Western Australia for the Food Is the Next Great Food Lover's Destination

"A 128-foot stone tower that was manned by resident keepers until 1992, led tours by a storm-weathered guide who spoke of two on-site apparitions: "You smell old man and tobacco, with no rhyme or reason," and an incident in a former keeper's cottage where, after a woman died in childbirth long ago, "Every door opened and closed at the same time," the guide said, a story that converted skeptics into believers." - Kevin West Kevin West Kevin West is a writer, food consultant, and “canning evangelist” (according to NPR). He’s the author of the cookbook “Saving the Season,” and his work has appeared in Travel + Leisure, Martha Stewart Living, Condé Nast Traveler, Bon Appétit, and Food & Wine. A quiet and powerful place that really stays with you. We visited Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse on our own and it was such a meaningful experience. Standing at the point where the Indian and Southern Oceans meet is humbling and quite awe inspiring. The views are absolutely stunning, with rugged cliffs, strong winds, and the endless ocean stretching out in every direction. Walking around the lighthouse and the surrounding area at our own pace allowed us to really take everything in. The fresh sea air, the sound of the waves, and the sense of history made it a very reflective and peaceful visit. Well maintained grounds and incredible scenery make this a must visit when in Augusta. Definitely one of those places that reminds you how small you are in the grand scheme of things. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful time going up cape leeuwin lighthouse. The tallest lighthouse in mainland Australia. Definitely recommend it, just be prepared for all the steps up and down. Our guide was very informative and you get to really understand how life was back then. Great experience.

Nice day to visit the Leeumin lighthouse. It was a perfect weather. The area surrounding the lighthouse are well maintained. You are standing in the middle of two oceans, namely Southern Ocean and Indian Ocean with no need of trekking it through rugged terrain like those in the northern Australia. Suitable for all ages.

Most south Western Point of Australia. One of the most beautiful place can enjoy the Mother Nature. Light house built in 1895-6 and dedication to mariners 10th Dec.1896. Good please to have a coffee or lunch.

Amazing lighthouse. Great views. Highly recommended to take the guided tour to be able to climb the 176 steps to the top of lighthouse, see the first order lens and learn about the history of the site. The museum is full of interesting information and historical photos and artifacts. See where the Indian and Southern oceans meet.

Another once great (free) spot now commercialised. $20 for the family to walk closer than 200m to the lighthouse, but can't go in the light house, that will require a mortgage to be paid.....the museum has a couple interesting things, but still quite bare. Most of the info signs around the lighthouse are missing, which would be fine if it didn't cost anything....

What a gem. Cannot miss while in the area. Wind swept headland. Admire vast seascape and wild and untamed coastline. Lightkeeper's cottage well presented for viewing. Discover history through some short videos, lightkeeper's stories. This is the tallest lighthouse on mainland Australia.

We bought our tickets for Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse while visiting Jewel Cave, and the early booking was definitely worth it. The tour was incredibly informative, and the views from the lighthouse are fantastic — right where the Southern Ocean meets the Indian Ocean. I’m really glad I made the effort to visit. A tip: try to schedule your visit to avoid queues, especially in holiday season when coach groups can fill up the limited tour slots.

Yelp
Cool spot to sit and enjoy a freshly baked scone with cream and jam, over looking the lighthouse and the point where the two oceans meet! Plenty of options on the menu and snacks to buy also! Grab a grounds pass or tour pass and have a look around the lighthouse while you're here!
