"Cannon Beach Hardware, lovingly called the Screw & Brew, unites salty regulars with weekenders, elbow-to-elbow along the bar. As possibly the only business in Oregon offering hammers and nails, draft beers and cocktails, halibut ceviche and knockout salads and sandwiches, this combo hardware store and restaurant has become a quintessential gathering spot. A basket of prawns and chips or a patty melt goes well with a side of tots, especially while eavesdropping on some local gossip or advice about building decks." - Alli Fodor, Jennifer Burns Bright

For all the hype that I heard about this place, I was disappointed in what we got. The food was bland and really oily. We tried the calamari and fish and chips; neither dish had much seasoning (if any) and the breading around the fish felt almost as thick as the fish itself! Staff seemed rushed and uninterested in the work, and we were largely ignored throughout our time. The location/style of the restaurant is unique and pretty cool, but unless you need some actual hardware I’d look elsewhere for food.

Google
Unique setting.. hardware store turned into restaurant . 5 stars for food.. the customer service was a bit weird. It felt a little bit rushed. We were sat 5 steps away from the bathroom which isn’t really ideal when you’re trying to enjoy your meal. There was no wait and three other tables free and available. The gentleman who was serving us put the receipt on the table halfway through our meal and reminded us twice to put a card down and sign the receipt .. again there was nobody waiting and no lunch rush - overall weird customer service experience but the food was absolutely delicious. Halibut, fish, sticks, and halibut brioche burger were amazing.

Google
Meh. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. The halibut burger was good, even though I couldn't tell if it was really halibut. The place doesn't serve dessert. Why? The server didn't know and didn't have a suggestion as to where we might get a good dessert. Like I said, meh.

Google
One of the unique places to eat in Cannon Beach with a hardware store and public house. I reviewed the menu after a short wait for table and ordered a halibut burger with tater tots. The menu has appetizers, salads, burgers, and sandwich entrees such as black bean, chicken, meatloaf with fish and chip options. The entrees are served with potato chips that can be upgraded to a number of options including fries, tater tots, and salad. I received my order in about fifteen minutes with a nice amount of tater tots. The grilled halibut was served on a bun without sauce and it had good taste to it. The tater tots were crispy and not greasy. Located in Midtown Cannon Beach on South Hemlock Street next to Sleepy Monk Coffee and the public parking lot. A nice place to stop for lunch with a number of options such as pastrami, and Buffalo Chicken, beer and wine with friendly service in a hardware setting.

Google
Awesome time-machine dining experience! Enjoyed our 'ride' in the aircraft seating. The Very Good Fries are quite good. Beer was excellent.

Google
Good atmosphere and quick walk from the beach. The fried fish sandwich was delicious, and the salad was huge. My 2 issues were that it was pretty expensive overall ($24 for a sandwich and fries), and there was a $14 upcharge for the shrimp on the salad which wouldn't be that bad except it only included 4 shrimp. $3.50 per shrimp seems a bit insane to me.

Google
Actually did the attatched bar, signs says adult area only and that was obvious with the language and atmosphere. Not really our thing but if that is you...then go for it. Ordered fries....40 mins later asked about them and they forgot to send the order up. Oh well...drinks are good as well.

Google
I’m not a big seafood guy, but the fish (Pacific Halibut) looked good so I decided to try this place. With no fishy taste it was the best fish I’ve had in a long time 😃

Robert W.

Yelp
If you don't stop here for food you're really missing out. So cool that they converted part of store for food. Winner. All around. Had the daily special cheesesteak. It was a home run. Menu is funny and the drinks looked so good but it was AM. Bloody Mary would be a go to. Wings were top notch too! Go here don't waste your time anywhere else.

Yelp
We checked into our hotel and then went to look for some food. Found this 'restaurant' across the street. Not only do they serve food...but they also sell tools, beach stuff, toys, and camping gear. The fish and chips were really good, the staff were super nice, and best of all they played island reggae. Would definitely come back again...

