Denver’s Best Spots to Support on Game Day | Eater

"If there’s a Colorado game on the docket, it’ll be playing loudly at this spacious downtown bar. Order the Sour Apple Mule — made with Crown Royal Regal Apple Whiskey, fresh lime juice, and Rocky Mountain Ginger Beer — and come in from 3 to 6 p.m. for $1 fried tacos during the daily happy hour. There’s also a tasty list of pizzas, calzones, burgers, wings, and an over-the-top snickerdoodle cookie skillet topped with vanilla ice cream, caramel, and toffee. In between games, catch a round of Tuesday-night trivia and enjoy two dog-friendly heated patios, all while keeping a safe distance from other parties." - Vox Creative

Globeville Gets a Coffee Shop With a Focus on Supporting Denver’s Immigrant Communities - Eater Denver

"The Cap City Tavern, the popular Golden Triangle sports bar known for its happy hour and Saturday prime rib special, could be on the move—but not until at least 2021. The Denver Post reported Thursday that the Clyfford Still museum, which is located across Bannock Street from the tavern, purchased the land on which the tavern sits in 2018 with plans to ultimately replace Cap City with museum parking and office space. However, Cap City Tavern owner Dino McTaggart told the Post that he had reached a new lease agreement with the museum to keep the tavern open until 2021, and possibly 2024. McTaggart said that when the lease does end, he will aim to move Cap City to another spot in the neighborhood." - Paul Albani-Burgio

Stopped here after visiting the Denver Art Museum. It exceeded my expectations! I got a simple meal- the specials which were a tomato basil grilled cheese and cup of chicken noodle soup and the side Cesar salad. The food came out quick and was super delicious! The service is also super friendly :)

Google
DO NOT DO THE ELF BAR!! This is a scam. They make you pay to get in by buying a ticket online. Only get 90 minutes. When we got there, we had to wait in line and they still asked us to leave at our 90 minute even though we weren’t here the full-time due to their long line ! You walk into a bar that has nothing to do with the elf. It looks like a Christmas bar. The menu has the names from the elf movie and so does the drink menu. They had a bingo and gave you a sucker for winning. Like what are we 5?! Plus, you had to order food and drinks plus tip your waiter. This was a total scam and a waste of money and a letdown. Why did we have to reserve a spot and pay for it? The food was basic bar food nothing amazing. The fries were soggy. I don’t drink so I have the fruit punch which was mostly ice and three marshmallows. Also half of the bar is on a patio, but you don’t notice that unless you’re sitting down and freezing they have it like a makeshift tent where it looks like it it’s inside but it’s really cold since it’s Colorado. Definitely save your money and go somewhere else.

Google
Cap City Tavern had one of the most fun Bingo Brunches I've ever had the pleasure of dining in. The Bingo Host Amy did a "May the 4th be with you" theme, and I never laughed and clapped and screamed so much during a meal. It was a good thing because the service was slow. The ABLT was delicious, but the green tea shot, not so much. I feel that more people should know about this place. Check them out when in Denver!

Google
I came here once before and was greeted with very cold service.. we almost never came back. However, tonight we were hungry and nearby, so we gave it another shot. Byron greeted us with a smile and an open chair. From there, everything changed. We sat, drank, and chatted, and the level of not only professionalism but genuine personality and kindness blew us away. My husband and I ended up having a fantastic evening. Personality matters, and the employees here provide both a welcoming atmosphere and great drinks. 10/10 — a great environment, and we’re so glad we came back.

Google
DON'T EVER GO TO THE ELF BAR "EVENT"!!! The Elf Bar event at Cap City Tavern was, hands down, the worst Christmas pop-up event I have ever attended. We waited over 40 minutes for water (I had to go to the bar to get it), the drink we ordered was horrible (it was supposed to be a Christmas espresso martini, see photos), and we heard the announcement that we had to close out and leave within 10 minutes after having just been served our greasy food so the 8:30 group could arrive. I am absolutely perplexed as to why on earth this event would charge a fee, let alone a $15+ (per person) fee!!! Go anywhere - LITERALLY ANYWHERE - else to get free Christmas ambiance and better food and drinks!!! What a rip off!!! The owner should be embarrassed.

Google
What a cute little place and the staff went above and beyond! Can’t wait to return for brunch!

