Part deli, part ravioli factory since 1929, Canevari’s is woven into Santa Rosa’s Italian‑American story. Featured by Sonoma Magazine in 2025, it serves hot plates, take‑and‑bake lasagna, and the house ravioli that generations grew up on—simple, soulful, and local.

stopped by this sandwich shop expecting a quick meal, but the customer service completely ruined the experience. The staff were rude, unprofessional, and acted as if helping customers was a burden. My order was taken carelessly, and instead of correcting their mistake, they made excuses and gave me attitude. The wait was far longer than it should have been, and when I finally got my food, it was poorly made. No apology, no effort to make things right. A simple sandwich shouldn’t come with so much stress. If you value good service and respect as a customer, this is not the place to go. Definitely not worth the money or the frustration.

I came on Tuesday, so I had to get a Tuesday special — Chicken parmesan sandwich. The sandwich tasted good, the chicken was tender, and the cheese was stretchy and delicious. The garlic bread was also tasty. However, I couldn't get rid of the feeling that the sandwich was missing something fresh, like tomato or lettuce. The service was good, but not outstanding. The interior looked nice, but has limited seating and can get busy very quickly. Plus, in my opinion, it's a little overpriced. 3.5 stars for sure.

I ordered the meat ravioli and unfortunately it came out very doughy. I returned to the restaurant with the dish and the owner noticed me right away. He came over, asked what the problem was, and personally checked the ravioli. He offered to make another order and even had me try one before serving, but it was still not quite right. The owner then offered to make me whatever I wanted, but since I was short on time I opted for the spaghetti with a meatball. He also suggested that I request a refund through DoorDash since that is how I had originally placed my order. He did not charge me for the replacement meal and even included a dessert at no cost. Although my first dish was disappointing, I was very impressed with the way the owner handled the situation. He was attentive, professional, and genuinely cared about making things right. The spaghetti and meatball were tasty and the free dessert was a thoughtful gesture. I left feeling appreciated as a customer and will definitely give this place another try. I recommend this restaurant not only for the food but also for the excellent customer service.

This is their Italian Sub. OK but not great. Plenty of meat, has thin sliced red onion and pepperoncini. The bread was dry. I went to order, it's $17, and expected $3 back from my $20. The employee says let's see what it comes to with tax and... So sales tax and something else? What is that something else on top of sales tax??? Sales tax is a full 10% so would have been $1.70. So I said to him, on a cold sandwich to go there is no sales tax. He kept screwing around playing with the payment terminal for a while. He finally said that since I was paying cash it would be a "flat $17." So he disrespected or disregarded my comment about a cold sandwich to go being non-taxable and instead decided there would be no tax added only because I was paying cash. So I did get $3 change. How do you figure it would be doing a customer a favor to collect an extra $1.70 in tax when it is not even owed on a cold food item? The owner happened to be there sitting at a table. I said to him, you should tell your employees there is no tax on cold sandwiches to go. He replied to me, "It's the government."

This was my first visit and the sandwiches were incredible! I had the spicy chicken pesto. It was warm and I will be dreaming about it tonight! Service was top-notch! Can't wait to come back and try everything on the menu!

Google
We ordered spaghetti with meatball, meat ravioli, a chopped salad, and an italian sandwich. The salad and sandwich were phenomenal, but sadly, the ravioli's texture was too soft—they had a very mushy mouth feel and broke apart too easily. The spaghetti also fell short. The marinara sauce had a noticeable tartness and some parts of it were watery. While the other items were excellent, the pasta dishes were unfortunately disappointing.

A Wonderful family owned Italian Deli! A local gem. Yummy sandwiches to eat in or take away. Homemade pastas with homemade sauces. The homemade Lasagna makes my mouth water just thinking about it. A Must Try!

Google
I rarely do reviews, but I had to come on here to say: I had a chicken panini sandwich from this restaurant last Saturday. I swapped the pesto for mayo and I’ve been craving it ever since. The bread is so fresh, the protein, veggie and condiments ratio is perfect! This has to be the best place to stop and grab a meal in between wine tasting! It’s really clean. The customer service is superb and their chips are sooo delicious! Let me say this again, the sandwich hits perfectly and tasted like it was made with love.

Yelp
This is of my favorite deli everything I have eaten Here is absolutely delicious. I am absolutely hooked on the Italian sub the homemade potato chips, even the deviled eggs are to die for, the meatball sub the chicken Panini I could go on and on love this place.

