Everything about this place was great. The atmosphere is very cozy, dim lights, nice for a romantic date. I’ve been here twice and have had a great time. The workers are friendly and very attentive. We come from Charlotte, NC so we wanted quality food We had the pleasure of meeting Reza there and he was just such a wonderful time. After a year he still remembered us which was very sweet of him. I got the Caesar salad and lobster and crab ravioli and it was all very good. 10/10 recommend :)

I reserved a table online, which was super easy, but when I arrived, there was a wait time of about 10 minutes. While I understand things can get busy, I noticed some guests who arrived after me were seated before my group, which felt a bit unfair and frustrating. The food and ambiance were great, but the service left a lot to be desired. I’d recommend the restaurant to others, but it’s disappointing to experience this kind of inconsistency. Hopefully, the management will address it moving forward.

Google
The restaurant has a charming atmosphere, but the food falls short. The calamari was dry and overcooked, pretty much inedible. The lasagna and mussels lacked much flavor. The service was fine, but overall, there’s no strong reason to come back.

Hi! I’m Italian, have been raised on homemade pastas and sauces, have spent time in Italy, and the cuisine my fam most often goes out to eat in the U.S. is Italian. So if you’re in the same boat and are very critical of Italian, I hope my review helps you decide between Capa Tosta and other [better] options in the district: Capa Tosta has lovely vibes outside on the patio, and they even have a special on Tuesdays and Wednesdays where you can get a bottle of wine if you buy dinner for two. If you take advantage of this and also get the Chicken Parm, you will be pleased. However, in general, for other dishes, I would NOT recommend this restaurant for authentic and flavorful Italian food and am shocked to see its current rating is so high. The bread they bring out was not good. Was not warm, did not have any pizazz, did not taste particularly fresh — reminiscent of of a thin sliced Italian bread loaf I’d get pre-cut from a Walmart Deli. I was trying to decide between ravioli and gnocchi, and settled on the Gnocchi Sorrento. The burrata on top was great - that was the only praise-worthy thing about this dish. If you are familiar with gnocchi, a high-quality gnocchi,  should be tender, soft, and delicate - almost melting in your mouth - rather than tough or chewy. If the melt-in-mouth quality is a 10, and tough and chewy is a 1 - I’d say this was a 4 or 5. If the texture on a gnocchi is a let-down, at least a superb sauce can be a redeeming quality of a dish. However, this was yet another ding: There was another review that mentioned the sauce tasted cheap and jarred. I 100% echo that. The “San Marzano” tomato sauce was the blandest red sauce I’ve ever had. Lacked any flavor or complexity. I didn’t even bother finishing my dish, as I had deemed it a sheer waste of calories — I thought I was being overly critical, so had my German partner try it and his words were “wow, this is an absolute joke - I don’t want to eat it either”. My mom was also disappointed with her Chicken Marsala and said although the chicken was cooked well, the dish lacked flavor, even with extra Marsala sauce. My partner and dad were pleased with their Chicken Parms and thought they were excellent, which jives with the other reviews - hence why I think this is the only dish I’d recommend. It also comes with a vodka sauce — when I had bites of my partner’s pasta that came with his chicken parm, this sauce was much better than my San Marzano tomato sauce. Service was good. You could tell the wait staff were really trying to be friendly, warm and welcoming — which they did well — but we weren’t particularly impressed by their skill. FYI - The credit card you put down to make a $50 reservation for a party of 4+ automatically gets used for the entire tab, without even asking/confirming with the patron first. When I booked it said “Due to our limited seating and demand, we require a $50 refundable deposit to confirm your reservation. This security deposit is only non-refundable if you cancel under 24-hours” — was not aware they wouldn’t ask to apply it to the tab, or use for the whole tab. When we complained about it (my parents were in town and treating me to dinner for my bday) the staff was very sweet to try to make it better with dessert (The tiramisu was great). I gave an extra star for service because of their attempts to atone the issue, but still feel so strongly about the low quality of the food that I regret to be leaving an altogether low review regardless.

Google
Beautiful ambiance and great food! I had the calamari (very light and perfect crunch), the eggplant parmesan (fresh! Leading to a perfect crunch with fresh marinara also), and the crab and lobster ravioli (generous filling and delightful sauce). The highlight was decidedly the tiramisu; I normally hate it for being soggy and bitter, but their rendition is light and airy. The owner is also generous and charming. Definitely glad I went!

