The New Bay Area Restaurant and Bar Openings to Know This July | Eater SF

"Opened in Pleasant Hill by the Marcovici brothers, this casual Mexican spot has a notable Greek influence, offering items like Greek tacos with lamb and feta and grilled octopus in a lemon-oregano vinaigrette." - Dianne de Guzman

Google
Great food, happy hour specials (3-6pm), quick service and busy in both my visits. Nice interior but noisy with the high ceilings. Outside seating for the good weather. Make a reservation on Yelp so you don't have to wait.

Google
Loved it, as Cantina Jack's delivered an impressive experience for our team's happy hour! The customer service was excellent, with the staff paying extremely close attention to detail and being right on time with delivery. The happy hour menu had a great selection - definitely worth checking out. A call out was the guac and beef tacos. They also had to refill a salsa for us as, yes, it was very good. Did I say - look at the flights? Please👍 The space itself is modern and inviting, with large windows that fill the area with natural light, giving it a vibrant open feel. One star off only because there's still room to grow, but I'll absolutely be back!

Google
Fun take on Mexican food with an extensive tequila list. Met family here for dinner and it was the first time for all of us. We were seated right away and by an open window to enjoy the cooling down of a warm summer day. We shared an order of esquites and guacamole with chips, one had a chicken burrito bowl, one had the tacos Americana, one had the grilled snapper and I went with the watermelon salad and the Greek (lamb) tacos. We all enjoyed our selections. I will be back to try a tequila flight and some happy hour goodies.

Google
Service and atmosphere is nice. Some food was really good and some okay. The rice is a big No for me and my family, very disappointing. Ceviche was really good but really small portion. The fish tacos were also really good but it looks like its one fish cut up to make 2 tacos. Enchiladas were good but could not enjoy it with the rice. Beans were good. Overall I'd give this place a 3.5. Environment was nice, it was very clean and they played good music.

Came here to celebrate my niece’s confirmation. I ordered the fish tacos, and a couple of margaritas. Their fish tacos was very good. Margaritas is very good. Mother had pollo Al carbon- she said it was a bit dry but good. We also ordered their guacamole. Very fresh and good. I would definitely come back.

Google
I am amazed by the taste and quality of food and exceptional service I receive each time I eat at Cantina Jack’s. Restaurant owners and servers should visit Cantina Jack’s to learn what customer service and excellent serving truly means. Just go there and observe and you will find out for yourself. I went there with my family to celebrate my wife’s birthday and they made our evening special. Cantina Jacks’s is not just about the taste or quality of food; it’s about the whole dining experience and how they make you feel. Thank you Jose and Luis and the wonderful people at the kitchen. Keep doing what you are doing!

Google
Legitimately the best dining experience in the area. Great food, great marks, great happy hour, GREAT SALSA. If I were to be on death row, this might be my sekection for my last meal.

Google
I stopped by this restaurant yesterday and was genuinely impressed. The Wi-Fi was fast and reliable—perfect if you need to get a bit of work done or just stay connected. What really stood out was the service. Luis and Omar were fantastic—friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience feel welcoming and smooth. You can tell they care about the guests. The food was great, but honestly, the warm atmosphere and excellent service are what will bring me back. Highly recommend for a casual visit, remote work session, or just a relaxing meal.

Yelp
The fish tacos are the best I've ever tried, service is great, we eat there several times a month!

Yelp
Cantina Jack's is located in the heart of the Downtown Pleasant Hill shopping center. I met a group of friends here to celebrate a belated birthday for one of them on 05/28/2025. My friends had already gotten a table when I walked in at around 5:30pm. Being this was my first time here, I was immediately struck by the beautiful interior. The color scheme was vibrant, and the natural sunlight gave the room a warm and welcoming feel. There was a large bar area with TVs showing different sporting events. Occupancy was about 90% full, which gave the room a lively atmosphere. A trio of starters, along with complimentary chips and salsa, were already on the table when I sat down. The starters - Carne Asada Sopes, Ceviche, and Queso Fundido, were all very good. Out of the trio, I liked the Ceviche the best. The seafood was fresh, and the taste was light and tangy. Our original plan was to order some HH tacos, but our server failed to take our order prior to the 6pm cutoff time. One of my friends thought she did that on purpose just so we have order from the regular menu (in order to get a bigger tip). I ended up getting the Sizzling Chicken Fajitas. While it tasted alright, they were stingy on the chicken. I only saw five or six pieces of it. Service was subpar. Our server was friendly but inattentive. Not only she failed to take our HH order prior to the cutoff time, she also didn't check on us during the meal. I had to flag her down once for refill, and another time the manager actually had to do her job for her. It was most disappointing. The total, with T/T, was north of $200. Honestly, the overall experience left a sour taste in my mouth. Return trip extremely unlikely. 2 stars.

