"The original Cantoro Italian Market in Livonia is a wonderland of Italian ingredients. The deli counter has a wide variety of imported pecorino Romano and Parmigiano-Reggiano, plus other deli meats, cheeses, canned fish, fresh baked bread, in addition to the always-underrated pickled whole hot cherry peppers. If you like Cento brand products (you should, it’s great), Cantoro has got you covered." - Danny Palumbo

Searching for tasty snack to feed the less fortunate I stopped by Cantaro’s Italian market and boy was I in for the surprise of a lifetime that made my day spectacular. I was taken back by the sheer beauty and wide array of products. A plethora of fresh mouthwatering baked goods throughout the store, various stations with cheeses and delicious charcuterie, Halal options for the Muslim shopper like myself, a friendly and diverse staff, and aisle after aisle of delicious looking goods stacked neatly on each shelf. Mr. Eddie told me that this location is over fifty years old! Also that everything is guaranteed fresh and stocked daily. He was even so kind as to give me a vegetarian lasagna worth nearly $20 completely free of charge. I’m incredibly grateful to my maker, Allah The Most High, Most Glorified God That I was given the great idea to stop by Cantaro’s today. I highly recommend this place to everyone that loves Italian food especially with halal options. I am positive the poor and needy will love these treats! May Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala bless you and reward you! Thanks!

This store is a Jewell my friends first time. We stopped a few days ago we sampled the prosciutto and the service was great it helped my friend out of her comfort zone. By the time we left we were smiling and happily filled with flavorful samples, she is a believer in Italian cuisine now. The daily baked breads are wonderful. I purchased the cannelloni stuffed shells they were delicious. I also love the fresh mozzarella cheese balls and they pre-made ready to eat sandwiches for on the go! I originally stopped for fennel sausage, however I had to wait another day they were in process of making some more. I left with spicy and mild sausage. We had spaghetti with both it was Amazing. I returned for the fennel sausage yesterday I am looking forward to eating. My friend stopped also for a Pizza ready to bake! She picked up bread the first time I couldn't resist it the second time we stopped. Cantoro Italian Groceries has another location I hope to visit soon.

Local gem that always has the special groceries we're looking for and more. Great staff. Everyone at the deli and bakery counters as well as the cashier are helpful and friendly.

Google
A great little Italian market! Always terrific service, great food, and a wonderful selection. We've been to both Cantoro's markets many times and coming to this one feels like shopping at the wonderful New Jersey and New York Italian markets and pork stores that we miss so much. It's a wonderful shopping experience for all your favorite Italian foods.

Coming home from Charlotte and enjoying the best Italian food and service (veal ravioli), and shopping for great stuff to take home to NC; why is Cantoro so good? Thank you.

Google
The perfect neighborhood market. Fair prices, great imported and domestic Italian products, and a friendly, family-run staff! I’ve been going here since I was a little kid with my folks.

Yelp
This is located in the Cantaros market, it's the restaurant that's connected. I've been here three times now in three different weeks. The first time I came here was with a large group, and the service was really good and the food was delicious. I came here. The food was really good. The service was mediocre. Third time I came here. The food was really good and the service was good. I will say the two great times really help. Bring up the score for the mediocre time. I would still recommend this place because I love the atmosphere and the food. You just have to be careful who your waitstaff happens to be. And I would expect a little bit better because when we come here with three people we spend about $400. When we came with four people, we spent $600 so tell you that we're not coming in here to not spend not tip closer to 30% than 20% when the service is good.

Yelp
Really nice market and restaurant. Beautiful selection of fresh pastas, meat and cheeses. So many Italian selections. Beautiful produce, pastries and many premade meals. Market is well stocked and the gelato is incredible. If you have the time. Try the restaurant. Incredible meals. Ravioli was deliciously amazing. Staff is friendly and extremely helpful.

Cookie M.

Yelp
The bread! Read your labels. The sourdough bread is obviously from a commercial baking mix. So many ingredients & def not a true sourdough . I can buy the same bread at the store for half the price.

Holly M.

Yelp
I am always so impressed with the quality and freshness of the ingredients here. The whole place is always incredibly clean and well organized. The staff is attentive and professional. It's so convenient to hrab a really nice bote of food and then quickly grab all the groccieties you need as well. All around always a great experience!

