We purchased a certificate from Fox 59 and finally made it here before it expired. I was not aware of how many different options they had. I didn't look at the menu before coming. The staff was all very pleasant and patient while I decided what to order. I ordered the fish and chicken meal. I was excited I could get the chicken grilled and the fish fried. Everything we ordered was AMAZING! Can't wait to go back!

I ordered the Caplinger Special Dinner, which includes two pieces of Basa, two hush puppies, and two sides. I went with fried okra and buffalo fries. I asked for my fish crispy, and it was cooked perfectly. I’ve tried many items here, and the only one I didn’t care for was the Walleye—too pricey to be disappointed twice, though it might’ve just been an off day. Overall, this place is a winner. Friendly staff, great service, and excellent food. Highly recommend stopping in!

The oyster po-boy was superb. Absolutely amazing so much fresh oyster, lettuce, fresh onions, a perfect remoulade to go with it on a perfect hoagie. And the crab cakes are to die for, best all around. The clam chowder is next level. I don't know how to describe it other than it tastes better than you can possibly imagine. It's my favorite thing I had today. It reminded me of old memories. Yours is the absolute best recipe and it's better than my own recipe my family makes. Everything was thoroughly made and seasoned to perfection. And acute attention to detail on everything. The condiments are Monarch. Everything at this market is so fresh and it's like stepping into a whole different state, one that is coastal with all of these options. The menu is extensive and the quality is unparalleled. The service was amazing and the staff were super friendly and nice. They also offer their own teas which are the perfect pairing with this delicious variety of seafood. This place is as fabulous of a market as it is a restaurant. I will definitely be back, thank you guys for one of the best experiences I've had. P.S. as you can tell the oysters are HUGE!

First time visiting. We were welcomed by a sweet young lady who explained everything got us a menu. We ordered a variety of things! Everything was delic! Tarter sauce is amazing. Batter was a little on the salty side but overall excellent experience.

My goodness....This is the first restaurant here in Central Indiana that's worth dining at. My catfish nuggets were so juicy and tender yet crunchy and flavorful, not overcooked and hard, just perfect. I'm savoring every bite of it 😋. Even the sides were super delicious. I highly recommend the okra and the green beans. I will definitely be back again. My meal was worth every penny plus more. Brought back good childhood memories 😌 And the customer service was excellent! All around 5 stars!

Had lunch at the South side location. I was a bit surprised by the building, I was expecting something a bit more modern. Order at the counter and they bring your food to the table. Get your own fountain drinks, but they do have bottles. I had a tenderloin (don’t like fish), red beans/rice and collard greens. I loved the tenderloin. It was thick with just the right amount of breading and piping hot served on a soft grilled bun. Really, really good sandwich. Sides were tasty and served hot. My companion had the Caplinger’s special sandwich, lobster bisque soup and baked beans. Sandwich was excellent but she raved over the soup. Restaurant/store was very clean and the staff was friendly, helpful and efficient. Will definitely be back. Sorry, no pictures. We dug right in and ate every single bite 😊.

Our food was tasty, my walleye fillets didn't smell fishy at all, they gave big portions of sides as well. A lot of fresh sea/lake products here are very interesting. The place feels clean too, definitely recommended if you feel like eating fresh seafood

First visit to Caplingers, and the gentleman behind the counter helped me out with my order. And even put it on ice for me, because I wasn't going to get back home for 4 hours. And I got the breading that they have and fried it up that evening. It was delicious!!!

Order before you sit down and they bring it to you. Quiet inside as most people we noticed ordered to go. We ordered fried jumbo shrimp, clams & fried cod with fried orca and mac n cheese. Overall pretty good...but Not our favorite. You should definitely check them out though...you never know until you try it!

The food was really good, we ordered the catfish and the grouper. The catfish was perfect. The fried okra was perfect. The hush puppies were good, though I could handle a few more onions and jalapeños in them. The macaroni was just ok. We ordered oysters on the half shell, but these were way too large to eat in this manner. They had a good flavor, and they would be delicious fried or some other way, but not really for the style that we were thinking.

