As a Texan, I must say that the ribs and brisket are just okay. The sides are decent as well. I wouldn't recommend the cilantro peanut slaw or the seasonal sauteed vegetables. The desserts however looked phenomenal! The interior is very nice and clean and the people here were awesome! It was a good dining experience overall.

Delicious barbecue joint in Redwood City. The beef brisket was amazingly soft and moist, possibly the best brisket I’ve had on the Peninsula. Pulled pork was juicy, and the Mac and cheese and creamed corn were both very good. Fast and friendly service. Small parking lot with limited parking, though.

A Smokin' Good Time at Capelo’s BBQ! My first time dining and I'm hooked! If you're in the area and craving amazing barbecue, you've gotta stop by. I devoured the brisket – tender, smoky, and absolutely delicious. They have a great selection of sauces available to add extra flavor to your meat, and the pickles and pickled onions were a perfect tangy addition. My sides, mac & cheese and peanut slaw, were also on point. They've got great outdoor seating and a convenient beer spot. Highly recommend!

Google
Got the Dino Bites(2) and was not disappointed! One of em was a bit fatty but over all solid on the taste! Employees were all very nice. They were sold out of brisket so I didn’t get to try but overall I give those Dino Bites 9/10

These guys may have the best barbecue in all of California. Having been to many different states such as Texas, Kansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Georgia, and the Carolina’s I’ve been blessed on my pilgrimage to find the best barbecue in the country and I can admit these guys do things the right way. These beef ribs are so tender and flavorful, the Mac and cheese was creamy/cheesy and not bland. And they have so many different pickles and sauce variations from different states around the country. I love y’all and keep up the excellence! ❤️

Google
Fantastic brisket and delicious potato salad. We love, love, loved the peach cheesecake too. We picked up our food, ordering online. It was ready as I got there and the BBQ sauces were abundantly there to fill little dipping cups to take with me. We also ordered a few nights later and the pork ribs were divine. ❤️❤️❤️

Google
Texas BBQ restaurant in San Mateo. I went there for the first time on the recommendation of a friend who lives in this neighborhood. You order your food at the entrance and drinks are ordered at the bar inside. There are many local beers on tap and you can enjoy some interesting IPAs. The meat was a super huge Texas-style rib steak. You can even hold both sides of the bone and bite into it, which is a very wild experience. The meat was very tender and smoked, so it was very aromatic and tasty. The sauce was self-service and you could choose BBQ, medium spicy, or hot, so I went for BBQ or medium spicy. The BBQ was delicious, and the live music made it a casual and lively place to eat. The meat was delicious and I would like to come back again!

Google
AMAZING PLACE TO GO AND EAT The barbecue is very good for the bay area great options the place has such a home style feel and great vibes. They also have live music sometimes during the evenings and it just makes it feel that much more better. Recommend the brisket, beef ribs, and pulled pork. Honestly all of their meets are great you will just have a great time there

Yelp
First time trying this place and it didn't disappoint! Came on a Friday, they had live music and a very family friendly environment. We ordered the large family meal (6-8ppl) and it fed 6 adults and a child just fine. I will say at first I was concerned about the amount being enough so I did add an extra 1/2 chicken and 1/2lb of hot link. Ended up being more than enough and 3 people got lunch for the next day! :) Brisket was so soft and juicy, the ribs are tasty and fall off the bone, and their links are perfect! My favorite were the hot links (vs. the jalapeno). Corn bread is good, and the Mac & cheese very rich. They have the perfect bbq ambience- a big outdoor covered patio, but note their "indoor" seating is on high stools, so bot ideal for small children. There's small overhead heaters throughout, but still pretty chilly on a cold night. Service was quick. You order at the front and take a number. Good gets to you fast and everyone was overall very friendly.

Yelp
This place has awesome brisket. Super tender and full of flavor. They've got four different sauces to try, so there's something for everyone. I'm a fan of the tangy and sweet one. The customer service is really friendly, and they make you feel right at home. They only have outdoor seating, which is perfect if you're into that kind of thing, but not so great if you're hoping to eat inside. Parking can be a pain, though very limited spots, so you might have to circle around the block for street parking. Overall, great BBQ and a nice spot to relax outside. Definitely worth checking out!

