Canopy by Hilton Portland Waterfront

"Set the scene: Why did the hotel catch your attention? Truly reflective of Portland’s new direction, Canopy boasts modern comfort and style while being directly across from the city’s working waterfront. The rooftop bar, Luna, has quickly become a popular hangout for both tourists and locals alike—as it turns out, the water views are universally appealing. Though it is a Hilton property, Canopy has plenty of unique character, and the clientele runs the gamut from vacationing families to hipster twentysomethings. Someone did their homework before opening, as you will find some of the city’s most exciting art and food featured throughout.  How are the rooms? Stylistically, the rooms are relatively straightforward in terms of clean, modern style. King waterfront rooms are spacious and comfortable. The views are lovely, the linens are soft, and they are happy to provide in-room caviar and kettle chips, from neighboring Browne Trading, for the ideal pre-game snack. If you are looking for a perfect base of operations to explore the city’s reputable food scene, it doesn’t get much more convenient than Commercial Street. Food and drink: What's on offer? Luna offers an array of cocktail options for those who imbibe and those who do not. It is appropriate, given the setting, to indulge in platters of fresh oysters, shrimp, and crab claws, though more playful options such as “red snapper” corndogs also stand out. While they refer to them as “small plates,” many are substantial enough to make it a full dining destination easily. Service is friendly and informal. You should expect a wait on any given night of the week and treat it as part of the experience—I was surprised at the “clubbiness” of the vibe early on a Tuesday evening. The in-house café, Salt Yard, is an excellent option for breakfast and lunch, featuring locally roasted coffee and fresh bagels. Again, they are on-point with their selection of purveyors and can save you a trip to the actual spots in a few instances because you’ve got a lot of eating and drinking to do. What's on offer for families/accessibility/sustainability? Canopy is fully accessible." - Joe Ricchio

I had a wonderful time at the Portland canopy hotel. Staff was fabulous. I get a great feel for the hotel when I speak to the service staff and they seem happy. They were kind, helpful, and there for me when I needed something. They helped me with the ice machine, opening my doors extra coffee or towels. Alec was wonderful at the front desk. Thank you very much for making my first visit to Maine a very pleasant experience.

This hotel was one of the highlights of staying in Portland, Maine. Located in a great vibrant area along the port. Lots of history in this area and amazing seafood restaurants everywhere. The people at this hotel are so nice. The rooftop bar Luna is amazing. The rooms are beautifully furnished. The bed is the most comfortable. I’ve slept in. Amazing pillows and sheets. The restaurant downstairs serves a great lunch and dinner. Great bar downstairs love this place not one complaint. I think this is one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at. It’s one of those places where I wish my bedroom looks just like the one at the hotel.

The Canopy hotel is amazing! I have stayed in just about every hotel in Portland over the years, and The Canopy is by far the nicest, coolest, most convenient and comfortable hotel. It has its own restaurant on the bottom floor and separate rooftop bar. Most hotels in Portland do not have a restaurant, never mind a roof top bar that overlooks the ocean. It's on the waterfront, and walking distance to the Old Port area and Becky's Diner. Alec and Andrew at the front desk provided the most amazing customer service and made me feel welcome and right at home. The hotel is brand new, has live music at night, very comfortable beds and a spacious bathroom and shower. I visit Portland often and I am glad to say that I will be returning to The Canopy as my home away from home whenever I have the chance.

I spend about 300 days a year in hotels and this is one of the most consistent properties I ever stay at. They have an amazing hard product. Location, amenities, food, etc. But what really separates this place is the people. They are the most helpful, nice, and competent staff I’ve ever seen at a hotel. Especially the man at the front desk named Alec. We rented bikes and one of ours had a flat tire so we called the hotel and Alec drove a brand new bike to the ferry station in his suit! It was an incredible move and I would stay at this property again just to see Alec. You will not be disappointed if you stay at this property. Make sure you ask for Alec, he will go above and beyond to make sure you are taken care of!!

Google
Fantastic spot in Old Port Portland. Friendly staff who were helpful and made great recommendations. Perfect location for bopping around old port and easy jump off for a Thompson’s Point show. Rooms are clean and comfy. Awesome rooftop bar for sunset snacks or cocktails. And a great breakfast spot for the best salted caramel latte. Thanks for the stay!

