Google
Tried a new spot today- as our usual Chinese place was closed for vacation. Found Canton by googling “Chinese food near me” and decided to give them a try. Called in my order. Employee was very friendly and had suggestions regarding their tofu dishes. We ordered General chicken, salt and pepper tofu, chow mein, fried rice and egg rolls. Employee was welcoming and service was prompt. Everything was bomb. Flavorful, fresh and huge portions. We decided we are breaking up with our old spot and Canton will be our new go-to for Chinese cuisine. Thanks Canton, we will be back 😋

Google
I had the pleasure of trying their ginger beef and wonton soup the wonton soup was therapeutic and nostalgic it was made exactly how one would remember as for the ginger beef it added a great level of spice without the need to make it spicy it was intense yet subtle at the same time I look forward to trying the rest of his venue

If you’re looking for an authentic, no-frills Chinese food experience, this place is a hidden gem! The food is incredibly flavorful, and you can tell they really know their craft. The menu has so many great options, but the Brandy Fried Chicken and Ragoons is a must-try. The portions are generous, and everything is cooked to perfection. Don’t let the humble exterior fool you—this place packs a punch when it comes to taste. Highly recommend for anyone craving some amazing Chinese food! And to add to the amazing food, the owner is so incredibly sweet.

This is the only thing I miss about Sacramento (I love this place) I went last month for the first time in a year, and the food was like a warm memory coming back. I only wish the inside was open for dine-in. I miss seeing all the beautiful origami paper cranes hanging from the ceiling. I haven't been able to find a place that comes even close to their sweet and sour pork where i live now. 😢.

Didn't disappoint me for my cravings, hit the spot.

I've been going here since I was a kid, now I'm 55 years old. I love this place. I've Seen It Go from grandfather, father to son. Come on Sac show a little bit of love to a very good Chinese place. Something about the chow mein no other place can compare. I hope to see this place open another 50 years. Good luck Canton and may good fortune smile upon you.

Google
This is the best place for Chinese food!! All my family comes here 20+ people or more for many many years. I use to come here when I was a kid with my grandma and now I’ve been bringing my daughter for the past 18yrs ! Great service it’s a small family owned business ran by brothers with the best hospitality!! I referred them to anyone who ask for good Chinese food in the area. Oh and you can’t beat the prices and big portions. I always get the house special chow mien and my daughter loves loves there ginger beef!!! It’s the best I’ve ever had. Honestly.

Yelp
Fantastic Traditional Chinese Food! SITREP I am so loving Asian & Pacific Islander Month because it's given me more focus on Asian cuisine and checking out more Asian restaurants. On this occasion my friend Annie and I checked out the much touted traditional Chinese spot: Canton Restaurant ("Canton"). THE SETUP Located on 47th Avenue, Canton is the absolutely delicious "Hole-In-The-Wall" (by definition!) and it touts a fantastic menu. Very reasonably priced, it reminds me of an old school "Drive-In" version of a restaurant: people pull into the large gravel parking lot, and they either have their to-go order already waiting for them, or they actually order in the lot. And in a very reasonable time, the to-go order is brought out, they pay for it, and the restaurant is kind enough to put the meal-to-go in a stable cardboard box to take home. LE MENU We did an array of yummies: * Coconut Shrimp * Shrimp *& Vegetable Chow Mein * Sauteed Greens * Peppered Chicken Wings * Sodas and Tea Each dish was delicious and SO FILLING! THE LOWDOWN You have to come check out the best Chinese Food in South Sacramento!

Yelp
Great food and service. Best Chinese food in the area. Orange chicken and general chicken is lit! Everything is fire actually! Place don't miss with the Chinese food cravings.

Yelp
Hella legit Chinese food, family-owned very friendly service. Got the housemade chili oil sauce. I love spicy foods. Get the beef chow fun, fried rice, chowmein, can't go wrong with any of their dishes. Food comes out fast and hot. I would've never stumbled upon this place if not for the locals. Now that there's indoor dining, can't wait to come back and gather with friends. Chinese New Year is around the corner, time to celebrate big for Year of the Dragon! 'Til we meet again ~ Gan Bei and see you on Yelp (SYOY)!

