My husband and I saw a flyer about a Down on the Farm Fest which was free parking and $5 per person above the age of 5. This was such a cute event and I found out they have many throughout the next few weeks. They have a schedule located on their website: they have a beautiful castle and there was a wedding being held there today. When we walked in, we saw tons of cute shops and tons of different vendors inside the shops. We also saw tables of different vendors as well. They have Yates cider and donuts, along with other food. They also had some food trucks, a petting farm, face painting, games, and live music. The kids absolutely loved it. Everyone working there had great customer service. They were all super nice and helpful. The space was nice and clean and it wasn't overly crowded. We had a great time.

We had an amazing time. Haven't been there in many years and was not disappointed. Went to a couple of your very cool shops and spent some money. But had a great time. One of the stores had a psychic and she was absolutely amazing 👏. My favorite things!! Amazing 👏 🤩

Google
Disappointing. The place needs more care and looked much better online than in reality. There were more vendors than visitors, which gave it a sad atmosphere. Expected more seasonal drinks for Oktoberfest. Prices weren’t bad, and the pottery shop was very cool, but overall the experience was underwhelming. Might try again during another festivity, but first visit was disappointing.

We visit every year with our family before Christmas and are very happy with it, the decorations and costumes are different every time.

Google
Went to see the Wonderland Lantern Stroll and it was well worth the time and money. The grounds were very clean, the staff was very hospitable, and all the shops were super cute. We look forward to going back for other events in the near future. Please see below pictures for some highlights along the stroll.

Went to the Hippie Fest today and saw mostly vendors and stores. Entertainment was much later in the day and unfortunately it was so hot and humid I couldn't wait. Cute area. Many of the stores had similar tourist items. Vendors with booths had lots of hippie themed wares.

I have now attended three events in the past year at Canterbury Village, Alice in Wonderland , Halloween and the Holiday Stroll. I feel like everyone who works here enjoys their job, and they are a cohesive family like atmosphere .All the actors put their heart and soul into it to make it a very rewarding experience for young children. We ate at Café 65 and the staff was so friendly. The lead staff member even individually wished all patrons in the dinner a merry Christmas. The bathrooms are always clean and I like that it is very organized and easy to check in. I can’t say much for the stores since I have never really been in them, but I hope they are getting some business . Hands -down, the price of this event is always a great deal compared to others in area . Keep up the good work Canterbury Village. I can’t wait to come to another event in the summer.

Mary L.

Google
Very pretty, but should only be 10 dollars. I won't return next year at over 20 dollars each! The best part was the person who played the Grinch. He was right in character. At that price they should offer free hot cocoa.

Yelp
Canterbury Village is a great experience for every age. The current holiday stroll has something for the whole family. The lights are everywhere and flows nicely throughout the Christmas village. Plenty of shops and eateries to stop in and warm up or grab a warm hot cocoa or specialty drink. I loved that they setup and goat and sheet feeding pen. The kids and adult's thoroughly enjoyed this experience. The photo opportunities are endless and brings back the traditional family Christmas vibe. The bar and warming area at the end was great, plus the grinch was there for photo ops. Lots of seating in the bar area or outside around the open barrel fires. You'll love this experience for the whole family.

Yelp
Canterbury Village Came here for Bluey meet and greet. Was enjoyable for the kids. Good way to bring new guest and old. Good for business. Free event. Nice! Interesting place. They have this place setup to have a middle age(MEDIEVAL) feel. Probably because some of the buildings are round. This place is similar to "Crossroads village and huckleberry railroad" in Flint. Unique shops and your typical stores too. They do have a "Yake's cinder mill store" here too. This place also has a building that resembles a castle from 1890's for wedding events. Available for rent too. Come check it out if you have never been here. Highly recommended

Yelp
I had a lovely time doing the holiday stroll, walking around, and enjoying the holiday displays and lights. Plenty of shops if you want shop, food if you want to eat, and hot chocolate to drink if you want to warm up. You can even see Santa. You can also buy crafts from local artists, and there are live performers/singers around too. It really put me in the holiday spirit.