This is my third stay at the Canopy in Portland and simply the best place to enjoy the city for a long weekend. The location is perfectly placed near amazing restaurants and shopping. The staff is friendly and accommodating and the rooms are chic and cozy making for a lovely retreat after a day out exploring. The Luna Rooftop Bar has a fantastic view and a menu of tasty bites and drinks to match. The restaurant and coffee shop Salt Yard top off the experience as a great place for breakfast and a stop for an afternoon coffee.

Wasn't sure what to expect as this was my first time at a "Canopy" hotel in the Hilton family. We were pleasantly surprised overall. Our room was sort of modern minimalist and well appointed. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful. The location in the Old Port section of the city was very convenient. ||The 6th floor has a lively and busy rooftop bar, and we also enjoyed nice food at the Salt Yard restaurant for breakfast. This is a very casual spot where you order at the cashier and the food is brought to you. ||Perhaps the largest detractor was the nightly parking fee of $40. That seems excessive for Portland and might have you consider another option in the city.

Google
This hotel excels on all levels. Service was absolutely incredible upon arrival, where we were greeted and checked in promptly. Rooms were completely clean and don't look to have major wear and feel quite modern. Parking is good, and they have on-street parking for 2 hours at a time from 8-6 and free overnight parking, excluding a street cleaning day. The upstairs bar and even the downstairs bars + cafe were all excellent and rivaled some of the restaurants in the area. If you need a place to stay that is right in the middle of the action of Portland, this place is a must-visit. Easy walking distance (5- 10 minutes) to all shops and food areas.

Yelp
Amazing time at this hotel Griffin gave us great recommendations on what to do with our time here. He was accommodating and friendly. Thank you Griffin!

Yelp
Really clean rooms and building. The check in guy was nice but a little wirey and only to find out that he charged us for Valet when we didn't park a through the hotel. So he kind of dropped the ball by asking us and then charging us. Luckily the woman at check out had confirmed these charges and solved it quickly. Regardless staff is very nice. Shower head is nice and again the room was very clean. Pillows were alright and the beds definitely fell well slept in/sinky but slept through the night. Was very thankful for the water gallon to fill up down the hall. Check in was 3pm and really appreciated the 12pm check out. They also leave a QR card in the room for you to tip your cleaning ladies if you feel inclined. Rooftop restaurant with some nice views called Luna. And as mentioned there is no parking for hotel, but does have a $40 a night valet as an option.

Yelp
A New Yorker is rating this hotel. To be honest, this hotel is overcharged price every night. Since NYC have lots of modern condos all over the places, this is the reason why I feel it's over charged. one night I wanted to book, but I gave up, they asked $575/ A night. This is over charged priced hotel. I hope they consider more decent price; around $150-$200. Moxey is very similar style (they're more based on hotel not condo style) and they won't charge a lot.

Yelp
I've stayed at many different Hiltons as a diamond and I always assumed Canopy locations would be bland. Boy was I mistaken! I spent two nights here using my AMEX Hotel Collection benefits. Fine print warning: Diamond benefits do not stack with Hotel Collection benefits. The facilities were very well maintained and the room had a soaking tub and a regular glass shower. Included was a soft light Japanese-style robe which felt amazing while lounging on the sofa after soaking in the tub. We visited the rooftop bar but didn't have time to try the food or drinks since we are night owls and this is Portland in winter. Learn from our mistake and go early enough to experience the heated seating areas on the balcony. The ladies at the desk at check in were angels and provided great tips on local options and the most amazing tote bag to carry our supplies in while exploring Portland. We walked to all parts of the downtown and felt very welcomed by all of the staff. I will definitely stay here again when visiting Portland.

Yelp
I love the feel and vibe of this hotel. The wood, fire, and green elements around the hotel made it feel so nice a cozy. It is conveniently located walking distance to the wharf and restaurant row. Absolutely enjoyed our stay for one night before heading to Bar Harbor.

Yelp
Valet service is ridiculous. $40 a day for them to park it in an open lot (not even covered or protected) directly next to the hotel. Even though there is in/out privileges, if there is more than one person requesting their car, it takes much longer than the quoted time (we were quoted 20 mins and it took 35 mins). The valet didn't even clear our car off at all when it snowed or help with bags. This is a glorified grab for money. Would have preferred to park myself in the lot simply to save my time, incredibly disappointing.