Google
Family owned and operated since 2008 (cool note on the menu) - Feel at home w friends but w out the cleanup. Superb sports options for viewing, and in the off season there's spicy Bingo for Sunday Brunches

Google
Great environment, great service, fantastic food! My friends and I have always enjoyed going to Cap City Tavern! I like getting the chicken and fries, mozzarella sticks, and their burger. My significant other said the salad was really good too. I think their fries are homemade, which is what I'm all about! I suggest sitting on the patio and enjoy the sights, and people! The staff has always been really nice, and outgoing! I will be returning!

Yelp
Only had a couple drinks and some fries which were delicious, the server we had was so nice and attentive especially with us only getting a few things I was really impressed and happy with the service. Free pool table and laid back vibe, great place to get together with your friends or family

Yelp
I came here in the middle of the day on Saturday. The entire staff is drugged out of their minds. The place was packed and not a single person was being served. Everyone had been waiting for 20 minutes and only one table was served despite there being 6 front of house employees working. They were poking around slow as can be. Numerous tables were covered in dirty plates that needed bussing. Shocked that this place has 4 stars here on yelp. Must be purchased reviews. Didn't stick around to be dissapointed by the food. Left after 40 min with no service.

Yelp
Minnesota Vikings Bar! What an awesome environment! Great ser ice and good food - with drink/shot specials for the game. This is the first time I had been to a "Vikings bar" outside of Minnesota and it was way cooler than catching a game back home.

Yelp
We stopped in here after visiting the art museum immediately nearby. We ordered a bunch of food, but then the power went out for like a half hour and the kids were unable to get their meals (not the tavern's fault). We did get the bulk of our food and enjoyed the chicken fingers and red chili. Most of us didn't care much for the fries, as they were a bit soggy (not my style). The kids had some Shirley Temples, which they enjoyed, and I had a pilsner that was on tap. I do wish they had a better beer menu, as there weren't really any choices that excited me and they had a lot of domestics. There is plenty of seating and even more available out back. Even though the power went out, the wait staff tried their best to keep things moving, which I thought was great. Our food and drinks kept coming and they checked in on us a few times. I'd try them out again and probably get the Diablo burger.

Yelp
Katie was the best server I have ever had. Her customer service skillz are top notch! I enjoyed it so much that I went back another night. They have Trivia night on Tuesday evenings. The drinks are good and the food is outstanding for a bar! The music selection was entertaining.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch the service and food was great. The ambiance was a typical tavern atmosphere. Nice selection of food to choose from.

Yelp
My husband and I went to the Cap City Tavern for dinner. We were in town for a Sunday afternoon Nuggets game and wanted a spot to watch the NFL playoff game that was on that evening. We were welcomed as soon as we walked in. The server told us we could choose where to sit. There is seating at the bar, at a table or a booth. We picked a booth. It was a Sunday night, so the place was pretty calm and quiet. With multiple televisions, we were both able to see the game from our seats. The bar played music during the commercial breaks. For an appetizer, we got pickle chips. We both love fried pickles and these did not disappoint! I got the Truffled Shroom burger, but with a chicken breast patty. You have multiple options for your protein. The mushrooms were delicious, as was the truffle aioli. My husband got a steak quesadilla and said it was really good. It was a good choice for dinner where we could also watch some sports.

Yelp
Okay for me this was not the place to eat with allergies to Gluten. However, the rest of the group seemed pretty happy with their choices. Service was good and they were knowledgeable if I could eat the sweet potato fries and I couldn't. If you don't have gluten allergies I sat try it. If you do don't bother there isn't much you can eat.

Yelp
Super nice staff!! ( which is a plus in the hate crime waiter world now days) Cute pub , more of you should pop in. It sorta sits alone on a street so maybe it gets over looked but the food was really good "bar " food. Prices seem in line. I have zero Complaints. (( to the owner: if you spent a little more $ on your patio make you could Take some levan bread $$$customers))

Yelp
Lunch treat. We entered through the back and the server told us to sit where we liked. We placed our order and she brought us our drinks while we waited. Easy to have a conversation as it isn't loud in here. We could visit and discuss things without having to shout. She had nachos and I had the blackened fish sandwich. I added fries to my order. It's an up charge now. Ate all the fish and only half of the bread. Finished the fries though. It was nice to have lunch and enjoy ourselves for a minute before we headed back to the grind.

Yelp
This was a nice find. Close the Art District. Plenty of seating and the food was surprisingly better than basic bar food, with very generous portion sizes, and reasonably priced drinks. I had the truffle Burger, it was juicy and tasted great. The drinks were great with a great pour, I had the Colorado mule in a nice copper cup. Lots of high-definition TVs to watch sports. Friendly staff and patrons. Definitely worth a stop.