Yelp
A tale of two experiences.... 3/11/23 I went on a Saturday, for which there was a special event happening, and most entrances were gated off and they were selling a ticket to enter the grounds. It was a St Patrick's Day event I didn't know about and so I asked what was included in the ticket? Apparently only entry to the places where I would need to spend money to do anything anyway? I was so confused why they would want to charge a $10 ticket fee in order to buy a beer at the bar or buy a gift in a shop?! No live band performing in the common area that would warrant a cover fee. No giveaways or promos that would warrant a cover fee. I didn't even see decorations on the aluminum gates they put up to direct people to pay for tickets to enter the grounds. I am so confused why they would set up a pay wall and reduce access to the business who pay for space in Canterbury Village. That just seemed like a terrible business idea. 3/18/23 I was craving some apple cider fix and remembered seeing Yates Cider Cafe on my first visit to Canterbury Village. Apparently this time there was no "gate fee" to enter the grounds and actually visit the businesses at Canterbury Village. I enjoyed my time at Yates and loved the gift shops that were open, and really just couldn't make sense of why Canterbury would make it MORE difficult to access these businesses when an event may be happening. Something needs to change with the way they host events or set up access to shops and restaurants to make it easier to support these small businesses.

Yelp
Do not book an event through Pete or the other guy I forgot his name. They will rob you. Disgusting business practices.

Yelp
Really sad We bought breakfast with Santa tickets This was our first time coming here for my daughters 6th birthday For the absurd amount of money we paid the food was horrible!!! I mean hurt my stomach bad and I'm usually not picky but I can't help but be when you charge so much! The fruit looked like it was frozen and thawed which makes fruit mush Everything was soaked in grease the eggs (scrambled) were legitimately wet from not being cooked all the way It's 24.99 a person plus tax so for my husband me and two daughters we spent over 100$ for me to eat one piece of French toast him to not eat at all and the only reason I'm not furious is that my toddlers ate some of what was there after I discarded their undercooked eggs For paying that amount I really wish we would have gone elsewhere for her Yes you could get photos with Santa but you were required to take them yourself Santa also hardly looked like "Santa" more so a man with a beard in his 50-60s? He wasn't wearing a red suit None of their inflatable decorations were blown up at 12-2pm while we were there which was also super disappointing because I thought they'd have that going for events you pay 100$ for? My daughters had an ok time but were very confused on Santa really being Santa the only positive was the staff serving drinks in the pub / cleaning were very friendly If we were to ever come back we definitely know not to do something like this

Yelp
I have been coming to Canterbury village for many many years. This was my first time coming to Fright Night though. We originally had Tix for Thursday night but that cancelled that event and our tickets were good for fri or sat. It was weird that they didn't offer a refund. The tickets were $200 for two with 4- VIP passes to four different haunted houses there. I honestly would not get four of them again though. Two was plenty and we only participated in three of the four as it was. There have been a lot of changes to Canterbury over the past several years. One of my favorite pubs, the C pub is not the same at all. For events like this they are only open for beer. I used to love their food. My sister and I would meet up there and eat and drink. I don't know if it will end up opening and being fully operational again. I hope it's like this just because of events. But who knows. COVID changed a lot of things. The big castle that used to be a huge Christmas store is now a church. This was one of my favorite places to buy ornaments and stuff. Super sad to see that go. The haunted houses were set up in the other castle. This is usually a restaurant or you can get married or have events here. Very unique setting for a wedding. I have been to several events over the years here. They now have a giant night club and bar. This shocked me. It's huge with music but also felt cozy. We really enjoyed it in here. I'm not sure what their hours normally are but we would definitely like to check it out when there isn't an event going on. There was also a big area set up with tables and fire pits. It turned out to be a perfect fall night and the fire was cozy. They sold s'mores kits so kids were roasting marshmallows. Super fun! They spent a lot of money and time on this event and really they did an amazing job. The actors scared the hell out of me. Mission accomplished. They have a haunted rail too which is separate and more kid friendly. We didn't go to that area but it was super lit up and looked really cool. Overall this was a fantastic event and we can't wait to come back next year. I plan to check out their future events as well. If they did this much for Halloween I can only imagine what they will do for Christmas!!

Yelp
Greedy, greedy greedy. $10 entrance fee to look at shops? Talk about bait and switch! Went to the hippie fest, said it was $5 a person @ door on website. Went to gate to get tickets there was a slash with MARKER through the $5 and a big $10 per person written in marker. Oh, and you pay a separate fee for parking at the door too. TF? Just tell them you walked there. We walked around the whole place in 15min. Total waste of money. We'll never be back and I tell everyone how unethical the owners must be to do this to the general public. Should have reported this to bbb bc people drive for over an hour to get there.