Yelp
Arrived at happy hour (3-6 pm)and they have some great bargains on delicious tacos and draft beers and cocktails. I had two carnitas and one shrimp tacos, hot, fresh and yummy. The little woman had a cheese enchilada combo plate she thoroughly enjoyed, pinto beans, rice and tortillas included Busy, loud inside with tall ceilings. They have outside seating for the good weather. House salsa (almost like a tomato soup) with hot salty chips complementary. I will return for further menu sampling.

Yelp
Very good service and decent prices. Large portions which is nice. Very good cocktails with a huge selection of tequila and mezcal. Chips, salsa, carnitas burrito, steak salad, and flan were all tasty, maybe not quite as good as some more expensive sit down Mexican places, but pretty solid overall.

Yelp
This was my first time to visit. Parking was a little bit difficult, but eventually, I got a spot. The decor is great! They do not accept reservations and the wait was about an hour and a half. Food is amazing. The chips and salsa are a big favorite! (Not spicy). The rib-lets are an awesome appetizer. The chile verde sauce makes them super tasty and amazing. I got the steak fajita dinner plate with rice and beans. Meat is soft tender and delicious . The flour tortillas are also great and tasty.

Yelp
It's been a minute since I've eaten somewhere new, so when I wanted to catch up with an old colleague, she mentioned Jack's Cantina in Pleasant Hill. I checked out the menu beforehand and thought, "ok, let's see." I was pleasantly surprised--the décor was super cute and perfectly matched the Mexican flair. Their happy hour runs from 3-6pm, and I tried the pink guavarita, which had just the right flavor balance, along with fish tacos that were cooked to perfection. Service was excellent--friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to!

Yelp
So I was back there to introduce some more friends to this upscale Mexican restaurant. The hostess was busy on the phone so the gracious Crystal stepped in to help. We had a nice window seat. The restaurant truly feels very open and welcoming. The chips, salsa and water were continuously refilled. We ordered margaritas, fish tacos, shrimp fajitas and carne asada fajitas. The presentation was great. Fish and shrimp were delicious. The beef was a tad chewy. We finished with a slice of chocolate tres leche. Enough to share between the three of us. Discovered that Crystal is the AGM. Kudos to her and the team for a flawless evening.

Yelp
Can't wait to come back here! Went to happy hour last week for Taco Tuesday, fittingly. The margaritas hit the spot. I got a pink guavarita with the right amount of booze. The chicken taquitos were nice and crispy. I can still taste the veggie taco as if it were yesterday. Great flavor with a sweet potato bringing it all together. Others in our group got frozen margaritas and tacos, no complaints here! The hostess helped us when we wanted to switch the seating arrangement since we only needed one high chair for a friend's little one instead of two. The server was good about checking on us too.

Yelp
What a fun and cute ambiance, it felt like my bestie and I walked into a restaurant in Cabo. Our server was friendly and gave us some recommendations of what to eat. I had the mezcal flight and shrimp tacos. Mezcal was a little too strong for my taste but the shrimp tacos were bomb. The black refried beans I ordered on the side were also pretty good but the ones that my friend had ants on it. Disgusting! I ended up ordering my go to Paloma which I totally should have ordered instead of the flight because it was perfect but what can you do! I ended up finishing the flight anyway. Oof! Despite that, I would happily come back, we would just be mindful of ordering the black refried beans next time and be mindful of how strong the mezcal is on my end.

