Phenomenal home made food with a very courteous staff. I had Fish tacos and Shrimp tacos. Absolutely delicious! My wife had the Asada Torta and 2 Popusas that were to die for. Definitely a family favorite already

Google
The pan dulce was delicious, beef tamale was good. We got 1/2 a dozen tamales and about 8 pan. Came out to about $30.

I ordered two red chile and one sweet tamales this past SAT. All three tamales were mostly maza. The amount of meat was miniscule and the sweet tamale had only one raisin. Both types had good flavoring but no actual substance. The tamales from Tamales Liliana's in ELA are much better and authentic. The tamale in the pic is the sweet, raisin tamale, just as I cut it open, do you see any raisins? I went to this place because I was too lazy to drive to Tamales Liliana's in ELA and I paid for it. Never coming here again.

This is a new place for my family & I. We really liked it. We tried the tamales, sweet bread & champurrado. The sweet bread had too much cinnamon, was a bit dry and it didn't taste fresh. However, the tamales and champurrado were on point 👌. We have yet to try the breakfast plates and other meal options. The panaderia set up is well organized, clean, tables and chairs are not crammed and free parking is available. We will definitely come back ☺

Google
The menudo is very good!! (Edited 2/11/23) Quality has come down, the flavor is not there anymore. It seems like they're cutting corners and missing ingredients on recipe plus the quality on the hand made tortillas and side veggies is bad.

Si ce my bakery closed down about 2 years ago. I've been coming here. It's great. I love freshness of the bread / cookies baked daily.

Google
Cancela Bakery is one of the most popular bakery restaurants in Montebello. Owned and operated by a Latina! Que orgullo. This is my go-to restaurant where I get my 🌄 cafecito, it's always fresh and hot. I feel welcomed every visit even after years of patronage. The local community supports this small business, and so should the tourists who visit the Montebello surrounding areas. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Found this place by a referral from a nearby bakery I visited today. I asked where I could find tamales? I remembered that Xmas season is high time for tamales and I was hoping to score some today. It's one of my husbands favorite food. There is very limited parking spots at the storefront which is located at a busy corner intersection. I decided I should try to park along the street and walk to the shop. Inside the shop, I was greeted nicely . There are some tables for dining in. Nothing fancy, but you can choose to eat here if you want to. There are many things to order besides tamales! They have burritos, tortas, combo plates, soups, tacos, tamales, drinks , pastries, cookies and specials of the day. The young lady at the counter was pleasant and waited patiently while I asked her a couple questions and then took my order. I got 1/2 dozen chicken(pollo) with green sauce ( verde). My order was ready in no time, about 5 minutes. My tamales were fresh and hot! I didn't really expect it to be. My husband got a nice treat when I got home. He eats it plain. Btw, the menu is in Spanish. My high school Spanish came in handy. Although the young miss who helped me spoke English. * FYI, I noticed after I paid that there are different prices for the items. It depends whether you pay cash or by credit card. It's about $ 0.32 less if you pay cash! I'll be stopping by here again, now that I know there's HOT tamales served here .

Yelp
I was recommended here to taste the chicken soup and it was Delicious ... they also carry other food items and drinks. The dining area is small but everyone there visiting including the staff were VERY polite and socially friendly. I didn't try any bakery items but will on my next visit.

Yelp
I came here for the first time and their food was amazing. I got an Asada burrito and a Champurrado. The salad burrito was so delicious and their hot sauce was amazing 100% recommended for a breakfast in the morning. Vine en la mañana por primera vez y agarré un burrito de asada con un champurrado y estaba delicioso 100% recomendado. Me vana a estar viendo muy seguido.

Yelp
This is a cute Mexican bakery that I had been to before. We were passing by and decided to try a tamale. I got the red pork and JJ got the green Chile and cheese (Rajas) ($2.50 each). I also love pan dulce, and got a concha, and JJ got a peanut butter cookie. Sadly, the pork tamale was extremely dry (the meat). The masa was good however, and flavorful. I did eat the whole thing though, but would definitely not recommend this and would never get it again. The pan dulce- concha was also very disappointing. It was a bit stale, and I wouldn't recommend this either. JJ however, enjoyed his green Chile and cheese tamale. He said it was good, but I didn't taste it. He also said the peanut butter cookie was good. I did taste this, and it was good. Very soft and crumbly..tasty overall. The interior has a few small tables where you can sit down and eat. Nice ambience. They also have their own parking lot. I wouldn't completely rule out Canela's Bakery, as there are some items that are good. You'd have to try it out for yourself if you happen to be in the area.