The catfish sandwich or the shrimp po boy are always my go to dishes. Always cooked to order to perfection. The lunch hour probably isn't the best hour to go because EVERY ONE goes here for lunch lol. If you're in a hurry, call your order in ahead of time. It's not they don't have enough staff or the cook cooks slow, they just have a high demand! Definitely give them a try

Caplinger's Fresh Catch Fish Market never disappoints! Being from Alabama, it takes me back to my roots where our family had fish just about every Friday! The market is very clean, the staff are professional and friendly and the store manager, Vincente, is always helpful! Most of the time we do an order pick up and take the food home, but occasionally we will dine inside as we did today. The food is always fresh and delicious! Although the restaurant is pretty busy, the noise level is good and not too loud. Be sure to check this market out whether you want to dine in and have fresh cooked fish or stop by to pick some up to take home, You won't be disappointed!

SO good, everything! I think this is the first time having it for me. Where have you been hiding haha Hush puppies are good, crab is good, Mac and cheese, green beans, fish & shrimp. Next time I'm gonna have to get the gator bites and frog legs. Try the lobster and clam strips too. Unfortunately they were out of corn & yams yet they had corn BREAD We ordered online so can't say how the service was, but like I said I will defo order again

This local seafood spot is a gem for both the experienced cook or the hungry (like me). There's an extensive selection of fresh fish to take home & cook. The selection varies so get there early. For those who prefer their seafood perfectly prepared to dine in (there are 3 tables of 4 in the waiting area). The "dining room" has an additional 6 tables. This place is always busy at lunch & dinner time. The weekends are a madhouse. They are closed Sundays. Ordering online is recommended. I love the melts. The catfish sandwich is also delicious. Today I enjoyed the catfish nuggets. Yum! Try the hush puppies. You won't be disappointed.

Good, quality food but a bit pricey. The seafood is fresh, which is a feat for a landlocked area. Went a couple times and the cooked food was good. Definitely want to buy some fresh seafood but the prices are a bit steep for me. I lived by the ocean so these prices are more than I'm used to. But for the quality and freshness it's alright.

Last visit was not up to par with our prior years eating here. Fish was pulled too early out the fryer no seasoning on anything okra, fries, hush puppies with excessively creamy slaw.....Maybe it's because I did not add on a tip to my hundred dollars spent. Good‼No waitress No Tip It will be a short hiatus if not LONGER.......

This place is a hidden gem and one I wish I had known about sooner. Part seafood counter part restaurant, this place is packed with deliciousness! It is in a little strip that you might miss if you weren't looking for it. The people there seemed like regulars, and the casual atmosphere reminded me of a little seafood store in New Orleans, where life seems to pass a little slower and where the locals all gather. The catfish was to die for. Love this place!

Absolutely the best place to get seafood in the area, or any area that I've ever visited. Yesterday I ordered a lobster melt. It was glorious. Gobs of lobster meat. Huge. It was all I ate that day. For the price, it's unbelievable. Looking through the freezers and meat cases is quite the inspiration. Going back soon for some crabmeat. Plus these guys are really sweet and helpful.

I went to the Caplinger's on Pendleton Pike and was over charged for a pound of shrimp. Their menu listed the pound of shrimp for $23.99, I was charged $29 and some change so you might was well say $30. All of their prices are $1 more than the Shadeland location. They do not have any scales so I was told that I had to pay by the quarter pound. I was very upset and told the lady at the window that I felt as if I was being ripped off! I did not want to pay for the shrimp but my kids were hungry! I will never go back to the Pendleton location. No fresh fish or seafood.

Storefront with seating area at this location. Can't imagine any seafood item they don't have. Lobster roll was wonderful. Salmon was excellent. Counter service only, friendly and efficient. Ambiance is typical "fast food" setting. Constant stream of customers picking up online and in-person orders. Forget all that, when you get your food, you'll swear it's heaven.