Yelp
I don't always crave BBQ, but when I do, I'm going to Capelo's! Rated #33 in the country (I think), Capelo's BBQ is a fun place to be. It was my first time trying and we shared a 2 meat plate, which comes with 2 sides. Of course we tried the beef brisket, pulled pork, mac n cheese, and cornbread muffin. Shortly after ordering, the food was ready (literally in 5 mins) and we went to town. Portion was a lot smaller than expected, so I don't think the plates are meant to be shared. I saw other tables (who were eating family style) order meat by the pound and sides for the table, I think this is the preferred way. That one plate was almost $30, so it definitely isn't cheap, but it is tasty. Brisket was incredibly tender and the sauces were a perfect pairing. Did not care for the sides, would be willing to try other sides next time. Something that did stand out to me was their outdoor patio. It was so comfortable with the heaters on and I loved seeing their beer selection. Total: $27 Tip: Portions are smaller than you think. I believe they have live music on Fri/Sat!

Yelp
First time here, and I can already tell this is going to be one of my favorite spots on the Peninsula. When I pulled into the parking lot, I saw someone actually chopping wood for the cookers--now that's authentic Texan barbecue! Finding this level of barbecue along the Peninsula, or even across the Bay, is rare, so I'm thrilled to have discovered this place. I stopped in on a Saturday for a quick lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the comprehensive barbecue menu. I opted for the 3-meat plate (with two sides): brisket, Louisiana sausages, and pork ribs. Everything was perfectly cooked--succulent, tender, juicy, and full of flavor. While the proteins were outstanding, the sauces deserve just as much praise. The "Capeliente" was a standout; I loved it so much I went back for a second cup. The DiabloXX (smoked habanero and jalapeño peppers with ghost pepper extract) had a nice spicy kick, but it wasn't overwhelmingly hot, which I appreciated. I also tried the Porklicious South Carolina Mustard and Sweet Kansas sauces, but the Capeliente and DiabloXX were my favorites. The sides were classic barbecue staples, rounding out a complete and satisfying meal. The venue offers plenty of parking, along with indoor and outdoor dining areas and a bar. I'll definitely be coming back for more very soon!

Yelp
Brisket is melty goodness. Definitely order it. And the spicy BBQ sauce. The ribs were tender but I think it comes down to me not preferring smoked ribs, but if that's your thing you'll love them. The sides are alright but I think everyone comes in for the proteins. I got the kale slaw, for nutritional balance Had friendly interactions with all of the staff. The service is quick; I was pleasantly surprised even with it being as busy as it was. There's lot of seating and on the night I stopped in, there was a live band (score!)

Yelp
Capelo's Barbeque serves high quality BBQ. The brisket was tender and flavorful. The BBQ ribs was well seasoned, and there was a sauce station. I tried all of the sauces, and I enjoyed the spicy BBQ sauce the most. The BBQ chicken had meat sliding off the bone. The staff was friendly and helpful as well. There was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. At the outdoor dining area, you can see the big meat smokers, and the dining area is well-decorated. The manager came by and told us to come on Friday and Saturday nights for some live music performances. The schedule for that is posted on their website. Overall, I would say that Capelo's is one of the best BBQ restaurants in the Bay Area.

Cayla K.

Yelp
Ordered a two meat plate- brisket was so good. Jalapeño sausage was also good, just not as good as the brisket imo. Creamed corn was fine. Mac and cheese wasn't my cup of tea, my family enjoyed it though. You order and then seat yourself. The staff will bring the food out to your table. It's super casual but fitting for a bbq joint.

Yelp
12 stars!! The best most tender BBQ Here! Great sauces, pick the flavor and amount of heat!! Food is great, love the cilantro peanut slaw and potato salad. Always try to pick 1 side ... but fail. There is never room for dessert but I bit the Key Lime pie is divine! YUM

Yelp
Craving some BBQ and having a hard time finding one in the peninsula? Look no further! Capelo's delivers on bold flavors, juicy meats, spacious and upbeat environment, and friendly staff. From the brisket, to the ribs, to the delicious sides, Capelo's doesn't miss. Whatever you order, you'll be pleased with. There are no wrong choices here. The meat falls off the bone and melts in your mouth. The various sauces give you plenty of options to keep things interesting. The place is spacious and perfect for large gatherings as well as for those small groups or individuals looking for some delicious Texas style barbecue. The staff is friendly and quite efficient, even when it's busy. Overall, if you are in the mood for barbecue, this is the spot!

