The 18 Best Restaurants in Santa Monica | Eater LA

"This Ocean Avenue staple is neither cheap nor particularly hip, but that’s no concern for owner Bruce Marder, a longtime Los Angeles restaurateur. This tiny restaurant’s unending stream of customers drink and eat through a menu of fine wines, robust pastas, and wood-grilled meats. The dining room tends to cater to a low-key Hollywood crowd, in case one’s looking to spot a celebrity or two." - Matthew Kang

This place has been around for a LONG time and it is totally understandable. It is truly delicious and charming. It’s got some old world vibes and a real cozy atmosphere. We sat at the bar (which I highly recommend) and the bar tender/server was awesome. She gave us great recommendations, was super friendly, and even suggested things we didn’t know we could do (like 1/2 portions of two pastas and split everything). In the age of ‘fine dining’ meaning a tasting menu…go here for culinary delights you get to choose for yourself. Also…no time limits! We were there for 3 hours and it flew by but we never felt rushed.

I would say it’s one of the best Italian restaurants in Santa Monica, but it does have some issues. It’s really small and intimate on the inside, you feel like you are eating in someone’s house. It reminds me of a few restaurants that I ate in when I was in Italy last so it had a very authentic feel to me. I am also half Italian so I feel I know good and bad Italian food. The issue we had is that a lot of the items are overpriced. For example steak tartare is $48 and a simple grilled Branzino is $85. For these prices we all felt the food wasn’t special enough to justify the prices. They don’t have a parking lot but metered street parking is easy to find or your other best option would be their valet for $15. Our server was very polite and all of our items came out very quickly. They were a bit slow on the drink refills, but aside from that everything else was very fast. I started off with the Filet Mignon Tartare and it was very good, although it didn’t have any spice to it so wish it had some mustard or horseradish to it because it felt a little dry to me. Also expensive for $48 which I don’t understand, but I did enjoy it. For my entree I chose the Bucatini with Lamb Ragu and it was fantastic. The portion was a bit small but it had really great and deep flavors. After I finished with the Chocolate Soufflé and it was A+. I truly loved it and would highly recommend ordering it. Overall a nice dinner in a beautiful location although it is overpriced. I would recommend but the price points are really strange.

Google
I don’t often write reviews, but this experience warranted it. The restaurant’s excessive pricing overshadowed what could have been a great evening. While the food and atmosphere were above average, the overall experience was marred by pretentiousness, leaving us disappointed on our anniversary. You simply don’t get what you pay for here. **TL;DR:** Expect $160+ bottles of wine, $36+ wines by the glass with tiny pours, entrées starting at $85, $13 water, a 20% “optional service” charge on top of a suggested tip. Let’s begin with the drinks. As soon as we were seated, we were handed an enormous wine list where you could count the sub-$200 bottles on one hand. The majority were priced well above $400, with some exceeding $3,000. If you prefer to bring your own bottle, there’s a $75 corkage fee—the highest I’ve encountered. The wines-by-the-glass menu didn’t fare much better, with the cheapest red at $36-$40. We opted for two $45 glasses, only to be served pours that were almost comically small. When I asked the waiter if he could top off my fiancée’s glass, he appeared puzzled and added just the tiniest splash. At this price point, you’d expect a generous pour. Worse yet, there wasn’t even a cocktail or beer list to fall back on, making it risky to order a drink without knowing the price. The real kicker came when we received the bill. A 20% “optional service charge” had been added to “pay the waitstaff a living wage.” I assumed this functioned as an automatic tip, which seemed fair enough. But after my card was swiped, I was handed the receipt again with an additional line for a tip! For a restaurant charging $85 for an entrée and $160+ for wine, it’s frustrating to be made to feel responsible for subsidizing the staff’s wages. If you’re charging such premium prices, staff compensation should already be covered. If you can't pay your own staff a "living wage" at the prices you charge, you need a financial consultant. It left a sour taste and detracted from the whole dining experience. We won’t be returning. There are plenty of high-end Italian dining options where you won’t feel taken advantage of.