Yelp
So let's just start off with it. It's a great place to really enjoy an evening out and have a couple drinks. When we walked in, it was pretty full, but we were able to sit at the bar and take in all the beautiful art on the walls. There were a couple bartenders, but they didn't notice us right away. I think it wasn't until the manager came up that we got helped. I ordered the Verde martini and it was super delicious. Made to perfection. My partner got the house margarita with Tajín. We also ordered margaritas with our meal. Got the 16 oz, but they looked the same as the 12 oz. Honestly could not tell a difference. We split the burrito with Birria. It was really good. Flavorful and filling. Definitely more Tex-Mex than authentic Mexican. Yes, I requested a few substitutions in the burrito and yes, I expected to be charged for certain things. But charging me for two different salsas and then also charging for the consomé felt like too much. I asked for a spicier salsa. That should not cost six dollars extra. Also, check your receipt. We were overcharged on a couple of things. Not a huge deal but still annoying. Food came out fast. Pretty much right after we ordered. Drinks took a bit longer. Will I go back? Yes. Will I double check everything next time? Definitely.

Yelp
We will start the service that's excellent. The chips and salsa that they serve before your meal is simply delicious it tasted homemade and salsa was exquisite. We made a mistake on ordering the nachos since we felt too full for our fajitas but the whole meal was delicious. The ambiance is awesome, the decor is colorful and festive with music playing as if it was a party going on. The tables all very clean and well put together with very comfortable chairs. Great dining experience.

Yelp
Cantina jacks could have my new fav salad- the cantina salad (romaine, radish, corn, black bean, pepitas, tortialla strips, avocado, cilantro dressing)with the ancho shrimp! Yum! Wash it down with a fish bowl of a skinny marg!
google avatar

Luke L.

Yelp
It's a good Americana style cantina... service was fast and pleasant. All the bartenders were flying back there cranking out drinks. The Birra tacos's, and fish tacos were excellent. The queso dip is one of my favorites. I even asked my significant other should they get 4 or 5 stars and she emphatically said 5!!! Cocktails are excellent!!!

Yelp
Had a great first visit here in late April. We went early on a Sunday night around 5:30 and were able to get a seat within 5-10 minutes. The first time we tried to eat here on a Friday, we were told the wait was 40 minutes, so we left and ate somewhere else. I'm happy to see they've added a reservation system via yelp to help with seating in the future! The restaurant has great ambiance and decor, and feels upscale for a cantina. Service was good. We liked the food as well. We wanted to try the ceviche but they were out at the time that we ordered. We got the chicken taquitos (4/5) instead, which were a generous portion and quite filling. I got the fish tacos (4/5) and enjoyed them - not the best fish tacos I've had, but still satisfying. I also got horchata (4.5/5) , which was refreshing.
google avatar

Rosanne P.

Yelp
Absolutely love the atmosphere- the plants and huge windows give a great vibe. Makes me want to get the same plants at home! Been here a few times so far and it's a great place to go with groups provided you have a reservation. Otherwise it may be a long wait. I usually get the veggie tacos with vegetarian rice and beans. The cocktails are also really good and find myself trying a new one each time I come.

Yelp
Another lovely experience at Cantina Jack's! I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. From the smiles when I walk in, to the friendly and attentive wait staff and bartenders, in addition to the very efficient food runners, I am encouraged to write a five star review. I've been here many times now, sitting at the bar at the high tops and at tables. There is something for everyone here and the food is amazing. Did I mention the best tequila and Mezcal bar anywhere in the county visit Cantina Jack's, you'll be glad you did and you'll be back again.

Yelp
Nice ambiance with the large windows open on summer days. Good food, decent prices. I can't remember anything else

Yelp
This location is fun- from the decore, the staff, the place is always busy when I go by. The restaurant is always jumpin'! It is busy most nights of the week. The setup is a large, open space. That being said, on their busiest nights it is difficult to hear across the table to your other guests. Perhaps this isn't an issue during non-peak nights. There are no interior walls/rooms so sound does carry. Regarding the food- overall, the other guests enjoy their dishes. I ordered three Tacos Al Pastor. While they were very generous with meat filling, the flavor just missed the mark. The diced onions topped were diced large and the taste was a little overbearing. The pieces of cilantro were a nice decorative element; however, freshly diced cilantro is a classic must-have for also pastor tacos. I would certainly return and try more food items perhaps during a happy hour. Looking forward to the next visit.