Yelp
4.5 stars for me but I'll round it up to a 5! I saw this place made Yelp's Top 100 BBQ spots in the US, and I knew I had to give them a try whenever I was in the area. My boyfriend and I got here during off-hours and we quickly placed our order at the counter for a 3-meat plate with brisket, pork ribs, and sausage with sides of coleslaw and mac and cheese. We were able to snag a table near the smoker in the back and went to work grabbing every single sauce they offer. My favorite sauce was the Texas style one, which was sweet and tangy with a good amount of kick. Our food came out quickly and oh man, were the meats juicy! Both the brisket and ribs were super tender and flavored well, but I didn't care too much for the sausage. The mac and cheese was a bit bland on its own, but paired with the meats, it was a perfect creamy addition to each bite. The coleslaw was just a basic coleslaw - nothing too special, but I also can't expect a coleslaw to be mind-blowingly good and different. I'd recommend coming here with a bigger group of people so you can sample all the different meats and sides they have to offer.

Yelp
Burnt ends. All day. Wish I could just buy those. The brisket is a bit dry but the burnt ends they come with are so good. They do work together though I guess because I could see the burnt ends alone being a bit too rich. The ribs are great. Tender, juicy, flavorful. With or without any sauce. We ordered smoked chicken but I got too full to try it. The Mac and cheese was okay. I've definitely had better but I'm here for the BBQ anyway. The key lime pie was sublime. Pleasant surprise since I'm always on the hunt for pie and most of the time, I find mediocre pies. This is the best key lime I've had around the area. Super nice staff. Would definitely return. I appreciate that there's a parking lot because food pickup nearby for other places is challenging on that block. Oh and way, way better than Redwood City BBQ.

Anna A.

Yelp
The first time I came here I wasn't impressed as the smoked bbq chicken (light meat) was so dry and flavorless. BUT I love bbq chicken so I decided to give it another try and I'm glad I did! This time I went with the smoked bbq chicken (dark meat) which was significantly better. The meat was incredibly tender, and it had a pleasant smoked taste throughout. I'm usually not a fan of chicken skin but their bbq is so good I had to eat it. As for sides: - I saw on the yelp instagram that their Mac and cheese was rated one of the best in the bay. Personally I wasn't too crazy about it alone but mixed with bbq chicken... amazing!!! - I love their baked beans!!! I thought, how good could beans really be? But they've mastered them. - the potato salad was such a hit! Super refreshing, creamy and flavorful. - for me personally, I would skip the creamed corn next time. It kind of reminded me of just canned corn, so I wasn't really a fan.

Anita T.

Yelp
Pros: The ribs are to die for. The perfect combo of flavorful dry rub and sticky caramelized glaze. Been to several bbq places here and also in different parts of Texas and have to say these ribs were some of the best I've had. Brisket was also good as well. Cons: Sides are ok imo. The potato salad was pretty typical and the Mac and cheese was kind of a letdown, felt kind of chemical tasting like it was covered in movie nacho cheese. The kids wouldn't eat it. We went on Father's Day and fortunately we ordered in advance- the waiting crowd was nuts. We were able to pick up with far less hassle but it didn't seem like they were well equipped to handle that volume of business. Other notes: Hot links are pretty mild but tasty

Yelp
I wanted Capelos to be great. I had it on my wishlist for a long time considering that it was Yelp 100 barbecue spot and not too far from me. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the expectations, but I absolutely saw why it has fanfare. The restaurant in ambience itself was fantastic. I would definitely hang out here and have some drinks with friends after golf game or just day drink there at their beer garden. They had a live performance happening midday on a Sunday and the vibe was real. The service was fast and it's nice that you could see the people working with the barbecue right behind the register. I'm always conflicted with tips at places like this, where it's counter service, especially given the high price points. OK, so here goes the food. I ordered: -three meat meal with brisket, chicken and hotlink (6/10): I was in the mood for brisket but I found it to be lacking flavor and quite dry. The same is true of the chicken. The hot link was great. The sides were ok. The Mac and Cheese was overly liquidy but had good flavor. The slaw was about what you'd expect. -Dino Rib (10/10): This behemoth was expensive and worth the price. It was a large rib as evident in the name. The rib flavor was fantastic, and the amount of meat was more than was in my whole three meat plate. The sauces were great especially the yellow BBQ sauce. They made the the chicken and brisket more enjoyable but I am one who believes that BBQ should stand alone and should not need sauce, hence the ratings.

Sheila E.