Yelp
Ohhh my word! As we walked up I could SMELL the sweet and savory aroma of a traditional Italian household! It truly reminded me of my friends house when I was younger, and his mom and aunt were always cooking delicious scrumptious things in the kitchen!! As we walked in the place was actually full, and there were a couple people in line which was perfect for us because we had no idea what we wanted besides food. Lol. As we went up to order this nice older lady told us about the specials and I was sold on the chicken Panini with pesto, but I wanted to add some lettuce to make myself feel better. Lol online someone posted about chicken Parmesan sandwich, but I didn't see it on the menu. My husband ordered the ravioli and added a five dollar meatball with red sauce. I also saw this square container of chips and she said they were freshly made that morning. I had to try those even though it didn't really go with his meal, but it definitely went with my sandwich! We sat outside on their cute little picnic benches in a nice shaded area and you could smell all the delicious food as it was coming in and out of the front door! I truly loved the homestyle decor and inside it was actually pretty cool since they had AC on , so the outdoor and fresh air was better for me. As our food came out on cute little reusable metal trays, it smelled delicious!! The chips were so thin and lightly crisp and had so much flavor. I literally went back and bought some veggie ravioli in the frozen pack and the marinara sauce for home!! I also bought a box of chips for my son because he is super picky and I know he would love these Italian homemade chips! If you want some authentic Italian food definitely come here to this cute little mom and Pop shop!! I will definitely be back. The chips are to die for and I should've bought two boxes!! I definitely need to check out their dessert! I am a sucker for tiramisu, but I was honestly so full for my sandwich. I couldn't put anything else in the car otherwise I'd eat it on the way home! thank goodness my son's ravioli were frozen or I might've ate that before we got home. Hee

Yelp
Without a doubt the meatball sub is amazing! Excellent flavor, tomato, and the meatballs are cooked just right. The bread is really light and soft and that makes for an outstanding sandwich. The cheese melts and easily balances everything. The crunchy onions on top provide the perfect context. My only issue is that one sub at $20 didn't do enough to filling my stomach. Sub shops are my goto and typically zero issues whatsoever feeling more than full from them. I gotta say that's where Canevari's falls short for me. Would I go back again? Yes. I just need to be prepared to eat a bit less than I'd normally expect. Meatball sub: 7.7/10.

Yelp
Everyone who works here is super nice. Order at the counter and they bring the food to you. They have excellent sandwiches all made to order. Choose one off the menu or fill out a form for a custom sandwich. They also have lasagna and ravioli. The flavors change every few days. Desserts are also excellent and change every few days. I got the Caprese sandwich last time and again this time because it's that good. Only available in late summer when the tomatoes are at their peak. My hubby loved the tri tip sammie. The pistachio cake and chocolate cheesecake were both so yummy and satisfying. The deli is clean but small. You can sit inside, outside or take it to go. We will be back next time we're in town.

Yelp
Canevari's catered my kids' birthday party and the food was the star of the show! Everyone kept asking who provided the catering. Aside from delicious food, I found the whole process so incredibly easy and delightful, from responding to a relatively short notice request, to delivering outside of their usual schedule, everything was seamless, and really customer service oriented. All dietary restrictions were accommodated, and everything just went so smoothly. My guests were thrilled and so was I. We will be repeat customers for future catering needs!

Yelp
This is the best Spicy Pulled Pork sandwich I've ever had. The heat level is just right and the coleslaw adds the perfect crunch. Every time we drive through Santa Rosa, we make a point to stop here (however they are closed on Sundays). Highly recommended!

Yelp
Always a home run here!!! Everything is delicious from the fresh to frozen take home raviolis! People there are always kind and friendly! I love their meatball sando as well as the Caprese, they are very kind to make the caprese when it's not heirloom season for me, I appreciate it! Best Motz and bread around too!! it feels like your in a deli in Italy! Husband LOVES the Italian sub! We are yet to try the chicken parm but I know it's good because they sell out quick! Don't skip the potato salad or homemade chips! I always leave with a few containers of the chips, perfectly seasoned and love the thin crisp! I and also great points system!! Love you Canevari's!!!

Yelp
Been coming here for a few years now, just for the ravioli. The cheese ravs are the best we've found in the area. They also have a meat ravs stuffed with beef and pork, but we're partial to the cheese. They do other fillings like lobster too, but I'm such a purist, I never deviate. This little family owned deli does sandwichs and pasta dishes. You can get sauce to go by the quart, and they have a modest dried good section with some nice pastas and spreads. The service has never been anything but friendly and prompt. Just a handful of tables for dining in. Go support a local family business! Take home a box of ravs and make dinner super easy tonight.