This place is really nice, great date night spot. Service was slower than what I’m use to seeing in my staff. It may be a southern hospitality thing but I didn’t know the servers name until I saw it in the check. So I couldn’t call him for anything. Drinks were great, nice balance, good flavor a little stronger. Food was hit or miss. Partner had Chicken Parm and was it wonderful. I had the gnocchi and the pasta itself was great but the sauce tasted cheap as if it was store bought. I put the atmosphere at a 4 as there were servers just standing about and what appeared to be guests going to the kitchen which isn’t nice when you’re right next to the kitchen.

Google
Overall very tasty and a nice atmosphere. Was able to make a reservation as it’s not too huge of a place. A couple of things could be improved, they forgot about our drinks (other tables got their before) and we got ours after the food. A salad was mixed up and there was no rush to get the right order out…. The chicken parm is definitely the one to get.

Been wanting to come for a while and finally stopped in while on the run. The meatballs were excellent and I live bread when it’s served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar! Mama Mia!! I’ll be back for a more extensive meal bit the bread was wonderful and the meatball with the bursts were scrumptious!!!

Yelp
Absolutely delicious Italian food!! We were suggested to come here for dinner by a friend and they did not disappoint! The staff - so friendly and attentive The meatballs - a must get The Chicken Parm - a must get The bread - super soft and a delicious starter at the table with ingredients ready for you to make your own dip The Rigatoni Alla Norma - this was pretty loaded with veggies so if you're into that, get it! I liked the chicken parm more though The drink/wine selection - huge selection and the Pinot Grigio was just what the doctor ordered! Inside it was super cute -- there's plenty of seating and they had the AC on which was so nice on a hot summer day Outside -- a great sized patio out front if you're looking to dine outside somewhere! Definitely check out Capa Tosta if you're in Columbia Heights!

Yelp
Micro Review Ordered delivery - dish still looked great! Ordered the pumpkin ravioli since its fall vibes. I don't enjoyed the filling and thought the pine nuts added a fullness to the sauce. One order of ravioli may be enough for a meal, but I'd recommend an appetizer to augment it if you're really hungry.

Yelp
What a fantastic little restaurant. It does not have a vast menu, but what they have is cooked perfectly and homemade, yes, I asked. We had the meatballs for an appetizer, along with the antipasto. Everybody likes their meatballs a little differently. I love these meatballs. They were great. My nephew had the chicken Parm. He's 16 220 pounds and loves to eat; he cannot finish the portion. My wife is a vegetarian and had the eggplant Parm, which is under the appetizer. It was perfect for her, and she loved it. And she's a PITA. I went with the recommendation of the veal tortellini, and I'm so glad I did. our waiter who is also the bartender was fantastic of course I forgot his name, but watching all the waiters work together nonstop throughout the night was amazing.

Yelp
Nonna's Lasagna: 9/10 Tucked on a corner in the Columbia Heights neighborhood, CapaTosta is home to some delicious italian inspired food. It's small but warm atmosphere is perfect for a girls night, dinner with family, & more! Their dishes are homemade with locally grown ingredients which makes way for some great food. The service was kind & accommodating. She was able to give us great recommendations and brought everything out quick. I highly recommend stopping by this cute little spot for some great food, service, & cocktails!

Yelp
The chicken parm with vodka sauce was unreal and the potion was very generous. I was there alone so I sat at the bar and all the staff are very friendly. I lived a block away for 2 years but the storefront is so unsuspecting so took me a while to go inside

Yelp
Capa Tosta is a casual Italian restaurant in Columbia Heights. It's a pretty simple menu with all the staples ravioli, lasagna, chicken parm etc. Our server was very nice and gave great recommendations. The food and drinks also come out very quickly. I had the lobster and crab ravioli, espresso martini and dio mio.