Yelp
Got the 3 meat platter and a chicken sandwich. If I had to choose one meat option, it'd be the pulled pork followed by the ribs then brisket then chicken. The chicken sandwich was just ok for me but the sauces made it really good. I think I prefer fried chicken sandwiches. Really loved each sauce. The Diablo XX Habanero Psauce sounded scary but really wasn't too spicy. The kale salad had too much dressing and was a bit sweet and tangy. The Mac n cheese and beans were also good. The staff brings out your order and it's self-service from there for drinks, cutlery, and everything else. There's an area to stack your dirty trays and soak your utensils in when you're done. There's a bar that's indoors that's set up to watch games while you eat/drink. There's a shaded area outside that is more for chatting and eating. And a smaller side with limited shade. I'll be back for sure!

Yelp
Locally acclaimed bbq spot has been around longer than I realized. Surprisingly beef rib and pulled pork were the stars even though brisket is a specialty we were drawn her for. Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3 Cost to worth it rating: 3 (on the expensive side, but good quality) Opentableable: no reservations Return worthiness: sure Eve award: best Flintstone BBQ Highlights: - Beef rib: special on the weekend, total flintstone monster bone, lots of fat but so juicy. 4.5 stars - Pulled pork: flavorful and tender even the southern hub approved. 4.5 stars - Chicken sandwich: grilled my 13 year old loved so much he ordered another. 4.5 stars - Smoked chicken: tasty and done well. 4 stars - Cornbread muffin; tasty, sweet, and a crispy crust. Only but greasy. 4 stars - Mac and cheese: looked bright orange and goopy so I wasn't sure but it was tasty and tender spiral noodles w velvety cheese worked. 4 stars - St. Louis ribs: not too much meat and bit greasy but liked the meat I had. 3.5 stars - Family meal 3 different meats,1/2 pounds each, and sides: good option - Variety of sauces: 4 versions, we liked the sweet or sweet and spicy mixed - Bar: had set of beers, few wines on tap, and others in fridge Midlights: - Brisket: thought would be the highlight but was dry and our least fave of our order. Burnt end squares were tender and great. 3 stars Lowlights: - Not much parking: only a small lot - Out of both desserts by 12:45pm on Saturday: hub's fave dessert is banana pudding and thought would order after our meal but was gone - Crowded: thought it would be larger as there's not much seating to call it a beer garden: tables outside and a few long skinny ones by the bar. Was hoping it would be a more fun and relaxing space to hang out in for an afternoon. - Creamed corn: not much to it but corn kernels in thin soupy whiteness. Only true food miss. 2 stars Glad we gave it a try and wouldn't be opposed to coming back for more--maybe on a weekday.

Yelp
Sometimes it's amazing and sometimes it really misses the mark. I don't recommend take out from here. It's not worth the small portions and quality. Dining in is much better

Yang Q.

Yelp
Fate would have it that we stumbled upon this place right before it recently made the list of Yelp's top 100 bbq places across the country. I've been a few times now, and it has not disappointed. You can get 1, 2, or 3 meat plates with 2 sides each, or a bowl with 1 meat + 1 side. You can't go wrong with the brisket or the pork ribs. Hot links are a tried and true option too. The jalapeño cheddar sausage is a little too cheesy and not enough spicy for me, but my coworkers like it. Even the grilled chicken, which we ordered for our toddler once, was juicy and flavorful. If you want the beef ribs, they're only available on weekends and you should probably order ahead online because they will sell out. For sides, I've tried all except the corn muffin (though highly recommended by our toddler) and baked beans. My favorites are the kale and cilantro slaws, mac and cheese, and potato salad. I would recommend a slaw + another side to break up the heaviness of the meal. And for dessert, the banana pudding was so good--and I don't even like bananas or dessert! There is a self-serve condiments bar--if you like vinegar based bbq sauces, I love the mustard one. The Diablo sauce is great too and honestly not as spicy as the name makes it sound. Love the outdoor seating area and the bar, which has a good selection of cans and beers/ciders on tap. Our food has always come out pretty quickly, and service has been very friendly.

Irene Y.

Yelp
Stop and make this your next spot for dinner! I drove by and always wanted to stop in and finally! Wow, , flavors, deliciousness, delicate bbq, I mean that in a good way. Service- so kind and chill. It was a hot night, but they served with a smile. Now going to be my first spot when craving protein! Smoked chicken, even for those who are counting calories can come here! The Asian cilantro peanut slaw so good. Wait, the pickles, I love the fresh pickles and the red onion pickle was out of this world.