Yelp
Yummy! I completely understand why two dudes pulled up here just to order two eggrolls and then peace out the last time I was here waiting outside for my order. The eggrolls are just that delicious, and the biggest I have ever seen in my life. Don't let that fall on your foot, as my Grandpa would have said. They're also vegetarian! Woot woot! The menu has a dedicated vegetarian section, and several things can be made vegan upon request. I ordered orange tofu and eggrolls, and both were fantastic. You also get a ton of food so you'll have three meals at least in one, and for that price? Are they serious? I would absolutely order the orange tofu and eggrolls again, but I also want to try the different kinds of tofu dishes that they have available in the not too distant future. The guy who took our order was very kind and was the one who told me about the vegan mods if I wanted them. They do not have dine in yet in these trying times, so you'll have to either call ahead to order, or pull up, order outside, then wait for your food. There is a little shade so it isn't terrible on a hot day, and the wait is hardly anything at all. I think we waited 15 minutes once we had ordered. The parking lot looks mostly deserted but it is open during the posted hours on Yelp that I did check and see were up to date. There is plenty of room to park in the lot. Bathroom Report: Unavailable Vegan Corner: Not marked on menu, but many items can be made vegan upon request. Vegetarian section is clearly marked.

Yelp
Been going here for 30 years. My kids have grown up on the food and love it. It's our go to comfort food spot
google avatar

Yelp
I've been here multiple times. Ive had the tofu, orange chicken, chow mien, fried rice. Different days. The food was just all okay. Great Deal overall not expensive. Great portions, but the food itself just isn't something out of the ordinary. At least for what I've had on 3 separate occasions. Good service. You have to wait outside which i have no idea why but it's okay. The area isn't too bad but I've had some ghetto experiences outside but they are pretty quick.
google avatar

Yelp
Okay, a friend suggested this place and was shocked I had never been here. There is no dine in but the service is top notch!!! We ordered by phone and when we pulled up we're greeted promptly by a very friendly man who made you feel like u were a regular off bat. I ordered the broccoli beef with extra gravy , Mongolian beef, house chow mein and orange chicken. Now the brocolli beef was amazing. The brocolli was cooked to perfection and the gravy was very tasty. Would definitely recommend ordering this. I also was pleased with the Mongolian beef, Tasty sauce and smothered with onions and peppers. Orange chicken this day was a little over cooked but will give it another shot next time. Chowmein was good but a tad more flavor WOULDNT hurt it. All and all a must try. I'm excited to try more items on this menu and believe me there is an array to choose from. Sorry no pics we all were hungry and I totally forgot. Will post next visit.

Yelp
Pretty solid family owned, Chinese restaurant. Found this place through yelp on a rainy day when we were craving Chinese food. Service has been super friendly the last couple times we came. The first time we came, we were recommended to get the pork wontons, he said they were hella good and they were!! When you come here get EXTRA of their chili oil, THE BEST I've ever had, I want to bring some with me to every Asian restaurant I go to now lol

Angel C.

Yelp
Food is always amazing and wonderful. It's family owned and have been going here since I was a kid. Very welcoming and friendly.

Janelle M.

Yelp
Ive got food here a couple times. The I've ordered chow Mein, fried rice, sweet and sour chicken and Brandy chicken. The rice and chow Mein was a little on the greasy side nothing too overwhelming I ended up doctoring it up at home and it was tasty. The sweet and sour chicken was decent, but the Brandy chicken is no bueno. The brandy chicken was soaked in grease and even used Hell of paper towels to absorb the amount of greasy in the chicken. I took and bite and it was still too greasy for my taste that I ended up tossing it. Yuck! I would still order the other dishes. There are better Chinese food restaurants in Sac this one by far would be at one of the bottom of the list. The location is in a area, I wouldn't be at after dark as the location gives me the creeps. The customer service is always great and the interior is nothing special. This place is a solid 2.75 to 3 star.
google avatar