Yelp
Great location! We were able to sit next to a window with view of a fountain. Love the decor! Colorful, fun and not overdone. I ordered the veggie tacos-love the vegan dish availability. Fresh tasting, not greasy. Served in blue corn tortillas which I really loved. My only wish would be for some spice or heat. Really no spicy salsas here. We had chips and salsa. The salsa was creamy and tasty but would have been better with at least a little jalapeño. Hubby had carne asada tacos and felt the same regarding lack of heat. The waiter was very helpful, we did not ordered cocktails, but they looked great and the fellow patrons were all smiling!

Yelp
My all-time favorite place! THE BEST!" I can't say enough good things about this spot! From the moment you walk in, the service, food, and overall quality are always top-notch. Rachel, our server and host, is absolutely amazing--she's always so attentive, friendly, and welcoming. Her service is always with a genuine smile, which adds that extra touch to the experience in addition to the other staff, Omar the bartender.. And the food! It's always outstanding--delicious every single time served nice and hot! The ingredients are fresh, and the dishes are carefully crafted with great flavor and presentation. Thanks to all the hardworking staff and the 3 gringos! One request!!! Pleaseee bring back the delicious SALSA it's my FAVORITE!!!

Yelp
Went for happy hour to cantina jacks. Was extremely surprised that the place was absolutely deserted upon arrival. A grand total of 5 patrons sitting at the bar and no tables with guests. The happy hour menu is OK. A choice of $5 or $6 per taco, $1 off small plates and an assorted $ off types of drinks. Off menu we ordered micheladas, they were great. The carnitas, pastor and greek taco were phenomenal. Who would have thought that a lamb taco would have been so droolworthy. Get them on the housemade blue corn tortilla, they are a MUST. Oddly for 2 people doing 2 tacos each, they served it on one large plate, instead of giving us each our order. The complementary chips and salsa is good. Chips are fresh and perfectly salted but the regular salsa while good flavor is lackluster. We ordered a side of the habanero salsa and mixed the two together. The bartender had the personality of a wet mop, was glad when the shift switched as the service became better. All in the place is pricey but the food seemed to be worth it. Would like to go back soon to try more of the menu.

Yelp
I stopped by for happy hour (3-6 during the weekdays) and was very pleased! My husband and I both really enjoyed the fish tacos and the carne asada tacos. I also liked how light the free tortilla chips were!

Yelp
Go to breakfast place in the area. Always great food and friendly staff. There's a reason it's always busy!

Yelp
We had drinks and appetizers tonight at cantina jacks and the ceviche, the queso fundido and our cocktails were AMAZING!! Food: Amazing Service: Amazing (Luis gave us the best service) Ambiance: AMAZING

Yelp
Attended a party last night table of 20 and the service was very good, attentive and the food was served timely and was tasty. The ambiance was energetic and fun Recommend
google avatar

Melissa B.

Yelp
Unfortunately, I had a disappointing experience here. We were overcharged by a substantial amount--over $40--and when we went in to address the issue, the manager Luis was not helpful. We were supposed to receive happy hour pricing but did not, and when we brought it to their attention, the response was dismissive. Instead of resolving the issue on the spot, we were told they needed to check the cameras and would follow up with us later--all over a $40 discrepancy. It felt like more effort was spent avoiding responsibility than simply making it right. I was really hoping for a better experience, but sadly, this left a bad impression. I always want to support local businesses, but customer service and integrity matter just as much as the food and atmosphere.

Yelp
To die For! Cantina Jack's was a pleasure for my tummy. I received Cantina Jack's on Father's Day ( I am a father ). I had ordered shrimp fajitas and a chocolate Tres leches cake at the end. The shrimp was good, cooked well and had lots of flavor, especially with the veggies under it. The beans were all right however I'm not gonna base my review off the beans cause I usually just don't like beans overall in general. The rice was perfect. There was the right amount of rice, which had lots of flavor and a great feel to it; not too soft, not too soggy, not too hard, not too dry. Furthermore, I wanna talk about the chocolate Tres leches cake. That was a large slice geez that was a large. Every bite was a bomb full of flavor. Perfect amount of moisture. Yes it was very sweet. However, it was a chocolate chest leches cake. Of course it's gonna be sweet. I need to come back just for that and with their nice bold brewed coffee. The servers are also nice and friendly, which makes the trip over there even worth more while.