Yelp
A nice stroll thru a number of shops in old world themed buildings, but much more fun when they have one of the evens with the vendors in tents as there is much more to see. The C-Pub is a nice place to stop for a burger and drink. Also Yates Cider Mill has a very nice building with cider, donuts, ice cream, and baked goods. Honestly if they charged admission, I would not give it this high of a rating, but as a free attraction it is worth a visit. They are also available as a webbing/event venue, and do a great job. One of my friends did their reception here and it was a great event. I wish they would build some more permanent vendor booths and add a bit more to it.

Yelp
Went for the Halloween houses! Great time with family and friends. Loved the garden and the asylum. They don't touch you and the hiding spots were similar throughout, but still a spooky time. I would recommend this for any group looking for a great night. After we danced the night away in the pub and couldn't stop talking about the night! Great spot for #memories. Ps - they don't serve iced tea :/

Yelp
CANTERBURY VILLAGE does *NOT* follow Michigan's Emergency MASK order. They do not require their shoppers or staff to wear masks or practice social distancing, nor do not limit the number of shoppers. They are blatantly defiant. When I made a comment on their Facebook page regarding the lack of Mask wearing, they immediately deleted it ~ Truing to hide the fact that they are non-compliant! Canterbury Village also puts on a haunted house every year called "Terror in the Village". Hundreds of people visit it. Someone on their Facebook page asked if they needed to wear a mask, they replied "NO MASKS ARE REQUIRED" When I questioned them again, my comment got deleted AGAIN...and then I was blocked! They have completely lost my business! I will not give my money to a business that does not care about the safety of their shoppers! IF YOU VALUE YOUR SAFETY & HEALTH, I WOULD AVOID CANTERBURY VILLAGE LIKE THE PLAGUE! SHAME ON THEM!

Jonathon C.

Yelp
The reason for only 2 stars is because of the Breakfast wjth "Santa". When we first walked in my wife and I were genuinely confused if the man was Santa or not. He looked like Santa's younger nephew who lost 60lbs, grey beard (not white), and was not wearing anything close that would resemble a Santa costume. Santa dressed more like he was ready to drink some beer in Germany during Oktoberfest. He never even introduced himself as Santa, so it was just a very odd experience. My daughter who is 7 was confused as well and even said "that's not the real Santa". The food was meh. The grinch was great, looked like the grinch, played the character well, and the village was nice with a variety of Christmas decor and shops.

Yelp
2019-09-14. Olde World Canterbury Village. Orion Twp, MI. Canterbury Village is located on Joslyn a short drive north off Hwy I-75. The village is exactly that, a small entourage of building with wooden European architecture. There are multiple entry points, all with their own parking lots. Among the buildings is a Yates Cider Mill. Not sure what was happen here this weekend, but there was definitely a festival of sorts. Tent booths littered the streets of Canterbury Village today as vendors and Artisans from all over came to showcase and sell their wares. You can find anything from personal accessories (jewelry and hair clips), to household trinkets like customized mason art jars, candles, and garden gnomes. They also had a mobile escape room ($10 pp), and a petting zoo ($1 for a cone of food), and bounce houses ($5 all day wristbands). Food ranged from you classic hots and hams, brats and wurst, gyros, shawarmas, enough variety to please most. Upon walking around a bit, I found out that it was Yates Cider Fest this weekend, hence all the hubbub. Next week will be Octoberfest (per one of the vendors), so if you miss it this weekend, there's always next. Let's hope summer sticks around right to the very end... I had visited Blake's earlier this year during Lavender Festival and tasted their cider and donuts. Now that I've had a chance to sample Yates, it's time for my yearly throwdown! Blake's: their blend of cider this year was definitely on the sweeter side, and the tartness was definitely on the subtle side. Acidity was well tamed and the cider went down like silk. Their donuts were a little chewier this year and the cinnamon sugar was not as generous as seasons past. Yates: unlike Blake's, Yates doesn't blend their apples, so the flavor is more pure. The crop of apples were not as sweet, and they too did a good job of keeping the acidity down. There was some tartness at the finish without any bite. Their donuts are smaller than Blake's like years past, and more thoroughly cooked; making them more firm without the density. This year, Yates too was less generous with the cinnamon sugar than years past. We have another close match this year. But considering all things, the winners are: Cider: Yates, they struck a better balance despite not being as sweet. Donuts: a super tough call here. The former donut by Yates was cooked as well as can be but is slightly edged out by the chewier dough of Blake's; however, both competitors drop in cinnamon sugar is the deciding factor here. And I have to give it to Yates. With the smaller doughnut, the decrease of cinnamon sugar held the ratio better. So there you have it, a clean win for Yates this year, congratulations Yates! All in all, Canterbury has old World charm just minutes off the new world highways. A small reprieve if you're looking for the simpler life. While it's not as old as Mackinac, it holds its own. It has a Hallowe'en event and an indoor carousel! 4 stars. If You would like to experience more, come dine-with-me.yelp.com I'd love to have your company... Bon Appétit!