Katie O.

Yelp
Wonderful selection and friendly staff. Always find great food, wine, and special treats.

Yelp
Very nice ambience despite being in a grocery market. Seated early - had reservations. Not too busy for a Saturday night surprisingly. I got the pasta bolognese and I am not exaggerating when I say it was enough for 3 people. I ate some, took the rest home to have for 2 other meals. Only complaint was that waiter was stingy with the grated parm.

Yelp
I absolutely love Cantoro's!! The restaurant itself is super unique and has a charm to it. The service is top notch and the food is super traditional Italian foo. One thing about this restaurant that made me absolutely fall in love was just how fresh every ingredient was that they use. I definitely recommend you order the Burrata Al tartufo Nero as an appetizer. It comes with plump cherry tomatoes that still smell like the garden that are marinated in olive oil and basil, Italian olives, and some of the best burrata I've ever had. It was to die for!! The Italian market has a great selection of just about everything and anything. If your looking for something unique give this place a try you won't be disappointed.

Nicole E.

Yelp
Decent cheese selection here. I was able to find quite a few goat and sheep's milk cheese here. My parents try to avoid cows milk cheeses. I was able to find some potato gnocchi's and some gluten-free for myself. There's a variety of different sauces from puttanesca, Arrabiata, vodka sauce and regular tomato basil sauce. I also found some stuffed olives and some milder salami for my parents as well. They have a meat counter for other varieties of Deli, sausages, arancini and other items behind the counter. They also have a small desert area, behind the counter and a section for fresh bread. The woman behind the counter wasn't able to tell me how to reheat the arancini, so I skipped those today. I was able to find quite a few items to start a decent charcuterie board. This is a for Italian items, my mother would love some of the top picks I bought for her today.

Yelp
Cannoli & Tiramisu Paczkis! Are you kidding me? These are sinful. The cannoli paczki has a dense ricotta rich filling with chocolate chips. The tiramisu -which was our favorite - has a rich flavorful tiramisu custard. Both were just packed with filling! DELICIOUS!!!

Noah S.

Yelp
Wow is this place spectacular! We had a dinner reservation at 7 pm. We were seated quickly and the staff came over immediately! We started with a sausage appetizer which they make in house and the rest of our meal was great as well! The best part of this place is that they have an Italian market and bakery attached to the building. The bakery has the best treats I've ever had! The decor here is top notch as well! 5 stars all day! We will be back!!

Eli J.

Yelp
Cool store for anything and everything Italian. The premade lasagna and spaghetti and meatballs are awesome. Everything is hard to beat.

Yelp
Only have been to the Livonia location. Always a great experience. Food is always fresh and good. Service is smooth and fast

Fred F.

Yelp
A great ethnic Italian market. Everything plus. Whatever you need and want. Lots if different pasta. Wonderful hot Italian sausage.

Suzan C.

Yelp
Very good quality and interesting products. Expensive! Their house made fresh sauces were really good. Eclairs in bakery, excellent. Very good range of cold cuts, including hard to find imports. Did not like their fresh pizza dough, had a weird taste. Huge selection of dried pasta brands and shapes. Check dates, some canned goods close to expiration. Overall, an interesting and enjoyable shopping experience and enjoyed most of what we got. Would definitely shop there again.

Janka D.

Yelp
I'm giving it 3 for food and our waiter (Matt - if I remember his name correctly). His service was great and food was delicious (for the most part). I had to deduct 2 because the hostesses were extremely rude. We had a reservation at 8:45 and there were plenty of tables available. We got first sat at the table next to the bathroom and when asked for a different one we ended up waiting for over 30 minutes even though there were tables available simply because (and quote exactly what our hostess said) "you refused the first table we provided you with so now you have to wait". We were finally sat at the opposite side of the first table & next to the blowing AC. I couldn't see the ambiance from where we were sitting so I am not rating that part. I would recommend the Managment does something about the Hostess situation simply because they are the face and voice of your business and they set the tone for what the rest of the experience will be like for your guests.

James J.

Yelp
Excellent Italian restaurant. Very authentic. The food is good. And service is excellent. Always very busy. Would. right at 4 1/2 stars.

Eric B.