Cin-Yee S.

Yelp
The sad lack of BBQ in California might be the only downside (ok, maybe also the HCOL) of our beautiful state, but it is more than compensated for by the whole "lucky to have rights that people in Texas don't" thing. With this spot and South Smokin' in Hayward, I'll be just fine. Childhood bestie Cheryll and I did a food adventure last weekend and explored the three meat plates and the beef rib. I ordered the jalapeño cheddar sausage, the brisket, and the smoked chicken with sides of macaroni cheese and potato salad. The mac was a bit salty (but has a fun cavatappi), and the potato salad is definitely Costco-esque (if it isn't actually the Will's SF potato salad), but the meats were perfection. No need to take my word for it - just look at the weekend lines! But they are running a smooth operation and the line moves quickly. Go treat yourself to some delicious bbq and beer in Capelo's lovely courtyard.

Derek L.

Yelp
It's a difficult task to find quality barbecue in the Bay Area, especially after you've been spoiled by the creations in Texas. However, if you want edible barbecue, Capelo's is a solid spot. I mean edible in the nicest way possible because so many places I've been to have just fell short of the mark, whether that means dry brisket or weirdly seasoned sides. Before we get to the food, I did want to point out that the parking lot is small and there is limited street parking so plan accordingly. There is a nice outdoor dining area that can accommodate some larger parties so it's a fine spot to have a little gathering. Our cashier for the day did have a little bit of an attitude though which deducted a star from the experience. Not everyone who comes is a regular so if we don't know that the sauces are off to the side, please be a little patient and kinder when instructing us. I observed this behavior from her as well with the fellow ordering in front of me. Now for the good stuff - the food. I was pressed on time and also a bit traumatized from bbq at other places so I went with ordering a smaller portion of food for the first test - understanding the quality of the brisket here through the 1 meat plate that comes with 2 sides. I chose the Mac and cheese and the potato salad. The brisket had solid smoke flavor and while edible, it cannot compare to stuff from Texas. The fat content of this meat just pales in comparison and the meat slices are also thin and small. Quantity of food was good though. As for the sides, the potato salad had the right amount of vinegar in it and then the Mac and cheese, while extremely orange, had a ton of smoky cheese flavor which made it very tasty. I would come back again. Personally I love pork spareribs so that'll be the next test for this place. But so far I think this is finally a spot that I wouldn't mind returning to with the caveat that I'll always have to keep in mind that it's not going to be the level of 'cue from the South.

Yelp
We decided last minute to have Mother's Day lunch a day early. Then the next decision to be made was what to eat. We had just discovered Capelo's two weeks earlier and enjoyed it so much that I suggested it. The third decision was what to order for six adults and three kids. Enough is never enough for us. Too much is just about right. Way to much gives us some leftovers to enjoy later. I saw that they offered Dino Bones on Saturdays and Sundays. I suggested three Dino Bones and Two Racks of Ribs plus whatever sides my brother felt like. He placed a pre-order and took my wife with him to pick up the food. We ended up with my suggestions plus 1lb of Juicy Brisket, Kale Slaw, Cilantro Peanut Slaw, Macaroni & Cheese and Baked Beans. Dino Bones - 5 - What exactly is a Dino Bone? It is a Beef Rib that comes from the Short Plate section of a cow's rib cage. You're probably more familiar with it in Beef Short Rib form. You're buying a huge bone with a large chunk of meat attached to it. One description from the internet is "the best brisket point (think juicy brisket) you've ever tried combined with the best ribeye, all on a giant handle". For sharing, we cut the meat away from the bone (it mostly fell off), and then cut each piece of meat into large chunks that diners could serve themselves from. This meat is so fatty and deliciously smoked that no sauce is necessary. Pork Spare Ribs - 5 - Two slabs of tender succulent ribs. Sliced up and ready to chomp on. No additional sauce needed. 'Nuff said. Brisket - 5 - We ordered this last time and it was delicious. It was just as good this time but the meat from the Dino Bone was even more flavorful. I skipped the salads this time but folks seemed to enjoy them. The Mac & Cheese was good. I liked that the pasta wasn't overcooked as some restaurants will do. The cheese kinda tasted like nacho cheese, which I like. Not as creamy as one made with a bechamel sauce but still pretty good. I found the Baked Beans to be too sweet for my taste buds but others liked them just fine. They also provided us with four pints total of three different sauces so people could dip to their hearts content.