Yelp
Fantastic food and restaurant. Great appetizers and pastas. I think this is a new spot but totally worth checking out

Yelp
If you love Italian in an accessibly classy neighborhood spot, make a reservation at Capa Tosta in Pleasant Plains. My friend and I made last minute reservations for 7:45 p.m. on a Wednesday evening for dinner and drinks. We left impressed. Here's why. 1) Food: The menu is divided between starts, mains, and a surprisingly large dessert menu. My friend ordered the bolognese and I the chicken parm. We both really enjoyed our meals. The chicken parm is HUGE! It's a large thin cut of chicken on top of pasta. The pasta came with vodka sauce, which I don't usually like, but loved this one. It even outshined the chicken, which was also great. To start, complimentary warm bread came out. The oil and balsamic vinegar on the table went well with it. 2) Drinks: Italian drinks skew more bitter, but as a sweet drinker, I enjoyed the "Cali" with vodka, elderflower, lime, processo, and lemon peel. My friend really enjoyed the negroni. 3) Service: It was attentive and on point. They left us alone while taking care of our every need at the same time. 4) Space: It's a small space with a dining room, a bar, and an outdoor patio. Because it's more intimate, it makes for a great date spot. 5) Neighborhood: There's a lot to walk to in this neighborhood from restaurants in Park View to bars in Columbia Heights. We found street parking a few blocks from the restaurant.

Yelp
Great service w a smile. Nice vibe. Just a great small Italian restaurant. Would def recommend to anyone. Especially when the mood hits. So funny, sopranos playing on the tv at the bar. Gotta love it.

Yelp
I was thinking of chicken parm all week. I get these cravings out of nowhere. Eater recommended Capa Tosta so I made a reservation. Parking was challenging. Metro was too far away. Eventually I found a spot...I was concerned as most of the houses and businesses had bars on the windows. I head into the restaurant. First impression is how small it is inside. Not a cut, just an observation. I would say it has a cozy kind of place good for a date or family dinner out. I grab a seat at the bar. I already looked at the wine selection so I decided on a glass of the house red. The menu has a lot of good choices but I ultimately decided on the chicken parmesan with pasta and sauce. It's a Thursday at dinnertime and I'm alone in the restaurant...maybe later things will pick up. My food arrives and smells delicious. I order a wine refill and I'm enjoying the tasty sauce and tender chicken. It's two tenders vs a chicken breast but no matter. Solid quality and taste. After a while I pay the check and I'm out. This is the second restaurant recommended by de.eater.com that has been in a rough neighborhood. I'll be doing my research elsewhere. When you're worried about where you parked and whether the car will be there when you're done eating it makes the dining experience less enjoyable.

Yelp
Super cozy, warm, and a great Italian place to check out. I have friends over the town and they are craving good Italian food. It was absolutely amazing flavor. It's not factory-made salt and spicy flavor, it's a well-trained or friend's mom's awesome meal for loved ones. A group of six ordered 12 entrees. That's how it is, and we're stuffed, but we can't stop trying more and more. I strongly recommend to people who really want to have home-cook style Italian meals.

Yelp
This was overall a mixed bag experience. This is a tiny neighborhood Italian spot, close to where I live. I love local spots, such as Little Coco's, an Italian neighborhood spot in Columbia Heights that consistently hits it out of the park. Unfortunately, this was not the case with Capa Tosta. Our server, while very friendly, was not just dropping the ball the entire night, it's like he never even had it in the first place. We were seated next to the door -- fine, even if it was February in DC. After being seated, we waited over 20 minutes before our server actually showed up. We ordered everything at once since my partner and I have kids (who were very hungry). But after 30 minutes passed and my husband and I still didn't have a cocktail, we knew something was off. Turns out, not only were our drinks never put in, but neither was our dinner! Okay, lapse of memory. We then had to completely go through our entire order. We asked for bread a few times to help keep the 3.5 year olds happy, but it never came. Then when we asked for more water, our server spilled the pitcher all over my partners bag with his laptop! Omg, what a mess! Our food eventually arrived -- and the kids were so hungry and cranky. My husband enjoyed the food but I actually thought it was bland, which was the pasta bolognese and a side of meatballs. I was pretty disappointed in this place. They didn't charge us for a round of drinks, which was nice. And honestly, everyone was very friendly. Still, not a place I'd rush back to.

Joseph D.

Yelp
Overall, solid Italian food. The No. 9 cocktail was well balanced. The frito misto was an excellent start with a combination of meaty calamari, succulent zucchini, and spicy peppers. The Bolognese was average. The lobster/crab ravioli had really good texture and taste. To end things, the tiramisu was not to miss with its use of real mascarpone! The service was decent, there was a seeming lack of experience but they were friendly and accommodating. The restaurant is very cute, it would likely be super crowded if it was in a more central location. Overall, a cute place a bit off the beaten path but would recommend if wanting a solid Italian meal!