Yelp
I have to admit, I was skeptical on how good this place was going to be.. but boy oh boy did the brothers deliver again! The bartenders (we sat in the bar area) were great and the cocktails and food were unique and flavorful. We even asked for a sampler of ALL their homemade salsas. They were each flavorful with great taste. With $5 tacos at happy hour, we'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Anand P.

Yelp
Pretty good Mexican food and a big Menu to select from. The staff gave great customer service and made sure to meet specific requirements for our food. I loved the chicken enchiladas! The nachos and salsa were also a great appetizer! Plenty of parking and they have outdoor seating!
google avatar

Cryz G.

Yelp
Great drinks - great service ... came with 5 other coworkers ... My friend got a passion frozen margarita My sister got the watermelon drink on the rocks And my other two coworkers got a mezcal margarita and a cántaritoooo All the drinks were great. My second time here, and bartenders are always welcoming. Will come back.

Yelp
Avoided the weekend crowds and came here after not really seeing what we wanted at Off the Grid. No wait and some great chips and salsa to start, followed by some fish tacos and Greek tacos (happy hour discount) and a beet and orange salad. Tacos were good, especially the Greek tacos with lamb. The salad was a standout - not a typical Mexican restaurant item.
google avatar

Aida F.

Yelp
Found them! Those red enchiladas that taste like mom was in the kitchen, shredded chicken, thick red sauce & original flavor - screaming goodness. Hubby had the verde chicken enchiladas, again very nicely done, delicious. The salsa with the chips was also on point. Had a slushy margarita & a manhattan, more please. I think I found my new favorite Mexican restaurant. If I had one critique it would be to add a tablespoon more of sauce on the enchiladas, please. Service was on point, greeter was accommodating & our server was on it. Ambiance a tad on the loud side, yet very workable. Can't wait for the mariachis, kidding but if they ever get any I'm there! Well done! Will be back to start working my way through the menu.

Yelp
I have been to Cantina Jacks so many times and I'll keep going back, they are by far the best Mexican meal in the east bay, maybe Bay Area. From service, food, attention to detail and wholesome authentic meals there is nothing better. I will be returning forever. If you have not checked the place out, it will blow your minds.
google avatar

Yelp
ServIce is fast and friendly. I always get the carnitas burrito bowl. The margarita is huge and it will sneak up on you, and therefore, I will be back.

Yelp
This is the Latin brother of Jacks next door. A friend wanted to try it since Original Jacks is our go to spot. We started with the usual chips and salsa. Chips were fresh, hot and salted and the salsa had great flavor. Perfect amount of heat but not over the top. We then had the Watermelon Sueno. Unfortunately this wasn't as tasty as it sounded. The flavors of watermelon were bland and with adding the alcohol just infused it to taste like a juiced unsweetened watermelon left out for a few days. I was disappointed it wasn't as tasty as the ingredients that were listed. I ordered the steak fajitas. The meat was tender and well seasoned. Veggies cooked perfectly. I enjoyed the black refried beans, as it added a different flair than your typical refried pinto beans. My friend had the tostada salad. She loved the combination of flavors and added the chile-lime ranch dressing paired well. I definitely would try this location again as I'd like to try something else on the menu and adult beverage menu. With how well our meals were seasoned, cooked and the presentations of each I don't think you'll go wrong with anything you choose. Regular Jacks is still our favorite but will definitely be back to the Cantina.

Yelp
The good: cute environment, friendly staff, food and drinks delivered quickly! The bad: it was hot in there and apparently no ac. They had some ceiling fans that were not cutting it at all! I didn't really understand them not having ac on especially when it's warm out and you're serving alcohol to people. The food was just ok. Nothing special by any means and definitely not authentic at all. If you want authentic Mexican food you don't have to travel far down Monument Blvd to get it. I think people like this place for the location and environment, minus the heat!
google avatar

Steve L.