It feels like walking through the door & being wisked on to a vacation far away. The art is fabulous. The ambiance is delightful. The staff was great. Then there is the food.... absolutely delicious! They bring a basket of breads to make anyone that still eats carbs in SM very happy - definitely "carb worthy". The Ditalini Rigate Amatriciana was so flavorful with perfectly crisped bacon. The Vitello Saltimbocca Capo was decadent is such a good way! It is very rich, which made it great for sharing. Between dinner & desert they served an assortment of cookies. The peanut butter one was my favorite. Then.... ohhhh the Chocolate Souffle worth each and every calorie of that fluffy, yummy cloud from heaven! We look forward to bringing friends & loved ones back to share it with.

We visited this place for breakfast on Friday morning. Short walk from JW Marriott. Wait was 10mins. We ordered omelettes and pancakes for kids. Great food. We ordered freshly squeezed Orange and grapefruit juices as well. We will be back for breakfast again.

Google
This is a tough critique to write because the management staff were very courteous, and worked me in to an otherwise busy Wednesday night. Still, wait for service was long and I was extremely disappointed with the pasta, which was average at best, but came highly recommended. Not only was it, “just OK”, but it came with an undisclosed price tag of approximately $250. I had read the reviews and was prepared to pay $150 pp. Here’s the thing: they told us their portions were very large [not true] so we decided to split that pasta. For 1 truffle pasta, 2 glasses of wine, and 1 dessert, including tax and tip, our total was $450! You can get bigger servings, with more truffle, for half the cost, and still enjoy a legit Italian restaurant experience, at Locanda Positano. Chocolate lava cake, cream & ice cream, was very good. Wine was as well. Good thing or I would have rated two stars.

Google
Don’t go here. I got the ravioli and couldn’t finish half of it because it was the worst pasta I’ve had in my life. Wanted to spit it out when I first tasted it. The dessert was so plain, no decoration and tasted so average and it was very expensive. I also didn’t finish that. They also charge for water? Very pricey restaurant with worse Italian than Olive Garden. I left with an empty stomach.

Google
Best service I’ve ever experienced in Los Angeles. Felt right at home the moment we were seated. My partner and I split 3 pastas. Conveniently separated and brought out one at a time. Wonderful.

Yelp
Celebrated our anniversary here and the service was impeccable. The ambiance is cozy, unpretentious, and refined. The food was perfect and the portions were larger than I anticipated. The feeling inside the restaurant was relaxed, yet the quality of service was perfect. Thank you for a memorable evening!

Yelp
Good lord. Right when I thought I'd tried all the best Italian food in LA, I get humbled by simplicity. Tonight, I was invited to Capo by one of my top restaurant connoisseur friends, and a pretty well-known businessman. We had a late reservation, which I initially thought was odd that he was ok with, but then he assured me, "Trust me..... with Capo, it's worth the wait." That alone told me this was going to be anything but typical. Now, my friend is part of the uber-elite, so my experience may have been slightly skewed. Even though I made the reservation myself (a "nobody"), the host's tone may have shifted when he realized who I'd be dining with. The service was exceptional, reminiscent of the high-brow hospitality found at the Peninsula in London, the Four Seasons in Hong Kong, or the highroller VIP desks at the Bellagio or Wynn in Vegas. It is a proud, almost restrained service style that could be mistaken for pretension by some, but for me, it was a mark of their finesse and experience. Capo's decor isn't your classic Italian, but rather an eclectic, high-end display of art that feels both intentional and eccentric--think Andy Warhol meets Ian Schrager. Every piece works together to create an ambiance that feels luxurious without cliché. Capo's focus on simplicity is where they shine. By using the finest ingredients with precision, they achieve an incredible depth of flavor in every dish. Portions are refined, a nod to European dining where quality in small quantities reigns supreme. Here are my food highlights: - Rigatoni Tartufo Ragu, is probably one of THE best pasta dishes I've ever had. The aftertaste lingered so well, that I almost avoided dessert to preserve that sensation on my palate. If there is ONE dish you must try, it is THIS. The flavor is absolutely passionate, as if to kiss you back. 11/10. - Corn Ravioli, is another fantastic dish. Unfortunately for me, we were having dinner family style, and they paired this with the tartufo ragu, and I had already fallen in love with the other dish. But this ravioli, is easily the twin sister paramour. Soft, gentle to the palate, I never thought a "corn pasta" could taste so indulgent. 9/10. - Grilled octopus, was absolutely outstanding. I almost misbehaved tonight, and took more than my fair share, but I also didn't care. If you love your octopus, this will easily be one of your favorites. 10/10. - Chicken pomodoro, was another showcase of simple ingredients done to perfection. Beautifully presented and almost too good to share. 10/10. We finished with the chocolate soufflé and tiramisu--both excellent, though I admit I was still savoring that rigatoni. Capo isn't cheap, but neither is flawless craftsmanship. Like the Maine highway sign that reads, "The way life should be," Capo's mastery of simple perfection leaves you feeling this is how Italian food is supposed to be.

