Frida’s Cantina Mexican Restaurant Opens in Beverly Hills - Eater LA

"A surprise new restaurant has hit the Beverly Hills food scene this month. Cantina Frida is a more modern (and definitely more upscale) offshoot of the Frida Mexican Cuisine mini-chain that circles Southern California, but this location boasts more than 180 seats, a gold-tinted bar, and lots of private dining. The tony outlet at 252 N. Beverly Drive — formerly a Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse — features a menu filled with big plates of skirt steak and fish, as well as classics like tacos and enchiladas. The restaurant is open now for lunch through dinner." - Farley Elliott

A Jewel in the Heart of Beverly Hills — Cantina Frida If I could give more than five stars, I would. Cantina Frida is more than just a restaurant—it's an experience, a sanctuary of warmth and flavor tucked into the heart of Beverly Hills. From the moment you walk through the doors, you are embraced not just by the vibrant ambiance and inviting aromas, but by the people—every single person who works here treats you like family. There’s something inexpressibly beautiful about the service here. It’s not forced or scripted—it’s genuine, loving, and full of soul. The kind of hospitality you rarely find anymore. Whether it’s your first time or your fiftieth, they remember you, they welcome you, and they care for you as if you belong to them. And then there’s the food—exquisitely delicious doesn’t even begin to describe it. Every dish is a celebration of Mexican heritage, refined with elegance and heart. Each bite carries the love and passion of the kitchen staff, and you can feel it. The flavors are bold yet balanced, creative yet comforting. It's a feast not only for the palate but for the spirit. Cantina Frida is my favorite restaurant in all of Beverly Hills—not just because of the food, but because of the people, the atmosphere, and the sincere joy I feel every time I’m there. The owner, a dear friend, has created something truly special here—something that cannot be manufactured or imitated. To anyone reading this: come not just to eat, but to feel what it's like to be welcomed, cherished, and nourished in every sense of the word. Cantina Frida is a treasure, and I am forever grateful it exists.

I had a pleasant evening, eating very good food (some plates were better than others, but all were good) in a nice setting. Service was great, this is the kind of place where you happily leave a tip to the staff. I was particularly impressed by the work of the cleaning crew, I think they don't usually get specific compliments on Google reviews, but I observed them cleaning very thoroughly the tables, chairs, cushions and floor after every client.

Google
Good food and good decor but bad service because they only bring three shells for an order of fajitas that requires five shells. When I asked the waitress for two more shells, she said I needed to buy five more shells. I explained I only needed two more shells and she said that’s just the way in is. I explained if the extra order of shells came with five shells then the fajitas should come with five shells. She said she just works there and walked off. I was forced to correct this with the manger separately from the waitress who delivered poor service and had an attitude.

Google
I was hoping for a high-end, fresh meal given the Beverly Hills location and price tag, but honestly, I think I could’ve gotten a better meal from a taco truck. The flavors just didn’t hit the mark for me. That said, the people working there were very nice, and the waitress was super friendly and attentive, which made the experience more pleasant. The vibe was good, but the food didn’t quite meet my expectations.

Celebrating 2024 New Year’s Eve here. The food is so good. I feel full after having a big soup called poloze verde Drinks are awesome too. The hostesses at entrance are so linda. Love it. 😍 Cantina Frida, , offers a contemporary twist on traditional Mexican cuisine. Diners appreciate the lively ambiance, enhanced by high ceilings and an open, airy space. The menu features a variety of dishes, including seafood and vegetarian options, with popular items like the Cantina Nachos and Chips & Salsas. Guests frequently praise the attentive service and vibrant atmosphere, making it a popular spot for both casual meals and special occasions. This little sauce is super spicy 🥵. Challenge it if you dare 🤣 🥳 Happy New Year 🎊🎆

Yelp
We visited the first time last night and made reservations on Open Table. we requested a high chair in the notes for our daughter and they had one waiting for us at the table. food was quick to the table and very good. The environment was fun, inviting, and not pretentious. The waiter and management was very friendly and helpful. We will be sure to come back.