Yelp
I didn't have super high expectations given the location in the heart of a beach town, but CBH was a pleasant surprise! We came in on Monday night, on the cusp of the Summer season about to start. It was busier than I thought it would be, but we snagged the one open table. The wait staff were very attentive and friendly, noticing immediately that I had been given the wrong salad dressing as she was setting the plate down and bringing me a replacement. We weren't very hungry so we ordered salads with shrimp (me) and halibut. I ordered a small salad, which was still pretty generous. My four prawns were juicy and fresh, and my ginger soy dressing was great. We couldn't resist fries and the ones that arrived were hot, crisp and frankly perfect. Prices aren't cheap, which is to be expected at the beach, and our table was a bit sticky (but nothing was visible). Pretty minor for an otherwise novel dining experience in a hardware store with pretty decent food and great service.

Yelp
We had been recommended by a local so decided to have dinner with my family and i was absolutely disappointed with our visit. The food was decent nothing special everyone got fish & chips and a plate of chicken tenders we ended up paying 185$ for our visit(5 of us total). Our waiter was a little sassy and seemed bothered with us being there which made the whole dinning experience sour. When our plates were served we were given what seemed like a jello shot and much to our surprise was ketchup that was jelly. towards the ends we just ate, paid and left but overall we will not be back after this experience.

Ploy N.

Yelp
What a unique store, half hardware shop and half restaurant. They got a few seats inside but plenty of benches outside. The ambience was pretty cozy. We got the Meatloaf Sandwich and Ahi Salad to share. They offer a good mix of run of the mill bar food like tots and sandwiches and fancier seafood options. We loved both dishes that we got. They're freshly made and used great ingredients. The Meatloaf Sandwich was full of gooey cheese and the sourdough bread was toasted to perfection. Meanwhile, the Ahi Salad was refreshing with greens, tender sesame tuna, and umami vinegarette.

Yelp
In for an overnight. Nice hotel room with fireplace. Downpour freezing rain. Called in our order and drove here to pick up our two entrees of chicken wings to watch the NBA playoffs. 8 wings per order for $45 + . They taste good but dudes and dudettes? $18.00 per order of 8 wings? GTFO Soft mushy veggies. Watery blue cheese. Trying to say something positive. What a blatant rip off Edit: hahaha. Not even 8 wings in our boxes. So funny. No bueno. Don't mention forced %18 tip for takeout on top of $1.40 box fee

Yelp
I was craving a burger after a hike. Came upon this location- parked in lot that was very nearby which was conveniently located. Was seated immediately outside and enjoyed the music. Service was great! Had a regular cheeseburger and with spicy tots. Really good burger- i appreciated the amount of pickles, lettuce and tomato that was on the side. Even had a side of ranch. The tots weren't spicy, but really crisp. Had a draft strawberry lemon cider. Overall really great and would come back!

Michael M.

Yelp
Quaint little hardware store and restaurant! The chicken wings are said to be the best in Cannon Beach and they were right! Service was excellent and warm. Cozy atmosphere and comfortable seating made the experience even better. Highly recommend this business to shop and eat!

Jen Z.

Yelp
Good. Grilled cheese, burgers, halibut sandwich. Nothing that amazing. We got there before 5pm to avoid a huge wait. We had a couple draft beverages. Would go again based on location.

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Labor day weekend and this place was bustling with people! We were lucky to get a spot. The menu had a lot of good options and the service was quick despite all the groups they had to tend to. The food was delicious, everything tasted great. Fish & Chips were beyond good and the salad dressing for the garden salad that they make in house was top notch. Unfortunately, the prices were the only thing that had us scratching our heads. It makes sense that with few food options in this touristy town that establishments get away with high prices but we were baffled. Over $26 for fish and chips?! Small garden salad with chicken $20+?! I don't know- it felt kind of crazy to us. Especially because I was hungry an hour later. The ambience was cool, fun to explore the hardware shop and all the staff were super courteous. Probably some of the best eats in the area but prepare to empty out your wallet for basic recipes.

Hanah L.

Yelp
Stopped by here for lunch! It's a cute little bar & restaurant that is also attached to a hardware store. I would highly recommend their burger & fish and chips! It was so fresh, high quality for a reasonable price. Our server was kind, friendly, and helpful! Gave us a great start to the Cannon Beach experience. If you are looking for a spot to eat near Cannon Beach, this is the spot for you!