Yelp
Long waits - sort of typical for a hotter new restaurant in the area. The staff was super helpful, quick to take our orders and get us our drinks and food. The location is pretty good, with solid parking within a short walk. The food was tasty, I recommend the Taquitos, corn niblets for small bites. I wasn't overly impressed with the chicken salad, but I added the salsa from the chips and some hot sauce and then it was really nice. The churros were a pass. The drinks are pretty good, but nothing was outstanding.
google avatar

Kimberly N.

Yelp
I came here for happy hour, and I was impressed with the drinks! Cantina Jack's is under the same ownership as Jack's next door. The restaurant is nicely decorated, and the staff is phenomenal! I came here during happy hour with friends, and we sat at the bar. The happy hour menu is limited. Tacos are $5, and there are some, and we ordered drinks from the regular menu. We ordered a few dishes to share and some tacos. For a drink, I had the Veracruz Coco Loco. It was delicious--not too sweet or strong--perfect for me! To share, we had the chips and salsa and were offered more once we ate them. We also had the Chicken Taquitos and those are a must try. The dish comes with three taquitos, which were good to share. We also ordered the Ceviche, which was the only dish that wasn't good. It was extremely fishy. I wouldn't order it again. Lastly, I ordered tacos. A fish taco and a chicken taco from the happy hour menu. The fish taco was delicious 5/5! Lots of flavor but the chicken taco was alright. Nothing special and it was a bit dry. Overall this is a great hangout spot. The drinks take the spotlight here. I will be back and try other dishes!

Yelp
Walt from Walt's Adventures reporting from the newest restaurant in Pleasant Hill, California... Cantina Jack's. If this were a television show, this eatery would be deemed a spin-off from the main show of Jack's Restaurant. This establishment has only inside seating but plenty of parking. We arrived in the height of dinner rush to find a full cantina. We were given an acceptable timeframe of 15 minutes but were guided to our table before the time expired. Our drinks were masterfully created and were bold. They were a perfect combination to our salsa chips. Our meals each had a wonderful presentation and were quite delicious. The energy of the restaurant was invigorating. One could tell that this cantina was not one of those sleepy ones from those old movies but filled with excitement. Being a "nitpicker" but our water glasses were eventually filled, hence, 4 of 5. I always have high hopes when I enter unknown establishments and I can truly say that I have been blessed. What attracts me to the various reviews is the energy that I feel when crossing their threshold. If you want a fine place for Mexican Spanish delights, then search no further than Cantina Jacks.

Yelp
Cantina Jacks is under the same ownership as Jack's Restaurant next door! This spot offers cocktails, beer, and delicious food, just like Jacks, but with Mexican flare. The interior gives Latin American vibes which I loved. It was beautiful and super welcoming with its bright and vibrant colors all over. While it was pretty busy, we were still sat right away. We received chips and salsa for the table, and ordered with our server once he arrived. I believe his name is Biz, and he was great! He provided amazing service throughout our entire meal and was on top of it with his other tables as well. Originally we wanted to order their fish (snapper, ceviche, and fish tacos) but all were sold out. I'm assuming they are popular for a reason! I will try the seafood out next time I'm here. When everything arrived and dug in, we were shocked because everything was so incredibly fresh. Their carnitas was the star of the show. It was tender and juicy, and not dry at all! Carnitas, if not made right, can become very stringy and dry, but this place did it right. Their carne asada was also very tender! Drinks were VERY strong (thank you bartender). Dessert was delicious as well. There is plenty of parking throughout the plaza, so no need to worry about that. There is no outside patio, so I'm pretty sure there are no dogs allowed unless they are a service dog.

Yelp
Rolled in on a Weds night and had no issues grabbing a seat at 530p. Carna asada burrito was tasty and a nice sized meal for 1. Tacos were tasty but wish we could have done all al la carte. The wife wanted 1 fish and 1 carnitas but had to order 2 of one type and then an al la carte the other. Many of them sounded tasty. I would have even paid for 1 of each and paid for the higher priced menu pair. Chips were thin and crispy, lightly salted. Salsa had a nice medium spice. One star was deducted because the waiter couldnt tell me what all 3 rotating handles were. For me, thats an important detail - I'm a beer snob! The food was delicious and we wiill be back!