Yelp
While visiting Nancy we decided to do a museum day. After a couple of hours at the Denver Art museum we came across Cap City Tavern, located next to the parking lot we were parked in. We peered through the dark front window, not sure it was open. I opened the door and was welcomed in by the friendly bartender, who, was later, our waiter as well. The menu is varied with lots of options. I had the Diablo Turkey sandwich, which the waiter said was his fave. The sandwich was delicious with bursting flavors, making a party in my mouth. Everyone else in my group thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Very Friendly place with good food. Yes, it's a bar but the music isn't load, the tv screens are on silent and the food is exceptional

Yelp
As an elder, I remember when dive bars wouldn't have buckets of truffle fries on their menu. As a society, we've now advanced to this level and I think that's beautiful. Nice aperol spritz and the $1 tacos during happy hour are a good value, too. A solid place for after work drinks should you find yourself employed in this part of town.
google avatar

Yelp
Walking in the area and we just stopped in. What a great bar. We're visitors so we wanted to try local beer. We had the apricot blonde and blue moon sandlot. Both were so good! The garlic knots were ok, I'd try something different if we went again. Good just nothing spectacular. Nice vibe. Has outdoor seating as well- when the weather is warmer.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
Very nice neighborhood-style bar with very friendly service and good food. I got the Diablo burger and the sweet potato fries. Both were excellent, although the Diablo burger could have been a bit more Diablo for my tastes. But that's just me. Highly recommended if you're in the Golden Triangle.
google avatar

Falon T.

Yelp
Me and my boyfriend were wanting to try someplace new downtown that had a little bit of everything on the menu and Cap City was just the place for us!! We had the mozz sticks, wings, and split a mushroom burger and everything was spectacular! We sat up at the bar and the bartender was super cool! We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Mike Z.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch while visiting the area museums. Luckily we got there before two large groups entered. Even after the groups were sat our service remained great. The Old Fashioned Burger was tasty along with a large portion of fries.

Jeff T.

Yelp
Food, atmosphere, and service were outstanding. My wife and I sat at the bar for some appetizer and a couple of drinks. We then decided to have dinner at the bar. The fish tacos were amazing and my wife's green pork chili was tasty. I'd definitely go back!

H. Wellie W.

Yelp
Thumbs down all around to this place, unfortunately. Watered down drinks, poor attitudes from waitstaff, slow service and sub-par food.
google avatar

Gina K.

Yelp
Cap City is walking distance from my place so, I deducted to check it out one night for a quick bite. Overall, it's an average bar/tavern. They have regular drink specials and the food is find but nothing overly special about it. The service is good and the waitresses were attentive even though I sat in the patio. I would go back just due to proximity to my place.
google avatar

Yelp
Cap City Tavern is one of my newly discovered hidden gems. It's hidden sort of behind and/or in between areas with bigger buildings so it can definitely easily be missed as it is just nestled behind the EVIVA apartments. I can't say enough about the service. It was excellent. Our waitress, whose name I can't remember recommended me the special that day which was the BLT wrap. She talked about how she ate the same thing for lunch and was pleased with it. I made a few slight modifications, and she was unbothered by that. There were about 6 or 7 of us, and we were all FLOORED with how good everything was. The Mac and Cheese was divine. I passed it around the table more than once! The wrap was crispy full of flavor, and did not skimp on the buffalo sauce. I truly enjoyed my meal. I was literally "mmm ing" through the entire dinner. The patio is a bit divey but do not be deterred. Cap City Tavern knows how to do it. FROM SCRATCH!

Yelp
Great place in Denver to watch an Minnesota vikings game. Could use a few more good beer choices.
google avatar

Brena E.

Yelp
I used to be a regular at Cap City, but it had been years since I was there. It was just as I remembered it. Definitely a bar atmosphere, but good food and drinks.
google avatar

Colby C.

Yelp
Used to come in here on the regular before moving a bit further away but wanted to come back for lunch. Love the laid back atmosphere and the customer service is A+. Sidney behind the bar was very personable and attentive to us and other customers. Ordered the lamb gyro and had a special request for a sandwich that is a special sometimes. Carlos in the kitchen was happy to make it for us! Quality is good and fresh. The house salad is crispy and all the dressings/sauces have great flavor. Bonus is the parking lot directly behind the building is their lot so park for free! Give this spot a try.