Rachel B.

Yelp
This place is a scam - ridiculously expensive! When we put our order, the waitress asked us if we want fries or salad, we all said salad and little did we know that it's $7 extra! The halibut sandwich had a super small piece, the size of 2 fingers + the salad = $30! The halibut salad also super small pieces of fish. The prices are like it's a fancy restaurant and the service is like a hardware store. The waitress didn't even bother to bring us forks, we had to go to the bar and ask for them ourselves, but she sure didn't mind the automatically added gratuity. Definitely not coming back.

Michael A.

Yelp
We arrived right before the clouds of Memorial Day. I think they were in the middle of a shift change so we weren't served for 10 minutes. The folks next to us was never served for 20 minutes...I'm sure it was all about the timing of our arrival. We ordered the fish and chips and the chicken fingers. The fish was really good and fries were decent...too soggy for my liking. The chicken strips were okay. I should have replaced the potato chips with another side. Fries were better choice. We sat outside on their patio watched the sun set. Great spot to eat towards the end of the day!! The staff was super nice but was waiting tables inside and outside at the same time so I'm had to hunt them down to order another round and ask for check. This is a great spot if you're traveling into Cannon Beach. I'd stick to a burger next time.

Michelle C.

Yelp
The ahi salad was amazing and the salt and pepper wings were some of the best I've ever had! The wings were crispy and perfectly cooked and the salad was very fresh.

Sheryl T.

Yelp
A little bummed that when we ordered 2 burgers and 2 appetizers (wings and calamari) for pickup no one mentioned the mandatory 18% takeout tip fee. So we had to pay $15 extra for that, totaling $96.78. If you're going to charge such a high mandatory fee at least be forthcoming about it. The burgers were good except for they load the bottom of the box with lettuce, tomato, and pickle and then set your burger on top of it. So by the time we got back to the hotel the bottom of the burgers were soggy. But the tater tots stayed crispy so that was nice (and they were yummy). I don't think I'd order from here again since there are many places to order a burger from and not have such a high mandatory charge.

Rachel L.

Yelp
What a fun and quirky place! My mom and I stopped in for a late (for us) dinner after spending the day at the Tillamook Creamery. It was still pretty busy at 7:15 even when they close at 8. We just had to wait a few minutes and then we were seated in airline seats with the table in front of us. It was very comfortable! The food was amazing! I had the best patty melt I have ever had in my 50yrs on earth. I paired it with the Portuguese mushroom soap which was also a winner. My mom had the Ecola burger with home made potato chips which she said she really liked. Prices were a bit pricier than I am used to (I live in Boise) but not by much. It was a wonderful meal, so NO COMPLAINTS! Service was really good too. I rarely give a perfect score, but I feel it fits here.

Maureen M.

Yelp
Who knew that the meal of our trip to Cannon Beach would be at the "Skrew & Brew"?? And a 70's playlist to boot-- we walked in hearing Hall & Oats' "Rich girl", and while leaving heard one-hit-wonder Ace sing "How long has this been going on?" It's an unassuming funky place-- yes, with a hardware store adjacent-- and one of the more interesting places to get a bite in Cannon Beach. My garden salad was topped with a generous portion of grilled halibut-- I chose the soy-ginger dressing--which was mighty tasty. The companion rated her burger and onion rings similarly. We were served by the lovely Kale. (PS. Forget about going to the Driftwood-- which was the worst meal of the trip.)

Anastazia V.

Yelp
Cool spot - we sat on the patio with our dog. They have a full bar. We ordered the chips and salsa which was delicious and we also split the chicken tenders with tater tots. The portions were pretty large and the food was good! I was full. I really wanted to try the salt and pepper wings but the price for 8 wings just seemed to high. It's worth a visit, I would return.

Brent B.

Yelp
Surprisingly, the best food we had in Cannon Beach, after trying 5 other places throughout the week. The grilled fish was a little dry, but the ahi and calamari were great. Reasonably priced compared to most other places in Cannon Beach, too.