Yelp
I paid $50 for myself and two children for the holiday stroll. I had a timed entry and I assumed that was because social distancing was going to be enforced. There was NONE! There was a huge crowd just to get in and once in, there was absolutely no way to stay 6 feet away from others. My family and I rushed through with anxiety so it was not a pleasant experience. I complained on their Facebook page about our experience. I did not use foul language nor was I rude. Instead of reaching out to me to see how they could make it right, they blocked me from their page. I have never had that happen to me before. In my opinion, this business cares more about money than the safety of their costumers. I will never be back.
google avatar

Merry C.

Yelp
It was very crowded. Nice displays but I don't understand why all the holiday events were separated. Didn't know where to vote

L P.

Yelp
it cost me $260 to take 6 adults, 3 children and 1 toddler for the 2023 Holiday stroll. it was so disappointing. I could drive through a subdivision and see more lights. Most of the characters were not animated. they just stood and waved. the Grinch was a good one, he really played his role. they also kept some of the Halloween decor up and just put Santa hats on them. I would never suggest paying to do this. it's definitely not worth it.

Yelp
Really sad they closed so much of this place. It was nice to have just some of the Christmas spirt close to home that Frankenmuth has to offer. Loved to come here in the winter months for cider and donuts. I don't seem them re expanding again unfortunately now a church has moved into a portion of it. Still enjoy visiting the shops along the back!!

Kim A.

Yelp
The Ghost walk was a joke. Charged $20 plus $5 for parking to have A VERY DRY lady walked us up to buildings and explained the ghosts there. This you can see for free on You Tube. No shops open, nothing!!! Took under an hour and was one of my more disappointing ventures. Canterbury Village, I won't be back.

Jamie M.

Yelp
This place is a money pit. They charge a gate fee to enter for events, and then every activity in the event cost extra. The events they put on are hardly worth it even without an entrance fee. If you go, be prepared to spend at least $100 for something that could be done for free at many places.
google avatar

Yelp
A cute village with fun things to do for kids. The gift shops are expensive of course, for random things that no one really needs but they're gift shops ‍ we enjoyed the cider mill and had an apple turnover and cider slushy, a quick sweet treat. They have activities for kids during the summer which is great. Everyone here was very friendly and we had fun looking at all the flowers and roaming the shops

Yelp
Was very disappointed in the amount of people NOT wearing a faceask or staying 6feet apart. Was when told by a guy on a golf cart if I didn't like it then leave. So we left.

Yelp
We pulled into check the place out and were greeted very rudely by the owner. He swore at us and was very unprofessional. Definitely not a place that I would take my family.

Yelp
Potential.. Beyond Olde World, Lake Orion has a quaint downtown with Cobblestone Streets and a gorgeous Lake (Lake Orion) to add to the tourist attraction. Olde World is a unique place to visit, old buildings, shops, and an old town vibe. As I saw in other reviews it was not as busy as I thought it should be, I feel they can upgrade a few shops and add stores as wee as market this place to drive more people here. The obvious anchor is "Always Christmas" which is a great place to go, in august it did put us in the Christmas spirit as we made some purchases. The Bronner's Christmas is better as well as Frankenmuth but we enjoy Old World as it is closer to Metro Detroit and so much more to do in the Metro area then all the way up north in Saginaw. When going to Olde World check out the entire grounds, stop in all the shops and just enjoy what it has to offer.

