Just collected after a visit to this place for the first time for lunch today, as I live locally. Restaurant was full and for takeaway there was a queue.
When I did get food and take home, it was hands down THE MOST AWFUL CHIPS I have ever tasted from a fish and chip shop. Brittle, pale, chewy, old stale taste and lifeless. A real disappointment and practically ruined the experience for me, my partner and her friend. A shame because the fish, scampi, fish cakes were decent.
Reading the comments here, I see a previous reviewer has commented about exactly the same, and phoned them up to complain, whereby they were told it must be a bad variety of potato. It didn't fool them as they had kitchen restaurant experience. I have to agree with them that it seemed the chips had been cooked some time before, possibly even the night before. But I would add that this time, it could've been that they were undercooked due to them being busy.
Order at your peril, but don't say I didn't warn you. I was fooled by the gentrified look of the place from the outside, which of course, is no guarantee of the experience you'll get from within.