Yelp
We came here recently for a vacation where we got engaged- the staff was so nice and left us chocolates and wine. Our room was quite large and the bed and pillows were comfy. I was so happy to stay in a hotel that had a separation from the room to the bathroom and separation from the mirror to the toilet area. I loved they had actual hand soap instead of bar soap and their shower products were nice too. As a big water drinker I loved the ability to fill up our water on the floor whenever we wanted and not having to use water bottles a ton. The property is in a great location and has two bars and a breakfast restaurant. All staff we interacted with were so kind and helpful. Only cons is parking price and it being a bit expensive, pricier then NYC hotels.
google avatar

Shelby M.

Yelp
The staff were super welcoming & helpful. They gave my kids lobster souvenirs, which was so thoughtful! They also provided complimentary bottled waters, not having to purchase those separately was really nice. The room is extremely clean, comfortable, and updated with massive windows providing an awesome view of downtown. They have a roof top bar & a restaurant on the lower level that serves breakfast. There is also parking right behind the building, so that's a plus! We will stay here every time we come to Portland from now on.

Yelp
Good rooms, a great location and an onsite restaurant don't offset the $40 per night valet parking fee.

Yelp
We were welcomed very warmly by the front desk when we arrived. During our three night stay, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. There is small bar on the ground floor, and Luna, the rooftop bar. The rooms are well designed, but very expensive! Our 3 night stay in the middle of May was $1684 plus another $120 for parking. I know it's priced for location, but the rooms were not $561/night worth it. We also thought the mattress and pillows were way too soft. I had use all four pillows on the bed to have any support. Also, only one elevator worked for our stay. And, totally out of control of the hotel, a bunch of drunk guys pulled the fire extinguisher off the wall and set off the fire alarm at 3:30 AM!! The whole hotel had to evacuate and stand on the street. What the Canopy did for everyone was give us one free drink and a chocolate bar. Really? Do better Hilton.
google avatar

Allison S.

Yelp
We love the Canopy brand of Hilton - and this hotel did not disappoint. The room is pretty standard to the brand - updated and elevated. The hotel itself has some really great perks - free bike rentals and an amazing rooftop bar/restaurant. It has a great location downtown along the water and was only a few blocks from Cross Insurance Arena.

Yelp
Yelp came through for me here! We were so conflicted on what hotel to stay at while in Portland and I have no doubt that we made the right choice based on reviews. This hotel is right near the water (hence the waterfront being in the hotel's name). Not sure of the parking situation but they do have a valet. Check in was pretty easy. Our room was ready early and the man at the front desk got our keys ready quickly. Our room was in a great location, not near the elevator on the top floor (6th floor), right next door to the fitness center and a few feet from Luna, their rooftop bar. Fitness center was probably one of the best ones I've seen in a hotel. They have a Pelaton, a full rack of dumbbells, treadmills, towels, water bottle and more! If there was a power rack, this could be my full gym. Our room was so nice, bathroom had a great rain shower head. The view was pretty decent (it's of a building but I'm not complaining). The bed was a king, pretty soft and the TV was great, but wish we had the ability to cast to it. Best part was them leaving us a bag, two pairs of Canopy socks, a card wishing us happy anniversary, and two little buoys that we could redeem for two complimentary drinks from Luna. It was crazy that they were even able to put that together for us since I was only able to inform them of our anniversary a few hours prior to check in. There currently is no daily housekeeping unless requested but it wasn't really an issue since it was only a 3 night stay. Another great thing is the free filtered water machine on each floor. The two huge bottles they provided made things super convenient. Overall this really was the best hotel we've been to in a while. A great combination of location, room, customer service, and amenities. This is definitely going to be my go to hotel when I come back to Portland and it should be all of yours too!

Yelp
Only downside was the parking. All the rest was super cool. We had an excellent room with great amenities and a very comfy bed. The onsite amenities were cool. The upstairs bar was nicely staffed and had some good selections. It was a nice day so we had to compete with the riff raff off the street but it all turned out. Overall it was a wonderful stay and made the Hilton brand look good again.
google avatar

Julie S.

Yelp
We had a great weekend here. The room was well appointed and clean. We had daily turn down service. The service was great overall. The rooftop bar was a lot of fun and the bartenders were really friendly. tip: The valet parking was about $40/night, and we didn't have the energy to find alternatives so factor that into your budget.

Yelp
The breakfast at Salt Yard was delicious and the appetizers and Drinks were outstanding at Luna!