Yelp

Yelp
Surprised that I never have came to Cantina Frida in Beverly Hills before. When we came, it was packed and luckily we were able to get a table. Though I came her for a meeting, it was too loud to have a conversation. The ambiance was inviting, decor was elegant and service was impeccable. Guacamole- was made on the spot with the freshest ingredients. Avocado was creamy, and just the right amount of lime and spices. Ceviche Cantina- the shrimp was cooked, it was a beautiful presentation and vibrant. The flavors were also incredible. Carne Asada- the beef was well seasoned, and perfectly wrapped I fresh tortilla. Gobernador Taco- The melted cheese was a standout on top of the fresh shrimp. It had a delicate smokey flavor that was very tasteful. I highly recommend Cantina Frida if you are looking for a fine dining Mexican food experience.

Yelp
Great Happy hour 3-7 pm at the bar. Drinks are really good. Tried the HH tacos and guacamole which were good. Will come Back for the margarita and Paloma and maybe try something different on the food menu. Service staff was attentive.

Yelp
Valeria and Jonathan were absolutely the best! They waited on us and were so kind and attentive. The place itself was packed. I'd recommend to call before going as their was a private event and it took some time to get seated. Due to holidays, I anticipate it will only get busier with private parties. The music was a vibe. They were playing Rufus Du Sol and Fisher. After my Maracuya cocktail, nachos, and table side guacamole, I swear I was a kid at Disneyland. Easy parking next door with free city parking. Also Beverly Canon Garden is so beautifully decorated for the holidays that stopping by for dinner and drinks here and walking thru the courtyard was an absolute vibe.

Yelp
Love this place! I went there to celebrate Valentine's Day with my friends and the food turned out to be delicious! We even drank at the bar before our table was ready.

Yelp
The ambiance is great at this upscale Mexican restaurant in the heart of Beverly Hills. We walked in on a Sunday evening without a reservation and were promptly seated. They provided water and took our orders in a timely manner. The queso fundido was excellent -- fresh baked and bubbly with good seasoning and great tortillas to accompany it. I liked my enchiladas fine - they weren't the best I've had but solid. The churros were stuffed with cream and had a good caramel dipping sauce. Service was pretty decent but they did prematurely offer a dessert menu while we were still eating and took a second to refill our water pitcher. Having Sunday football on the many TV screens was a fun touch, but didn't take away from the nice atmosphere.

Ricky L.

Yelp
As always, great service, great food. Will be a forever customer. All the tacos are delicious and worth the price. Bar makes great drinks.
google avatar

Layla L.

Yelp
The food here is not good. I had the chicken mole poblano and it was a couple of chicken tenders like the kind you buy at Trader Joe's with like a jar of mole poured over it. It wasn't marinated and the chicken didn't really pick up the flavor of the mole. The "Spanish" rice was sad. It was a scoop of dry flavorless rice and looked like it came from a cafeteria. The only decent part of the dish were the maduros that had nice crisp edges. $32 for a crappy dish is not worth it. Also the "salsa" and chips is a tiny cup of puréed tomatoes, should be free not $4. Clearly this is a tourist trap.

Yelp
Great food & great ambiance. We loved our drinks. We will definitely go again. Our wait staff were very friendly.

Yelp
Such a cute restaurant, I've seen this place for a long time and finally came in today before a little shopping. Loved the look and vibe of this place would be great for brunch or dinner. Ordered the guac that was made table side and looked really. Ute but was extremely plain and bland. The drinks were good my tacos were okay but bf loved his burrito. Will fire be back! They had a private event in one of the front patio areas that would be cute for a girls dinner!

Yelp
Tasty food and nice atmosphere. Their drinks are also really good. They are usually very busy, make sure to make a reservation in advance.

Yelp
I'll have to say, this is the most disappointing restaurant I've been to in a while. The food was not good, came out room temp or cold. The kids menu "taquitos" were just cold rolled up tortillas with dried up bits of chicken. The enchiladas were not enchiladas at all, but the same cold, rolled up tortillas with some room temp sauces. I understand this isn't meant to be an authentic Mexican restaurant by any means, but this was just awful. Staff was nice though and the place was clean. However, they did forget our chips until the end of the meal and they never refilled my drink. Eeeeek! I wanted to like it too!

Vicki A.

Yelp
Great food overall although I can't believe they use tilapia for their fish tacos. Other choices were good. Service great, great ambiance. A few vegan and vegetarian options. Great drinks and great happy hour.

Yelp
Very yummy food. Good service and fun atmosphere. Definitely would love to come back.