Yelp
My wife is a frequent partner on my dining adventures, but she leaves the Yelp review writing to me. She'll often share her opinions on a place, but for this dining experience she insisted that I give it 5 stars and she was 100% correct! The dining area of this place has a great vibe - it's small and intimate without feeling crowded. They have a great selection of cocktails - I had the limoncello spritz and it was really good. The others in our group enjoyed their cocktails, too. For my entree, I got the Lobster and Crab Ravioli and it was quite tasty, The bisque sauce was very unique. My daughter got the Rigatoni Alla Vodka and loved it. I had a taste of it and it was delicious. As for my wife, she got the Bolognese. She is a big fan of Bolognese and gets it at many different places we visit and she says this was the best, by far!

Yelp
Cute spot with yummy Italian food. Had nice service and food came out very quickly. Crispy artichokes were light and crispy and the pesto/ lemon sauce was yummy. We even dipped our bread in it! Our dishes were great too: Cavatelli Pesto and Orechiette pugliese! We didn't leave any leftovers! Sausage was so flavorful. Pesto sauce was light and fresh. If we had more room, we would have tried the dessert! This restaurant is cashless and also adds at 20% service tax, which our waiter kindly pointed out.

Yelp
This is a long overdue five-star review, but I'm finally checking it off my list. Capa Tosta is a phenomenal place - the food and people are wonderful! My partner and I came here for Valentine's Day, and it was an "escape" because the ambiance and food were on point. The dessert was the perfect ending to a beautiful Valentine's Day dinner. After a wonderful experience there, I knew I had to take my sister and her friends there as the place for dinner before we painted the town red (as part of her bachelorette weekend). The bachelorette dinner celebration was held in April and the team at Capa Tosta really took good care of us. They made our table look and feel extra special for the occasion, and my sister (bride-to-be) LOVED every minute of it. Having delicious food, kind company, and celebratory vibes really set the night off to a great start, and I'm so grateful to Sam and his team at Capa Tosta. Oh! And I wish I had pictures of the food, but we forgot to take some because we jumped straight to eating (that's how good the food looked, smelled, and tasted!).

Yelp
Capa Tosta is a nice looking neighborhood Italian fine dining bistro with a fancy patio and nice ambiance. We had to order take-out because they said they were booked solid for the entire evening even though we arrived right after opening and the place was completely empty. Um, ok. Perhaps we were refused service because we were dressed casually? Last time I checked my money was still green. Portions of food were small and absolutely tasteless. For $30 I got an appetizer sized portion of tortellini (exactly 12, I counted) in an alfredo sauce(?) that had the taste and consistency of glue. It would be easy to still be hungry after ordering this dish as a main course. Gnocchi tasted like someone cut up Pillsbury dough and tossed it in some tomato soup. Bolognese sauce was also completely bland, if it was Chef prepared I suspect his last name was Boyardee. Fritto Misto calamari was decent but nothing special. I think their food looks a lot better on their Instagram than it does when it's actually served, maybe they can give me the Instagram food instead. Overall, my reaction is meh. I just don't understand where all these rave reviews came from, it's like they ate somewhere completely different. Whatevs. Capa Tosta is perhaps a small step up from Olive Garden but definitely not even close to Filomena which is where I will go from now on.

Yelp
Tuesday 5:30 reservation and the place was empty. Had an early show at 9:30 Club (10 min walk) so we were happy. Ordered a Sazerac and it was tasty but light. Had Fritto Misto and the portion was huge. Lots of fried veggies, calamari and such. Did find a hot pepper but could have had more of those. Daughter and SIL ordered Caesar salads, again good portions and crisp. For meal I had the Bolognese, SIL the Cavetelli and daughter Ravioli. All good portions and fresh and tasty. Really loved my comboniation but the lobster crab ravioli was fantastic. Would give it five stars but the prices were too high, even for DC.