Carlo S.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place due to several very good reviews of their Brandy Fried Chicken. I was craving this today and decided to try Canton's along with an order of pork fried rice. Suffice to say, I was disappointed. Both the chicken and the fried rice were a bit too salty for my taste. The cook got a bit too happy with the salt shaker. I wanted to really give Canton a higher rating but not this time. I will try again in the near future and see if they've corrected the salt issue. One can always add salt but not remove. For now Canton only warrants a 2 star rating. I had a hard time finishing one piece of 6. The crispiness is very good. Chicken is cooked well.

Yelp
Love this place my dad was coming here for many many years maybe 20+ they have the best war won ton soup
google avatar

Yelp
This is the best! Fried Chicken Broccoli beef with fried tofu Pork chow Wor won ton with noodles. We have been coming here for over 40 years! Great family Takeout. Don't forget your picnic utensils. Have a nice picnic.
google avatar

Alize D.

Yelp
Is you want some tasty, fresh made to order Chinese food this is it! It's also very cheap! The fried chicken and fries is my new favorite ! I'll def be back for more !
google avatar

Nelly M.

Yelp
We paid around $150 for food. Not worth it! Egg rolls are oily, flavorless and soggy. Fried rice is just white rice with veggies and egg, hardly any soy sauce. The chicken in the chow mein is literally over cooked and lacks flavor. I think this place should not considered themselves fine food. Overall, this place is lacking flavor. The rest of the food is also tasteless, this place needs to improve the food quality. Never ordering here again!
google avatar

Jeff G.

Yelp
Been looking for a good Chinese restaurant that doesn't charge alot and is actually good!!! With Covid, it's been hard to even get a call in to some of these restaurant! I think we have found a basically whole in the wall for our future dinners!!! Great tasting dishes and very good portions for a take out order!!! Great food and very filling. Got lunch for tomorrow too!! Very good food Canton restaurant. If your really hungry, try their take out!!!

Jasmine R.

Yelp
2 stars because this has always been a good staple in the south but...I would never spend money here the brandy fried chicken...not good the egg rolls is a big deep fried drenched turned to mush with all the oil it soaked up burrito...of course the whole south is gonna like it I use to as well at one point but I don't know how this place is still open Canton should just close for good it's life span has run it's course now it just makes people sick..

Yelp
Came here on a whim for a Friendsgiving potluck and ordered a tray of spicy cheese wontons. Soooo good! They are super filled too! I will be back to try other things

Yelp
A true neighborhood favorite where everyone knows everyone else and walks freely up to eachothers tables to say hello. Definitely a friendly vibe - the employees knew all the customers that walked in and what they liked to order. It was like watching a Chinese restaurant morph into Cheers. Food was delish. I was craving some noodles so I got the shrimp chow mein. Loads of fresh vegetables and juicy shrimp. Speaking of shrimp- the kitchen brought out some spicy shrimps to our table to try. Yum! Flavors are authentic and not bland. And thankfully, not too salty, which is what I usually run into with Chinese food. Quantities are massive, so be prepared to take at least half of your food home. Hot tea here is the best I've had at any Asian restaurant. Hands down. If you're in this neighborhood this place is a must try.

Craig S.

Yelp
Definitely a hole in the wall off the beaten track, but hands down the best Chinese food in the Sacramento area. Fast, affordable, and delicious, and with some of the friendliest service you'll find anywhere.

J E.

Yelp
Excellent fried chicken. Real chop suey. We've been coming here for decades and it's just as good as I remember. Every time. Cuz they cook damn good. FRESH ingredients. It's only take-out now but I'm greatful to the sons for continuing to serve their delicious food. Best Chinese food outside of San Francisco Chinatown. Find out for yourself

Yelp
Ordered to go prawn hor fun (chow fun). $8.75 plus tax = $9.13. All there are: tiny prawns with a type of green leave vegetable I think bak choy, the chow fun isn't tasty. I suggest going Lollibowl nearby, I've also went there ordered to go with tax $10.72 got item D1 a box of seasoned rice with nice sized beef cubes and mixed vegetables, worth the extra $1.50, definitely look and smell so much yummier!

