"La Fuente is a Mexican cantina out of a movie set. Founded in 1921, it’s Guadalajara’s oldest bar, located appropriately in the Centro Historico. There’s no sign on the door, nor a way to peek inside, but listen for the tinkle of piano keys and you’ll find your way into this time warp of a watering hole. Inside, old regulars share bar space or sticky wooden tables with hipster locals there for the cheap hooch (pretty much just tequila and beer) and simple food. An old-fashioned bicycle mounted above the bar is rumored to have belonged to a drunk customer who came in to use the restroom in the early 1950s and left without his wheels. It now serves as Casa La Fuente’s unofficial mascot, featuring prominently on the staff’s aprons."

The 30 Best Restaurants in Guadalajara, Mexico - Eater

"While the polish has worn away since the founding of this traditional Mexican cantina, the pulse of Guadalajara still beats in the pale-yellow walls, well-worn bar, and battered tables covered in bottles of Victoria and shots of Tequila Herradura in tall caballitos. The botanas (snacks) are simple: pickled pigs’ feet, tacos dorados, petite tortas ahogadas, or potato chips with lime and hot sauce. But the mariachis are the best in town, and the room is packed with locals and tourists wandering in from a hike through the historic center. Two-ingredient cocktails — rum and Coke, palomas — are served do-it-yourself style; you get a shot, a glass with ice, and a mixer. In this real Mexican cantina, all that mixology stuff won’t get in the way of the drinking. [$]" - Bill Esparza

Amazing bar and atmosphere, went here on open the first time and was treated with some sample shots followed by full shots of the owners favorite Tequila, Ocho Reposado. Returning here later in the afternoon at sunset it was busy, with live band, and amazing atmosphere, 100% recommend anytime of open for an amazing time.

🎶 Guadalajara, Guadalajaraaa… hueles a pura tierra mojada 🎶 — but this time, you smell like great tequila and mouth-watering tortas ahogadas (don’t say we didn’t warn you about the salsa🔥)! Behind the iconic ‘GUADALAJARA, GUADALAJARA’ sign in Plaza Liberación, there’s a little gem waiting to welcome you: Cantina La Fuente. 🌵🍽️🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽 We indulged in tacos dorados and some of the best tequila in town. With live sax and piano setting the perfect mood every day and mariachi on Fridays, it’s a vibe made for over-30’s looking to chill, chat, and soak up that old-school cantina charm. 🥂🎷🎹 Plus, the staff? Young, friendly, and ready to make sure you’re having a great time. Five stars, easily! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 If you’re in the centre of the city, don’t miss this spot! Whether you’re a local or a tourist, it’s the kind of place that makes you sing ‘Guadalajaraaa…’ a little louder with every drink. 🥳💃 👊🏼⭐️💙 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽

Google
This place is a must visit, people from all over this world come to visit this old bar. We have met some kind and humble people from across the world here. The live music and ambience here is definitely a spot that will make you drink!! Be prepared to do so, you either will purchase drinks, be bought drinks, or will be offered someone’s drinks. Between the live music that plays and the mariachi that arrives around 11pm this place will have you being Mexican in no time. Highly recommended.

Google
A great traditional and historic Guadalajara Cantina. Nice pours on tequila shots. 4 stars on the atmosphere only because of the bright white florescent & Led lights. Cantina’s need dimmer lighting, which tends to make people relax more, stay longer and drink and eat more.😁

Google
The atmosphere is cool and the girl bringing our drinks was friendly but definitely was overwhelmed because it was busy and she had a lot of tables. Obviously not her fault, she really tried. Wasn't a great experience but I would try it again.

Google
Great local place!! Heard the music as I was walking by the other day and thought this would be a great place to go to. By chance, a friend recommended to meet there the very next day...coincidence?? The food menu is limited but it's not a dinner restaurant, it's a bar first and foremost. A bar with a great vibe and local folks who love to sing along with the performers. Highly suggest meeting up with some friends here....grab a table...a drink...order a snack and enjoy the lively atmosphere

Google
I loved this old school, authentic Cantina bar! They usually have live music, when we were there they had a Mariachi band playing. The prices are fair and the waiters are friendly and efficient.

Yelp
I give this place 5 stars let alone the over 100 year old bar!! The place is beautiful and full of history, people play music and the acoustics are perfect there with the echos. Its a fun place definitely coming back here for the actual food this time lol

Yelp
This is the best bar I have seen in Mexico. Lively atmosphere. Old timey charm. Great list of tequilas. They had live music playing while I was here, and the whole bar burst into a singalong while I sipped a Siete Leguas neat.

Yelp
If you like bars, this is definitely a bar. It's older, been around for a while. Good atmosphere there's a band playing music and people are just singing along having a great time. Cheap beers and drink prices. No food served.

Yelp
This place is known as a place everyone must visit when in town, including locals. The place is a hole in the wall from the outside, and is narrow and long. But once you walk in you have stepped into a time capsule. This place is rustic and full of 60s maybe even 50s vibes. The bar stools are old, and dingy, but it adds to the vibe and honestly reminded me of Cuba which I love! They have live music to enjoy with your drinks. And snacks are available although nothing more than just bar food. If you want to enjoy a quick drink while im the centro or simply enjoy the music over drinks, this is your place. Definitely check it out!

Yelp
This is my favourite spot in Guadalajara. A cantina over 100 years old with some amazing history. Cheap beers. Delicious Torta Ahogada that comes with four tacos. Live piano music often accompanied by a saxophone, a standing bass, and/or a vocalist. Really cool vibe. The staff is outstanding and some of the coolest people you'll meet. It doesn't get better!

