Canton House Review - Buford Highway - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Canton House on Buford Highway provides the full dim sum experience with unique offerings like dessert carts with mango pudding and the only bubble tea cart we know of in the city. The salt and pepper squid is our favorite item here, but it’s not always on rotation. Just make sure you catch a cart that has our other favorites like sponge cakes, pan-fried shrimp, chive buns, and steamed rice rolls filled with shrimp or beef. We always like to get the pan-fried noodles with beef from their regular menu since it’s the tasty, filling finale we need to keep us from cleaning them out of chive buns. And we've made it our personal goal to come as part of a wedding gathering, so we can dine in their beautiful chandelier-lit private space. photo credit: Tabia S. Google
Food is reheated. It tasted horrible. $19 for a combo meal and two egg rolls. They drenched the rice in the chicken sauce even though they are separated in the container. Do not spend your money here. You are better off going to McDonalds.

Google
Shrimp low mein - flavorless, sauceless. Bourbon chicken - dry and flavorless. Friend rice - flavorless Craw Rangoon - stale Honey Garlic chicken wings - ALMOST BURNT BUT AT LEAST they were full of sauce - and tasty. Worse $75 spent on Chinese food. - NEVER AGAIN. DELIVERY WAS QUICK

Dee Dee

Google
The chicken and broccoli had no flavor. It was very bland. The general chicken had a tomato sauce flavor and was bland as well. The egg roll was more wrapper and very little of anything inside. We just threw it all away. We usually use a different restaurant but they were closed. We won’t purchase at Canton House again. Response to question: It was no sauce and no flavor. I added a picture.

Yelp
I've been buying here for years owners are great and food is best from all the Chinese restaurants in town wont change them anytime hope who ever reads has just as good of an experience as I have

Yelp
If I could rate a 0 I would gladly do. Ordered from this sorry establishment chx wings a count of six. Which I received 2 whole ones & the rest were broken, a total of maybe 4 whole ones? For whatever reason. I also ordered a large special fried rice w/ no pork. Apparently they're too incompetent to know that ham is also pork. When I called to complain an angry Asian lady got on the phone & started screaming that it was my fault for not telling them that I didn't want ham too. I'm sorry but what does no pork mean? Take your money somewhere else. Thrash Trash TRASHHH. & to top it off it's like they boiled the shrimp just soggy. Terrible customer service. Terrible food. A waste of time & money. I will be disputing w/ my bank as the food went straight to the trash.

Yelp
Honestly bad food. The rice is cheap and the chicken wing aren't breaded with no flavor

Justin P.

Yelp
Good local Chinese place. Food has flavor and portions are adequate. The service gives it that authentic Chinese take out experience.

Yelp
First time eating here and I ordered delivery with grubhub. I ordered the Crab Rangoon, Beef Sticks, Chicken Fried Rice, and the General Tso's Chicken Dinner Combination with Fried Rice an Egg Roll and Wonton Soup. I didn't get my wonton soup. Otherwise I would have given them 5 stars. Everything was awesome. The Beef sticks where juicy and tender with a hint of char on the edges. Best Crab Rangoon I've had in south Florida. the General Tso's Chicken was crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside, good mild sauce and not too much, 4 or 5 broccoli pieces, (sorry vegetable lovers) good amount of fried rice, and the egg roll was crunchy. Everything was hot. My bill total with delivery was $38.27 The delivery was super fast. Less than one hour. I had to redo my review. I ordered from here two times. This second time I ordered almost the same order. They or grubhub forget my soup again and the food was awful. Almost like it was a different cook. The food was luke warm, over cooked, over fried, and barely had any sauce for the General Tso's chicken. Also when the grubhub driver got to my house in one in half hours, left my food on my porch without knocking, when I stopped him from leaving my driveway to tip him and ask if they remembered my soup this time, he barley spoke english, said "yes soup in bag" and accepted my $10 cash tip. I called the restaurant to complain about them forgetting my soup for the second time. The lady on the phone complained to me about grubhub drivers not placing the orders right. Asked me to complain to grubhub about their drivers not placing orders properly and that the drivers can barely speaking english. I will not be ordering from grubhub or this restaurant again.