Yelp
Tried Canevari's on our way to the Snoopy Museum. The daily special was the Cubano Italiano, they weren't kidding when they warned me it was spicy, but I would absolutely do this one again! My wife doesn't care for spicy, so she had the Chicken Panini and her eyes lit up on the first bite. The house made chips were another hit. I wish we had more time in town to try more of their selection! If we lived in town this would be a regular stop for sandwiches and the takeaway foods they had in the cooler.

Yelp
Canevari's is a solid choice for your Italian deli fix. Ambiance is great (except parking can get tricky!). The updated storefront is super welcoming. Service is always great. The food: - Italian with muffuletta is my go-to. - Cubano Italiano and Chicken Parm sandwiches are notable mentions, too - Ravioli with BOTH sauces is a must try - Tiramisu and pistachio cake are to die for
google avatar

Korva G.

Yelp
Love that Lou is almost always behind the counter! Good solid Italian offerings with lots of specials. Go check em out tonight!

Yelp
Oh my goodness. This place is awesome! After a day at the lake, my boyfriend and I decided to go here for some sandwiches. I got the Tri Tip while he got the Gabagool. Loved the addition of the tomatoes in my Tri Tip sandwich. It definitely left me full for the rest of the day. Absolutely delicious! My boyfriend really enjoyed the Gabagool! Service was helpful and very outgoing. Loved how casual it was inside. There's lots of seating outdoors as well. Reminds me of home, very welcoming. Next time I'd definitely want to try their pasta and their desserts. 5/5

Yelp
It's been way too long since we've been here. Was craving cannolis and this is my favorite place for them. These delectable beauties are made to order. Crispy, creamy, chocolatey and citrusy goodness. There were some families enjoying dinner inside. Will be back for pasta next time.

Yelp
We found this great deli on the way back to SF from Calistoga. Excellent Italian sandwiches and fresh pastas- tritip sandwich and the Reuben were so delicious and great customer service too! Highly recommend!

Yelp
"The" Italian deli in Santa Rosa. This deli has almost been in business for 100 years. This is the only place I buy cannoli from. They are light and crispy with orange chocolate chip sweet ricotta filling. If you're planning on cannoli for x-mas eve place an order in advance. They are slammed with orders to fill. Their fresh frozen ravioli are absolutely delicious. They offer several varieties along with sauces. I consistently buy them. Their deli counter has a large variety of sandwiches including some Italian classics and a daily special. The deli has a small indoor seating area and some picnic benches outside. Lunch time is super busy, but they get the sandwiches made quickly. I've eaten there and have taken orders to go. Owner and staff are friendly. Great place. Mangia!
google avatar

Joyce U.

Yelp
Friendly staff, and their ravioli are the best, tender and full of flavor. I especially love the portobello mushroom paired with the roasted garlic sauce.
google avatar

Yelp
Hands down one of the BEST meatball subs we've ever had. Fast, friendly service too. We love the idea that they have house made raviolis and sauces frozen to take home. This little family owned business hasn't seen the last of us:)
google avatar

Yelp
Open WIDE - this my friends is an Italian sub - added muffalatta! yum. Lots of other wonderful items to try
google avatar

Gigi G.

Yelp
This place makes some of the best sandwiches I've ever experienced--and that's a high bar. Recently tried the daily special, the grilled porchetta sandwich and it was outstanding. My partner had the California with turkey--also fantastic. In addition to great quality sandwiches, the people are nice, the location convenient, and they offer a pretty awesome selection of authentic Italian party items along with house-made raviolis, lasagnas, sauces, cannoli, etc. Seriously this place deserves a medal. I've lived in the Bay Area 20+ years, spending lots of time in Santa Rosa, and am literally kicking myself for only recently stepping into Canevari's. All these years, I could have been coming here. I have a lot of sandwiching to catch up on.
google avatar

Valerie D.