Yelp
I came to Capa Tosta for a friend's graduation celebration and was really impressed! We had the entire upstairs space to ourselves for the evening with two large tables to accommodate everyone. There was a bar upstairs as well, although it was really just a space for serving water and taking beverage orders since all drinks were made downstairs and brought up to us. The menu had a great selection and they even had gluten free penne pasta! Yay! I started with an aperol spritz and then shared brussel sprouts and truffle fries with some of my tablemates. Holy moley, the brussel sprouts were amazing. Dare I say, some of the best I've ever had? The truffle fries were good too, very flavorful and a nice shoestring cut. I got the gluten free penne with vodka sauce and chicken as my entree. It was well prepared and was a generous serving size (enough for leftovers). It's always a little questionable ordering gluten free pasta because if it is overcooked even just a little it will quickly fall apart. The dish came out perfectly al dente. They knew exactly what they were doing! I also ordered an espresso martini for after the meal but unfortunately, it never came. I'm thinking it must have just gotten lost in the shuffle - it was a huge party after all. Overall, this was a great meal surrounded by great people! The owner even came up to say hi and he was super nice (and actually Italian which is always a plus in my book). Saluti!

Yelp
Unfortunately, I don't recommend this restaurant. The food, as my partner aptly described, is "lazy". The kale in the salad still had ribs and was not massaged; just hunks of rough kale with seemingly store bought pre crumbled blue cheese. Both of our pastas were over cooked and flaccid, and the sauces were shallow. The bread to start was also weird. When you had the attention of the servers, they were nice. Otherwise staff seemed overwhelmed with tables. Ended the meal with an Uber to Reveler's Hour.

Yelp
Came here last week for dinner before a work party at hook hall; we made reservations online and had to push it back due to crazy DC traffic and as others reported the person on the phone was quite rude; but that's the only complaint. Not sure why they were so rude as this place only had one other party inside on a Saturday night... this place is intimate (read small; but they may have an additional room or additional space we were at the main dining when you walk in. If it's a cold night you're going to feel it as there is no double door. Aldo was our server and he was incredible! We got the espresso martini and lemonchello spritz to start and the martini changed my life!! Aldo was attentive, knowledgeable, and recommended a seafood dish our friend absolutely raved about!! Our food came out quickly and tasted delicious!!

Yelp
What a cute local gem! Amazing drinks, food and service. My new go-to for an Aperol Spritz. The meatballs and chicken parm were cooked to perfection and so delicious. We felt so taken care by the owner and staff - would come back!

Yelp
We placed an order via their website for delivery at 5:45 PM. At 6:20 PM I called them to inquire about the status. They said a driver had picked it up. At 6:23 PM they called me back to say they were wrong and a driver had yet to be assigned - estimated delivery for 7:29 PM. Now, that all is ok. Online ordering and delivery is tricky! And I really appreciated how they called me back and updated me with different info and apologized. That's really great customer service! So why 2 stars? The food. Obviously, if you're ordering delivery, you should not expect thing things to all be hot and at an equal temp. So no issues there. In fact, most of the food traveled pretty well. But $28 for the "Feast" (a charcuterie plate) and all we got was those teeny tiny triangles of cheese? Please please tell me they messed up and gave us a "Nibble" order instead? (Also, i then def want my money back.) And it wasn't even good or unique cheese and meat. We, honestly, had better in our fridge. It was a HUGE letdown. $8 for "garlic bread"? What part of that was "garlic bread"? Pretty much zero garlic and a little slice of some cheese thrown on top. It was inedible. The fritto (fried calamari, shrimp, and zucchini) was tasty. The lemon aoli was delicious! The chopped salad had a nice kick to it. Fresh. Great dressing. Worth the cost? Eh. In sum, I appreciated the call back re: delivery. But will we order from here again? Highly likely not. Maybe we mis-ordered and should've gone for other dishes (like pasta and entrees)? But I can say for what we got and what it cost (and it being nearly 2 hrs after we requested), hard pass and not something we'd get again.

Yelp
My friend and I stumbled upon Capa Tosta early on a Saturday night while walking through Pleasant Plains. We were seated right away and there was only one other couple in there since it was early (just before 5pm) and it filled out a bit more by the time we left around 6:30. The crispy artichoke appetizer was delicious! It was lightly fried and drizzled with a refreshing lemon pesto sauce. I got the Orechiette pugliese- homemade pasta with sausage and broccoli rabe in a white wine sauce. My pasta was quite oily and wasn't as flavorful as I expected. I would like to try something else next time as they have a lot of great options. My friend really enjoyed her Cavatelli Pesto with shrimp. The pesto was similar to the that which was drizzled over the crispy artichokes and it was light but flavorful. The prices are a little bit on the expensive side but if you're looking for a more formal Italian dinner- this is a great place to check out! With a fully stocked bar and a great wine selection it would make for a great date spot.