Yelp
Haven't you guys heard ? It's fried chicken Friday and you MUST celebrate by eating nothing but fried chicken all day . Think you can hang ? I gravitated towards canton restaurant after hearing about how amazing their fried chicken is. I called in, placed an order , and arrived in a sketchy plaza that no one hardly ever goes to anymore . Even though there was an even sketchier man out front dancing to no music and washing his car with no water , I went inside to pick up my order of fried chicken. This place seems to have been here for over 30 years but you would never imagine a Chinese restaurant being located in this plaza ? ( plaza ? Shopping center ? I don't even know what it would be considered tbh. ) the fried chicken was made fresh and piping hot . It came with some crinkle cut fries tucked under and a lemon and tomato slice . They give you a whole chicken cut up and fried so for $8 you get every piece of chicken white and dark meat with some fries which isn't bad at all . I opened the take out box and immediately had high expectations. After my first bite , I just knew I couldn't hang. I didn't want to waste food but I also knew that if I kept eating more , I'd get sick . The batter is extremely thick and soaked up a ton of oil . It'll take a bit to get to the actual meat because the batter is really that thick. All in all, it's 90% batter and 10% chicken . I prefer the fried chicken over at south villa . I honestly don't think the fried chicken here was everything people made it seem to be . Two stars to be fair because my food was fresh , and came out in a reasonable time .

Yelp
I get when I start not feeling well. I get it minus the bbq pork (I just don't like. BBQ pork). The broth has great flavor. Plenary of veggies and you can see the shrimp in there. And you CANT beat the price. $7.50!!!! And it's pretty big! Been going here for years and will continue to do so

Jessica W.

Yelp
Definitely not located in the greatest location but the food is great for the price and the customer service is always above and beyond! Placed an order for a party and the guy on the phone went out of his way to make sure we were on the same page with what I would be receiving and making sure everything would be ready at the time I expected. When arriving to put the deposit, he was efficient and very friendly. Will be back in the future!
google avatar

Yelp
This is my favorite Chinese food hands down Potstickers General chicken Asparagus beef are my favorites Service is amazing
google avatar

Cecilia H.

Yelp
I've been coming here for over 20 years and will continue to come. Always great customer service and the fired rice and egg rolls are fire! Ima fav menu items is their shrimp fried asparagus
google avatar

Jared S.

Yelp
Don't expect the decor to be highlighted in Sactown Magazine; the food and portions, however, could be.. Very fair prices, quick service, and a healthy portions! You can get to-go orders, of course. This place has been open since at least the 80's and you'll taste why they're still around. I'd prefer these folks over Panda Express any day!
google avatar

Annahi S.

Yelp
Best place ever! Best food, best customer service, and you feel so comfortable. My favorite is shrimp and asparagus. Also their wor wont ton is the best in Sacramento.
google avatar

Robbie G.

Yelp
I've seen this location for years, even driven past it on my way to work, but I tried it for the first time at the behest of my family, who all enjoyed it. Right off the bat, the cashier recognized me as a member of my family and was extremely helpful and friendly. It's a hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant (you could drive right past it for years and never know it's there), and it very much has the look and feel you'd expect by that description - it's not run down and filthy, but it's not exactly well-kept either. Of note, there's a lot of boxes in the dining area that just really shouldn't be there. There's also the location; it's located in a strip mall on 47th Avenue, so I wouldn't come here at night. The location, decor and overall atmosphere is why I gave the lower review. The food isn't quite as fantastic as my family had led me to believe, but it's still very good. I had the Szechuan chicken with chicken chow mein, the fried prawns, and the potstickers; the chicken and chow mein were excellent (my only complain is that the Szechuan isn't very spicy, but honestly very few Chinese restaurants make their "spicy" dishes as spicy as I'd like), and the potstickers were good as well. The prawns, however, were garbage; the batter they use is awful, and their sweet & sour sauce is exceptionally mediocre. Overall, I'd say you could do better for the same price range (I'd recommend Temple Garden on Broadway), but if you don't want to drive out of the way it's a solid place to get cheap Chinese takeout.