Yelp
This was a delicious filling sandwich. The Cubano Italiano was just as described. It is a little messy, but delivered with strong napkins. It was a special, so if it is available it is worth it.
google avatar

Yelp
This is another place which I can't believe it took me so long to review, but then it had also taken us a while actually to get her in the first place. Anyway, this is a great local deli. They make sandwiches, homemade ravioli and pasta sauces, tiramisu, their own homemade potato chips, and more. The traditional meat/veal ravioli and mushroom/portobello ravioli are excellent and family favourites. I love the lamb ravioli also, but my wife is not too keen on them. These are small, old-fashioned ravioli. The pasta has great texture, the fillings excellent, and there's a nice ratio. 5 stars overall for these, but we have not tired all the different ones. Sauces we have mixed views on. The standard marinara is excellent, with a nice full tomato flavour. We do, however, add a touch of butter plus a dash of salt, and of course parmesan, but otherwise this is excellent and makes at least a great base to modify slightly as you see fit. 5 stars. The lamb sauce is good, but it is a touch spicy. The sage or herb butter sauce is just ok. We got it once and won't get it again. It is very thick and heavy, not like what we were expecting or wanted. It is thick and very heavy, and rather one-dimensional. We had wanted and, from the name, expected, more of a light actual butter with seasoning, but it is thick with cream, etc. 2.5 stars. Homemade tiramisu is excellent, as are their potato chips. It also get points for the business itself, as a great local deli making ravioli and more, plus the place is nicely touched up inside now with tile and an old-fashioned charm. Service is also excellent and friendly.
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
You have to wait, and it's all a bit disorganized but everything is delicious. People are friendly and portions are so generous. My cannelloni was so good. The crepe wrapper was so tender. I had bites of the sub sandwich and the Saturday special sandwich and both were spectacular. Cannoli were filled to order and perfumed with orange. Worth a trip to Santa Rosa just to get a juicy good lunch.
google avatar

Pauline B.

Yelp
For decades my Italian family bought our ravioli only from Canevari's: Vegetarian. We put the meat in the sauce. They are the best. I also had a chicken sandwich that was excellent-can't remember the exact name. Maybe Chicken Piadine?? So good.
google avatar

Kate M.

Yelp
Amazing deli! Lou is awesome, sandwiches are awesome, everything is 10/10! You can't go wrong at Canevari's
google avatar

Cole D.

Yelp
Cool looking spot. Sandwich I got was mid. Gave it a shot while passing through. Won't stop again.
google avatar

Jenna M.

Yelp
Canevari's is a delicious, authentic deli with old school Italian vibes. It is a go-to in Santa Rosa for fresh sandwiches and other items like homemade chips, canned olives and cheesecakes. Nothing beats a good, meaty sando on a warm day, especially when served with a smile.
google avatar

Shannon J.

Yelp
I went a couple of weeks ago and had anazing sandwiches. Loved the veggie sandwich. So then recently I ordered lasagna and the chopped salad with garlic bread. And I got the tiramisu. Soooo good. The lasagna sauce flavor is fabulous. The tiramisu is insane. Insane.

Judith R.

Yelp
Sandwiches are really delicious, but expensive. Very small and no real ambiance. Mainly just best for take-out.
google avatar

Dominique B.

Yelp
This is a restaurant that provides very decent and authentic Italian family style food offerings It has a homey and welcome atmosphere The food is also very good They have a drinks cooler and also plentiful desserts
google avatar

Lynn L.

Yelp
Got to go back to Canevari yesterday for lunch. While my food-averse mother-in-law at some toast she brought from home, I had a meatball sub (yum), got garlic bread and lasagna to take home, and a pint of their AMAZING shrimp and corn chowder, which I saved for lunch today! They do not skimp on spice and flavor and it was all soooo delicious. I wish I could move to SR just to eat here more often. Also, I just love the family who runs it. Jovial and treats everyone like they are regulars. It's amazing.
google avatar

Brent F.

Yelp
Came across this place by chance and happy I found it. Tried the meatball sandwich and it was great, also got a cannoli and really liked that too. Great option if you are in the area but there may be a line although it seemed to move quickly. Will have to go back and try some other things in the future and definitely a great lunch option in Santa Rosa if you are local or visiting.
google avatar

Ryan G.

Yelp
Amazing food! The staff are so nice and helpful. We had the meatball sandwich, deviled eggs, homemade chips and a connoli for dessert. All really good and fresh. Small table seating inside and on a nice day you can sit outside at the picnic tables. Clearly it is a locals place, but they treat the outsiders equally well. Definitely will be back!
google avatar

David N.

Yelp
Excellent meatball sandwich and turkey & cheese sandwich! The owner states on Yelp that he wants to "make Canevari's the best, and most affordable Italian food in Sonoma County". I realize that operating expenses and food costs are up lately, but I would hardly call $42 for two sandwiches and one can of soda "affordable". I also wish their health department scores showed more focus and concern about food safety and cleanliness.
google avatar

Bella S.