Maribeth A.

Yelp
had a small family gathering and we opted for BBQ. we ordered brisket, spicy links, ribs, beans, corn muffin and it was all a hit. we were a bit disappointed that there was no bbq included in our order, but we managed.

Katrina P.

Yelp
We live in South City and have been trying to find a good BBQ spot to fulfill my brisket craving (which I've had for months now), and we stumbled upon Capelo's after my physical therapy appointment and thought about giving it a try. We went on a great day where it was sunny and BBQ was definitely fitting for the weather. From what we saw, seating was half inside, half outside type vibe, so if it's freezing definitely layer up. The cashier gave us great advice on what to order so my boyfriend got a three meat platter with brisket, ribs, and pulled pork and I had a two meat platter with white chicken and brisket. Our sides were potato salad, corn, coleslaw, and mac and cheese with both of us getting corn bread. It was DELICIOUS! We had such a food coma with all their foods, and we were able to try lots of sauces that caught our eye. Our absolute favorite one was the Texas styled spicy sauce (not too spicy with a good kick). They even have house made pickles and slaw! We can't forget a good cold hard cider to go with our BBQ, but they had all sorts of drafts. We are coming back to scratch our next brisket/BBQ craving!

Katharine Y.

Yelp
We've ordered to go because it's much convenient for us. The food are amazing, a little on the dry side but as sauce can fix that which they have different kind, don't be afraid to taste them before taking them home. The service is fast or at least I hope they have Togo pick up or online order separate line so you don't have to wait too long for the dining in peoples make up their mind. I understand they have a lot of food to offer which can take a while to decide. The ribs and brisket are delicious, worth trying out at least a full rack of ribs so you have enough to share. The place is fun, lively, they have band playing on some nights which is very entertaining for a night life type of thing, they have e outdoor seating which are nice on a warm day.

Juan D.

Yelp
Can a place be better than the first time I visited, yes! Once again, I was eating a meal and I did not want to end.

Julien H.

Yelp
A place like this is needed everywhere. This place got a sports bar, outside seating, live music on the weekends and amazing bbq when you need heavy proteins. Has a parking lot, has tons of people enjoying themselves etc. a great place to dine and get some bbq especially since it's usually mild/hot weather in this area.

Pamela K.

Yelp
I wanted to try Capelo's because IMO, there's a dearth of decent BBQ in the Bay Area. I don't love BBQ the way some people do because I find the taste of smoked meats often akin to gnawing on a burnt log. I didn't get that here. My husband and I both chose brisket because that's our gold standard for a first time in barbecue place. Ours was juicy and tender and flavorful. We tried all of their sauces and each had a flavor to recommend. I happen to like mustard based Carolina sauces which are difficult to find in California. Theirs was really nice. We particularly enjoyed their cornbread and peanut cilantro slaw as sides. I did not enjoy their mac and cheese. It was too goopy and cheesy for my liking. All together, I'd def go again and am looking forward to trying other cuts of meat when we have a hankering for BBQ.

Yelp
great taste starts with great product ... Capelos barbecue starts with exceptional meat and only adds to the goodness with their barbecue masters running the smokers that are visible from the open courtyard that is perfect for the family or just watching the game with your friend ....or better yet a quick stop in for one of their sours on tap ( on the way home from work ) Service was perfect / attentive and friendly and i'm not sure if it was just luck but as soon as my Brisket was ready ... the Grateful Dead came on over the beer gardens speakers .... needless to say i'll be tattooing Capelos BBQ onto my calendar ! Can't wait till next time !

Yelp
Let me tell you, we recently returned from Texas because we couldn't get our bbq fix, so once we got home, we went directly to Capelo's and it hit the spot. Delicious bbq!! The service was fast and our food was served to us almost immediately. The live music they had playing was a sweet surprise and the everyone appeared to have been enjoying themselves.

