Canvas

"Food meets art at Chef Riley Sanders' plush establishment. Every dish of the culinary journey is depicted as a painting on the menu, like an art gallery brochure. The talented Texan sources seasonal ingredients from all over Thailand and transforms them with a modern interpretation. Counter seats offer views of the chefs, while tables upstairs offer more privacy. Wine pairings are available to complete the experience." - Michelin Inspector

"An Effortlessly Stylish Addition to Bangkok's Fine-Dining Scene Bangkok’s culinary scene has recently been enlivened by an influx of talented U.S. chefs who are upping creativity levels at venues around the city. One such addition is Texan Riley Sanders, the head man at Canvas. Sanders cut his teeth at restaurants in Austin and Chicago, as well as on aluxury yacht, and his globe-trotting approach to cooking is evident here. Theemphasis is on local ingredients in the six- and nine-course tasting menus, which showcase modern Bangkok cuisine in a freewheeling approach. Recent menu highlights have included shrimp noodles dressed in an intense seafood sauce, and mud crab prepared with lotus root, lotus stem, swamp algae, and rice paddy herbs."

MICHELIN Guide's Best Restaurants and Bars in Thonglor

"With its stately double arched façade, Canvas stands out in elegance amongst its neighbouring humble shophouses. The impeccably plated dishes thought up by chef Riley Sanders quickly earned the restaurant a star, and for good reason. The seasonal six- and nine-course tasting menus here feature local, organic or wild ingredients that have been meticulously sourced from farmers and suppliers all around the country. Think dishes like king mackerel with ant egg, cucumber, soy, and dill, or Thai Wagyu with Thai truffle and Chinese kale. If you can, grab a seat at the chef’s table-style counter to get a close-up of Riley at work." - Veronica Inveen

Canvas, located at 113/9-10 Sukhumvit Soi 55 in Bangkok’s lively Thonglor area, is a remarkable dining experience that fully earns its Michelin star. Chef Riley Sanders and his team transform Thailand’s local, seasonal ingredients into innovative dishes that feel both artistic and approachable. The two-story space is intimate and modern, with counter seats offering a front-row view of the open kitchen—a treat for anyone who enjoys watching culinary precision in action. The tasting menu (around THB 4,500++ for 18 courses) is a highlight, featuring creative takes like toasted rice bread with salted egg yolk or tender mud crab with unexpected flavor pairings. Each dish tells a story of its origins, from farms in Khao Yai to coastal provinces, blending Thai roots with global techniques. Service is friendly and attentive, with the staff happy to explain the inspiration behind every course. The wine pairing option elevates the meal further, though it’s not cheap. Reservations are a must, as the small space fills up fast. Canvas isn’t just a meal—it’s a celebration of Thailand’s bounty, reimagined with flair. Perfect for food enthusiasts looking for something unique in Bangkok!

An amazing dining experience! We had the Oomph course and every dish was like a piece of art, made with ingredients sourced from all over Thailand. We were blown away by how much thought went into each plate, from the way it was cooked and presented to the stories behind the ingredients. Each dish came with a postcard showing a painting of the dish and a write-up about its inspiration, which made the experience even more special. Even the plates were custom-made! The staff explained every dish in detail without being too formal or intrusive. It was the most expensive meal we’ve ever had, but it was more than just food—it was an incredible mix of art, culture, and flavors!

We loved the concept and enjoyed the food experience. Having the food cards with the images created curiosity about what the next dish would look like. I found it interesting! However, I didn’t get or fully appreciate all the dishes but some of them were an explosion of unique flavors. The staff were very attentive and kindly explained every single dish. Prices are in line with other Michelin star restaurants. Overall, we liked our dinner experience and we would recommend it for anyone who is eager to leave their palate confort zone. Downsides: I found wine a bit pricy even for the category and we were a bit underwhelmed by the fact that the chef didn’t stop at our table (it has been the norm in any other Michelin star restaurant we’ve been to)

This restaurant is of of the world!!! Starting with the whole concept, the food, the service, the drinks, and last but not least the chef. We were there end of March with high expectation but Canvas exceeded it way more. We had our son with us which was not a problem at all. Luckily we were seated at the counter so we could see the chef and the crew in action. We had 20 course menu and each course was a highlight. The chef noticed that we were interested in food served so he came to us and took the time to explain anything we wanted to know. One of the best Michelin Stars I have been to, of any the best!

Dining at Canvas is like being part of an art exhibition. Each dish is plated beautifully, telling a story of Thai ingredients through modern techniques. The tasting menu changes seasonally, and every course is a surprise — from edible flowers to coconut-based creations. Service is world-class, and the ambiance is both luxurious and comfortable. One of the most artistic dining experiences in Bangkok.

One of the most unique restaurant; wonderful piece of art compliment with great music and presentation. Some dishes were a bit difficult to understand. For the Main dish beef had amazing texture but was overwhelming by the sauces. Price is a little expensive but I would suggest art lovers to come and enjoy this great piece of art by Chef Riley Sanders.

To be honest, I didn't have high expectations for the food before my visit, given some negative reviews by many here. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the Oomph course, which left my stomach thoroughly satisfied with bold and unique flavors that are not typically found in ordinary cuisine. This restaurant and its thoughtfully curated set course are definitely worth trying, thanks to the chef's creativity, despite the slightly higher price. Overall, it was a worthwhile experience that I would recommend.

If food was a movie, this meal was definitely a thriller. Every dish pushed the boundaries of the senses, playing with savoury, sweet, sour, spicy, soft, chewy, and crunchy. All the dishes were great except two of them were challenging to eat: the crocodile tongue because of what it was and the vegetable stick because of their very intense flavours. Presentation of the dishes was truly a piece of art, and the service was great. All the staff did a good job in describing the dishes except the chef himself that kind of served one plate and said: "just mix it all up and eat it". I would have expected a bit more passion and better description from the chef himself.
