po'Boy I ordered was listed on the menu for $22. I picked catfish from the protein. When he rang it up the price was $26. I asked why and was told Catfish was higher. When I told him it doesn't say that on the menu I was pretty much ignored. $22 was bad enough but $26 for a sandwich!?
google avatar

Keila M.

Yelp
This place was pretty busy for midday Friday but I had to try it. I ordered the Swamp Fries with shrimp and a side of Mac n Cheese. It wasn't too long of a wait for my food, which was nice. The Swamp Fries were delicious! The fries weren't soggy and the shrimp was seasoned very well. I wasn't a fan of the Mac and cheese but there was a good flavor there, just a little dry and needed more cheese for me. I would definitely recommend this place!
google avatar

Yelp
Lively conversation about Louisiana and amazing readers choice awards! Exciting to try new food and was pleased to get a sugar fix with an amazing beignet
google avatar

Hacie S.

Yelp
10/10!!! Louisiana gal & the Poyboy is amazing! Love that they have jackfruit as a vegan option. So so good

Linh L.

Yelp
I come back one year later to see if it might've gotten better. Nope. Fried oysters were literally ALL batter. I don't think I got one single oyster in there. That was my fault for giving them another chance.. bummer
google avatar

Thomas C.

Yelp
The host paid specific attention to us. They offered suggestions based on order. And it was worth it. I got the jambalaya with host recommended shrimp. This was honestly the best food we got in all of Liberty Station. It was so tasty and even leftovers were amazing. I will def go back.

Yelp
This is a great place for Southern Comfort Food with family recipes passed down the generations. Come try the amazing food from this black owned small business! lordered: ~ Swamp Fries: steak fries, red beans, cheese, sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, & green onions. Jambalaya: "Our traditional jambalaya plate is so authentic and original. Made with love, passed down for many generations." Traditional rice and a tomato-based dish made with bell peppers, onion, corn, okra, and our own special blend of creole seasoning. You have the option of vegetarian, the classic w/ chicken andouille sausage & chicken breast, or a combo with chicken andouille sausage, chicken breast & shrimp. Red Beans & Rice: Red beans are slow-cooked with garlic, onion, bell pepper, and their very own house blend of creole seasonings. Served over white rice. § Beignets: A Creole delicacy, our homemade puffed pastry recipe is fried and covered with powdered sugar. Four beignets come in an order.

Yelp
Cane Patch Kitchen in Liberty Public Market serves DELICIOUS Creole soul food! They have classics like jambalaya, gumbo, po'boys and of course beignets. The French bread they use for their po'boys is so fresh and tasty, and you can choose from various sauces for the po'boys--I highly recommend the remoulade sauce! I could not stop eating the jambalaya--they use their own special blend of Creole seasoning that makes it super flavorful. Took some time to make our food but it was worth the wait!
google avatar

Yassenia E.

Yelp
Delicious! I've had the Po-boy (shrimp) several times and it never disappoints. They are shy with the amount of shrimp they add and they are always fried perfectly. Sweet tea is a MUST but the homemade lemonade was just the right amount of sweet!
google avatar

Chelsie O.

Yelp
Oyster PoBoy ! Worthhh it! I got the 2 house made sauces if I remember it was the hot sauce and some sort of creamy sauce.
google avatar

Phuong T.

Yelp
SUCH A RIP OFF! I ordered the Seafood Gumbo online and their options were Medium or Large. I picked the Medium for $12. The Medium size was pathetic. It was more like a side and served in a side dish container (similar to their side portion of mac n cheese) that was super small. Don't call the dish an "entree" if it's served as a side dish. $12 for such a small portion is a rip off. I've had better gumbo but it wasn't terrible. Suggestions to management: Either decrease the price for the "entree" to reflect portion size or provide a larger portion for the outrageous pricing for a side dish.
google avatar

Steve L.

Yelp
Unique spot inside of the Liberty Public Market. Great food and prices! Beignets are fire
google avatar

Caroline D.

Yelp
Staff was incredibly nice and sweet! However, the food was just.... sad. I ordered the gumbo and received a small cup of it. It unfortunately tasted like Souplantation's version of gumbo. It wasn't seasoned well with very little meat inside. I felt like I was mainly drinking bay leaf soup. My boyfriend ordered a po boy and while it was better than the gumbo, it was still very underwhelming. The best part of the po boy was probably the fresh fries and fresh was the only good work to describe them. I will likely not return.

Monica S.

Yelp
Can't wait to taste these scrumptious beignets. I'm sure the seafood gumbo is delicious and sure enough it's delicious

Yelp
Customer service was really bad, food took way too long to serve and they didn't have any soft drinks because they were out!....suggested that I could get the drinks from somewhere else.....how are they still in business with so many eateries around them?