Yelp
Very surprised by the high ratings this restaurant has. I'll preface this by saying that we love to dine out and are very accustomed to high pricing at LA restaurants. While Capo had a nice vibe and the food was tasty, it was extremely overpriced. You can't get a glass of wine for less than $35 a piece and it's far from a generous (or even standard) pour. In fact, we had to say something when we saw the waiter pour the wine, because it was a bit unbelievable (offensive even). When asked to top it off, he looked at us bewildered and poured the tiniest splash, making zero difference. The value is not quite there with the exorbitant pricing. The experience was fine, but overall, it's not very special. They also include a 20% service charge "to pay their employees a livable wage" AND ask for a tip on top, which really rubbed us the wrong way. While we support wait staff receiving a livable wage, that shouldn't rest on the guests to cover in addition to the expectation that we tip on top of that. Your money can go much further at other incredible Italian spots in the area (Barrique is a must!)

Yelp
Food was ok. There are better authentic Italian restaurants all over the city. The meatballs were way too salty and they were so small. The seared foie gras was ok - nothing to rave about. The lamb ragù was ok. The short ribs was not tender enough - it still had a chew. I was expecting fall of the bone, but it wasn't. The pumpkin ravioli was forgettable. Eggplant parm - nothing special. The chocolate soufflé was fluffy & tasted good at least. The place is small and can get stuffy when full. Menu is in Italian only & price is much higher than many Bev Hills Italian restaurants- you won't see any young crowd or influencers here. But you may bump into your friend's parents or aunts. Our waiter was off that night. Was trying to tell me that the Polpette on the menu was the octopus - he was nice, probably just an off day. $70 corkage fee. Valet only with fee.

Yelp
Went on a double date and ordered the toro tartare, grilled octopus, two different pastas, wagyu, ribeye, and berry cobbler. The two pastas and the ribeye were out of this world. Would definitely get those again. The other items were fine, but didn't stand out enough for me to want to order them again.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! I loved their truffle ravioli special and this salmon tartar thing. The service was impeccable. Can't wait to try more.

Yelp
On short notice they were amazing!! ! They put us at a table squeezed in when they really didn't have the room. That was sooooo kind!! The food was PERFECTION!!! And the wine recommendation was SUPERB!! Kosi Brown pino noir is a new favorite! Service impeccable. Capo should be on the 10 best Italian places in America! Loved the original art! The Italian rustic charm was endearing! Good Gracious, the food stole the show it was so good!

Yelp
Great service, delectable food. Quality is their mantra. Atmosphere is warm and the decoration original but not overwhelming. It's perfect. I recommend the wagyu zabuton and of course the berry crumble for dessert. Been here a few times and it never disappoints.

Yelp
Cap catered our surprise beach engagement and went above and beyond to make it special. They were extremely helpful with organizing and even walked some of the food to the beach. Amazing service--I highly recommend them

Yelp
I don't miss much about living in LA, but Capo is one of the few. I've never had a bad meal here. Everything from the food, to the service, to the - ambiance is top notch. The restaurant is very unassuming from the road, vut once you enter you'll understand. I personally prefer sitting inside- there's art everywhere (even the glassware) and the bar is super intimate and comfortable. However, there's also a nice patio (since covid). While the food/drinks are expensive, it's worth it for the experience. The wine list and cocktail menu are out of this world, and the complimentary tray of cookies at the end of your meal are always a delight. Additionally, if you can't decide on a pasta dish, you split a dish to contain 2 which is so appreciated. Some of my favorite dishes: - White corn ravioli with black truffles -Rigatoni with truffle meat sauce -Artichoke hearts -Souffle -Grilled caesar -Octopus Some things to note: - Definitely make a reservation (even for the bar) - If you bring your own wine it's a $75 corkage fee (there was one instance that we were not advised of the price prior to them opening it which was a little frustrating, so just be aware)