Yelp
I think this is a really good BBQ spot! I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch time here today. First off, it's located in a hidden area tucked in a corner street. It's easy to just drive by this place without knowing there's actually something here. It's not until you actually see the entrance to this place and once you're inside, it's a whole new place! There's a nice outdoor patio seating area with flat screens, string lights in the ceiling, a craft brewery sitting room, etc. I love the sauce bar which contains different bbq sauces that are inspired by Carolina, Kansas, Texas and of course, theirs. There's tubs of pickled onions, pickles, jalapeños, etc. I really like this! I ordered their brisket and pork tacos, Mac n cheese, hot links, and a cornbread. Their tacos are huge! I thought the brisket was tender and super moist. The meat broke apart nicely. The pork was a bit dry for me and didn't have that nice tender-stringy texture. Both tacos paired perfectly with each sauce. The Mac n cheese was surprisingly just ok? The cheese they use is different (can't explain it) and wasn't my type. It was somewhat creamy but other than that, it was a C-. The hot links were kind of dry and didn't have that spicy bite to it. These links were small bite sizes and just tasted very bland and subtle. I was expecting a thick, hot and spicy, flavored link. The cornbread was pretty good to me. This wasn't overly sweet and held together nicely. It was still moist inside and also had a nice sugary top layer. By the way, my meal literally got delivered right after I ordered! Each of our orders came within under 5 mins. It's like the team is always prepared. This place is worth trying and is an awesome place for all groups. I felt like I was at another restaurant in SoCal or something. I would love to come back and have a beer or two and munch on some tacos! I'll be back!

Yelp
I tried this food truck for the first time at work today at the Tesla factory. It did not disappoint. I opted for the two meat combo with hot links, brisket and double servings of potato salad. The hot links were nice and spicy just like I like them. They had a good selection of barbecue sauce. I fancied the gold barbecue sauce. The brisket was smoked really well and super tender. I got some in pieces mixed in with it that were nice and crunchy like I like them . The flavors of the meat were really good without any barbecue sauce. They have spicy barbecue sauce, sweet barbecue sauce, and the gold style. The price wasn't too bad, and the serving was more than enough. Surprisingly, the wait time for the food was relatively short, considering there was quite a long line. Definitely a good barbecue truck to check out.

Yelp
Friendly staff and fast service. You order and pick any place to sit. They have a parking lot on the side which is nice. Got 2 meat plate to share and it's enough for 2 people. (Tip: you can ask for tortilla on the side!) beef brisket was soft and flavorful and ofcourse can't go wrong with sausage. The cream corn and Mac and cheese were very tasty as well. I tasted all of the sauces and I liked the spicy one more than the sweet flavors. Definitely recommend giving this place a try.

Yelp
The food was pretty good. Two days ago, I went for the first time and the food was delicious. Definitely I will return. I Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Amazing bbq and cool atmosphere to hang out and catch a Niner game. The football was bad but the food made up for it. Attentive staff, good drinks, and truly live up to the hype of being one of the best bbq's in the state.

Yelp
Located near Redwood city Costo. Most of the tables are outdoors with some indoor and bar. If I am not mistaken, it serves texas style bbq. The workers are friendly. You order and pay upfront . It has rib, pulled pork, brisket, chicken, and hotlink. Love the ribs and brisket. The sauces are also yummy. It has a variety of sauces. From sweet to spicy habanero. For family meals, the price is by lbs of the meat. We didn't know until we have paid.

Yelp
Everything was tasty, both the meat and the sides. 4 kinds of BBQ sauces too choose from and they compliment each other well. Outdoor patio and indoor tables both available. We came on a Saturday afternoon and the vibe was perfect.

Yelp
Still drooling thinking about this food. I saw online that their mac n cheese was featured on the list of best Mac n cheese in the Bay Area and I 100% believe it. We bought the big tub of mac to-go and it was finished rapidly. The beef brisket and jalapeño cheddar sausage were also wonderful. We did takeout but when I went to pick up the food I enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. It's set up cute with lots of picnic tables and you really feel like you're at a bbq. 100% would dine again

Yelp
Love the live music. Fantastic sauces but the stars are the perfectly cooked brisket and pulled pork. Can't wait to visit again.

Yelp
I've been visiting Capelo's over the years going back to their food truck days at various Off the Grid locations. Their sauces were always the best part of their BBQ and that still seems to be the case. I return just often enough that I forget why I don't come here more regularly. I tend to really enjoy mac & cheese but I think they use beer in their process and I'm just not a fan of the flavor profile. While the brisket ends are typically great the sliced brisket they give is always dried out. Like every single time I come here it's super dry. While you want consistency in a restaurant this is not the type of consistency you want. This never happens at places like Horn in Oakland. The jalapeno & cheese sausage is pretty good as well as their potato salad and corn bread. Staff is always super friendly and their location is quite spacious.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this BBQ spot for the longest time and finally got around to it. We got the ribs, brisket, Louisiana sausage, mac and cheese, baked beans, and corn bread. Ribs were great and corn bread was solid. Brisket was composed of two cuts: thin dry slices and thicker cut fatty soft pieces. The later was more enjoyable for obvious reasons. Skip the sausage. That was the worst thing we ordered. The sides we ordered were very average. I saw them refilling the sauce bottles towards closing and they were refilling with a famous BBQ sauce brand, not something homemade.

