The Essential Guide to Louisiana's Northshore

"A locally owned outfitter run by a husband-and-wife team that leads guided paddling trips from their home launch, offering intimate kayak tours through nearby bayous where participants commonly spot alligators, turtles, bald eagles, ospreys, warblers, and other wildlife. Tours emphasize connection to the natural landscape and local stewardship, often allowing paddlers to have the waterways nearly to themselves for a peaceful, nature-focused experience." - Amanda Ogle Amanda Ogle Amanda Ogle is a writer and editor who specializes in travel, food and drink, sustainability, and general lifestyle topics. My husband and I went on our very first Kayaking trip. It was so much fun and I truly think I picked a great company and Bayou to have this 1st experience! Chad was there to meet us with the kayaks and give us great tips, plus his prices are the Best! I would definitely recommend Canoe and trail adventures and we will return!

We had a wonderful experience at Cane Bayou. We rented a double kayak for 3 hours. We enjoyed a self guided float at our own pace. Chad equipped us with all the information we needed to enjoy the area to the fullest. The wildlife was abundant in this area. The birdwatching was awesome! We even got a really good look at a couple of alligators.

We had an exceptional experience with this place. The guide Matt was so knowledgeable and friendly. He explained the history of the area and explained the change in ecosystems as we came upon them. I also appreciated that he picked up trash debris as we came upon it, you can tell that they really take care of the area. The lunch was amazing afterwards at Nans. Our guide recommended some things to do close by afterwards as well. We had another small group in our tour group, totalling 7 people and that was a perfect size to hear and see everything and it wasn't too crowded. I would absolutely recommend this and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

What an amazing experience! A chance to experience true Louisiana with guides who not only know their stuff but are also just as excited as us to see things! Such a relaxed environment, and being allowed to paddle back at your own speed was excellent as it really enabled us to take our time and get some great pictures. We toured 5 states in our holiday, and this was one of our highlights and definitely the best thing we did in New Orleans. Great value too - if we had more time we definitely would've done a twilight paddle as well! Thanks guys, it was awesome!

After looking for a highly rated canoe/kayak tour this one stood out for me from the start. I loved that there were no loud boat motor noises to scare the wildlife and that we could get up close to all we saw. Due to the fact that alligators aren't fed by humans to be lured closer to the paddlers you had to have a keen vision to catch all the sightings along the way. There were a plethora of sightings, and Kevin was an amazing tour guide. In addition we saw 2 types of turtles, several kinds of snakes, a frog (that hitched a ride on everyone's water craft), birds, flora and other fauna. The weather could not have been more ideal and the paddle out and back more enjoyable. Thank you Canoe & Trail Adventures for providing the option to float so close to the water and really enjoy the perfect way to spend a handful of hours away from the hustle of the big city.

What a fantastic day out! We rented a double kayak from Chad for 4 hours on the bayou in Fontainebleau State Park. We had a great time kayaking at our own leisurely pace down the bayou, with plenty of alligator and birdlife sightings. It was pretty hot out, but we stayed covered with hats and sunscreen, (free water Chad provided was fantastic!) and there was plenty of tree shade to chill out under. The map Chad provided to us was great, offering plenty of alternative routes to get up close to baby alligators in shallower water. It wasn't too busy with other tour groups either, so we mostly had the bayou to ourselves. Chad and Matt are fantastic guides and hosts, highly recommend their tours and kayak rentals. They also rent canoes and do guided group tours which I'll come back for next time! After the tour we were given a voucher/coupon for free ice cream 5mins down the road - perfect way to cool down after a hot day out :D

Let me start off by saying that I am not sporty or the outdoors type of person, at all. However, this tour made me feel extremely comfortable and safe. We took the longer tour with Kevin as our guide. I was in a tandem kayak with my husband and took the 9a tour because if it were any later it would have been too hot for us. That being said, this was the best 2.5+ hours exploring the bayou. The ride there took about 30-40min but with a pit stop to use the bathroom and pick up any snacks. Once we started the tour, we first kayaked as a group with Kevin who would gather us around to show us some hidden nature like a snakes, crickets, and flowers/plants that we would have otherwise never seen. Kevin was super friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. When we got to our halfway point we had lunch. We opted for the catfish po-boy that you can order when you book your tickets. This was an awesome choice. The company provided us with plenty of water, chips, and sunscreen too. After the halfway point, we were given the option to stay with the group or kayak back on our own. This was awesome since it was just my husband and I spending some quality time in the most beautiful and tranquil setting. We still managed to see a bird and have a tiny frog hitch a ride on my shoe. By the end of the tour we were exhausted but the company itself still managed to keep give us a little "pick me up" surprise at the end. Oh, and as an added bonus they send you a link of the photos the guides take throughout your tour. We ended up with a perfect shot of us kayaking together that I'm sure will end up in a frame (or Instagram, haha). Overall, this company is locally own and genuinely cares about the environment and their tours demonstrate that respect. It's definitely an experience we will never forget and will highly recommend to anyone going to NOLA. Thank you, Kevin & company.