Yelp
This hotel is fantastic! Everything is newly renovated and/or brand new. The hotel offers digital check-in, check-out and room keys. You can also do everything old school, if you prefer. The views primarily include portions of the harbor and surrounding city. This hotel is a short drive or easy walk to many bars/restaurants and breweries. The hotel rooftop bar was by far my favorite part of this hotel. Six floors up with a full bar, inside cozy seating and open outdoor seating with firepits. I was lucky enough to stay here on a relatively cheaper night, as it was the off season. The staff was relatively helpful and polite. There is street parking or valet. I look forward to returning here in the summer months!

Yelp
Ok I will start this review off with a disclaimer in that this is a Hilton and most of these hotels are top notch so I was expecting just that. Not really sure why they call it canopy when there was no canopies in our room not that it was a deal breaker or anything as you can see as I have 4 stars. The rooftop bar was jamming and looked like it was a definite win but of course like everything else in Portland during the week, everything closes so early. Would have loved to have grabbed a night cap but was denied in both the rooftop and the lobby bars. The service was great and they offer valet parking and the room was clean and well kept. I would have given this one 5 if they gave that typical Hilton touch I have come to expect but there was no real WOW factor ... just a good experience for a high price.

Yelp
My husband and I had a fabulous 2 day trip here. We stayed here on a Sunday - Tuesday as a mini anniversary trip to ourselves. I booked this hotel through Amex with my platinum card. It is part of their "hotel collection." This earned me a $100 credit to use at the hotel as well as a potential room upgrade (if available). I chose to use this credit towards the valet fee which is $38/day with in and out privileges. Valet is the only option. We tried to find parking ourselves but it is very difficult in the surrounding area. The valet was great. Very quick! I am a Hilton gold status member. This earned us a $12/person daily breakfast. My husband and I loved the fresh juices and massive breakfast sandwiches offered at Salt Yard (their cafe located off the lobby), so we used this credit there. Try the sandwich on the croissant roll, it has sooo much bacon! We loved the free bikes!! They come with helmets and locks. First come first serve (you can borrow for up to 6 hours). We biked all the way to the cape elizabeth light houses. It was a little challenging without gears on the bikes, but doable. Definitely take these bikes around old port and enjoy. Lastly, to my surprise, my husband called prior to our arrival to mention it was our anniversary to see if the staff could leave a nice note or something special upon our arrival. Not only was a bottle of Prosecco waiting in our room, but with a nice hand written note as well! Thank you Cameron and Allison! We ended up being upgraded (either due to my Amex status or perhaps our special occasion) to a beautiful king suite! It was big and had 1.5 bathrooms. Everything was brand new. The shower was excellent, it had shower heads in every direction and felt like a resort spa. The bed was so comfortable, my husband and I agreed one of the better beds we have stayed on during our hotel visits. We could see the water from our room. This hotel is great! I even enjoyed the fitness area and was able to use the peloton bikes offered there. We will definitely stay here when in the Portland area again!

Yelp
I recently stayed here for a staycation. I was able to easily find the hotel and valet staff assisted me in parking the car. I came in a bit early before the normal 3pm check-in time but I was still able to check-in and get my room. Check in was a breeze. I really liked the modern decor of this hotel. The king size room was beautiful and tidy. There is plenty of space to hang your clothes and they also provided bathrobes. They also have free Wifi, in-room safe, Nespresso machine, and a pullout refrigerator drawer. I liked how they have hardwood floor instead of carpet over the whole room. The only thing I can nitpick about the room are the pillows. They are way too soft! The hotel also has a restaurant for breakfast, a beautiful rooftop bar, and a fitness room. The fitness room was of decent size and had elliptical machine, Peloton bikes, treadmills, weights, and Yoga mats. Valet and front desk staff were very friendly and happy to assist me with reservations. They also have complimentary bikes that you can use to explore the city but I didn't get a chance to try it out. I had a great stay and definitely recommend this hotel.