Yelp
In the years that I've been coming and having my daily meals, breakfast, lunch and dinners, I've never had a bad experience nor a bad time of service, especially when it comes to Lulu. She is the utmost and selfless server that this place has working where I just experienced her help out a incapacitated customer and showed the most gratitude seen... BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF SERVITUDE

Yelp
I was looking for a spot to eat menudo before dropping my vehicle to get it serviced for my upholstery in Montebello my old stopping grounds. I came by this bakery which I had tamales before but wanted menudo. Well the menudo comes in a plastic bowl which is did the job but the best part it was delicious. The young lady was courteous and the bakery about tables to seat and Mexican music in the background. Definitely cozy mom and pops spot parking is limited but but plenty on the street. Overall nice spot and definitely coming back to try the Mexican sweet bread and again very chill spot.

Eve R.

Yelp
Their tamales are the best taste that compares to my mom's but only needs to be spicy.
google avatar

Denise D.

Yelp
Love the avena from here. I also get the bollio with jalapeño and cream cheese, warmed up makes the perfect breakfast.
google avatar

Joanna B.

Yelp
The menudo is sooooo yummy! I got it to go, just called in and picked up and then they got me with the Mexican Coca Cola -- perfection!!! And all the employees are so nice!!

ART V.

Yelp
The tamales are good. Second time going to this place. I like the red ones and my Mom loved the corn ones. The Pan Dulce is ok but dry and hard. Maybe because they keep it on the trays instead of a glass closed cabinet.

Bruce A.

Yelp
We've been here a few times but this last time we got a few bakery items to bring home and after the first bite you can tell it was not fresh. We could taste the "refrigerator" taste. You know the taste, the taste and flavor of something sitting in a refrigerator so unfortunately we knew right away it was at least a day-old. But on another note, the girls working the front counter has always always been very nice and courteous.

Angela G.

Yelp
This is my favorite place to get champurrado! hands down! Haven't found a place that makes it like there's!! Period

Yelp
I had a disappointing experience at Canela bakery. They initially prepared my food incorrectly. I called them to make them aware my order was incorrect. I was asked to come back to have this issue, resolved once I arrived they took my food to fix it instead of offering a new, correct order. This approach made me feel uncomfortable and dissatisfied with the service. It would have been better if they had provided a fresh and accurate dish without any inconvenience. A person who appeared to be the owner came out and tried to argue with me about how my request asking for a new fresh, correct order was wrong of me. I explained that my request was the most rational thing to do. Why would you take the food back and put your business in a position where you're cross contaminating food that is going back into your kitchen. I will not be going back. It's unfortunate I gave them so much business. Over the past few years.

Joanna G.

Yelp
Si tienen ganas de rico Menudo deben probar el de aquí primero. Los tacos, champurrado, caldos el pan dulce, las especiales todo esta muy rico! El servicio de las cajeras es excelente vengan prueben no se van arrepentir.

Yelp
I'm a one-time customer. I went in for some sweet bread and when I tried to pull it apart to eat it the bread was hard as a rock. I'm not kidding. I took it back to the counter and showed the cashier. She was embarrassed and apologetically offered me another one. The second one was also too hard to eat. The sweet bread appeared to be days old. I'm not sure how many days it takes for bread to get that hard, but I'm guessing they were about a week old. The reason I gave this bakery 3 stars is because they also sell hot Mexican food. Their tacos were reasonably priced and tasted good. After my bad experience at Canela's I Googled a Mexican Bakery near me and it led me to Chapala's. The bread is so fresh and delicious there was actually a long line on a Monday afternoon. I couldn't believe it. So glad Google directed me there. Bottom line: I do NOT recommend Canela's for sweet bread.

Yelp
So far from home but always a great taste and visit ... Have tried over 8 dishes and always satisfied

Yelp
I had an early event to go to at CSUN and I had to pick up breakfast burritos for my colleague and I. Canela's is open at 6a.m. The service was great. The burritos and salsa were delicious. I picked a couple of tamales too! Canela's doesn't disappoint

Silvia R.

Yelp
Great Service, great food and really good prices. Food cooked to order. At times the radio too loud but other than that I recommend this place.
google avatar

Lucho V.