First time I stopped in for lunch I was NOT disappointed. They have the freshest seafood around. It may be small, but it has the best seafood in town. I took my friends there on next trip. They were impressed with the food also. Service was pretty quick and all the staff were all very helpful. Hmmm, just leaving the review makes me think I need to go back really soon.

Came here a couple of weeks back with the in-laws and really enjoyed my meal! I was tempted by a lot of items on the menu, but I ended up getting the tuna melt, and it was very tasty (and affordable!). Next time, I may be tempted to spring for the lobster roll :) My wife got the filet from the Caplinger's Special (not the whole sandwich) and really enjoyed that as well. The restaurant also sells fresh fish if you'd like to cook at home. Overall, I'd definitely come back here, and I was impressed by the quality of the seafood given that the restaurant is located in Indianapolis :)

I heard great things about this place from many people. However, it was not my cup of tea. The seafood was just mediocre to me, it's your typical fried seafood place. When I walked in the employees were standing around and chatting. The area designated for to go order pickup I stood at for about 2 minutes and was not helped. I went around the corner and the guy then gave me my food. This place is half sit down and half actual seafood market. The seafood did look fresh so I might return to buy seafood if I'm in the area. I wouldn't make the trek from downtown to this area for it though. I will say that the clam chowder was the best part of my meal because of the fresh clams. I needed to season it a bit more at home, but other than that it was good. For the price and from other customers I've talked to- I just expected more and was let down. I'm hoping that I just caught them on an off day and that it's not usually like this but I'm not 100% sure I'd go here again in the future.

Best seafood in Indy Worth the wait if there's one And worth the drive if ya gotta I love the fact that I can order straight from the icebox and get something as fresh and made to order in Indy. 10/10 Must go Try the Mac n cheese!

So, we used to come to this place quite frequently because they have the best seafood in Indy. Still do in our opinion. Reason for the stars is the service. The service used to be very fast and you would receive your order within minutes after placing your order. Today it took well over 25 minutes to get our order and it was just for 3 sandwiches. The people that ordered after us were getting their "dinners" before we even received our order. When we did finally receive our food, it was cold. This is not normal for this location. I have never had cold food from here. I don't know what has changed since the last time we were here but it is definitely not for the better. Definitely disappointed at this visit and based on this visit alone, I am not really sure if I would recommend this place. If you are wanting seafood, you expect it to be fresh and hot, this was not.

Caplinger's Special Sandwich so good and so fresh. Ordered online and as I was walking in they were calling my name. The price is worth the quality and quantity. $15 for a huge fillet sandwich , large side , and a drink. This makes for a great lunch or dinner. Please eat here if your look for some good fresh seafood. The pie was okay. Could have done without. Very delicious

I was looking for some great seafood and found this place on Yelp. I ordered their combination plate which had fried shrimp, fried clams, and fried fish with some greens and mac and cheese. I had high expectations and it exceeded them completely. The fried seafood was crisp and fresh and so fantastic but the star of the show was the greens. I have had greens all over the south and these were to die for. They were cooked perfectly and were loaded with pieces of pork. It was delicious! If you want some great fried seafood with super sides this is the place!

Outstanding sandwich. Large portion of fish, perfect seasoning (blackened) and tons of flavor. Highly recommend and will be back for more.

Haven't been back for a long long time. The price increased around 1-2 dollars. The portion for sides seems to be decreased. Quality and taste still as good. Will always be back for seafood dishes

This was the best fried catfish and fried oysters I have had since moving to the mid west. If you're like me someone who moved from the south where we have catfish Fridays every Friday this is the place to try. I absolutely loved every bite of it.

Fresh fish and you can do fried or grilled. Whenever I have to go to the Community Hospital North area am sure to stop there for lunch. Family owned business.