Yelp
Came to Capa Tosta for a date night dinner and we were blown away! The restaurant is cozy and casual but still feels romantic. The service is also phenomenal and our server, Arturo, went above and beyond to make us feel special! The drinks we got were extremely fun and had a smokey element to them--I had a Limoncello Spritz and my boyfriend got the Tony Soprano "Negroni." As for food, we ordered the fritto misto, paccheri bolognese, and the lobster and crab ravioli. Everything was a hit! I loved the fried brocollini that was incorporated into the fritto misto. Both pastas were cooked perfectly with a great bite. The bolognese had a deliciously classic home-cooked feel to it. The ravioli was an absolute star. My boyfriend usually doesn't go for seafood pastas and he said it was his favorite dish of the night. For dessert, we got the bombolini and chocolate truffle. Both were great, but the bombolini is really a must if you come here! Overall, I had a great experience and I'm really looking forward to coming back.

Yelp
I celebrated my birthday here. I am giving it a 3 out of 5. There were a couple of missteps is the reason for the 3. Overall many of the dishes we ordered were good and tasty. The customer service at the restaurant was good but over the phone before I got there was alittle shaky. The person over the phone gave me a lecture on changing my reservation due to no fault of my own. Now the food. We ordered the truffle fries, Brussels, artichokes, some cocktails and a bottle of red wine. The Brussels, artichokes were really good. The bolognese for the main dish was okay thought it was underseasoned. I was waiting to order the cannoli. Ordered the cannoli after dinner and thought it lacked sweetness, the cream had no flavor. If you want a quick neighborhood spot to grab a drink I think it would be okay!

Yelp
We braved the patio on a blustery Saturday night and enjoyed almost everything about this cute spot. The appetizers were excellent - we enjoyed the meatballs and crispy artichokes. The mains took a bit and the portions were quite small but tasty - lasagne and cacio e pepe. The service was great - and the one thing that took us aback was the price of my husbands drinks. It was cold so he originally ordered a hot toddy. The bartender suggested a boozy cappuccino. We didn't taste much booze but it was cold so he had more than one ;) when we got the check we found that each of his drinks was $4 for the cappuccino plus $12 for the shot of whatever was in it, making that a pretty pricey weak drink. Despite the drink miscommunication we'd come back as the food was great :)

Yelp
We had an excellent dinner there this evening. I really enjoy small restaurants that are in a neighborhood and this place really fits that. Excellent food. Attentive service. Strongly recommend.

Yelp
This Italian restaurant is the perfect cozy date spot - we loved the meatballs and mushroom cacio e pepe. Both were seasoned well and very tasty. Great for comfort food and the price point was definitely reasonable for the portion size. We shared the meatballs and pasta for two people and left feeling full.

Yelp
Hidden gem in Pleasant Plains/Columbia Heights. I drive up Sherman Ave and always see this place... finally stopped in last night and was not disappointed! Familiar Italian favorites, house-made pastas, handcrafted cocktails, Italian wines, wonderful service. We had the Burrata, Frito Misto, and Meatballs Al Sugo to share. For my entree I had the Chicken Marsala, sooo good. Exactly what a Chicken Marsala should be. My friends had the Cavatelli Pesto, Penne Alla Vodka, and Eggplant Parm. All simple classics done right. We were able to grab a seat for four without reservations on a rainy Friday night. This will be my new neighborhood Italian spot. Looking forward to dining on their patio in the summer time.

Yelp
From top to bottom, our dinner at Capa Tosta was a deliciously memorable first visit. The epitome of a warm and welcoming neighborhood spot, Capa Tosta will whisk you away to an intimate, family home dining experience. Service was prompt, attentive and accommodating. We ordered the Brussel sprouts and Meatballs al Sugo to start. The Brussel sprouts were cooked to perfection--the right amount of crispy meets melt in your mouth tender. The balsamic glaze and manchego cheese combined for a delicious rich savory sweetness meets subtle salty. The Meatballs got top marks from the meat eater at the table. We ordered the Tagliolini alla Norma and Rigatoni alla Vodka for our mains. The Tagliolini was cooked al dente on the mark, layered in a flavorful, cherry tomato sauce with delicate roasted eggplant. The burrata really makes the dish, slowly mixing into the pasta to deliver a creamy rich complement. The Rigatoni got a strong 4 stars, with the sauce making a a solid impression. Looking forward to our next meal!