Yelp
Ordered food for pick up only. Tried their breakfast burritos and sweet bread. The bread can use improvement. Kind of stale. The burritos are fairly priced and tasty. I also ordered coffee and it's good. I will return to try other stuff.

Yelp
If you like to order your food with no onions. Please check before you go home. Now I have to separate all the meatfrom the onion. It never fails. I have to start checking from now on. Overall good food tho. My one star is because they don't pay attention to detailed orders.

Yelp
La comida muy rica, y la atención por teléfono muy buena, el pan está fresco y delicioso!!

Yelp
This has been my "secret" spot ever since they opened. The chili verde is always good and you can't go wrong with the homemade tortillas. I've gotten the costillas in salsa verde as well and i prefer the chili verde because of all the small bones in the costillas. Maybe the best kept secret is the carnitas. For 15.00/lb you get carnitas, homemade tortillas, pico de Gallo and beans. It's a really great deal! If you are in the mood for menudo, look no further. This place serves up a good bowl and it comes with their homemade tortillas. There are very few places that rivals my moms menudo, and this place is one of them. I took one star off because the tamales are just okay. When Canelas first opened up, they were the best around. Now you get a boatload of masa and very little meat. Still tasty but not what they used to be.

Yelp
This is a Montebello landmark with a real authentic Mexican Deli Restaurant & Bakery. Sweet attentive service and a fantastic menu! Love the menudo, super delicios enchiladas, my peraonal nopal ensalada for my diabetis is delicious. Girls are so pretty and very sweet. 5 Thumbs Up

Yelp
My coworker and I went to bakery for tamales on a Tuesday in March. The parking lot is small and lucky found a spot. We went inside and it is spacious with tables to sit inside and pastries and bread on other side. The menu is on the wall like a kid wrote it. We both ordered 3green tamales to test it since it was our first time there. I think the price was $1.60 or $1.80 something not sure. We took it back to work to eat it. They did a good job of steaming the tamale not dry at all. I could taste the green chili inside the tamale. I was impressed that I wished we ordered more tamales. They accept cash or credit card.

Yelp
You can't beat $2.50 for 2 Tacos and a drink! My roommate loves the pozole, I prefer the albondigas. all the soup is very good especially the Fideo. I love getting the enchiladas with the flour tortilla and green sauce. And they have the best homemade Horchata! Just make sure you go early they close anywhere from 4 to 6 o'clock

Yelp
They have great customer service but that's about it. I went over in Friday afternoon and had an assortment of breads for the whole family. The stale bread was a disappointment and my whole family ageeres that the taste was not great either (setting aside the staleness). I ordered all my bread from the window to ensure I got the most fresh items. I know I went late in the day but even if the items were baked at 4am that day, they shouldn't have been as stale as they were. Is it a storage problem or are they selling really old bread? Please note they have an assortment of breads prepackaged and you should avoid them. I looked at some of the bags and there was moldy bread in it. I'm not sure how old their bread is but it's definitely not fresh.

Yelp
We had a wonderful lunch at this bakery which included some hot foods as well as ice cream treats to go out. Everybody was safe and using their masks and the customer service was great!
google avatar

Yelp
Everything is good at this spot. From the pan dulce, to the food, you can't go wrong with anything. Their prices are fair too. Especially considering how other places have cut portions and passed on expenses to their customers.
google avatar

Ronnie A.

Yelp
Went here Sunday after Christmas and grabbed a few chicharron tamales. OMG THEY'RE ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! a little spicy but damn good! Will definitely be back for more.

Kat B.

Yelp
I found like a clothing tag inside my chilaquiles. Gross! Also the empanadas filling literally taste like plastic.
google avatar

BJ R.

Yelp
I went there yesterday for tacos and tamales !!!! Let me just say hands down Everything was delicious I will definitely come back
google avatar

Yelp
Their green chicken enchiladas are the best next to my grandmas. The staff was super sweet (Alex). I also bought three Mexican Cokes and tortillas. Great prices. I'll be going back this week.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped on my way to work. Ordered a Cafe de La Olla & an Elote tamale. Both were delicious. I'll definitely be coming back.

Yelp
My dad had brought us some pork tamales from this bakery not too long ago and they were so delicious. I came today to oder the tamales again and ordered an additional cheese tamales and tacos. Again, super delicious and great service!

Martha L.

Yelp
Great food, great customer service and good prices. Menudo is very good. Great for breakfast.