Yelp
I'd give this place a 4.5-star review! I'll round up the statistics. The great!: The staff were very accommodating. Laura Rumson at checkout was a gem making sure that everything was correct with my bill. She was patient and kind and answered all my questions. I adore her. Other people during my stay were fabulous too and despite a few hiccups, made everything right with their customer service. The rooms are modern with LVP flooring lots of high water pressure and fast heating for the water. I loved the spacious shower and the shower attachment. I had plenty of space. Also, this location is prime. You're near shopping and restaurants and the water. Old Port is perfect for this. Also, the room was very clean. Parking is valet only, but they are usually fast to take your car. Room for Change: Although things look modern I did notice rust around fixtures, and I did unfortunately cut my hand on the shower attachment holder Maintenance was addressed fast. Outside of their control: The walls are on the thinner side so you can hear your neighbors talking at moderate volumes. If you have a connecting room you can hear the actual conversation easily. This is also in a location that can be noisy due to the restaurants, bars, and general tourist appeal. You'll hear street noise easily. I was there during the week so most noise quieted by 11p. If you're an earlier sleep I may recommend a different location outside of Old Port. Portland is very walkable and flat so wouldn't be an issue being farther out unless you have issues moving around. Verdict: I'd stay here again if I was going mid-week outside of touristy season and the staff are fantastic.

Yelp
We had a wonderful stay here last week. The hotel is modern and is beautifully decorated. The staff is very friendly and I was able to try contactless check in and get an electronic key for our room. This was super convenient as I'm someone who often forgets hotel key cards. I highly recommend getting the digital key vs the traditional key card if you have the option. Parking: valet only Location: Great, right by the water Room: clean and comfortable

Eddie R.

Yelp
Before I talk about the 3 star rating, let me explain some things. The staff was exceptionally polite and professional: 5 stars! The hotel room, cleanliness and aesthetics: 5 stars! Location to shops and restaurants within walking distance: 5 stars! Now we get to the car parking. There is NOWHERE to park your vehicle without paying. The hotel has valet parking only, which I didn't mind. I also didn't mind tipping the valet. What I found disappointing was that on top of payingfor our hotel room, I had to pay an extra $40 A NIGHT for parking. There's no parking lot for the hotel itself and on street parking is non existent. If there was on street parking you have to pay for that too. Then it would only be good for a certain amount of time and the vehicle would have to be moved to another area where you're going to pay probably even more for parking. If your only transportation while staying here is cycling, walking and the occasional Uber/Lyft I would highly recommend this hotel.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel reasonably priced in the heart of the Old Port. Convenient to everything. Large comfortable rooms with a great bathroom layout.

Yelp
Everything was great at check in however it took a turn. I left my phone charger and earrings on the nightstand of the room during my stay. I left then realized that afternoon I forgot them but I was close by. I called the hotel, they said they couldn't find it but they would check with house keeping and call me back. No call back so I followed up the next morning and they acted as if I never reported it. The room I was assigned, 428, had one side of the bedside outlets that didn't work. The view wasn't very picturesque as I had hoped based on the descriptions. The hotel doesn't have room service. You have to fill your own water from a shared machine that I found to be less than optimal. There is valet parking which was great. The restaurants on site were average, but didn't blow me away.

Yelp
We had a great stay at the Canopy Hilton in late August. Hotel was beautiful, clean and comfortable. Great location. Nice staff. Roof top hotel bar was fantastic as well. I read an exhausting amount of reviews before choosing this hotel and have to say I agree with all of the good ones.

Karl S.

Yelp
We spent a few nights here a few weeks back and had an amazing time. We wanted to visit the upstairs bar on our first night but they were very busy so we decided to grab a drink downstairs at the salt yard and then try to go upstairs again afterwards. We didn't try to go back, we spent most of our downtime in the Saltyard bar downstairs that night and the next night before leaving the next day. The female bartender and her drinks were amazing, but her smile and energy are what kept us there and kept us coming back. This was truly one of the highlights of our trip and we will definitely be back next year for our anniversary again and you'll find us in the Saltyard for drinks!
google avatar

Jayne S.

Yelp
I'm rating this purely on the one dish I order every time I go here. I like to order things in restaurants that I can't or won't make for myself, because I'm a pretty good cook and why bother going out then? Canopy's yogurt bowl with lemon curd, candied pistachios, and fruit with fresh herbs is beyond delicious. I've had coffee and sampled a few baked goods and they're yummy too, but this lemon yogurt dish? Worth the trip to Portland's downtown. The space is wide open, and definitely has the vibe (and prices) of a higher-end hotel eatery, but the food is far from your basic hotel continental breakfast. Don't sleep on this one! Ha.