Sarah K.

Yelp
Nice place with outdoor seating so you can bring your dog. Lots of water bowls. Very friendly and attentive service. Good food and beer selection.

Paul B.

Yelp
The staff! It was fun to stop here and have an excellent IPA, they (the staff) were attentive and fun! Stop by, it's worth the time!

Karen S.

Yelp
This place was awesome! We stopped in for a beer and they managed to squeeze us in even though it was super busy. Our waitress was amazing! Super friendly and she recommended a crab fishing place (we went the next day and had a blast!). We were just going to have beer but everyone was so nice - the bartender even came over and told us some stories. We ordered some appetizers - standard bar fare, mostly fried. The calamari was outstanding. Super tender with a light batter. The pretzel and onion rings were also great. They had a great beer menu for me and some of the others ordered some adult lemonade special, I can't remember the details, but they loved it. Oh, and if you need a screwdriver or some nails - they have that too. The place is also really a hardware store.

Jeremey K.

Yelp
Just finished lunch there. Fish and chips were outstanding. Never would've thought of eating at a hardware store.

Beth M.

Yelp
This place. This food. This bar. I've never experienced anything like it, and I can't wait to go back. The ahi tuna salad SLAPS! I will go back and try the Reuben next time I go. Everyone there is kind and service oriented. I wish I knew how to fix things, because I need an excuse to hang out there. Maybe they need a toaster fixed? It's quite an incredible respite in Cannon Beach.

Kaley O.

Yelp
Feels dirty, lazy, and way too expensive for what it is. Feels like eating in a convenience store with chairs that were thrifted. Service was mid, $65 for fish chips and a sandwich. Insane.

Markus Y.

Yelp
We ate here because of the yelp reviews. We weren't impressed! The service wasn't good. They do allow dogs outside, that was nice. They place wasn't anything special, were here for the food. I ordered a buffalo chicken burger. It was really over cooked the chicken was very tough. A little sauce dribbled in the middle, on a cheap small hamburger bun. The waitress said your options are fries or soup, named three kinds of soup. They way she made it sound was like it came with the entrée. It turned out they were very small cups of soup, not good and it certainly wasn't free. From the bad food and horrible service I felt they were not concerned about repeat business. We would never go back!

Kim P.

Yelp
So pleasantly surprised by this place, I mean it's actually a hardware store. It was DELICIOUS. The staff were absolutely amazing. It was quick and wonderful:)

Katlin B.

Yelp
Food was super good and staff was friendly. Didn't get refills on drinks during our visit though

Carrie C.

Yelp
First time here. What a great concept ! A restaurant/bar/hardware store. Eye candy for everyone! We were tired and I was hangry, so I was a little snarky when we arrived. Zach handled it so well! I didn't like my martini so he remade it with me to my taste. Food was great. customer service was top notch! Zach is a pro a such an asset to this establishment! To the owner: give this man a raise! We'll be back before we leave

Genevieve M.

Yelp
Stopped by for drinks and snacks! The fries with Cajun seasoning hit the spot and I loved the cider. Our waitress was also super nice and gave us recommendations. Highly recommend if you are in Cannon Beach!

Marina f.

Yelp
****DOGS ALLOWED AT OUTSIDE TABLES**** Decent tap list - but wasn't advised there were two separate lists when we sat down outside. This is all one business now (apparently): Screw & Brew and the Hemlocker. There seemed to be some confusion as to who was supposed to serve us; we were approached by a female waitress (from the S&B) and a man (who came out of Hemlocker) inquiring as to our beer order. I wish that attention would have been consistent throughout b/c as soon as we got our first beers, trying to order food and more beer was like a game of hide & seek. Food was pretty good for pub food; prices are what you'd expect for a pub in the coast. This was our first visit and we come to CB quite a bit. I'm sure we'll give this place another try on our next visit though.

Jackie M.