Yelp
Canterbury Village is such a cute little area, and it has so much potential. But, it doesn't seem to know what it wants to be. I went at the beginning of December, and there weren't very many people there, and there didn't seem to be much going on. I wandered in & out of the stores, where there was lots of Christmas stuff for sale (and nothing else, that I could see, except for some mass-produced art), but most of it just seemed cheaply made and kind of sad. The few little shops on the side that were open seemed to be more like artists' studios than actual stores, and the people in them, while acknowledging my presence, seemed rather bored. It seems this could so easily be a something more like Greenfield Village, with different shops showcasing different kinds of things, or an ersatz old-time village, like a permanent Renaissance Festival town, the way Frankenmuth pretends that it's a German town. The one thing that I didn't expect and was pleased with was a Yates Cider Mill store. They had lots of preserves, jellies, souvenir mugs, and they also sold ice cream, fudge, and, of course, doughnuts. I had planned to spend a good part of the day there, but after about an hour or an hour and a half, I felt like I'd pretty much done all there was to do.

Yelp
I'll always like Canterbury Village - especially around Christmas time. I've never experienced any problems while walking around the village, but I never really walk out with anything outside of some goodies from Yates Cider Mill. The Christmas items are on the expensive side but are targeted for the true collector. It was nice for them to have Santa available for some last second requests! :)
google avatar

Amy S.

Yelp
I sooooo loved it when the huge building was all Christmas. Now that it's a church they've really cut back, obviously. They still have some Christmas stores though. Nothing like before but its a nice little getaway once in a while since I love about 10 minutes away. They have things you won't find just anywhere and they have a lot of clearance items. Right around Christmas we being our boys there to see everything lit up. Who doesn't love Christmas lights?!

Yelp
Now you all know that I try hard to go out and do as much as I am able to do with the painful nerve disease that I have! We had friends visiting us from Scotland, and wanted to take them someplace "different" yet that would make them feel "closer to home! Sooo we took them to visit "Canterbury Village"! I must say that I still enjoyed Gordon Heslop's Scottish shop & his Irish shop also! I even picked up a few Scottish gifts! Though we were sad that he wasn't there that day at all! We did speak with a very nice shop lady who helped us with both shops and she was so kind! A bit later we headed towards a tea shop! It was new and we hadn't been there before! Oh my! There were so many beautiful and wonderful things in that store! I wanted to buy all of it! I got a few very wonderful xmas gifts for family members!! I even got some cute items for myself!! One thing that i need to add is that there wasn't anyplace open to get just a cup of coffee or a small snack! We visited their "big" Christmas shop and it was a lot of nothing and more of just "junk" to buy! Everything looked very cheaply made and "cheap looking"! I didn't buy anything at their "Christmas store", which used to be, or so I thought...was their "main attraction". It wasn't nice inside or even clean & as I already mentioned, their merchandise was very "dollar store-ish! One thing that turned out well, was that our friends who were visiting from Scotland, found a nice lady who was also from Scotland...and she worked there! They truly enjoyed their long blether with her! (A long talk).. And then we headed home again. We won't be making the one hour plus trip drive there any longer, as its gone downhill quite a bit!

Yelp
Canterbury was a fun and festive place to go to during the holidays. I went last week, and the village was open until 9:00p.m. After the holidays the normal hours are usually 10-5:30p.m. I only went to four specialty shops because it was way too cold to keep walking around the village! The first store I ducked into turned out to be the Village Quilt Shoppe, and I scored a nice lil' organizer for $2.99. Next, I went inside the two story Canterbury gift store. I mostly found typical gift store items like candles, costume jewelry, housewares and coffee mugs. I found a small Celtic store where I bought some vanilla incense. I saved the best store for last which was the Aldridge's Always Christmas store. I loved Aldridge it was also two levels like the gift store, and full of Christmas heaven! After shopping my boyfriend and I decided it was only right to eat dinner at the Kings Court Castle. The castle is also a banquet hall. The dining area is cozy and open with a huge flat screen in the center. I was surprised to see a reasonably priced double sided one page menu! The menu choices ranged from a classic hamburger to Filet Mignon. My boyfriend ordered a reuben sandwich and I ordered a stuffed tomato salad. My dinner consisted of two tomatoes stuffed with tuna salad, and baked mozzarella cheese on top. It was served with fresh fruit and I pretty much devoured it! My boyfriend ordered the fried mushroom appetizer, and it was delicious. Also, the mushrooms are literally the size of tangerines! Our bill was around $20.00... incredibly decent for what we had! If you really enjoy going to Frankenmuth and Bronners Christmas Wonderland, then Canterbury is a closer alternative. I am not saying that it's the same experience as going to Frankenmuth, but there are similarities like the year round Christmas theme and the 18 specialty shops surrounding the village.
google avatar

Kate B.

