How the Espresso Martini Became Melbourne’s Essential Cocktail | Eater

"An Italian-focused bar in Carlton known for creative, regionally inspired drinks—most notably a tiramisu cocktail that uses clarified coffee-milk punch and muscat to recreate the dessert's flavors; the team deliberately uses a lighter filter coffee for its floral, vegetal notes and stronger acid structure to balance the drink’s rich, sweet elements." - Fred Siggins

Came here with a friend who was pregnant and our waitress was so well informed about the foods on the menu that my friend could eat, we were blown away. Food was delicious, the deep dish pizza was amazing with the Parmesan crust and the casarecce had a beautiful deep flavour. The salad was beautifully dressed and the pangrattato was a great textual addition. Wine selection was decent, the Barbera was particularly good. A must try restaurant!

Had a good time at Capitano. Lovely vibe for catching up with friends. Pls dont forget to try their pistachio pesto (a *chef's kiss* moment for me)! The calamari was perfect with those pickled peppers (I could eat a jar of those). And to top it all off, their tiramisu is one of the best I had in melbourne 😊

ORDERED: 🐟 Yellowfin tuna: preserved tomato, yuzu espelette pepper ($25.00) 🍕 The Sicilian Squares: cherry tomato, pecorino, olives, capers ($30.00) + hot honey ($4.00) 🍯 🍝 Tortiglioni pasta: with vodka sauce ($29.00) + parmesan ($2.00) 🧀 🍝 Campanelle pasta: spanner crab, capers, brown butter ($36.00) It was ~$52.00 for my portion here! REVIEW: 1. 🔁 Favourite was the Sicilian Square. Crispy, delicious base loaded with plenty of ingredients. The tang from the capers offset the slight sweetness of the tomatoes, combined with the saltiness of the olives? Sure it's a vegetarian dish but it packed a punch. 👊 You HAVE to add on the hot honey. A viscous sweetness with a subtle spiciness with every bite. It elevated the dish and carried the whole evening. 🧡 2. 🎺 Second favourite was the Campanelle pasta. The pasta shape was so fun! Looking like a little trumpet/flower, it was perfectly al dente and complimented the spanner crab perfectly. I'm a sucker for capers, and the simplicity of brown butter made it easy to enjoy. ❌ Would not order the yellowfin tuna next time. It was cut into long slices, where the fish was almost swimming in the oil. It became more 'gluggy' and I wasn't able to appreciate the quality. 🤔 Service was going well, until it was time to wrap up. Waitstaff were great at noticing when we finished our meal but after taking away our main plates, we were just left alone. Not even an offer of dessert menu or tea/coffee. We ended up wandering to the till because at that point, we were ready to leave. That also took a little time to get us sorted out as well. 🤐 A noticeable drop in service towards the end of the night. Would highly recommend booking! It seemed like Capitano had a full house for their Friday dinner service. 🌙

Lovely meal, restaurant setting and service. The fluffiest, tastiest focaccia I’ve ever had and the pistachio pesto sauce was incredible. October menu attached. Already planning the next visit!

Delicious Italian with a wonderful modern twist. Foccacias cannot be missed, delightfully pillowy with a dreamworthy garlic butter. The ever evolving menus currently holds a creamy lumache alla norcina pasta that is deliciously chewy and truffley. Pizzas did not disappoint with crunchy cheesy corners on the grandma's square and the garlicky smokeyness of the double-roni.

Firstly the portion sizes were epic! The pasta was al dente and that sicilian pizza..... one of the best around

Capitano delivered one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. The food was amazing from start to finish — the pizza was perfectly cooked and the pasta was absolutely top-tier. You can really taste the quality and care that goes into every dish. The service was just as impressive. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience feel relaxed and welcoming. It’s the kind of place where you feel looked after the moment you walk in. If you’re looking for great food, great energy, and genuinely great service, Capitano is the place to go. Highly recommend!

Interesting twist on the pizza. The rectangular pizzas were the highlight, with a crispy crust and a bouncy foccacia body. Pasta was also excellent.

Yelp
This is another one of those pubs that I have visited a couple of times, and I have to admit that it is pretty cool. Actually, it seems to have undergone further renovations since I was last here, so I probably can't comment too much on what it is like now (it takes me a while to get around to writing reviews on some places). However, hopefully little has changed, and the atmosphere is just as good as what it used to be.

Yelp
We stumbled across this good looking pizza place when walking past. Delicious pizzas with a twist. The tiramisu is the best I've tasted outside of Italy. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to another visit next time I'm in Melbourne