Unsure if it was because we had carry out or not but I wasn't extremely impressed. It was good, don't get me wrong, but it was more on the average side. I think next time I try I will dine-in! The fries were delicious. I also think I could've ordered the wrong thing. I ordered the grilled shrimp dinner. My friends ordered fish and the lobster roll and we all agreed it was just okay. But willing to try again!

I think my family and I have been going here for 10 years. Every time we're in the area we make a point to go back. This time they grilled grouper for me and with a fresh squeeze of lemon it was awesome. We also got the tuna melt. It was delicious and unlike any other. The service was great because the staff was attentive, efficient, humble, and inviting.

Back to the 5 and on point with customer service. Newer staff has really helped the place out

This will include my third time here where I've spent well over 100 each time, when asked about their rewards program was I ignored. Why, if you have a loyalty program would you not recognize a patron for shopping at your place

Food was great.you won't be disappointed when it comes to taste and flavor. I do think it is a bit pricey.

This is not only the best seafood market in town but it is also the best seafood restaurant in town. I know. It's a hole in the wall and mostly self-service, but it's still better than all of the other seafood restaurants in town (I have been to them all). You can order off of the menu or keep it real by selecting your fresh fish and asking them to cook it for you. They will also shuck live oysters and clams for you. Don't go anywhere else for seafood. Go straight to Caplinger's.

This place is in my top 2 when I need some fried catfish. Caplingers has a nice seafood selection and I love that they give you options for how it is prepared I usually just get fried but their blackened seasoning is also really good. Their market also has quality products to purchase and make at home. My absolute favorites are the fried catfish and shrimp their sides are also really delicious. This is the only place that I order greens. It tastes like my mom was in their kitchen. The hush puppies come with the dinners and are also a must. You can even see the bits of corn n them. If you are not eating there I would suggest ordering over the phone or online their shadland location gets pretty busy.

Just updating a bit. In Sept 2022, they had a new item on their menu under "add ons" called "Hoosier Half Shells" and it is 3 oysters for $9.99. I thought at first it would be traditional oysters on the half shell but they told me they this was a cooked dish. It was a fun item to try. Pretty sizeable; 2 of us shared them with our other sandwich orders. #yum #ReviewsByRL

I'm not a fish eater but I do like their fish, and the service was good with a clean space to enjoy your meal.

Shadeland location. Is always fun to visit and has much to offer in fresh and prepared foods! The service is efficient. There is plenty of seating and the food tastes so good every time! Atmosphere is pretty good-they are always busy so be patient!

I do the traditional Italian fish feast for Christmas eve so I scout out the best places to buy it. I had looked at Caplinger's last year but since everything is marked price varies I assumed it was overpriced. I was wrong the price may vary but not off the norm. I bought the scallops, dry, which means they aren't stored in a preserving liquid which I think gives them an off taste. They were wonderful. Sweet large firm just perfect. Last year we went to Maryland to purchase fish for Christmas. Yes, I'm that fussy and there is a wonderful Moroccan place in Delaware we love. Next year ill start and probably end my quest at Caplingers.

I do not recommend the fried clams . I have purchased fried clam in California and I've purchased them in the grocery store, as well. The clam stripe is beautiful looking outside, but I asked three different people to check it out and it was tough, tough, that no one else could chew It takes 2 to 3 minute to chew 1 piece. I do not recommend this item at this place! The other food is great. The 1/4 pound for fried clam was over 12 bucks. I had to throw it away

Yuummmy! We tried this place for the first time this weekend and loved it! The clam chowda tastes exactly like I would want and expect my chowder to taste. Creamy with lots of clams. The fish sandwhich was deeeelicious. So tender and the bun was soft. I would order again with some remoulade sauce for a little extra zip! The okra is perfect. Enjoyed dipping it in the remoulade sauce. My husband ate the crab melt and loooved it. Its kind of pricey but they do stuff it full of crab! The casino clam bites were good but we didn't find that it was worth a 2nd order. However, by ordering them is how we discovered the tasty remoulade sauce! Mmm Would go back! Great, friendly service too!