Yelp
When we first arrived to the hotel,  we were greeted by a friendly valet gentleman.  We were on a road trip and had items scattered around the vehicle. An organized chaos. The valet gentleman assisted us with unloading the majority of the vehicle into a luggage carrier. The front desk women were positive and friendly.  After an easy check-in, we wheeled the luggage carrier to the room and were greeted by an amazing layout. The closet and bathroom were toward the entrance of the room. The mirror beside the bathroom had perfect lighting for doing makeup. The bed was comfy and large and was spacious to navigate around. What made the hotel experience the best... let me say, by the time we got to this hotel, we had been in 7 hotels on our new england travel.  This hotel had the most welcoming connective staff ever. Dayton welcomed us back from dinner with open arms. He and Jose listened as we shared our travels with them and our journey as a newly engaged couple.  Dayton was fun, friendly, and a great listener. My fiance and I agreed that it felt as if we knew him forever. Jose and Dayton pumped us up and made us feel so excited, heard, and encouraged. Dayton and Jose gave us great advice and suggestions for the rest of our time in Portland. They both seemed proud of their city and expressed why we should love Portland as much as they do. They really sold it in a positive way. The Canopy has beautiful rooms and an amazing staff. I hope to return again soon . I feel very convinced.

Yelp
I've stayed at hundreds of hotels around the world... over a thousand nights in Hilton properties and this stay was top tier! The location is great, the service attentive, and the room and amenities superb. Upgraded to corner 1 br suite on top floor, which is also where the well equipped fitness center with Pelotons is, as well as the rooftop bar. Great breakfast options and free Good coffee downstairs too.

Yelp
Hotel was super modern. Awesome stay, my go-to when visiting Portland. Will definitely be back. Cleanliness was top notch

Yelp
1st time staying here, place is clean, modern, new and nice. The bad thing and seems to be that any hotel in this area has it, parking is an additional cost. Staff is friendly. Next time I will do the Rooftop. Hotel has everything close by walking distance, they will lend you bicycles. Other thing that maybe for next time. It was a short business trip.

Yelp
This was a wonderful hotel, the location was great. The rooftop bar was beautiful, they had great cocktails and appetizers. The rainfall shower felt amazing to warm up your bones after a colder evening wandering around downtown Portland area.

Yelp
Great hotel great location close but not too close to the bars and restaurants. Coffee bar in the hotel does great breakfasts and is very comfortable

Yelp
Fantastic inn. We had our wedding here and the experience was excellent. Our guests that stayed at the inn were raving about the accommodations and the great front desk staff. As for the wedding, the staff made it an amazing day and handled the onsite coordination. Thanks, Mara, Johann and team! Guests were raving about the meals (filet mignon, Halibut and a vegetarian option) and said the wedding was very memorable. I'd 100% recommend this inn as a wedding or conference/meeting venue. Your event(s) will be flawless and low-stress if you go with this venue. For weddings, the venue has options for both indoor and outdoor ceremonies. Wedding florals are included and the onsite florist, Mike, is incredibly talented.

Yelp
We had a lovely suite, and nothing was lacking here. Location was great. The canopy is an updated Hilton concept.

Yelp
$700 per night and my room is tiny, the view is of a dirty roof and bird poop, no pool or even a microwave. I hear music blasting through the walls from from one side of my 2nd floor room and hear kids screaming on the other side. There is not even a proper laptop desk or closet. Oh and parking cost $40 extra per night. Totally disgusted. I've stay in low-end hotels in Portland with larger rooms, better amenities, and didn't hear bass-thumping music and screaming through the walls. I tried to cancel my 2nd night as soon as I checked in and realized what I was stuck with... and the management said "no." Would never stay here again or recommend to anyone. There are better values and comfort in Portland. Don't waste your money here.

Yelp
Just an absolutely beautiful property. Service was exceptional and enjoyed Luna the rooftop lounge. Had a fabulous glass of wine and enjoyed the view. The location is in the Old Port area of Portland and easily walkable to everything in downtown. I would say, our city will be the better because of this fantastic addition to the waterfront.