Yelp
I was told that this was the oldest bar in Guadalajara when we walked in. Is it true? I don't know. It sure looked old, but then again, so does everything else in Guadalajara. This place isn't hard to find, yet kind of hard to find. It's very much near the city center but a big wooden facade allows you to cruise on by if you don't know what you're looking for. Hell, I don't know if they really want to be found by the gringos as they seem pretty happy (and busy) with the locals. We only sat for drinks, which were exactly what you'd expect for a very affordable price. While sipping our drinks we were graced by an impromptu performance by a local woman with some serious vocal skills. She just jumped up in front of the casual crowd and belted it out - a truly awesome and memorable experience!

Yelp
Can't say enough good things about this Cantina - one of the coolest nightlife experiences I've had. I came here with a group of friends on a Friday night. The place was packed and there were no seats available. We ordered a round of beers and listened to a man playing the piano in the middle of the cantina. Many people were singing along to well known Mexican songs. We later went to order a mixed drink and the bartender was soo generous with his tequila pours (literally the tequila was overflowing from the shot glass. Around 11pm we heard the blast of a trumpet towards the front of the cantina and everyone started shouting and hollering. The mariachi band had arrived, and the place was completely lit. The band went around and played songs as people requested. The atmosphere was so lively and communal. Everyone was very friendly. La Fuente has a reputation as one of the oldest cantinas in Guadalajara, and a regular crowd every weekend. It's simple, but a really fun place to hang out and grab a cerveza or a tequila drink.

Yelp
This is a run down grimy bar and I loved it. It seems like a lot of locals come here as well as tourist. The bar is pretty big it self along with table side seating as well. You can just look around and tell that there is history in this place. They serve a few beers and they're stacked with Heradurra tequila. The shots are crazy big and crazy cheap compared to the US. Bartenders were all friendly as well as the locals.

Yelp
I felt like this was a cultural experience. This is the one of the oldest, if not the oldest bars in the city. Located right downtown. They have beers, soda, and plenty of tequila. Prices are like 50 pesos a shot and is cash only. You may need to work on your Spanish since this is an old school place. I tried ordering Estrella beers but the guy had no idea what I was saying since I wasn't rolling the R haha. You will probably also hear groups of guys singing songs at some point in the night.

Yelp
This is a great place to come with friends or even by yourself because I guarantee, you will make friends here. Good and friendly environment.. Great service..

Yelp
A wonderful, historic bar in the heart of Guadalajara. Its simple, not glamourous...but is exactly the type of place you want to go when you want a drink with friends, and an interesting place to talk about. A piano man plays the local tunes, a bartender brings your beer and tequila and memories are made here. Enjoy!

Yelp
We found this hidden cantina near the city center and was so glad we stopped in! It's easy to miss this bar when you walk by because it doesnt have doors. All you see is a big store door frame and a wall divider. Once you walk and peek around the divider, you will see this huge bar inside! It was mid afternoon and we were able to find seats at the bar whereas all the tables were packed with many locals. The bartenders don't speak much english but we were able to get by with our minimal spanish. We drank lots of tequila....lots of tequila! And rather than just ordering whats familiar to us, we asked the bartender for his recommendations and we were not disappointed! All the locals here were so nice and tried chatting up with us even though there was a language barrier, but I guess tequila is a universal language! LOL The drinks here are SUPER cheap too! Everyone here were pretty much drinking either a tequila cocktail or beer. They do offer other liquors but no one was drinking them. I love finding hidden gems like these and hang out with the locals!

Yelp
This is a no nonsense type of place and I loved it! The decor is minimal. It involves a Cool art collection, two nostalgic pianos played at night and a dusty bicycle left behind by a Patron who couldn't pay his tab. The tequila and beer selection include all the classics. Don't ask for a margarita here though! I'll come back each time I'm in town for sure!!!

Gina P.

Yelp
Great live music on a Wednesday night. Perfect place to enjoy a drink and relax. Great art decorates the walls, wish it was for sale!

Yelp
"Holy Ground".....for any aficionado of cantinas or Tequila, this is a must see before you die. A must every time I'm in Guadalajara.

Diana M.

Yelp
This is a great, simple bar with a fun, almost homey atmosphere. It's casual but their nightly musicians really give it an extra flare. Drinks are cheap and it's almost like a dive bar so don't expect any fancy cocktails. Some may think it is almost a "tourist trap" considering that it's half packed with Americans and other foreigners but the locals still head here which helps keep it genuine.

Mip B.

Yelp
Outstanding local haunt. Great atmosphere and cheap beer and tequila. A few bar snacks like peanuts and chips help round out the experience!

Yelp
This is my favorite cantina in Mexico (and I live in DF not GDL). I base that on numerous factors. 1) the beer and tequila is cheap 2) people from all walks of life go there to drink 3) it's in a no-frills old colonial building. A 100 year old bicycle sits above the bar collecting dust in one of the archways...I was told it's from a client who couldn't pay his bill. There's music Friday nights...and normally the whole bar starts singing along with the pianist. Like many cantinas it closes around 11pm, so show up at 8 or 9 with plans to go elsewhere if it's going to be a late night out.

Ricardo C.

Yelp
A must every time I visit Guadalajara! Classic Mexican Cantina. A favorite watering hole for locals, international students and university professors. Friday nights are pretty electric. Do yourself a favor and try the pigs feet with hot sauce! Trust me.