Ordered cod, it was cooked fresh to order, hand breaded. I got to pick two sides, candied yams and red beans and rice. Food was fantastic.

This place is always good; I've never had a bad experience with it. I'm just popping in to say that I picked up a delicious oyster po boy to go and I was impressed how we'll travel and now freaking tasty it was. Warm, flavor-packed, crunchy, and delicious is the only way to describe this poboy, I crushed the whole thing, I'm a regular at this place and it has not disappointed me yet.

I will be back! Last month I was at the beach and haven't had seafood since. My shrimp Po Boy was better than any Po Boy I have had. I tried the Mac n Cheese and it was lovely too. My order was ready right when they said online too very nice service. So fresh this is a must for seafood!

I have had Caplinger's on my list of places to try for a few years now, but I'm never usually in the area to stop in. This past weekend, I happened to be nearby so decided to place an online order. The ordering process was quite easy (through a 3rd party site) and I had plenty of time (30 mins) to finish errands before going to the restaurant for pickup. Well, when I arrived, it was exactly how I expected it to be as far as the crowd was concerned. The business shares space with other businesses including a Starbucks and Donatos, so you can imagine how crowded the parking lot was at 5 pm. When I walked in, I could barely get near the register because it was so packed. Again - fine, I expected that. However, there was no way to determine where I was supposed to go for pickup. The register at the front door was for people buying raw seafood. I happened to overhear other people talking about who they spoke with to get their call in orders. So, I moved out of the initial line and finally was able to give my name to an employee so he could go in back to grab my order. It was ready and I was appreciative, because another impatient customer was expressing her frustrations to staff about how her order was not ready in the 15 minutes she was promised. Yikes. When I got home, I was disappointed when I opened my food (I ordered a catfish fillet dinner and a shrimp dinner). All of the fried food was soggy, and falling apart. My fish crumbled as I tried to eat it, and the taste wasn't great at all. The shrimp was ok, but soggy. Sides were ok as well - corn on the cob was decent and the okra was good. The yams were horrible. I took a bite and didn't finish. Overall, I won't be returning. I spent way too much money for lackluster food. There are way too many other businesses in the city to be let down with mediocre meals.

I have never had a bad meal or sandwich from this place. You always have an option of ordering your fish how you want it, fried, blackened, old bay, or creole. This time I picked the old bay on my fish sandwich and it was delicious. My husband tried the new seafood philly and the amount of crab and lobster was very generous, and the flavor was spot on! My son got the shrimp po boy and again there was a good amount of shrimp in the sandwich. The food is always made to order, so it's fresh and hot when it's served to you. This place can get really busy, and it's not always easy to find a place to eat inside I would suggest either going at off times or ordering it from their app and picking up. But you need to eat here!

This food at this place is absolutely delicious...l have never had Grouper fried to perfection other than when my family fry it. I had the Grouper sandwich with a side of baked beam and a mango tea. Let me start with the sandwich...1. The fish was fresh (not been sitting around at anytime), hot, seasoned perfectly and fried without any oily residue. 2. The baked beans were slightly sweet but paired well with the sandwich and they give you just enough to balance out the fish. 3. The mango tea is unsweetened but l used half a packet of Sweet n Low and it was very good and not bitter after tea taste. My meal was heaven, the place is very clean, the staff is genuinely nice and appear happy but best of all the whole place smells wonderful. Thank you Calinger's for the experience l loved every minute of it

Love this place so much. The quality is simply outstanding. The King Crab is pricey, but unbelievable and worth it. Cajun Krab Dip and Smoked Tuna Salad are a must. They have two lobster tails for $25, which isn't bad, but they are small. Plan to add other items to your menu. Haven't had the fish yet, but will try soon. Thank you Caplinger's!