Yelp
Misleading: I would like to give it 4/5 stars but my husband was not crazy about the place. I booked this place based on an advertisement on the web photos that looked alike as all rooms has a waterfront view. Nope...not exactly. Perhaps the name should be Canopy by Hilton Portland Downtown instead of Waterfront. My room was a view to the back of the parking lot and you have to book the roof top floor East/Southside to view seaside. My mistake not knowing the hotel, I guess... The hotel is fairly new, a new modern design, new furnitures and fairly clean air. BUT, The bed was comfortable for me only not to my husband. The staff were nice and friendly EXCEPT Luna rooftop staffs were not sure how to handle customers. A little whispers to each other and delayed to assigned the table outside for us when there were plenty space outside patios. They didn't put us where we want to seat. I was perplexed. I was informed first come first served no more reservation need it and yet they were telling me I can't seat where I want since it has reservation...wait a min. if my flight schedule got canceled every one in that flight gets cancellations notice, right? it doesn't matter if they booked and bought 3 months ago.. right? isn't that the same with this case? (if you are reading this and have different view please let me know) anyhow I could not see a seaside view where I'm sitting and we choose to leave the place. all I want to do was looking out the seaside!!! Also, No parking option-must pay $38 per day After staying 2/3 days here, They could do better with the price for the place. It reminds me of nice college Apartment. I would give s3.9 stars

Yelp
A beautiful hotel. Our room was very clean and comfortable! The only small disappointment was that there is nowhere at this facility to have dinner. The breakfast/brunch location is excellent... actually the best breakfast we've had during a week in Maine. Front desk employees were all very friendly and helpful. Helped us get airport transportation for a very early morning flight and gave us several restaurant recommendations. Would stay here again!!

Yelp
Expectations well exceeded! Our new favorite brand! We booked Canopy Portland Waterfront hotel in Maine for a simple get-away; but, we couldn't have prepared ourselves for all that they have to offer. Once we passed through the simple entrance, we were washed in a stunning vibe of what can be described as the perfect marriage between "electric chic and city sophistication." Suffice it to say that is no ordinary hotel brand. The entire experience, from check-in to the accommodations and every space in between, has a warm glossy glow that instantly submerges the senses into a sea of glass, and metal, and light, and burled wood. The Canopy staff is attentive and gracious, pairing themselves seamlessly to the true luxury hospitality experience. There exists well-planned, cozy seating clusters throughout the hotel, along with multiple fire features that set that exquisite, mysterious, enveloping, sexy ambiance. It has been said that "Luna Rooftop Bar is the crown jewel of the Canopy Portland Waterfront hotel." We can attest that it felt like walking into a secret, member's only lounge where you just know it's going to be a great night! Accounting for a staff that is genuinely endearing, engaged and proven to be highly skilled, the culinary delights that were bestowed upon us (made-to-order, locally sourced breakfasts, comforting snacks and excellent gourmet small-plate dishes) as well as the hand-crafted cocktails, it is no wonder that halfway through the experience, we were already planning our next stay at a Canopy. What an adventure! What a gem! Tell everyone! Huzzah! We will absolutely make this our go-to in Portland. Believe us, you are going to want to be here!

Yelp
I loved this property. The décor was really nicely done. Modern yet still inviting and warm. The barn doors to close off the bedroom and the bathroom were great ideas. They were easy to work, quiet and space efficient. I will say that my mattress could use replacing soon. It was tilted just a bit to one side. It wasn't too bad but hopefully it will be rotated out before to long. The TV was nice with a nice picture. They even had a Netflix option on the remote. The only disappointment was that we were unable to our Roku to get HBO. Though there were empty USB ports on the back of the TV, we couldn't change the input options with the remote that was provided. The whole staff was so great and friendly - from the front desk staff to the valet to the restaurant staff. Everyone just seemed so happy! There was an event going on when we first arrived and there was no valet to be found but once the event was over we never again had a problem finding the valet. They were very efficient in bringing the car around. We could even text them so the car would be waiting for us. We were able to order some snacks from the bar and they packed them up for us. We brought the food and even drinks back to enjoy in our room.

Yelp
We recently stayed at the Canopy Hilton in October 2021. Hotel is brand new and it was exciting checking out a new place. Rooms were nicely appointed, lighting was fantastic, as was the bed (very comfortable and soft). Location was also good. I gave four stars because at $550 for one night, I would have expected a little more (higher end finishes, loose bath robe hanger on wall, shower door hit toilet when opened). Don't get me wrong, room was great. Overall, nice hotel. Will stay again, hopefully at a lower price. Though, I don't think it edges out the Press for #1 in Portland, IMHO.