Yelp
Service was friendly and fast. Came in at a good time on a Friday late 4ish, no lines and being cold and rainy. This place reminds me of a soprano deli, delicious food and tucked away in a neighborhood. Everything is good here and fresh. Decent prices too.
google avatar

Heather F.

Yelp
The food here is exceptional every time. I love the family atmosphere and that the owner knows most of his customers by name. This is a true neighborhood gem!
google avatar

Lynn S.

Yelp
Great authentic deli. Very nice and helpful staff. Will be back to try other offerings. It smells so good and take out is so easy
google avatar

Helen K.

Yelp
Haven't been here for years and remembered it when my friend was talking about driving to Berkeley to buy raviolis to cook. We stopped here for lunch and I remembered all of the things that I loved about this place. It has the feel of the New York delis of my youth. I had the cheese ravioli with marinara sauce and my friend had the polenta. Both came with delicious garlic bread. The ravioli was good but a little overcooked, the polenta was tasty but tasted more like a cheesy dip than polenta. The staff is really friendly and it is a busy place for freshly made sandwiches to order plus prepared items to take home. Be sure not to miss the sign outside with the daily specials.
google avatar

Sherri B.

Yelp
Got their family meal for dinner: Tri-tip, cheese ravioli with pesto, and garlic bread. Added a family Caesar salad. Everything was delicious. I was impressed with the care in preparation, especially the tri-tip: was undercooked so as not to get overcooked upon re-heating. First time there, would definitely go back!
google avatar

Stacy R.

Yelp
We were looking for someplace to grab a quick sandwich to share. This place was so highly recommended we went for it! Everything was so fresh and delicious. We absolutely loved everything about this place! We were in town from out of town and didn't have a cooler, but if we did we would have stocked up on the homemade raviolis and garlic bread! Smelled amazing!!
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Still solid to stop by. Tried a few other things this time, and had to stop by after reading about the renovations. Service was helpful with any questions, giving advice where needed. We had gotten the meatball sandwich, a gabagool, spinach risotto, and some cheese cakes to boot. Everything tasted good. Compatriot remarked it's probably one of the best meatballs she's ever had, and the pepperoncinis were spot on in the sandwich. The spinach risotto had a nice richness to it, probably didn't even really need the bacon honestly. Was definitely a good stop again, but will have to check out the chicken parmesan another time I'm in.
google avatar

Yelp
Unbelievable neighborhood gem near Fountaingrove in Santa Rosa. All of the food is made in house and is excellent. We shared the mushroom polenta with a meatball. Delicious and savory... no skimping on the cream nor cheese. We grabbed the lamb ravioli and pesto to go...for dinner later. The staff is super friendly and neighborly. The interior is remodeled and feels fresh. The parking is a bit funky but serviceable. Check out their market as well.

Pat M.

Yelp
The food at Canevari's is pure comfort, and the service is as fast as humanly possible, given the lunch rush crowd. Like "Cheers," when you're a regular, everybody knows your name. Try the pulled pork sandwich with fennel slaw to experience some deliciously balanced flavors.
google avatar

Michaela C.

Yelp
When you walk in it's super clean staffs super helpful and welcoming. God father themed with shirts that say take the cannoli (super cute, we did) There's a bit of tables so enough room. Pretty busy, there's signs that say specials and valentines dinner deals thought that was pretty cute. They make fresh cannolis when you ask. Sammys looked big and full I don't think they jiffed on anything They also serve a meat called gabagool totally reminds me of The Office with Michael
google avatar

Marjorie S.

Yelp
Take out (raviolis) was efficient, affordable, and delicious! Salad was very generous.

Will H.

Yelp
If I had to choose a last meal, I'm getting it delivered. Been going here for years and it's never disappointed. Chicken Panini, Meatball Sub, Italian Cheesesteak, Gabagool. Don't even get me started on the Tiramisu.
google avatar

Oliver W.

Yelp
The sandwiches are delicious. Highly recommend their chicken parm sando special on Wednesday. The inside was redone a few years ago. Way nicer ambience if you wish to dine in. Canevaris is a 10/10
google avatar

Sophia N.

Yelp
This little hole in the wall is one of our favorite places. They have fantastic ravioli and their sandwiches are huge. I think the chicken panini is my favorite. The lasagna has the most meat I have ever had in a lasagna and we can't forget about the desserts! Do not sleep on that pistachio ricotta cake. It is so delicious. If you haven't tried it, you are absolutely missing out.