Yelp
It's one of my favorite Mexican restaurants to dine in. I have been here several times over the past two years. My guy and I are return customers. Here's why... What we've tried: 1. Chips & Salsa, it's a must for us. Use to be free, but it's a $4 charge now. Chips are made in-house, fresh, crispy, and hint of salt. The salsa is not chunky, spicy puree. They offer red & green. 2. Guacamole is made table side, cost is $20, tasty and shareable. 3. Try the tacos, you can't go wrong, we've had the pastor, pork belly, carne asada, and polo. 4. Trio enchiladas, chicken (shredded) with tomatillo sauce. You get three enchiladas served with rice and beans. Try it, you will thank me later. I guarantee. 5. Camarones Al Ajillo, if you like shrimp, you must try. This is fresh prawns served in a butter garlic wine sauce over white rice. B-A-B-Y, your taste buds will dance. Pros 1. Great ambiance and location. Restaurant is nestled in Beverly Hills "Restaurant Row," as I refer to that particular area. During the Christmas season It's decorated beautifully with some great photo ops. 2. Inside, you have trees! Yes, trees (only 2), bringing the outdoors inside. I love it! 3. There is an outdoor patio area and outdoor sidewalk seating for those warm summer nights. 4. Friendly staff. Attentive. Waiters/Waitresses know the menu and are able to make confident recommendations and/or answer questions. 5. Delicious food, yes sir/ma'am, the food is A-M-A-Z-I-NG!!! 6. Nice bar area. 7. Versatile music selection, played at the right volume, you can still have a conversation with others at your table. 8. Restrooms are clean. Located upstairs. 9. TVs inside. Some seatings will have an obstructed view. Cons I honestly don't have a con. I enjoy the food, vibe, and receive consistent, great service and food. All around, Cantina Frida is a win for me. This restaurant has versatility. Date Night. Girls Nite. Guys Night. Family Night. Business Lunch. Solo Venture. Dress up or down. Heels or sneakers. Cantina Frida is perfect to fit your requests, style, and/or vibe. Let's talk price. It will vary depending on what you order, alcoholic beverages, etc. Expect to spend about $80 - $100 for two people, including an appetizer. Parking - nearby lots, under $10. Elevators inside lots can take you to the surface street. In any direction, the restaurant is half a block to a full block walking distance. I don't have an address for the parking lots. Here's my disclaimer...I'm a CA native, and I have been to a few states in Mexico; I can't distinguish from "authentic" Mexican food and CA Mexican food. I make that statement because I frequently hear how Mexican food in CA isn't authentic. For me, I consider Cantina Frida very good food (smile).

Yelp
Great service, cool atmosphere, delicious food, highly recommend! Relatively affordable considering it's in Beverly.

Yelp
OK, let's get this out of the way, this place isn't cheap. It's Beverly Hills, after all. But man! I LIKED this upscale Mexican cantina. The Margaritas, especially the Spicy, were yummy. Definitely get the guacamole, prepared table side. My pulpo (octopus) taco was delicious, but didn't stay in the tortilla. The skirt steak was excellent. Note: the steak can be a taco or a meal. Be sure your server knows what you want. This would make a great happy hour spot or a great dinner or lunch spot.

Yelp
This place is amazing! The staff is always nice and welcoming. The vibe and food here is amazing. Been back here like 4 times and it's over a 1 hr 45 mins drive for us from our home. So worth it :)

Richard A.

Yelp
We sat outside on a cold night and we were the only ones out there. I was concerned because sometimes you get ignored when you're out there this was not the case. They all checked on us constantly We'd been there dozens of times and the food and service was exceptional as always.
google avatar

Lucianna W.

Yelp
Ambiance was great! Super cute inside and we sat at an indoor table next to the sidewalk (the wall is open to outside). Our server Pablo was very nice and attentive. We had the standard lime margaritas and they were really good. Everything was 5/5 for us but food was a 4/5. We had enchiladas suizas and fajitas and felt they were both good but lacking a little more flavor. Also no free chips and salsa but I'm sure that's the norm in Beverly Hills haha.

Yelp
Delicious, high-end Mexican food, interesting cocktails, and a really cool ambiance. I have been here several times and I am never disappointed. This is a solid choice for BH dining.

Yelp
Great restaurant! The atmosphere was fun, upscale, yet casual. The service was amazing. So many people came to attend to our needs without being annoying. The food was incredible. Very well-made good ingredients large portions. The cocktails are amazing and the fried ice cream was so good with lots of berries! I highly recommend this place we are definitely coming back.