Yelp
The last of my Denver foodcation yelp reviews. This happened to be the first place we ate at once we got settled in from the airport. When first walking in it definitely had a tavern feel with geriatrics filling the tables. Felt a little out of place with a loud one year old but I learned that old people love babies so they didn't mind his random loudness. The server was super cool and liked interacting with my son, he definitely helped take the edge off. I get a little nervous going out with my toddler son, I just never know how turned up he'll be. The food came out in a reasonable time. My wife had sweet potato fries that were really good. She laughed and said my fries looked dead. My fries did look dead and reminded me of "Five Guys" fries. My Shrimp n Bacon sandwich was really good and the slaw adds a very good taste to the sandwich. Different and good. All and all a great place, and good experience. Recommended

Yelp
We had lunch here yesterday and everything was fantastic. My spicy cocktail was made to balanced perfection and the basket of pickle chips was so good (and there was so much!). The blackened tilapia tacos were outstanding and I didn't get as many pickle chips down because I was focused on the tacos. My partner thoroughly enjoyed his cocktail, Cobb salad and mac n' cheese. Service was great too.
google avatar

R R.

Yelp
When you typically see "bar&grill" or "tavern" you don't think quality food most of the time. Not the case at CCT. The menu is full of quality, fresh, and inspired options for each person in your group! The Shroom, Swiss and Truffle Burger was packed with flavor. The calzone had some of the lightest, tastiest crust I've experienced and my daughter got the veggie sandwich that she couldn't stop eating! (Side note: don't sleep on the fresh made pomegranate ketchup to go with your fries or onion rings!). I could keep going about our apps and sides as well. I'm telling you, whether it's a cold local beer on tap or a bite from a thoughtfully designed menu that taste as good as it reads, go experience Cap City Tavern!
google avatar

Nadine B.

Yelp
Great service and open late (2am). Nadia really took care of us. And, they have pickle-infused vodka!
google avatar

Christy N.

Yelp
Amazing fried pickles and great service. Came to get some work done and this was a fantastic spot to sit, eat some food and hydrate. The made in house lemonade is pretty decent! They also have free wifi.
google avatar

RJ A.

Yelp
Always delicious! The service is great and friendly, and there's always a game on. Would recommend a seasonal beer with your burger.
google avatar

Jack S.

Yelp
Threw up in their bathroom after eating their shrimp tempura bacon on ciabatta. The mozzarella sticks were okay, but the chicken corn chowder was not good. My fault for ordering seafood in CO.
google avatar

Mo C.

Yelp
This place has been a sanctuary during the pandemic. They brought back trivia (which brought back a sense of normalcy in the chaos). They have their standard great menu of burgers and bar fare. Their taplist is great, a nice variety & great local brews. And their servers are so patient and kind to a rowdy lot sick of being cooped up. Parking used to be a challenge, but is wide open & free after 6pm these days. We haven't had to wait for a table and the atmosphere is comfortable & safe. I appreciate this place and others who are doing their best to accommodate us and the ever-changing restrictions these days.
google avatar

Ben C.

Yelp
This is a go-to staple for us in Capitol Hill. Especially during COVID, it is a lesser frequented place and their outside seating is perfect to make you feel safe and still have a nice time. Their wings are fabulous. Their IPA is dangerously delicious. The service is perhaps the best of it all. We met the owners and everyone was very concerned about us having the best possible experience. We will always return here. It is upgraded bar food that is both yummy and fresh!
google avatar

Melissa K.

Yelp
Darin was the best server! Sometimes I forget service is still a thing and thing someone like Darin comes along. He recommended items on the menu and how he has had them prepared and served. He picked my beer and it was great! Thank you, Darin for being such a great service. Also, about the food. So good! We got the turkey diablo sandwich with fries and apple and greens salad. This is a clean, well staffed bar and restaurant. Yes! You should go!!!
google avatar

Jeff C.

Yelp
Great food and service. Daily specials. Within walking distance of my hotel. Pleasantly surprised friendly staff.
google avatar

Annette F.

Yelp
Tasty brunch after visiting the art musuem. Great service, lots of good menu choices.
google avatar

Mercedes W.

Yelp
Show up 30-45 minutes before Vikings game. Bar opens at 10 if a game is at 11 on Sunday. Street parking across bar is free on Sundays. Obviously it's a Vikings bar. During the game don't expect much service and order while you can. Their dips come in a very small cup so I suggest ordering double because you won't get an opportunity to get another. They have drink specials. If you are a Vikings fan in Denver you need to be here!

Kendra P.

Yelp
stopped in after museum visit and order the special for friday, fish and chips, super under seasoned and over priced. disappointing. never order the fish and chips! everything else there was pretty tasty. sad fries.
google avatar

Paul P.