Yelp
I discovered CAPO by a local that told us it was one of the best restaurants around this area and he was right, I LOVED IT! If you live in LA or you just visiting but want to have a nice, elegant, intimate dinner away from the craziness and business of other restaurants in the city, this is the place. The room is small but cozy, it has a chic bar and there's art in all the walls. The server was very attentive and knowledgeable. He made us some suggestions about some cuts of meat and fish that can be cook in a fireplace-grill. On your way to the restroom you pass by the open-fire grill and can appreciate how effortlessly the man cook each cut to perfection. We ordered the tuna tartar, the corn ravioli and the branzino which was OUTSTANDING! It was cooked in the fire-grilled that gave it the smoky taste yet so tender. Everything was delicious. By the way, the wine-list is incredible, so many options. To pair with our meal we had an amazing white wine (chardonnay) that the sommelier suggested for us from Burgandy. The whole experience was lovely and we are definitely coming back.
google avatar

Krystina K.

Yelp
The food here is fantastic. One of the best restaurants in this area! The white asparagus was amazing

Yelp
Out if town guests, trying out this restaurant. Saying it was awesome is an understatement. We had the best experience from service to food and ambiance. Everything was way above expectations, which where high!! Our server Demetri guided us through the menu, had great suggestions and was so kind to explain everything. My husband and son got to look into the kitchen and watch everything made from scratch. Our food was delicious. We had the crab cake, rigatoni, fettuccine (special), fillet mignon and espresso martinis. All was delicious and we would order again. 10 out of 10!!!

Yelp
Wow. Very intimate restaurant. Perfect for small groups or date night. It's full of vintage art. The waiter was very insightful about wine and the menu. I got the filet and it was worth the price. Well worth the price. One of the best steaks I've ever had. The appetizers were good too. And of course had to finish off with the chocolate lava cake. stunning.

Kamiar T.

Yelp
Very in professional restaurant. I left bunch of messages for reserving table for dinner but no one calls back. All you get is leave a message and we will get back to you which they never do. WAIST OF TiME

Yelp
This place is the epitome of the thinking: "It's super expensive so it must be super good." I am blown away by how many good reviews this place has to be honest. It must be because everyone ends up spending so much money, they have to tell themselves it was good to justify it, and keep from crying that it was such a waste of money. It is either that or these people have no idea what really great, gourmet food tases like. As a psychologist, I have to believe it is the former where people think that if they are paying much more for something, it must be good--but let me assure you, it is not. This place has everyone fooled. A group of 4 of us dined here February 3, 2024, to celebrate a friends bday. From the start we were met with a maitre'd /manager John, who had a holier than thou attitude, and was irritable and angry for some reason. We had a lovely waitress, however, when we apparently were taking too long to order, John stormed over and forced us to give him our whole order immediately, and then directly asked the bday girl what she wanted for her dessert, ruining the surprise. Now I have been to LOTS of the top 50 restaurants around the world, many 1 and 2 star Michelin restaurants, and lived in Switzerland for 3 years, so I know what amazing food looks and tastes like, and am not afraid to pay for it. The food here, based on the price, is an absolute joke. Their prices are similar to 2 star Michelin restaurants, yet barely come close to a 1 star...which makes me wonder why this place doesn't even have a star. The food was average at best, considering the ridiculous prices. The waitress and other service staff were great, but then it was ruined when John literally would start clearing people's plates while they were still eating. The piece de resistance was when two minutes after paying the bill, John once again angrily came over and literally told us we had to leave because they needed the table--truly remarkable. At that point, he completely ruined whatever semblance of a nice evening we had, and it became abundantly clear why this place doesn't have any Michelin Stars, or any class. Please don't be fooled by the delusion that because this place is so expensive, it must be so good. Save your money and go elsewhere, there are SO many much better quality food and service restaurants in LA for the money.