Yelp
What can I say besides this place is a gem if you don't know what compabasso is then shame on you that soaked in Lupini beans your in heaven

Alisha B.

Yelp
I went for the first time this last week. I will buy my Italian goods nowhere else now! All my favorites in one place. Meat was top quality. Great selection. Everyone inside seemed happy and wanting to help with knowledge of their products and recommendations.

Bailey W.

Yelp
Authentic Italian!! Great service & kind waitresses. A perfect spot for a date night, celebration, or time with loved ones.

Doug R.

Yelp
Stopped in to buy a sub and stuffed Olive's for lunch. Very good sandwich and Olive's. Good selection. Clean. I like that the aisles are wide enough. So why one star? Cashier lady (butterfly tattoos), unlike other staffers, was not following the mask guidelines, wearing it to cover only her chin. Sigh.

Jenni R.

Yelp
The BEST lasagna... heat it at home and your house will smell just like Grandma's used to.

Julie R.

Yelp
A nice little gem of a place. Pricey though so be careful. Great cooked up food and choices. Awesome bakery just wish they made larger creme brûlées.

Samantha W.

Yelp
I just love this place! Go for the atmosphere! Go for the fresh veggies and meats and pastas and cheeses! Stop in for gelato! Dine in their amazing restaurant! Oh there's so much to see and try! Their desserts! This time we bought really nice gift baskets as gifts. Very sharp!

Hassan C.

Yelp
They're all so friendly, I love coming here a few times a month to look at all the new items they have in stock, and enjoy the delicious selections of Gelato.

The D.

Yelp
Staff is amazing! From the breads, meats, cheeses, pasta, everything is amazing here. On the DL, the UBake Pizzas are best in class!

Bobby S.

Yelp
Go there every time I'm in the Area great Selection of products and very friendly staff, never been disappointed!!

Emi N.

Yelp
My husband said "leave it to you to find the Italian market in a faraway city!" And I am glad I did. The cannolis were delicious and I was so happy to find that they had my favorite Italian cookies (Gocciole extra dark) that I've been looking for since I got back from Italia. They also had real Nutella which anyone whose been to Italy would understand... (it comes in a glass jar, which changes the flavor of the Nutella).... So happy I found this place and will definitely visit again if I'm back in Detroit!

Adrienne A.

Yelp
Cantoro's is a fine Italian restaurant hidden in a fine Italian grocery store. The grocery store in and of itself is amazing - check out their amazing bakery, fresh pasta, housemade gelato, and balsamic vinegar bar, not to mention all the imported foods you won't find anywhere else. But bring your appetite and be sure to check out the restaurant. It's a little on the pricey side like any fine Italian restaurant - entrees are in the high teens for the most part. First off, they'll serve you their house made ciabatta bread with olive oil and balsamic. It's so good, you'll want to take a loaf home like we did. The bruschetta is excellent and a little different if you're looking for an appetizer. They also have pizzas - Italian style with thin crust, fresh mozzarella, etc. I ordered the penne alla vodka, as I do many times. It's a little spicy and the pasta is always cooked perfectly al dente. Portion sizes are huge for the pastas and could easily be split. Usually I'm so full I have no room for dessert, though they always look and sound yummy.

Sarah M.

Yelp
Amazing food that is made fresh. The fresh pasta is to die for. Had the cheese ravioli and portions are large but this dish was particularly light which filled you up but not leaving you with wanting to take a nap. Flavor profiles spot on. Will return soon to try another item or two from the menu.

Ken S.

Yelp
All staffs, food and environment were so nice except entrance staff. If they change others, I believe the restaurant would be more good.

Anita C.

Yelp
Good food. Enjoy eating lunch and then roaming the market--which is nearly beyond compare for produce, wine selection. This trip the wait person was mediocre at best which, unfortunately, impacts the entire lunch experience. This was a tad disheartening but we'll definitely give it another chance.

Anne F.

Yelp
Wonderful place to have a meal. Each serving is large. You can order a 1/2 portion of the pasta dishes. Great for families, date or a ladies time out. Really nice if you can get a table by the window as they open them up and you feel like you're eating outside. The service is always great.

Robert C.