Yelp
Bartenders here were curiously inept. A member of my party was refused service because his form of ID was a passport card. The bartender tried to explain how passport cards were not valid ID. My friend explained it's not only a more certain form of ID than most out of state IDs but it's also listed on the state site for valid form of identification. It was borderline ludicrous.
google avatar

Yelp
We were denied indoor seating with a medical alert service dog, which is a violation of the ADA. Restaurants are considered public accommodations and must follow Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act ("ADA"), which provides that service animals must be allowed to accompany people with disabilities in places open to the public. He was wearing a vest and we were prepared to provide documentation that the dog was trained service animal but were denied anyway. This restaurant discriminates against people with disabilities.
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
Freaking love this place! Food is delicious, drinks are awesome, staff is super friendly, and the owners are so cool. I know they have good drinks, but I can't get over there strawberry tequila. Due to covid they sell it by the bottle. Every time I drive by I have to stop in and get one. If you haven't had a chance to check out Cap City, make sure you put it at the top of your list of places to check out. I give them 5 stars and a high 5!
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
Wish I could give this establishment "0" stars. Waited an hour & 15 minutes for service. Oh, the waitress came by our table after waiting 40 mins and dropped off water, "promising to stop by for our drink order".... Short story - that never happened. After sitting for an hour and 15 minutes we had no choice but to get up and leave. I can only assume the food and drinks are as awful as the service.
google avatar

Yelp
Paid way too much ($80) for what we got (wings, burger, chicken sandwich, 2 beers, and a mule). Came here from a recommendation of the Hilton concierge... we should have known better, clearly they wanted to stimulate the local neighborhood. We should have done our research and found a better quality place for the price. First table was dive bar sticky, so we moved to the back patio only to get dripped on with cold rain for the whole meal from the tin roof in the back. It's a cool looking space, but clearly not weather proof. We got way better service from the guy at the bar than our waitress... wish that hospitality would have continued! Our first beer wasn't filled up all the way and was a flat local ale. The mule was okay, I've definitely had better, disappointing if that's what this place is known for. The food was pretty good quality, well seasoned and cooked, even though it all took a while. Truffle burger was good on flavor but small patty. Chicken wings were solid; chicken patty for the sandwich could have been double the size. The quality of food/drinks/service definitely did not match up with price we paid and we left feeling cold, wet, and a bit ripped off.
google avatar

Gabriel W.

Yelp
This dark little bar seemed to have everything you need. We went with the truffle fries and pickle chips, a dirty pickle martini and an IPA. The fries were ok, good and greasy with some slightly melted shaved parmesan. The pickle chips were the classic Vlasic dills with breading which was the same juice for the martini. They were good. Wait staff was very attentive and we enjoyed the bar area. Wish we had time for a game of pool!
google avatar

G D.

Yelp
Rude and disorganized! Didn't even bother ordering food. Walked in and was ignored so me and my friend decided to seat ourselves at a corner table without menus (and no one else around). Waited 5 minutes and were greeted by a guy that yelled at us saying we can't sit there, and then he just left. Didn't say hi, didn't ask if we wanted anything to drink. We just left immediately as it left a bad taste in our mouths. I'll take my business elsewhere where I'm not greeted with being yelled at for sitting at a table without a menu, despite not having any one else around.
google avatar

Tom M.

Yelp
Listen to me carefully, they have the *BEST* wings in Denver. I grew up in Buffalo, NY, so I would know what a good wing is. Cap City makes the best we have. It's not the sauce that makes the wing, it's how it's cooked. I've brought most of my friends here and they've all been shocked. Great to finally have one place to go for wings that reminds me of how they're supposed to be done. Other than that, just a nice corner bar kind of place. Staff are friendly.
google avatar

Ashley F.

Yelp
I have been coming to this spot since march with my gf and it's been not only amazing food but such friendly service-- if you sit at the bar make sure you ask for steph or nick
google avatar

Dana W.

Yelp
I was pleased with a random visit to this place. First off they have about 10 parking spots in the back so that is always a plus downtown! We came for wing night but was surprised at what a deal we got. 2 pounds of wings and a free pitcher for $28.00 so for 2 people, you can not beat that (and that price was with 2 beers purchased preciously so an even cheaper dinner night!) Nick the server was amazing, even stayed to chit chat with us and the Covid protocols were in point. I felt super safe there. I will be back and may make this my bitmap Thursday hangout due to the cheap wing deals!

Ryan D.

Yelp
This is my favorite lunch spot. Good service and really good food. Comfortable bar atmosphere. The green chili is a highlight.