Yelp
This place was built to rival Frankenmuth, with it's "Ye Olde England" flavor. The economy has caused some hardships but they are rebuilding the business as a entertainment/conference/wedding center. There is a wedding chapel and restaurants and conference areas. The shopping is hit or miss. The Enchanted Cottage is lovely, with many sweet fairy themed items, plus a tea shoppe in back. Highland Fling has all your kilt and Gaelic needs. Some of the other stores are uninspired and I swear the stock in a few hasn't moved since 2007. Always Christmas is very uneven-there are lots of weird Xmas stuff and yet also a great Dept.56 area that is well-laid out and delightful to look at and enjoy, They have a great selection of Clothique Santas if you collect them. I would go for the few places that are good and hope things get better as Michigan gets better.
google avatar

Jacy S.

Yelp
Visited Canterbury Village tonight and I was very happy to see that they still sell some Christmas stuff (I'm glad they didn't ditch the whole thing after all. I was worried they did, LOL). THANK YOU CANTERBURY VILLAGE FOR KEEPING THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT ALIVE!!! Their new Christmas shop is Canterbury Christmas Market, located on the top floor of the same building as Made in Michigan Market. They had a great selection of ornaments to choose from for being a smaller format. I picked up a cute sparkly Santa ornament for a good discounted price. Made in Michigan had a good variety of local products, including some Christmas-themed art, handmade jewelry and accessories, and souvenirs representing several Michigan cities. I also checked out Scott's Farm General Store, which sells local honey, jam, snacks, and more. I got some honey and apple butter. I also went to the Yates store to pick up my favorite cider and donuts. The Christmas lights throughout the village were very cool to walk through. They also played Christmas music in many of the stores as well. If you like Christmas and supporting local businesses, Canterbury Village is your ultimate destination. I will be going back! Also, I don't understand what some people are saying about Canterbury not enforcing the face mask and social distancing orders. They ARE enforced.

Linda R.

Yelp
Manager / owner was not a mask tonight at the WDET comedy night. In spite of signs stating it was required. I know he was management as he was giving instructions to staff and also was handling money. Taking to staff right in their face.

Yelp
Second biggest Christmas store in Michigan. First most depressing place in Michigan. It was all kind of gloomy, deserted and run down. This was on a Sunday in December. The Christmas store had that "going out of business" smell, although I don't think it was. Dusty, torn and stained carpeting, not enough merchandise to fill the space. Really weird and creepy ornaments like the one that was a fish with a small turkey dangling from its butt. There was a neat pavilion in the center of the complex that had an old fashioned little merry go round. My 2 year old loved it. We had dinner at the King's Court. VERY neat building. Soaring staircase and suits of armor everywhere. OK food with dirty wine glasses. Also, everything but the restaurants closed at 6 pm on a Sunday in December. In summary, I would recommend visiting if you are very bored, have very low expectations, and don't have to drive too far.

Yelp
Definitely not what it once was. My wife and I have been taking the kids there to pick out ornaments for 10 years. Ever since they downsized the store the place has been going down hill. Even the donuts at Yates tasted manufactured.

Yelp
Great place to bring your family and friends. My girlfriend and I come here all the time and cannot get enough of Canterbury. It will always have a special place in our hearts. It's cute, quaint, and modest. Sure, it may seem a bit run down, but there just isn't a huge market for the types of stores that Canterbury provides (Traditional, heritage-related Irish and Scottish shops). Which is a real shame. It is everyone's duty who visits to help keep these amazing shops open, and keep the fantastic employees employed! The architecture of the village is very reminiscent of English or Scottish architecture, and the King's Court castle looks amazing! The Always Christmas store has an amazing selection of ornaments, and is built in what appears to be either a mansion or a castle. They have an amazing Department 56 Collection and the store itself is just worth checking out whether or not you're into that stuff! The clock shop is also very unique. it's amazing that such a place like Canterbury Village exists in an area where all you can find is chain stores and restaurants.

Yelp
reviewing different aspects of the village I worked by that area for a long time and never noticed that place , until my friend pointed it out to me, you park and everything is within a walking distance, the Christmas stores were magical , room after room after room , the staff was very friendly and helpful. I noticed they had a yates cider mill there I grabbed a coffee it was really good and the jams were to die for, then me and my buddy walked around discovered many small antique shops, then we found a bar that had some of the best pizza and one of the best beer collections in Michigan. we got destroyed, I have no idea why this place is not very popular it seemed like a great time to me and my friend I will for sure be back there soon.