Yelp
I start by saying haters are going to hate because of the negative reviews posted to this place but I went to try myself and let me tell you. Great customer service by the twin young college ladies. The place is super clean. The bread is warm and yes fresh made there. The menudo is bomb good well served even with fresh made tortillas. The birria de chivo has delicious taste no chivo smell and well served also with fresh made tortillas. The chilakiles rojos very good my oldest loved them. The corn tamal is good not fake sweet.
google avatar

Melinda M.

Yelp
Delicious food and retire! Everything we've ordered is so tasteful delicious you got a try it!
google avatar

Leticia M.

Yelp
Nasty food! Tamales had no meat and dry masa, old tamales. The pastries were hard, tasteless and old. I will never go there again!
google avatar

j. r.

Yelp
I don't know about the bread, i havent tried it yet, but i saw Chilaquiles on the menu and i had to try them. I have been searching for the best chilaquiles for a long time, but i had not found a good spot. I think i just found my spot, the plate comes with rice, beans and eggs, the chillaquiles taste like fresh toasted tortillas, not like packaged corn chips, you can order red or green sauce, i decided to order the green sauce. They were a little spicy ( which I liked), but the flavor was oustanding! It also had queso fresco on top which i only see that in Jalisco. I have now found the best chilaquile spot! The negative: the place is small, they only have two small tables, and its kind of akward to eat there, i suggest getting them to go. I will try some more items and write a follow up review.

Juan R.

Yelp
Chicken tamales are fantastic with their green sauce. They have a two taco and drink special for $2.75! Tacos are good for the price for sure..... Oh and the pozole is fire too.

Entesar A.

Yelp
I love everything they make. I think they make the best pastries and canela in San Diego. Online ordering is convenient. And, the owners are wonderful.
google avatar

Yelp
So Delicious! There is a Mom or Grandma cooking in that Kitchen. Highly recommend this place! Blessings to Canela Bakery hoping soon to be Canela Restaurant
google avatar

Heather L.

Yelp
Was trying to find a good tamale place for my grandma as she cannot eat spicy food. These tamales are not spicy but are full of flavor. We tried the beef, pork, chicken and cheese and none of them lacked flavor. They pack the tamales with good portions of meat and the masa is moist and flavorful. The cheese tamale could have more cheese but it is packed with chilies and onion-lots of flavor. We even bought some fresh cookies and they were nice n soft. The young girl at the front is very nice. She washes her hands after every transaction which is greatly appreciated. We have gone twice and will definitely be going back.

Marilu L.

Yelp
Muy limpio, sano y rico! La comida es como de casa. Me gustan sus desayunos y caldos.
google avatar

Yelp
Wife likes tamales, said masa was good and plenty of tasty shredded beef. Cheese tamales had good amount of cheese and slight heat frim chiles. She too enjoyed the menudo with lots of tripe (no bones as requested) and fair amount of hominy.

Patty L.

Yelp
I really like this Mexican Bakery and Restaurant! Their breads are tasty; champurado is pretty good, burritos and tamales are better than most nearby restaurants and offer a great variety of flavors. They recently added pupusas but haven't tried them yet. Love their menudo. Also offer good selection of many other typical Mexican favorites like tacos, enchiladas, steak sandwiches on French bread, and lots more I've yet to try. They provide delicious hand made fresh corn tortillas with many of their soup dishes. Great food for a decent price!
google avatar

Leticia F.

Yelp
Green cheese tamales are very good, you could tell they are fresh out of the pot on Saturday mornings!

Maria C.

Yelp
Only my second time in this place. Came in last week and ordered a bunch of tamales and some champurrado to try out - everything was so delicious!! The tamales were moist and flavorful and the masa to filling ratio is terrific. So I'm back today to order our Christmas tamales but I just couldn't leave without getting myself a chile relleno burrito - which was also great by the way - definitely my new go to place for chili relleno burritos! The only thing missing was some salsa to go with it.

Yelp
What a great addition to the neighborhood! It's conveniently located on my way to work so I've gotten pan dulce and breakfast burritos for myself and my coworkers. The conchae are delicious. Soft and fresh. The calabasas empanadas had a good flavor, but too dry. My favorite right now is a tie between the chiccharones tamale and the nopales con huevo burrito. Very tasty and so flavorful. The staff is super friendly and the place is COVID clean with social distancing guidelines. Support our neighborhood businesses. I hope you will like them as much as my family and I do! Yes