Yelp
The concept of a restaurant in a hardware store is really cool, especially in a small town. Unfortunately, expectations didn't quite meet reality. The food was not great and the hardware selection was a joke. We tried fish and chips, prawns and chips, and fried pretzels. The fish in the fish and chips was halibut and it was really good, but the batter was too thick and lacking in flavor. The prawns had the same batter and the batter-to-prawn ratio was off, just too much batter. The fries reminded me of fast food. The weirdest part of the meal were the fried pretzels. My kids loved them, but I thought it was kinda of unappealing. Most food in this town is meh. I won't be back to this restaurant and will probably stick to other coastal towns nearby.

Christine A.

Yelp
I love this little odds n ends place! Don't be fooled by the name!! This place has the BEST wings in town. You can eat them there or take th to go but plan accordingly bc it gets super busy. The salads are huge, fresh and delicious!! Cold drinks, great service and across the street from the beach!

Steve A.

Yelp
Yes, it really is a hardware store and a restaurant! Also known as "Screw and Brew"! Counter service with outdoor seating. Excellent fish and chips and onion rings.

Karen B.

Yelp
We ordered the homemade meatloaf sandwich and house brined pastrami Reuben. Both were quite good as well as the soup of the day which was a homemade chicken tortilla soup. It had just the right amount of spice and loaded with chicken. The server , possibly the owner, was quite nice and checked on us several times to make sure we were happy. The background oldies music was a nice touch and we were glad we avoided the hustle and bustle of other in town restaurants for this more relaxing place. We'll definitely be back.

Carianna G.

Yelp
We ate here cause of Yelp reviews. Very disappointed. Basic pub/fried food that was nothing special. Nothing was wrong with it necessarily, but I don't get the high star rating. Service was solid, food was okay. Not a dinner destination, in my opinion. Best part of dinner was watching someone buy a shovel... which made the experience a novelty.

Pam B.

Yelp
We received great service in this quirky setting. Good beer on tap and the food is fresh and thoughtfully assembled. I'll go back when in the area.

Crystal S.

Yelp
The best onion rings I've ever had!! We thought we'd stop by for lunch and we're so glad we did! Super friendly and attentive staff, great food and even better drinks! Will definitely stop in again when we come back for a visit :)

Simone B.

Yelp
Great. beer and great service! The food was good, not great or excellent, but good. The fish and chips were a little soggy (oil) specifically the fish. My nephew said his burger was okay. If you're hungry and want a different ambiance, this place will do. It's in a hardware store, hence the name, "Screw and Brew."

Vic M.

Yelp
There is a reason that this restaurant shows up at the top of the Yelp ratings. Good food, pleasant staff, and a neat atmosphere. Good craft beers on tap, great seafood dishes. This was a fun late lunch.

Xavy M.

Yelp
Fun place. Very eclectic, but the food was good and my group all enjoyed the meal and had a good time.

James W.

Yelp
Location location location - after a visit to Haystack Rock/Cannon Beach, this is a great place to grab some food & $5 draft beer. Just a block or so from the beach path, they have indoor & outdoor dining (although mostly unshaded). The service was great & the food tasty. They don't have an extensive menu but there is a nice variety. I had an excellent halibut sandwich w/ chips & my wife had the turkey sandwich w/ tots. It's a quirky combo - "Screw & Brew" hardware store & public house but a great option if you want great casual dining close to the beach & public parking.

Abby S.

Yelp
When I was planning my trip to the Oregon Coast, this was the place that I was probably the most excited to visit. I thought it was such a fun and quirky idea to have a restaurant space that was also a hardware store. Compared to other options in the area, the food is a bit pricy - but it was BY FAR the best fish and chips dish we had during our entire trip. It was a very sizable portion and it was warm and delicious. We also tried the pastrami rueben sandwich, which was fantastic. Definitely recommend this place and can't wait to return on my future visits to the coast.

Kelley N.