Yelp
This place was super cute and delicious! We sat outside and they asked if we wanted to be moved in because it was going to rain. The waiter was friendly and pleasant. All of the staff members made sure we were taken care of. My husband got he last a and was not disappointed. I got the gnocchi in a mushroom cream sauce, so delicious and the mushroom flavor was spot on, the inside had pleasant music and was nicely dim lit. I highly recommend. The caprese a was the only thing that could have been better, but it wasn't bad.

Yelp
The patio is nice on a nice evening. I ordered the lobster and crab ravioli in bisque but the serving size was ridiculously small for the price. I then got a more appropriately sized, albeit still expensive, dessert. Staff was friendly but the server didn't check on us pretty much at all our entire time there (~2 hours) though the manager (I presume that's who it was) did. I tipped the customary amount but the service was so meh, it had me questioning my decision after the fact. I more than likely won't be back.

Yelp
(Edit: after repeated pestering comments from the owner, I'm editing my review to focus instead on apparent lack of desire to focus on the content of my comment, which was the uninspired food preparation and lack of professionalism in attacking customers. Yes the aesthetic is weird, but not why they aren't a good restaurant, it was a side note. But I would make a point of not returning based on the owners attitude alone.) The menu is not that interesting - if you're going to have dishes like chicken parm and spaghetti and meatballs, the execution should be phenomenal, but the food was solidly average if not below. Like my friends who don't cook could boil pasta and use jars of sauce and get a similar result. And at the price point, I would rather have eaten at Olive Garden for better flavor. Glad I tried it given its a rare new neighborhood spot. would not recommend it to friends for food quality but would recommend just to hang out (edit: would no longer recommend)

Yelp
I went here for a birthday dinner with a large group and it was truly one of the best dining experiences I've ever had! The food and drinks were great but what really stood out was just how above and beyond the staff went to make sure we all had a great time. I was surprised with two different birthday cocktails that were very tasty and creative and an awesome tiramisu. Pro tip: If you are okay with one person in your large party picking up the tab, I highly recommend you ask to play credit card roulette. You won't regret it!

Yelp
We stumbled upon Capa Tosta driving through the neighborhood. Overall we absolutely LOVED IT! The ambience is snug and welcoming, the music was fun and up beat. drinks: We ordered the house red wine which was delicious and an espresso martini which was excellent! It had additional tiramisu liquor and was well made! Apps: we ordered fried artichoke and bruschetta. The fried artichoke was good, nothing extraordinary but the bruschetta was really nice. It came with burrata on top which was a nice touch. Dinner: ordered the eggplant parm (as a meal) and asked the owner to modify the gnocchi burrata to make with vodka sauce (which they kindly did despite it being a busy Saturday night). The eggplant literally melted in your mouth and the gnocchi was so soft! There was a side of Italian hot sauce that was excellent, something we had never had before. Dessert: cannoli and bombolini. The cannoli was to die for! Probably one of the best we've had and the bombolini was so yummy. The serving size for the latter was large so took the rest home. Overall a super cute date night, reasonably priced and excellent food & service!

Yelp
Just had a fantastic night at Capa Tosta with my girlfriend! We enjoyed Pesto Cavatelli, Rigatoni alla Vodka, and Prosciutto & Burrata. Delicious and authentic! Shoutout to our server, Arturo - super friendly and helpful! He joked that, being Italian, I should've known to get the Bolognese on a Sunday (my Mimi is probably rolling in her grave). Can't wait to try it next Sunday! Excited to hear their chef's opening Jojo's Brick Oven Pizzeria at 905 U St NW on 5/9 - can't wait to try it out! Seriously, if you haven't been to Capa Tosta yet, you're missing out! A+ for food, service, and atmosphere.

Yelp
I don't understand the high reviews. I've had worse, but I'd still consider this sub standard for pastas that ring up over $20 a piece. Really wanted to love this neighborhood joint. The predecessor Italian restaurant in the same spot was vastly superior. The Arancini were balls of paste. Nice fry but the texture just isn't right. It shouldn't taste like a refried bean ball. The chicken parm was not crispy at all, the chicken was gristly, and the marinara sauce lacked depth and needed more herbs, spice, and time to develop flavor. The pasta was al dente, though. The pesto cavatelli was fine but pretty one note. A tad too stodgy and not fresh enough. I'd give this a 2.5 star if I could. Won't be ordering from here again, much though it pains me.