Yelp
I ordered from here for the first time - 2 dinner specials and 1 app $ 45.00. I wouldn't mind the cost if the food was good but the only thing we were able to eat was fortune cookies. The chicken was so over cooked and dry I couldn't even feed it to my dogs. Fried rice had no flavor, egg rolls awful aftertaste etc. The only thing I can compliment is the Chinese tea bags - such a nice touch.

Yelp
I love this place! These egg rolls are so good, and I love the General Tso's chicken and the honey chicken combos. They're fast and everything tastes fresh. I recommend you try it out. The employees are always nice, too.

Yelp
This is the best Chinese food in Lehigh by far. My favorite is the Kung Pao Chicken combination plate. Food is always very hot and delicious, even the delivery orders arrive hot and fresh well under the estimated delivery times. I have been going here since 2010, and have never had a bad experience. I am very surprised by some of the other reviews on here, this place deserves many more stars.

Lora W.

Yelp
Ordered again from Canton House and as Always it was delicious and is always hot when it arrives. Portions are big enough to have for lunch tomorrow. If I could I'd add more stars. It will always be my go to Chinese restaurant. Great job to everyone there and thank you. :)

Yelp
Ordered 2 quarts of food today for pickup. Upon arrival I noticed one qt had a bag of noodles while the other did not. So I asked for another bag and was taken aback when she said $1.00! The money is not the point. Is one qt. better than the other and gets a noodle while the other does not or are they just trying to make more money? I think the latter. Spend $20 and a $.05 bag of noodles that should have been included they can't afford? These are very cheap people! Also asked for my broccoli to be well done and soft due to dental issues. Broccoli was crisp and not soft at all therefore inedible for me. When I called to tell them they tried to blame it on me for not being more specific as to the exact softness...WTF? What they should have done was offer a replacement and we would not be here. Instead they lost a new customer. Anyway there is some good from this experience as I found a much better Chinese restaurant called Yummy's. They are right up the street at 4316 Lee Blvd. (239) 491.2203

Yelp
I was very disappointed with the food we received on Saturday. The shrimp egg fo young had gravy that was like water with no flavor and the Sesame chicken was very dry like it had been made ahead of time and just been sitting. Not at all pleased with the food we received. I have always praised the Canton House unfortunately not anymore. Trip to Ft. Myers may be worth the trip.

Yelp
The food is disgusting, really!! Dont do it. The "boneless Ribs" are slabs of dried out pork, the dog didnt even want it. the rice had a huge slimy piece of egg that they probably scraped off the bottom of the pan. The rice tasted like it had been sitting there for at least a few days. 2 dinner combos went in the garbage!!! 20.00 down the drain. I should have known when I walked in the door and there was not a soul in there.

Yelp
They are so rude i called on the phone and she was basically rushing me off of the phone i wasnt even done with my order and she hung up on me, so i called back to cancel the whole order and she said absolutely nothing and hung up.

Yelp
Wow. My words can't express how this place ripped us off. If you come here, and complain, they don't care. The food was everywhere but in the container, their portions are a giant guessing game. I mean, two people, they gave us so little rice! When we decided to ask for a refund, that's when it all fell to pieces. Their excuse was that if there was nothing wrong with the food, they wouldn't give a refund. When told that we were not 100% satisfied with the meal, they still objected! We made the mistake of paying in cash. Don't be like us, don't even step in foot their door because in the end, they don't care about the customer. It wasn't about the food, the food is decent but the personage behind what used to be a decent restaurant just reared its ugly face and showed that its future in the food buisness isn't bright

Yelp
Absolutely disgusting. The restaurant is dirty and the food isn't good at all. The woman that waited on us seemed nice, but overall, not an experience I'll repeat.
google avatar

Hanzel A.

Yelp
The food is decent sometimes good sometimes you can eat at the place is always empty and they are ripping people off on the price because they don't have that much business and they have to take a bandage of the little business that they got just one there by three house rice three spare ribs $50 for that price I can go to Kumos and get a better meal last time going there and before me other customer was complaining about the price to

Yelp
I placed an online order and within my order there were three dinner meals with egg rolls for our side items. Plus, I ordered six additional egg rolls, for a total of nine. I received TWO!!! When I called the store the female owner/manager told me to recheck my order because I did not order any egg rolls. I left my home and brought in my order to show her that I ordered and paid for extra egg rolls and she told me that I ordered extra egg for the fried rice. When I read the order to her LINE by LINE and showed her AGAIN that I ordered egg rolls, she still told me I was wrong. Lets just point out that the owner said, you ordered three meals with egg rolls for your side and one of the meals says extra egg rolls. THATS RIGHT, AN I STILL ONLY HAVE TWO!!!!!!! She said, next time you call and not do it online. WHAT NEXT TIME????? I ordered pork fried rice with my meals, too. An I got brown rice with NO PORK and only egg. I have been a very loyal customer for over 20 years and this is how they treat my business. I will never go back to Canton House.