Yelp
Thank goodness it's over ...The Hardware Store is back to being our favorite place for date night! Seated on the outside patio immediately...even with families waiting in line to get a seat indoors. Our server surprised us ...he was dressed so well and was so pleasant we thought he was a customer! Order took awhile to arrive but they were really busy with the Sunday night, heading home after the beach tourists. Once it did arrive, it was deliciuos....just like we remember! The fish and chips. ..."Our most popular item!" ....they are not lying. Delicious, fresh halibut. Light batter...4 high pieces. And the BEST homemade tartar sauce! Hubs picked up a Real Reuben and he was not disappointed. (He buys them whenever they're on the menu and he said this one os atill one of the best.). "I like it when the bread makes the roof of my moth raw. A soggy Reuben is no bueno!" Unlike last time we had a very attentive, humorous server. The food was hot, fresh and served with a smile. The servers all walked around with smiles, making eye contact every time. Definitely our go to place AGAIN!!!!!

Carol Hartman D.

Yelp
Had high hopes but the high top seating was all that was available and was uncomfortable. Two of us had the shrimp sandwich special which they thought was excellent. However my salad was uninspired- just a handful of lettuce out of a box, and the halibut on top was paper thin, seasoned with a shake of tajin and just sad. Very nice waitress, though. But the most problematic part was the handwritten sign behind the bar :"socialism is the first step to communism". Found that undemocratic and disturbingly intolerant, redneck and an appetite destroyer in a liberal community. I was accepting of all the weird kitsch until then - much of which was junk laying around like toilet plungers hanging from the ceiling.

Ashley K.

Yelp
So apparently this place has been here for about 12 years. I am a Rockaway Beach native, and I've never seen this place or even heard of it! I am so glad I stumbled upon this place with my husband, we looked at shovels, flashlights, all after devouring amazing quality local food, and drinks!!! We will be regulars now HANDS DOWN!

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Well, we were so excited to revisit and eat here again after our last wonderful experience but this time let's just say was not a hit the mark kind of experience! I quickly ordered the pastrami again because I was craving the same deliciousness I had once upon a time before Covid. How can you go wrong with a delicious in-house 4 week aged process that creates the best melt in your mouth pastrami. Well this visit was the antithesis of the last visit. Rubbery tough pastrami meat was what I fought with this time around. Unfortunately we ordered our very highly priced meal to go because we were just settling in at the RV park down the road and needed a quick bite to eat after our travels. What a better way to spend our first night than to grab some delicious food from a cool little place that we needed some hardware supplies anyway for our camper. We killed 2 birds with one stone and grabbed our meal and headed back to the RV to enjoy. Nope! Not a great experience especially with the "cup of clam chowder!" It was more like a half a cup of watered down clear broth with clams and a couple tiny pieces of potatoes. There were a few big clams but it was lackluster and not the traditional clam chowder that we were looking for. Also a very steep price for a tiny bit of "not even a cup" of this so called chowder. Hubby enjoyed his fish n chips but other than that we will probably not return due to the cost of the meal vs the actual meal that you receive. Plenty of other places around to enjoy. This novelty place was great the first time so I'll stick with the nostalgic moment and forget about this visit all together. Thanks for the memories ;( 2.5 stars

Morgan R.

Yelp
The fish & chips is really very good -- standard fish & chips features halibut. I'm guessing it's a beer batter, but no matter, it's good, and the fish is exquisite. The onion rings were pretty standard and a little heavy (what was a good amount of batter for the fish was a bit too much for the onions). If the prices were reasonable, I'd go back again and again. But at $50 for fish & chips for two (2 orders to go), this was incredibly pricey. And that's without drinks or sides or tip or sitting at a table with waiter service. So I'll save this for special occasions -- and visit infrequently. Tom's Fish & Chips down the street is a lot cheaper (about half the price, though they default to cod, not halibut, and the quality is nowhere near as good) ... so come to Cannon Beach Hardware if you want the best, but be prepared to pay. Would have been 5-stars, but with the price, only 4-stars.

Mike S.

Yelp
Nice little spot, it's clean, friendly staff, ok food options and great bar selection. We visited in July the weather was perfect and our visit here was good. Lots of people that was the only annoying thing.

Jimmy B.

Yelp
Funky environment in a literal hardware store but friendly staff, great music and excellent food. I had the Reuben and it was incredible. Also really tasty oyster shooters. We stay at the Surfsand Resort when we come to Cannon Beach so the location is perfect. Only reason they didn't get five stars is it took a while to get our check despite having our card on the table. Minor issue. Great place.