Radio G.

Yelp
I was leaning toward a 4 due to the fact everything was excellent but the prices were too high. But I bumped it up to 5 because of the quality of the steaks. A lot of places in Santa Mon under deliver on steaks so that gets these guys the 5. Having said that the chicken and other meats here are just OK. I would pair one of their pastas with a steak.
google avatar

William Y.

Yelp
Food is OK. Nothing to brag about. Definitely, not worth the price they charge. I have had much better Italian food costing less than half of what they charge. Service is again OK. Not worth the 20% tip they forced on to your bill. They charge 20% tip even for a party of 2 and their service definitely not warrant this much. Does not offer regular water only Sparkling or Still which they charged heftily. They watch carefully on your water consumption and will keep filling your glass. The inside seatings have a nice homy feel. The outside seatings are terrible and dark. Can hardly read the menu. Overall, they charged like a Michelin starred restaurant but their food and service is where you can find at any local Italian restaurant. Not worth a try.

Yelp
Capo is an elegant 5-star experience...with outstanding food, romantic ambience and stellar service. Food selection is outstanding...all amazing choices for appetizers, fresh pastas, various meats, seafood, and of course desserts. We loved their cocktails and the server suggested some fantastic bold red wine that we enjoyed, and our favorite dishes included: Octopus 'al forno' Piccante Romaine 'alla Griglia',Tartufo Bianco Caesar (wonderful smoky flavor) Corn Ravioli, Tartufo Bucatini Lamb Ragu Prime Rib Chop Short Ribs Chianti Hot Apple Tart The atmosphere at Capo is intimate as it is a smaller restaurant - and I recommend dining in the main, formal dining room. Capo is not a restaurant to be missed when in Santa Monica. Amazing food, great service, awesome cocktails and wine, with a fantastic near-ocean Santa Monica location.

John E.

Yelp
I love this place! Between the winter and the sommelier and had a fabulous pairing and sharing for four.
google avatar

Erickka G.

Yelp
The Caesar salad was ok. The pasta was ok. The salmon was DELICIOUS. I'd come back again for the salmon alone.

JJ S.

Yelp
Longtime favorite - low-key & quiet/relaxing. Don't come here and pinch pennies. Enjoy yourself and have a good time. It's nice to get away from the crazy hustle and bustle of other restaurants in this area. Kind of feels like Sun Valley or Aspen - definitely recommend if that's your vibe.
google avatar

William A.

Yelp
Hands down one of my favorite Italian restaurants in LA. You really can't go wrong here. The wine list is phenomenal, and the food is original/high quality

Ron H.

Yelp
I'm giving Capo 3 stars for overall value. Prices are sky high then they have the balls to add on a fee to help pay for employee benefits ? How pathetic. Pay your own employee benefits just like the rest of the employers in the country. Why are employee benefits my problem ? Don't tell me you don't want to add to the cost of the menu items, you already are overcharging. Imagine if every time you check out at Home Depot they add on to the receipt for employee benefits, how would that go over ?

Yelp
Love this place and have been a customer for years, but after a recent experience, I am unsure if we will return. - We were seated outside despite requesting inside. Yes, there was seating. -The server was nice but had the dirtiest apron on. I mean it was so gross. -The wine (an expensive bottle) was not decanted until we asked. -The server kept the decanted bottle in the back and disappeared for a long time. He came back & asked us if we wanted another glass as there was a "little" left. Huh? We had a new bottle, had 1 glass each, that leaves 2 full glasses of very expensive wine. He apologized and poured the rest of the bottle into the decanter.. -The food was ok, but not the amazing meals we used to have. - Overall I hope this is passed on to the owners as we would love to come back with some improvements.

David K.

Yelp
Food is ok but those prices.. Wow. Insane and just average Italian food. Come on guys. How can an insalata misto salad be $22. How can chicken and mushrooms cost 75. How can a slice of chocolate cake cost $24. And I agree the owners talk about a living wage and you must pay 20% tip. Are these guys serious! Believe me they can pay the servers a living wage when they charge $89 for Dover Sole. Lastly, it is annoying that when you order dinner they force you to order desert at the same time. They say they are concerned they will run out of deserts. But clearly they don't want you to linger over desert.