Yelp
I have been going to Cantoro's since I was in high school. Between that, the 711/Pizza Hut, the church selling 2 dollar lunches and the "back 40" there was nothing to complain about. Their pix a bread was phenomenal (at least until they took out much of the stuffing) leaving it a loaf of hollow bread with cheese, sauce and pepperoni lining the inside. Their deserts are great too. In the back on the left side of the store they have what look like former desserts. They are amazing! I couldn't control myself seeing all of the goodies and I tried many of them which to my surprise were above par. The only reason I gave it 4 starts instead of 5 is that someone I know quite well and have come to care about had an incident there that was not okay. I won't shed the details as I'm not 100% sure but what I do know is that she said if you're a woman looking for a job, this is not the place to be. She said she felt violated and uncomfortable. Overall it is a GREAT place to eat and find some interesting new items. Especially if your getting tired of the same old, same old.

Patty L.

Yelp
Some good finds here. But the store's customer service is horrible. I tried to exchange gluten-free bread that I recently bought that was moldy but didn't have a receipt. The General Manager and employee proceeded to ask me several questions about how it was stored (in my pantry?) and would not even let me exchange it for a loaf. Macarons and other prepared foods are not always fresh and the goods are overpriced (sometimes $3 - $5 markup). I was a loyal customer, but this was the last straw!

Kristin B.

Yelp
Definitely requires a reservation. Food is very good however, not sure that it merits the price. Healthy portions and handmade fresh pasta. Definitely would return for a special occasion but for regular dining would probably pass. Wine prices too (by glass) are somewhat limited and high.

Keith F.

Yelp
I'm a fan! If I still lived in the area I would be a regular. The breads and olives were so fresh and delicious. The artichoke dip as mentioned in several other reviews was worth every penny. I ate it with some of the fresh bread and just kept wanting more. They have a deli full of offerings, and I'm sure each of the food is as good as the next. They were packed and the parking situation was not so hot. If you like Italian goods then be sure to go check it out!

Amanda G.

Yelp
The best place for anything Italian! From fresh pasta to the bakery to their homemade porchetta, you can find everything you need and it's all so delicious!

Dave U.

Yelp
Pricey but worth the $$. You can always go shopping after dinner. Outside seating would make it much better though.

Daniel C.

Yelp
So very happy that this place exists. I love pasta and Italian food in general, and this place feels very authentic. The grocery store has a wonderful selection of foods and goods (although things are a bit pricey). You pay for high quality at this restaurant. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The alcoholic beverages are very unique and delicious. I didn't take a picture but I got the apple style limoncelli and it was delicious. Like a perfect spiced apple. The calamari is perfectly fried and has a wonderful, full flavor. Some of the best calamari I've ever had. The risotto and linguine dishes are also phenomenal. The risotto specifically was cooked perfectly, and all the ingredients balance so well. The shrimp tasted very fresh and burst in your mouth with each bite. The corn and bacon paired well with the sauce as well. Overall, I'm very happy with this restaurant. While it's expensive ($200+ for 4 people), it's well worth it for a celebratory dinner or a nice dinner out in general!

Susan J.

Yelp
Love this place. Large variety of Italian meats, cheeses, breads, bakery and sooo much more Service is great and wonderful people there

Ray S.

Yelp
I used to get pizza bread back in high school now I don't think that they sell it anymore. Oh well I found other things for lunch and dinner. The place is an Italian market. The place can be a little pricey so don't be too shocked. I just have to remember not to go there hungry the next time.

Liz W.

Yelp
Simply awesome bread. Worth the trip for excellent Italian, ciabatta and calabrese rounds. I have yet to get a bread in here I did not adore. Good stock of Italian deli meats and excellent cheeses. I have to love this place for the olive bar alone though. Mmmm. I am also a fan of the sausages of course, hot, fennel or mild. On the shelves you can find good pastas, orzo, coucous, polenta, roasted peppers, quality olive oils and even jam. I like the balsamic and wine vinegars I can find here. Pastries are decent here too. One stop in here and I am magically a great Italian cook. They make it easy. The people are so friendly and the goods are so good. Try it out and wow your family.

Elmer A.