Bo V.

Yelp
The food and service were great as usual! While the restaurant was packed, our table for 7 was ready for us. We were celebrating a birthday and our waiter made it a special occasion. Thank you!

Karol P.

Yelp
This restaurant is either a hit or miss. Food is not consistent. Some of the waiters have a bit of attitude and not accommodating. Only use this restaurant as your last result.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place while looking for a good dinner spot after spending a few hours at the Century City Mall with my fiancé. We're both vegetarian so we decided to get nachos and cheese enchiladas with green sauce. Both items were incredible and we will definitely be back. Pretty busy on a Friday night and the TV is huge. The staff was very friendly too! Parked at a nearby parking garage (tons in BH).

Yelp
Food was stupendous. Would have received a 5 just for the food alone. The reason for the 3 stars is for the service. A friend and I were walk-ins last Tuesday (March 5). It wasn't busy, in fact, the wait staff were off to the side talking amongst themselves to each other which later added to the frustration. We were in the area to attend the Jean-Michel Basquiat showcase exhibit at the Gagosian. The hostess put us in a small booth. (Which wouldn't have been a big deal if it wasn't for the fact that my dinner companion is 6'3, and me being 5'8. Our knees were touching.) The host continued to seat others in the larger tables. (We understood that we were walk-ins but the hostess continued to seat other 2-tops into bigger 4 top tables after us). Our server never approached us and instead attended a table next to us and another walk in. (I know it was a walk in because we had small talk when we were walking in to the restaurant with the other table who was seated in a bigger table than us). We watched as the other table sat after us was given water, had a server approach, them, and was even given an appetitezer. During this entire time we weren't asked if we wanted a drink, appetizer, or entree. I was quietly getting irritated with the lack of any service and during this long period I let my other party know that we should just get something small and maybe eat an entree and get a drink at another restaurant after the JMB show. (I had originally wanted to try the skirt steak and the special margarita). I finally was able to flag the server down who let us know she would be right back. We hungrily waited. When she finally came to our table, which was by the kitchen and close to the servers station, she asked us what we wanted to order. We ordered 2 glasses of water, a coke, the ceviche mixto, and the carnitas. The server seemed annoyed we didn't order cocktails because she repeated "Is that all for drinks?" after telling her "no thankyou" after she already asked us if we wanted a cocktail. The food runners were amazing, in fact the ceviche arrived before our drinks (water and coke). When the ceviche arrived we noticed it only came with four chips (2 each), so we ordered more with the server. The additional order of chips never came until we asked the food runner for chips, after asking the server twice. The chips came near the end of our meal after receiving our entree. The food runners were on point! Refilling our waters, coming out with the food in a timely manner. It was frustrating to see the server pay so much attention to the older couple sitting across from us and the other walk-in table that we had light conversations with earlier. I'm not sure if we were given less attention because we were younger, or that I was wearing "arty" jeans. We just weren't given the time of day. Let's move on from the service. (I'm still contemplating making a tiktok on the experience). The food was spectacular!!! The ceviche wasn't overloaded with too many Ingredients. The recipe is exactly what you expect of a good ceviche. Highly recommend as an appetizer! The actual ceviche serving proportions are extremely generous. (Just order some more tortilla chips on the side when you make the order). The carnitas melted in your mouth. It was slow cooked to perfection. The pork shoulder meat was moist, just the right amount of fattiness and extremely tender with just the right amount of spices. Will go back for this dish alone. We ended up ordering some flour tortillas to enjoy this shared entree that we turned into an appetizer. If we were given the time of day would have definitely ordered more items. Will come back but will be making a reservation in hopes of a better experience.

Yelp
Service was fantastic. Our server was very attentive as well as the other ones that served us. The verde sauce was the best one for sure. We also got a very nice salsa with our tacos. My friends chicken mole was very delicious too! Would recommend 10/10.

Yelp
Love this place! Whether you're vegetarian, vegan, or pescatarian- there's an option for you. Drinks and desserts are solid too. The atmosphere is cozy and on some nights there's live music and on others everyone is watching the game. It's a great atmosphere and fun dinner/drinks spot.

Yelp
Came back in November Francisco is amazing! He's so easy to talk to and took care of us! Drinks are food and happy hour menu is to check! I also did the regular menu before and can't beat fajitas