Sheila D.

Yelp
Excellent Cantonese Chinese Food, Great Customer Service with a Nice Family Friendly Atmosphere.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Best War Wonton soup in town. Awesome pot sticker. Even a great burger and fries if you want.
google avatar

D.J. D.

Yelp
Pretty terrible tbh , service was fine the guy was nice but the food was not that great and the environment was just dirty
google avatar

Johnny S.

Yelp
This place is filthy. There are boxes by everywhere in hallway leading to restrooms. I was given a dirty silverware, there's black scum on floor around cash register, there's a cabinet full of shoes looks like a lost and found . There's dirty fortune cookie papers under the glass on table which is by the way cracked and has scotch tape all over table in a feeble attempt to I dunno cover it or fix it lol... Only reason I didn't walk out is because a family picked the place unknowingly because they flew in from Minnesota. It was gross. I had a blast with the family and waiter was very nice ...
google avatar

Tom H.

Yelp
Ask them for the secret spam fried rice special. Add a piece of their Chinese family secret recipe fried chicken to go with it. Make sure there are no old people and babies around cus fists be flying. You think I'm kidding ? Secret. Spam. Fried. Rice. Fried. Chicken.

Irene N.

Yelp
My family use to go to this restaurant long time ago. And now his sons own it . It was so good.. Thank you Herrera Family
google avatar

Ravi C.

Yelp
Excellent food! I highly recommend coming here, especially with a group of friends or family. Not only is the food amazing but the service there is so warm and inviting! It's my favorite Chinese restaurant!
google avatar

Thanh B.

Yelp
I never knew fried chicken at an Asian restaurant could be so damn good. Canton cooked it just right! Came out piping hot and stayed that way for a long time! I love it! I ordered a couple of other things I can't remember...But one of them was definitely pot stickers. That's like one of my favorite thing on the planet. I order pot stickers at every Chinese restaurant that I go too. Unfortunately, the ones here was a bit of a disappointment. There were too much green onions, it was a bit overpowering. Especially for someone who doesn't eat green onions at all to begin with... But everything else was fantastic! The elderly man that served us is the sweetest waiter everrrrrr. At Asian restaurants (especially ones in South Sac), I would never expect such awesome customer service, therefore, was pleasantly surprised when I asked for a togo box, and he packed up everything for me himself. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I need to pay them a visit again soon!