Yelp
We were in town for the Christmas holidays and we heard about how great the bread and deli was at Cantoro's from out hotel concierge. I must say that this place lived up to the hype. We went on Christmas Eve and their italian breads were flying off the shelf. We picked up some dinner rolls and submarine sandwich bread. Both were really moist and tasty. We picked up some of their deli meat including mortadella, prosciutto, and salami. The meats were amazing. Just be sure to get the imported italian meats. You can also pick up some lasagna, meatballs, and squid salad. Their pasta aisle is very extensive. They also have frozen raviolis. I am glad that our hotel concierge steered us toward this amazing market. The parking lot can get tight. Be patient. It is well worth the wait.

Jessica M.

Yelp
Great market with a unique selection. The service cannot be beat!

Julian B.

Yelp
My review will add little to the well earned lore of Cantoro. Superb meats and specialty types, desserts, fresh and varied bread choices, sandwiches. One of the things I can add is to highly recommend the artichoke and spinach dip they make. I've had many artichoke and spinach dips but often skip them because they are not impressive. This is quite impressive and quite divine. Grab a loaf of bread and you are set. One of my favorite meats to get is the Citerrio brand chorizo. The pancetta and capricola are stand out too.

Anna S.

Yelp
I've driven by this place 1,000 times over the last 10 years and I've NEVER gone in until recently. I regret the entire last decade of my life without this place! It's much bigger inside than it looks, and it's FULL of a wide array of Italian meats, cheeses, sauces, olives/peppers and more. There's a small deli, a great little bakery with fresh baked breads and a large frozen section with a TON of homemade ravioli, tortellini, pastas. I'm really impressed. They even have more new-school kinds such as butternut squash or lobster ravioli! They also have wines and a large olive oil & vinegar section, an olive bar and much more that I'm probably forgetting. I bought an Italian baguette, a container of homemade marinara sauce and some of the Cantoro frozen 4 cheese and meat ravioli. All of it was amazing. The ravioli were FANTASTIC and very high quality for being frozen - and the marinara flavorful and fresh. The baguette was also delicious. I've never been impressed with the other local brand, Perino's (?), selection of frozen stuff and the Cantoro frozen items blows them out of the water. A MUST try. I also bought the pre-made Italian sub for lunch and it was not impressive - the bread was soggy and overall just not great. I will absolutely be back to try the variety of other frozen items as well as everything else. What a gem!!

Emma L.

Yelp
This review is only for Cantoro at the Livonia location. I was quite disappointed in this store when I went there on Friday. I expected to get some fresh house made pasta but all past they had were frozen that were packed a few weeks ago (it probably came from the main location in Plymouth). I still got some hoping that it would still be okay (it was actually good after cooking it the same day). Then j tried to get some desserts. I realized this after coming back home but tiramisu that I got was packed on 5/7 and it was 5/13 when I visited them. The expiration date on the package was 5/14. First, they should not be selling a week old tiramisu and it's not so safe to eat a week old tiramisu. I just could not believe they think tiramisu lasts a week. This blew my mind. It tasted good and I didn't get any stomachache or anything but still this should not be happening at a grocery store. Note that I bought this tiramisu at a regular price and it was not discounted because it was going to expire the next day. I didn't buy much stuff that fay because the store was so small and there were other customers wherever I wanted to look but it seemed like most of the pizzas, salamis, cured meat were frozen and not fresh. I suggest you go to the Plymouth location if you want fresh desserts, breads, pastas, etc. and avoid any food poisoning. I gave them two stars because their frozen pasta and cream puff wer still good (although who knows how old the cream puff was?).

Caroline B.

Yelp
Love this place! Selections of cheeses, breads and all things Italian are excellent. To top it off, they gave my kids Kinder eggs at the check out counter. The guy ringing is up was so kind and polite, my husband, who rarely starts things like this said, "That guy was a sweet heart!" I laughed so hard but seriously, he was right! The guy was wonderful, whoever he is. We'll be back!

Ashley H.

Yelp
I had such great dinner experiences here that I hired them to cater my backyard wedding! Martin was absolutely amazing during the entire process. He helped me figure out how much food to order for our crowd size, helped me select the best dishes, set up TWO deliveries to make the event coordination easier, and always responded to my emails promptly! Sam and Lynn, our servers for the event, were incredible! They made everything a breeze with set up, clean up, and even helped with outside food that we added to the menu. I would recommend them for dinner or catering to anyone!
