The Best Cafés in Quebec City - Eater Montreal

"Direct trade with coffee producers is what drives Quebec City’s Cantook, which roasts all its coffees in the heart of Faubourg Saint-Jean Baptiste. With vintage London pub inspired furniture, Cantook is a popular hangout for locals and merchants alike. Seating is somewhat limited inside, but there’s colourful outdoor furniture ,and the best quality-to-price ratio on coffee that you’ll find in Québec City." - Allison Van Rassel

Popped in for an espresso. Wow! Amazing flavor and great service. Had to get right back in line and buy a bag of beans. The barista guided me to a roast and bean that would be better for my daily French press than the (delicious) bean they were pulling for espresso shots. Loving the beans at home and will be back for more!

Super cute and lovely atmosphere. The coffee is really good and they have a good balance of sweetness for the mocha. Also cool to see they roast coffee in house. If I had one thing I would change, that would be more seating inside to enjoy the decorations. Definitely will come back next time I am in Quebec!

Delicious coffee! And I am not even a coffee person. The decaf iced mocha was smooth, perfectly blended, and balanced. Not too sweet or sharp. The cortado was airy and smooth, one of the best I've had in North America (though not as good as in Barcelona). I did not have to add sugar to any drink, which is very rare, because it was so well balanced. Plant milk options. Cute decor, and not too far from the old quarters, in a charming neighborhood right outside the walled portion of the city. The best part of the experience was Rosemary, the barista, who was patient, friendly, and made the drinks perfectly.

Cantook is hands down one of the cutest coffee shops in Quebec City. The vibe is cozy and inviting, with a perfect mix of rustic charm and modern comfort. The coffee? Absolutely delicious — rich, smooth, and clearly crafted with care. The staff are friendly and passionate about what they do, which adds to the welcoming feel. Whether you’re grabbing a quick espresso or sitting down to enjoy a slow morning, Cantook is the perfect spot. A must-visit for coffee lovers and anyone who appreciates good energy and great taste!

This is a very cool cafe. You walk in and it smells so lovely. I got a chai latte that was tasty and loved the spices, but it was way too sweet for me. I should have asked to have it made half sweet. My boyfriend got a flat white and he said it was delicious.

Fabulous. It has been a bit of a chore trying to find a coffee roaster that offers pour-over when I go north of the border. While we do spend most of our time in Tremblant, we also hit Montreal & Quebec from time to time. Of all 3 destinations, this has been the best place I've gotten coffee. I ended up buying some beans to take home. Would I call them amazing? No, but I order from all over the country so we're up against some amazing roasters out there. Would I go back? Absolutely. Would I buy more beans? Absolutely. Would I recommend this to a friend? Absolutely. Atmosphere was nice, and this was the only place we found in Montreal that had AC that could keep up with the hot day. Service was excellent. The guy behind the counter (guy that said he lived in Vancouver for a few years) was super nice. Very friendly and happy to be there. Look forward to going back next time we're up in Montreal.

Ordered: flat white, hazelnut chocolate chip cookie, and iced chai. The flat white was smooth and a little nutty, not at all sour, and server at the right temperature. A 5/5 coffee. As a sweet treat, the cookie was tasty, with large chunks of hazelnut, and paired nicely with the coffee. There was another occasion when I tried the matcha cookie which is probably made with almond flour. The chocolate chip cookie wins decisively against it. Incredibly, despite how tasty and well-made the coffee was, the iced chai stole the show. Richly milky, probably sweetened with some homemade flavored syrup, and spiced the right amount, it's without a doubt the best I have ever tried. Highly recommend.

I accidentally stopped by this gem while walking down Rue Saint-Jean. Great cafe with great vibes. Lots of single origin choices. If you’re in town I would recommend you check this place out.