Yelp
I travel fairly often for business, before Covid at least. This hotel sucks. Go somewhere - anywhere - else. The only reason we didn't check out after the first few hours is because my mother in law booked it for an extended family getaway and we didn't want to hurt her feelings. Never again. I will crush them like a tin can if she ever wants to stay here again. To start, We booked a king room which they switched to a 2 queen room and then denied it in spite of the email confirmation I showed. They fixed that after 15 minutes of arguing with the person at x check in. What is the point of the email confirmation if you have to argue about it? Parking at this hotel is $38/ day but you MUST use their valet. You can self park for $45/day in the same lot. It is not a protected lot in any way. The hotel doesn't provide housekeeping unless you ask for specific things. It's like a la carte housekeeping. Our room was clean when we arrived though. This is the only compliment I have though. The bed in our room was lumpy and unusable. I slept on the floor which was a vast improvement. The pillows were all flat too. Oh and the bed was so old and out of shape that it visibly was not level. The sliding doors in our room would not open or close properly. They were not installed correctly. I don't have a recommendation for Portland, but do skip this dump and try somewhere else.

Yelp
Nice hotel but honestly I was expecting more. We paid $541 a night $40 if we had to repark the car. Room was decent and staff was nice but nothing special. We paid a couple hundred dollars a night less in Boston for a nice Residence Inn with full kitchen, nice breakfast included and everything worked. Our bathroom water closet has a rolling barn door that kept opening, no fan, a view of the AC units and the bed was not comfortable. Way too soft. I think at the same price as Residence I would have been ok but honestly it wasn't as good for way more money.

Yelp
This hotel was the perfect choice for our stay in Portland. It was quiet, clean & modern, centrally located within walking distance of both the waterfront and downtown districts. Our room was very comfortable, with a rainfall shower and lovely soaps. The complimentary morning coffee in the lobby's Fresh Salt resturant was gourmet quality and responsibly sourced. The Fresh Salt restaurant has a delicious and varied menu for breakfast and lunch, with truly world-class croissants and baked goods. Each room has glass water bottles that you can fill up with cold flat or sparkling water at the fountain across from the elevator. We greatly appreciated how kind and helpful the staff were, from the front desk to the restaurant to housekeeping. Even our dog was completely welcomed there, which was very important to us! Also deservedly popular at night, was the rooftop bar and light menu. A final point to underscore about the quality of the staff and the difference personnel can play in one's experience--at all times their professionalism and dedication to their guests was on full display.

Yelp
The Canopy was an awesome hotel. Super clean & high end. The rooftop bar was beautiful as well as the restaurants on the first floor. All of the food was delicious as well. Great location to Old Port and you can easily access any area of the downtown. The only negative I had was the valet cost per day was fairly high and you have to pay it unless you want to deal with street parking meters. Other than that it was a great experience!

Yelp
Despite the nice location, this hotel is not worth the price. I love a premium hotel with valet and bell service. This was not that. Our stay began with the front desk staff incorrectly coding our key cards, so they did not work on the elevator or the room. Our room had a view of another building's roof. The room decor was early 2000s tv remodeling greige complete with lazy barn doors in the bedroom and bathroom. The bed came with no comforter, but just a single top sheet and a thin grey throw. The lobby by the elevator had a countertop ice and filtered water machine that dispensed less than a handful of ice and a quarter cup of filtered water before shutting down completely. So no filtered water or ice, ok, what about vending machines? No luck there. Room service, nope. Instead of armchairs and ottomans, our room came with a couple of grey 1960s style molded plastic chairs. Not exactly comfortable. Sad, disappointing, and an embarrassment to the brand.

Yelp
Hotel is just okay, but for the price, I expected more. The highlights were the rooftop bar (which we loved for drinks before dinner in downtown Portland), the fitness center (nice cardio and weights equipment), and of course, the location. The staff and valet attendants were helpful and sweet. The cons, from our experience: the room was not as clean as it should have been when we arrived. Crumbs and hair on the floor, clearly had not been vacuumed but rather just a very surface clean. Sheets seemed clean but the blanket on top of the bed was not... more crumbs and dirt. We couldn't get the remote to the TV to work, and the walls of the hotel are extremely thin so we couldn't sleep due to noise around us. And the air conditioning system clicked on and off all night -- a sound that drove us insane! We enjoyed our stay but wouldn't stay here again.