Yelp
Normally I'm not one to leave a bad review but this time I HAD too - The guy that answered the phone to take our order was EXTREMELY rude!!! Had absolutely no customer service skills at all - made us feel like we were bothering him placing our delivery order. We heard good reviews from a friend about this restaurant and how good their food was so we decided to continue with the order anyways - took over an hour to get here, OVER PRICED for a very small amount, and the food was NOT that great. Won't be returning!!!!

Yelp
The only Chinese delivery service we get. Love the chicken cashews and fried rice. Timing is great too. They occasionally give us free stuff as a show of appreciation.

Yelp
This has quickly become one of my favorite Chinese joints in Lehigh. The food is of good quality and the service is great. I dont even have to order. They know what i want already. I reccomend this place if your in the mood for good food at great prices. If i had to gripe I would say that the fried rice is not that good. BUt the white rice is great.
google avatar

Yelp
It's pretty below average for even the average cookie cutter Chinese joints. I only order from them as they are one of the few that deliver. I 1st looked at their eggrolls and said wtf? they are literally 3-31/2" long....then I said, hopefully...."Maybe they make them and they're not frozen" No, I was wrong. Jan-bo has much better food, I wish they still delivered.

Adrian G.

Yelp
Food is awesome good portions I get the small order of vegetable lo mien and vegetable fried rice and spring rolls. Very expensive $$$$ a meal for for one person will range from $15-$20

Yelp
Let me preface this by saying I have eaten here before and found it to be pretty good. This time though, it was eh. I might not have liked it because the last 6 months or so I have been eating "healthier" food and have avoided deep fried crap. Well, last night I decided to get some takeout because I did not feel like going out or cooking. I placed my order via phone and was there with the food ready in about 20 minutes. I ordered the lemon chicken combination (not really knowing what to expect). The place is similar to most takeout Chinese restaurants found in strip malls but a little nicer. There is more dinning area with better decor but nothing to go on and on about. It is nice to not see that annoying large menu of generic pictures above an order counter though. The people working there are very nice and personable, unlike some similar places where you feel like you just stepped into the "Soup Nazi's" place (Seinfeld). My meal included an egg roll, soup, chicken, sauce, fried rice, cookies, fortune cookies, and a bag of tea. I also got some "house" mustard; I usually love this stuff at any Chinese place. One thing that I disliked right off the bat was the Styrofoam containers, not only are they just icky creations, the food was placed into them hot so the Styrofoam melted a bit (Yum, toxins). First, the fried rice seemed as though it would have been really good...... four hours prior. The chicken was a thin breast, breaded, fried, and placed in the container with a nice pool of grease. The lemon sauce that accompanied the chicken seemed to be a cheap honey based sauce with a lot of lemon zest and a few slices of lemon added. The Egg roll was your run of the mill frozen edible object that was fried and thrown in a bag. The egg drop soup was pretty good but a little yolky for my taste. Lastly, my biggest disappointment, the mustard was not very good. For some this may not be a big deal, but for me it is a very important part of the meal. The mustard was runny, too tart, and not spicy enough. I never made it to the cookies or the tea and I threw out more than half of my meal. I have had good experiences with the food in the past but that was when dining in. Maybe the secret is to dine in and not get takeout. To be honest, I will probably eat there again in the distant future but it will take a while for the memory of this meal to vacate my brain. The only reason I am giving 2 stars and not 1 is because of past experiences that I would rate 2 or maybe 3 stars.

Yelp
Been eating at Canton House for years! Great family owned Chinese restaurant. Always a favorite! The curry pork (ordered extra hot) is awesome! And by far the BEST pork egg foo young EVER! Delicious!!

Yelp
Great food good prices they delivered 6 miles for $2.00 no complaints. Have eaten there before a few times always enjoyed. now that I know they deliver so cheaply I will be using them regularly
