First time here. It's like sitting in a library with no books or bank but bigger. It's described as "cozy" but cozy means "comfy" and couches, etc. It's mostly wood tables and chairs. This used to be a bank, I'm pretty sure, because there is an ATM inside for Capital One. And there were various enclosed places now called Nooks that I can only imagine were some kind of offices for different members of the bank staff back in the day. Signs say that you can go in them but that if they need it for a meeting, you get bumped out. There are tiny tables not attached to anything with no outlets for plugging in your phone or laptop. But, there are larger community tables where you can plug things in.
All in all, depending on where you sit, you can feel like you're in a big fish bowl. It needs more " cozy" ambiance. But as a converted bank, it's not too bad. There are even some seats outside. There is a limited menu Pete's Coffee inside. The drinks are okay.
Basically, this kind of thing was created so that people could come in and talk about bank services ... there are a couple of people that greet you when you come in just like in a bank and ask you if they can help you with anything. I don't know that I was their typical customer because where I wanted to sit I couldn't sit because there was a bank conversation going on I'm not really good with high tops and that's where all the plugs were so I looked around for a while.
Anything that you try to do there, basically they ask if they can help you.which is both a nice thing and kind of too much, especially if you're using an ATM. In my case I wanted to find a lower chair that was softer than wood, more comfortable but still had outlets nearby. There was a perfect one but somehow it was too close to where somebody was asking about banking so this guy who asked me if I needed help really listen to what I needed and relegated me to this spot facing a wall and near a trash can. That wasn't acceptable so I just quietly found my own spot eventually.
It's casual. I think that there are some people who are street people who come in just to take a break from the street. And other people that just come in to do stuff on their laptop computers. It's kind of a mix.
There were a couple of employees that I think were on the Peet's side of the business that were doing a puzzle together. That was kind of fun to see. I'm glad they could have fun doing that when something else wasn't needed of them.
One cool thing is that if you have a Capital One card of any kind, you can get half off on your Peets coffee drink. 50% off was a nice thing in an era where specialty coffee shops can cost $7+ for a drink. It was certainly refreshing to pay less.
The location where I was does not have its own parking lot, so I had to actually go into a lot that gives 90 minutes free, and after that, it's $2 an hour. So if you're going to sit there for more than that time that is free parking, it's going to negate the discount of the coffee, just FYI .
So I don't know if I'll be coming to this location again but it was an interesting experience.