Yelp
Kind of cute place but TERRIBLE customer service. I bought over $100 worth of ornaments yet the cashier, who rudely did not acknowledge me, put her finger in my face when I asked if I should check out at another register. I've never worked in retail, but I'm pretty sure a simple, "I'll be right with you" would've been appropriate. Her name was Bev by the way. I will definitely choose English Gardens over this place any day. So much for olde world charm.

Yelp
whoa! what happened to this place? we went back last week and the Always Christmas store is less than half the size it used to be. Smelled very musty. When we tried to leave we saw that one exit was blocked by a crane and the other exit was blocked by a man on a ladder. We were trapped among the weird ornaments!! we did manage to escape and will not be returning

Yelp
The Always Christmas store is F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C! The negative reviews here have me dumbfounded! First off, the outside row of window displays are dressed up in imaginative, old-fashioned and homey Christmas scenes, like the old Hudson's store Christmas window displays back in the day. Life-size Christmas elves and Mrs. Claus rolling pie dough at her kitchen table! The displays / props look like they belong on a Hollywood set! Once inside, the store was PACKED with the most interesting Christmas ornaments I've found. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy visiting Frankenmueth, but these ornaments are a step above in terms of quality and design. And they are organized by theme and color. Plenty of German and Polish Christmas ornaments, antique-looking ornaments, unique ornaments I've never before seen - AND nothing tacky! I have traveled a lot both within the U.S. and Europe, and never have I found such fantastic Christmas items! You also can't beat their prices - sale or no sale! The only negative I saw was that there were very few other people shopping the day I was in there. My mother-in-law shops there frequently and is also usually one of only a few people shopping. Not sure if it's their location, or the negative reviews? but I for one will definitely be going back. The service at the counter was also pleasant and polite. I couldn't ask for a more delightful Christmas ornament shopping experience. And yes, I left with a bag full of goodies that didn't cost more than $30. If you're looking for cookie-cutter Christmas ornaments, then maybe this isn't for you, but for unique, one-of-a-kind ornaments that look like treasured heirlooms, I have two words for you...Just GO!!! P.S. The Pavillion with Carousel is really a unique destination for children and their parents. It's a shame there are so few places like this in the metro Detroit area.

Yelp
Having done the Bavarian Christmas of Frankenmuth and finding mouth blown glass ornaments little to my liking, I looked forward to sampling the familiar English delights of Canterbury Village. Given I'm mostly English in heritage, the Tudor roofs and familiar rounded turrets of the village strike a happy chord in my soul. It's a good sign when I can name the plants in the landscaping because I grew up with all of them, and I'll need to visit in nicer weather to appreciate them all. Showing up right before Hallowe'en may not be the ideal time to see Canterbury at its finest. The remnants of their weekend Hallowe'en celebration the day before were in evidence, notably lots of pumpkins, straw bales, and a flapping tent over lonely picnic tables. We sorely would've liked the bonfire given the northerly wind really bit. There were still a fair number of people drawn into the main attraction, "Always Christmas." I had no idea there were also quiltmakers, clocksellers, and an outlet store on the site. Always Christmas was our main stop aside from lunch at the Clansman and it definitely felt pretty sparse. I wondered whether I missed a stock delivery or they waited to ramp up with the ornaments on November 1. We did like the prospects of a super sale but that might account for the barren, open space. The first room was taken up by unrelated knick-knacks, like a grandmother clock and a bar with a carved Lions logo on the front, lots of cheap jewelry and watches, and not much Christmassy. We carried on past display cases of Precious Moments figurines, a flashback to my childhood when those were popular gifts from Grandma or a great-aunt who thought the little images were so twee. They're vaguely disturbing to me now. Per its name, the real highlight of the tour are the Christmas trees. Several decorated pines and firs stand at eye level displaying an assortment of ornaments, decorated in varied styles. The Scottish and Irish trees were amusing; Santa wearing a leprachaun suit or in full kilted regalia is definitely something to see once. Plaid balls nearly came home with me until we realized they wouldn't match our scheme. You could have a very festive Christmas with obligatory sheep jokes either way. Other ornaments included various glass figurines shaped into instruments or objects, like a baby carriage, and an amusing selection of Victorian decorations that I gleefully pointed out. Our tree absolutely needs pink umbrellas festooned with roses, and ornate ladies' shoes worthy of Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire. What Christmas tree in your fantasy doesn't need some lovely lacy gloves? Just one, I'm afraid, they're sold singly; $10 for the pair. The beau snickered over some particularly rococo tassles that managed to combine lace, glitter, beads, glass, rainbows, and flowers together. He couldn't quite fathom their use; I think they would make a splendid bell-pull for a batty steampunk heroine. But we didn't find too much here that begged purchase other than some lovely gold filigree balls that open so you can stuff them with whatever your heart fancies -- souls, crumpled glitter paper, tinsel, lights. Downstairs is given over to an eclectic section of sports-oriented ornaments, which I cannot understand the appeal of. I don't need the Tigers on the tree, thanks, and most are hideous to my eye. Another room contained plastic, wood, and dough ornaments resistant to toddlers, though not very attractive. The back section belongs to miniature houses. A central elaborate display of all the Dickensian houses and businesses is really darned impressive, and a punch to the bottom line if you decide you need to own them all. I want the teahouse for the mini scones alone. Canterbury is an experience, but I felt like we showed up at completely the wrong time and caught the Village half dressed. Maybe it was a lack of carollers or the totally barren shelves, but the place was empty of merchandise and Christmas spirit. The outdoor appearance gets 3 stars, easy. Very pretty.