Yelp
1st time at cantina Jack's Restaurant, for me. My friends and my brother went last week without me because I was hit with that cold that was going around! The beef tacos, Carne Asada burrito, fish tacos, shrimp enchilada, and shrimp quesadilla were all delicious, according to everyone in our party.! My dish was the last dish I mentioned, but now I want to go back and try all the others in our party ordered! The Tres Leche chocolate cake was divine! The decor was inviting and relaxing! Our waitress, Karina was the best! She made sure that everything was just right for us! Thank you, Karina for taking good care of us! We are going to ask for her every time we go. Go experience, Cantina Jack's Restaurant...in Pleasant Hill...you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Yelp
Let me start by saying how impressed I was with the customer service!! You're treated more like a guest at someone's home than a regular patron. My friend and I came here on a Thursday night to find it totally packed! The hostesses let us know that it was about an hour wait for two people, but it was open seating at the bar. We decided to take our chances waiting for something to open up at the bar. The seats we were scoping out were swooped in on right from under our noses haha. The manager saw this and was so compassionate to assist us. Once seated we ordered some drinks and the queso. I settled on ordering the birria tacos which came with rice and beans. Sadly, the food wasn't good! I say sadly because the customer service and ambiance was so on point! I really wanted to like it. The owner came over just to check in and we shared our feedback. He was open to constructive criticism and even went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with our visit. Back to the food, the queso tasted like nothing! Literally, no flavor at all. Even the ground meat on top didn't have a flavor! The tortillas that come with it were, however, were tasty and fresh. The birria tacos were ok, nothing to write home about. The meat had flavor, but the taco was filled with that flavorless cheese! The salsa that came out was too sweet and didn't have any heat, which isn't something I look for in a salsa. I would return for cocktails and appetizers (sans queso) since the vibes are lively and drinks tasty, but the jury is still out on if I'd return for dinner. Worth a try! Food Rating Queso -100/10 Birria tacos 4/10 Rice 6/10 Beans 6/10 Customer service 1000/10 !!! Ambiance 9/10

Yelp
Lunch with the teen! We loved the warm chips & tasty salsa and we opted for a second basket. Drinks: lemonade & a iced tea She: the chicken fajitas with rice and refried black beans. Me: the queso fundido and the fish tacos. The food was cooked to perfection and even though the fajitas weren't sizzling, the teen cleaned her plate. The battered and fried cod was crispy to the very last bite and the toppings were the just right. Service was good the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted then put on the waitlist, and then offered a table top that expedited the excellent service. Our server bizz was on point and checked on us regularly. The ambience was funky fresh, from the art on the walls to the lighting throughout. The tunes had my toes tapping and the rest of the patrons seemed to be having a great time. I'll definitely be back because I work around the corner and there's a few things on the menu I want to try. I give this place 4 yumms up and see ya happy hour!

Yelp
Cantina Jacks is a new restaurant that is next door to Jacks Restaurant. Yes, the owners own both Jack's and Cantina Jack's. We came across this place, the other day, when we were headed to Jack's. We came back that evening to try Cantina Jack's. The best item was the Watermelon Feta Salad. Both my wife, and I, thought it was one of the better Watermelon Feta salad. The flavors nicely jelled together and were a nice addition to the more typical Mexican faire. The Chicken Taquitos and Chicken Enchiladas Rojas had nice flavors. TheTaquitos were delicate crispy. The Enchiladas Rojas were nice but were not swimming in red sauce. This made them a tad dry for our taste. Similar to Jack's, the space was nicely decorated and had a nice feel. The space had an open and airy vibe. The staff assured us they made the tortillas on premise. As such we need to go back and try their fajitas. Our server was friendly and attentive.

Yelp
We came here for dinner last night and it was so good. Margaritas are strong and really good. We ordered a tequila flight too which we never do and enjoyed it. The queso fundido and our dinners were really good also, everything has really good flavor. Service was excellent, it's a little loud but that's the atmosphere here. Overall a great experience.