Yelp
Came here for Father's Day and there was such a long line to order (40 min) and waited another 45 min for the food after ordering. Unfortunately, they sold out on their Dino ribs; so I ordered brisket, ribs, and sausage along with a couple sides (baked beans and Asian coleslaw. I wouldn't mind the wait considering it was Father's Day if the food was good. Unfortunately, the bbq was disappointing. The brisket was dry and the ribs were dry as well. Also, the meats were lacking in seasoning. There was a nice smoke ring on the brisket but that was it. The only items that were okay were their cheese sausage and the baked beans. Sorry, but I won't be coming back.

Yelp
I have had their food via a food truck, so I was pretty sure I would like their food at this brick and mortar store. While parking is a pain in the butt in this area, I was pleasantly surprised by how welcoming this place was. Not huge, but a decent sized place with a few large screen TVs and a nice beer menu. I will be hanging out here again soon. Pulled-pork sandwich: 4/5. Quite good. Served on a brioche bun.

Yelp
Made a trip to Capelo's BBQ from San Francisco with a friend for lunch. Staff is friendly, helpful, professional, with great service. They answered my questions and patiently waited for my order. I went with a two item combo of brisket and ribs with two sides - coleslaw and baked beans. Grabbed a hoppy IPA on tap. Everything was delicious and I finished it all. Tried three of their sauces (not the super spicy one) the pickles and onions. My friend and I both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and talked about returning for more. For me this is the best BBQ spot that I've been to recently. Tried some other places that I won't mention and have no interest in going back to them. Born and raised in the SF Bay Area many of my go to BBQ spots have closed for good. So I'm relieved to have found Capelo's BBQ. When I get that craving for some real BBQ I'll be back - until then I'll be dreaming about that brisket

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! My wife and I split a brisket sammich and a two-meat plate with brisket and pulled pork. The brisket was definitely the star! They have four different BBQ sauces and jalapenos, pickled onions, and homemade pickles to add to your plate. We loved the onions and pickles. Plus, a really great craft beer tap selection plus about 20 different canned craft beers. So glad we found Capelo's. The best BBQ I have found in the bay area.

Yelp
Came with a friend after we saw it on the 100 best bbq places list. We were a little underwhelmed after such rave reviews. We shared a 3 meat plate with brisket, ribs, and pulled pork. The brisket was good, ribs were pretty good, and the pulled pork was not very good. I appreciate how they have the pickles and jalapeños available for self service. If I were to come back I would just stick with the brisket.

Yelp
We ordered two BBQ Meat Board platters to go from Capelo's for a family gathering, along side a side of potato salad, key lime pie and creamed corn. After living in Texas for a while, I was hesitant that this BBQ spot could stand up to southern eateries- but it does pretty damn good. The meat tastes clean, tender, and pairs really well with the bbq sauces. Particularly, I really enjoyed the light red bbq sauce- had great spice. The stand out for me was the potato salad. I'm not a big meat lover, so it was a refreshing must order. The key lime pie was delicious as well. The crust has a unique tenderness to it. The parking lot wasn't crowded when we arrived- 3:30 on a Saturday, so I can't speak to any evening/lunch rushes. Even so, they still had a consistent line at this time. Overall the restaurant is clean, chic, and welcoming.

Yelp
Oh, great food and many sauces, pick what you want, eat inside , there's a bar area, or out on the patio. Watching the "BbQ master" load up the racks with seasoned beef was great fun, and you could tell what was coming out was tender - smelled so good. Fast service, quality food, choices of sides... How come I didn't know about this place sooner? You gotta go!

Yelp
Quick walk up and order service. The bar is behind the restaurant. The food is great. The pulled pork sandwich was served dry, so you choose your own sauce and pour it on. The ambiance is very casual, gas station-like almost. It was interesting that they did not have chili as a side dish option.