Yelp
So, we went as a part of restaurant week. The red house wine had a nice taste plus a high alcohol content. We really loved the eggplant parm and the chicken parmigiana. I personally got the tagliatelle and it was just as good, though the chicken parmigiana looked more filling. The only criticism was that the food could have had a little bit more salt for added flavor. Besides that there's nothing bad to say about this spot. Pros: Intimate Vibe, Local Neighborhood, Great Service

Yelp
First time at Capa Tosta and it was delicious!! We could tell it was a familia owned small business by the attention to detail on each plate and quality of service/food. We received complimentary fresh bread with olive oil and cracked black pepper. The Crispy Artichoke tasted delicious with the fresh green sauce. The pastas were tasty and perfectly al dente. If you're a Nutella lover, you have to try the bombolini dessert. It literally melts in your mouth! We also got the orange sorbet which was so refreshing. We will definitely be back for more!

Yelp
We just happened upon this restaurant. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The vibe is quaint. Staff is friendly and professional. Great crafted cocktails. We had lasagna and the rigatoni arribiata - both were EXCEPTIONAL!

Yelp
Went in on a Friday night to meet some friends. Sat on the twinkly patio outside, had the charcuterie and burrata, and some apps. Staff were friendly, food was yummy, wine was flowy. . . great spot.

Yelp
I absolutely love this restaurant. It's cozy and casual with top notch food. The fritto misto was excellent. So delicious with the perfect texture. I was pleasantly surprised that I quite liked the zucchini in it. It had just the right amount or calamari, shrimp, and zucchini with calamari dominating the fish which is how I prefer it. My tagliatelle was quite tasty too. Service was friendly, and the food came out quickly. I cannot wait to return!

Yelp
Best Italian in DC. The pasta dishes are truly outstanding. Lovely and sophisticated ambience without feeling pretentious, cold, or commercial like some of their competitors.

Yelp
I've been to Capa Tosta several times now, usually with family. Every time we've enjoyed a great meal together, being welcomed in by Aldo on behalf of his family and the rest of the team. There aren't any gimmicks or things done for the sake of being trendy -- simply a menu with a nice variety of apps, salads, pastas and mains. As well as wines and a cocktail list with a few classics alongside some more unique house creations. The thing is, we're a family that shares, and without exaggeration every single thing I've tasted at Capa Tosta has been particularly delicious and well executed. At this point, that's most of the menu. The dishes are cooked with care and expertise. It's a family-run restaurant, with Aldo's mom ensuring that everything is flavored just right. There are no tricks or weird spins just for the sake of standing out. Yet things are a little bit tastier than elsewhere. Everything they serve has really hit the spot. The arrabbiata actually has a kick of savory chili peppers mixed in with the bright tomato sauce. The spaghetti vongole has the brininess of the clams balanced with the perfect amount of garlic and acidity from white wine. The orecchiette Pugliese features the pleasant bitterness of broccoli rabe dancing with sausage and ricotta salata. And the tagliatelle bolognese is hearty, rich, and lovingly made. The meatballs, crispy artichoke, eggplant parm, and fritto misto appetizers are all excellent. And there isn't a pasta that wouldn't please. The main dishes include a few standbys like chicken parmigiana and a daily special or two, which are also very satisfying. This is the type of place where you think you know what to expect, but things are just a little better anyway. Even the first time we visited, Aldo treated us like friends or family. There is a true feeling of hospitality, where we're not just customers but guests. All of this makes Capa Tosta an amazing place to have in the neighborhood, since it can make a regular evening turn into something special.

Yelp
What a great addition to the neighborhood! A great place to come for authentic Italian food, great drinks, and amazing service. This is a must try place if you're in the area and like Italian food! The ambience is very laid-back and welcoming, the food prices are perfect, and the portions are huge! This is the perfect place to come for a low-key lunch, or a nice dinner. Definitely recommend the chicken parmigiana or the penne alla vodka! The fried mozzarella is also divine! We will be back, and hopefully will have enough room for dessert next time!