Yelp
Went in for take out and bought the egg foo young, pork fried rice and pork chow mein. I figured I can try this as a first try at this place. My order is #1 on the combo list. It looks like a small mom and pop restaurant. On weekday afternoon there isnt a lot of people. The floor looks clean but the furniture is outdated. We can see their mess behind the cash register. The boxes and stock is visual. This shouldnt be an issue but it does keep me feeling what they are doing back there with my food. GRIPE - IM A PET FISH OWNER Im a pet fish owner of 6 fishies with two tanks and I cringe seeing their aquarium. Im not saying this to be cruel to the restaurant owners. I am sure they are NOT planning to eat those fishes. For sure those fishes are ornamental fishes, they are not for eating. Because they are ornamental fishes, they are there for enjoyment and viewing. I know they will not eat it or cook them. It looks like they tried dividing the fishes in containers and placed them in the tank of water. Most people who don't know would assume that because this tank is unkept, the fishes would be for EATING for later. It's not. They are ornamental fishes. I know the restaurant will not cook or eat them but the tank should at least be clean and in good condition. I recall at least TWO LARGE RED DEVIL fishes in there. I know it might be difficult to clean that tank with those "MEANIES".....but they should try to clean it. Those fishes probably attacks. I am unsure what they are planning for their aquarium, but also raise a question in my head about cleanliness. SORRY! I can't help it. TAKE OUT My food came to me in a plastic bag with the typical take out square dish, with soy sauce packs, a fortune cookie and napkins. When I got home to finally try my food, I opened the container and saw LARGE PORTIONS (HEAVY) of my fried rice, my chow mein and two giant pattys of the egg foo young. EGG FOO YOUNG Honestly, I have never tried Egg Foo Young at any restaurant before. This is my first time trying it. I usually buy the basic dish when I try a new restaurant just to see why it is their basic dish. If it's a basic dish, it tells you about their restaurant. The Egg Foo Young looks like beef patties on the outside. It was drenched with a gravy looking sauce. I was told by a friend of mine that I couldve ordered it without the sauce if I wanted to. Oh well. I didnt know. But I have to say I enjoyed it. It was a bit too much for me because they were thick giant patties. PORK CHOW MEIN I have to say that when I got home my noodles were already bloated and soft (took me 5 min to get home). It could have been at perfect texture at the restaurant. I am not sure about that because I didnt try it "AT" the restaurant. But as I tasted it, I enjoyed it. It had a mixture of the pork bits, bean sprouts, onions...etc etc. It did have a lot of oil as you get deeper into the dish. I had to stop from there. PORK FRIED RICE I took a few bites because I was getting full. It's so much food. But I have to say the fried rice did taste good as well. It was light and had the mixture of veggies, egg, and pork. It's good. MY TIP I suggest if you plan on buying a "NOODLE" type dish...to eat it at the restaurant. I guess cause it does get bloated as you transport them. OVERALL I have to say that its a great place to try the egg foo young combination dish. I should've stuck with what everyone was talking about on the YELP previews about this restaurant like their fried chicken. Oh well next time. I couldn't finish my dish (THEY GAVE A LOT OF FOOD), so I separated the food in my container and transferred them into my plastic tupperware. I was able to salvage my fried rice for later. The chow mein noodles, it had to go because of the oil at the bottom. My egg foo young...I can eat later today. SUGGEST? I would have to say the food I tried is not that bad at all. I have to try the other dishes that the other yelpers reviewed for this restaurant. I have to say it's okay. Ill give them a try again with the fried chicken everyone is raving about.

Yelp
I've been coming here since I was 8yrs old. I was order lunch #4 and always satisfied! Its not greasy like most Chinese food. Rememer you come here for ths food and not the scene. Its in the "hood".
google avatar

Amanda H.

Yelp
My family has been coming here for years. Their wonton soup is my absolute favorite! The scenery and layout of the restaurant itself isn't as great as they come but the food makes up for it. Would totally recommend!

Selena Z.

Yelp
Don't judge a book by it's cover. One of the best authentic Chinese restaurants in Sacramento! Support your local family owned business, you won't regret it

Yelp
Pretty good service. Pretty good food. The young guy is very personable & is willing to right any mistakes made [by either party].

Yelp
I have been coming to Canton since the early 70's. Amazingly unchanged and the same family owns and runs it. I fondly remember the red vinyl booths, red pagoda lanterns hanging from the ceiling, and the animated Hamm's beer sign with a "running" river in it. Sadly, the last red pagoda lantern is now gone, as is the beer sign. Thankfully, the food is still really good! My go-to item is the #4 lunch special moo goo gai pan with fried rice and fried chicken wings. I also really like their chow mein and wor wonton soup. The food is almost always cooked fresh to order. The fried chicken is delish, but eat in so it's hot, fresh and crispy! There are still many dishes for me to try, if I can ever divert from my faves. If you're passing through the hood and you're hungry for good Chinese food made by a sweet Chinese family at incredibly reasonable prices, do yourself a favor and stop at Canton!

Yelp
Yummy War Won Ton soup and the sauce on the sweet and sour chicken is SOOOOO good!!! The chicken Chow Fun is yummy and the people are nice that own the place!

Yelp
Excellent food always friendly been going here for years moved out of the neighborhood but always go back to grub at this spot