Yelp
If you love Christmas you will love this place. They decorate so pretty for the holiday. They have cider and donuts on premiss as well. The variety in stores is amazing you can get any Christmas decor you want. Great place to take photos.

Yelp
I got married here and did most of the planning for the wedding. Brittany, who was our main contact, was very helpful and easy to get a hold of within a business day. The venue was the one of the most inexpensive in the area for an "All Inclusive" buffet and drinks package, but it did not seem inexpensive! The food was great, the venue and grounds are beautiful. Many people have said it was an awesome wedding and I know the venue was an important part. Thank you Canterbury!

Yelp
If good quality, flavorful food is what you are after, then this is NOT the place for you! I have eaten here for a wedding, a brunch, and a get-together in the pub. Never once could I say that the food was even average. I was served a salad with frozen lettuce at C's Pub, and what they pass off as pasta during the banquets was more like mostoccoli noodles lightly covered in ketchup! It's hard to believe that the same people who own Indianwood Golf Course also manage this place.

Yelp
This is the last place I would want to shop, but I'm sure others might like it-if they are gaga over Christmas. Not for me.

Yelp
we came to a 5pm movie. we were early and got a spot in the front row, over 6 feet away from the car next to us and with no cars on the other side of us. we expected this to be the case because it is advertised in the drive-in details that vehicles will be socially distanced. by the time the movie started, two cars had pulled in on either side of us - each no further than a foot and a half from our car. as we were sitting in the back of my explorer, and the other attendees were also sitting in the back of their van, we expressed concern to Canterbury Village staff. via messenger their response was apologetic and kind. then i received a call from the event producer. i calmly explained our concerns, and he told me that i was the first person to ever have this concern, and that if it bothered us we could just move, but he wasn't going to do anything. i said we didn't want to move because we arrived well before the people next to us had. when i explained that it was frustrating that the cars were not distanced as advertised, he said "okay in your opinion they're too close," and told me that if it was really that upsetting i should sue for false advertising. he went on to say that the spaces are 14 feet wide. as i tried to explain that my explorer is not 14 feet wide so there was no real reason for the lack of distance, he hung up on me. while we appreciated the employee that communicated with me via messenger, the behavior of the event producer was absolutely appalling.

Yelp
November 2011. Bah Humbug. Wow - what a disappointment. We took our grandson to visit the once vibrant village. We went to Always Christmas first. My how it's changed! Not only were there no Christmas carols playing (only outside) but the store was confusing and sparsely stocked (the last week in November!) Half of the lights IN the store weren't even on, nor were the animated critters, who had been such a draw for the little ones. On to the Toy Store - oh wait, not so fast. We found it dark and locked - and no longer selling toys, apparently reinvented as a Wedding Chapel. There were no lit lawn sculptures (only frames) nor were there any outside lighted trees, etc. Not very inviting on a cold November morning. The grounds were poorly maintained and all in all it proved to be a very dismal experience.