Yelp
A Santa Monica staple and under the radar scene, unlike Giorgio Baldi. Food is amazing and excellent quality. The best restaurant on West Side for high end Italian dining. Special occasion or weekend splurge is well worth it. I don't leave many reviews and saw some reviewers not leaving 5 stars is absurd. Largest wine list I've seen and the som always recommends excellent wine. Order the grilled Caesar, veggies with burrata, ravioli and rigatoni and you will have a perfect meal. Fish and grilled meats on their fire barbecue grill are amazing. Add the blackberry crumble and you'll be on cloud nine! I would recommend snagging a table inside if you're able to experience the fun contemporary art vibes.
google avatar

Blake K.

Yelp
Ambiance: dim and romantic scenery. Pretentious crowd. Service: multiple waiters, neutral. Not kind nor mean. Their decanter is the size and shape of a wine bottle, which I think was meant to be a water pitcher. For the price of their wines I'm surprised they don't have better equipment and wine service etiquette. $75 corkage fee... Food: grilled caesar salad was delightful. Pastas were average. The pastas at Barrique, Colapasta, and Pace are significantly better. Deserts are not bad, not memorable. Overall: for the amount I spent, you could dine like a king and come away much happier at the other restaurants I mentioned above.

Yelp
Fabulous milieu, fabulous service, fabulous food and fabulous prices. This is a great restaurant so you must evaluate the prices in view f the excellence.

Armine' A.

Yelp
Incredible food, staff and ambiance. What a great place to celebrate special occasions! They have wine collection not many do so if you are into wines, you must be here! We also enjoyed crab risotto which was out of this world! I am already looking forward to my next visit!

Yelp
We made a reservation here through Open Table. We were going there to celebrate my husband's birthday. When we got there, they were closed! Not sure where the mix up was but I called and left a message and the manager actually called me back about 20 minutes later (after we found another restaurant). He simply told me that they had never been open on Sundays and he hoped I wasn't scammed. Sadly, he didn't say anything like we should try and come in again or he was sorry this happened. Everyone I tell this story to is shocked that he didn't say anything about taking care of us if we tried to come in again. So we have a bad feeling about the level of service even though it likely wasn't Capo's fault. Is your restaurant so good that you don't need to be bothered? We ended up eating at MEAT just down the street and it was fabulous!!! And they gave us a free dessert after we told our story!

Yelp
Not a place worth coming back . Prices are high for the quality and portion of food . For instance , a Caesar salad is over $30 and portion is small so we had to order 2 of those for 6 people. Although, I did like that the Caesar had grilled lettuce and they chopped it up for us . The heirloom vegetables and burrata was over $40 and between 6 people we each got a small spoonful . Corn truffle ravioli and gnocchi were good but also small portion and over priced . They ran out of the bone-in rib eye which was disappointing so we ordered a different cut and asked to be cooked medium . It came out well-done so we sent it back to get a new one which took another half an hour. They ask that you order everything ahead and they course it so when we got our mains and the steak wasn't cooked properly , we had to wait again for that course before moving in to dessert . We got the chocolate volcano and berry crumble for dessert and I think that was my fav part of the meal. It took a long time to get our food overall. Our reservation was at 7:30pm and we left at 10:30 pm . One thing I did appreciate is their unique plates and cup designs. Gave the place character but I still feel there are better Italian places in Los Angeles with better food and better prices.

Miss V.

Yelp
I will preface this by saying the food was lovely. The prices however are outrageous: an average of $45 for a small pasta plate. While I understand living wages, it seems excessive.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing!!! Celebrated Hubby's birthday here. The ambiance was intimate and sophisticated. Even with Covid measures in place and tables being place outside, they didn't miss a beat. The quality of food was immaculate, and reminded me of my favorite Italian restaurant in Washington, DC - 'Filomena's'. Service was top notch. My Favorites: - Maryland Crabcake Torta - Corn Ravioli, Truffle (So good we ordered another helping) - Coleman Farm Tomahawk Pork Chip Alforno (Go with the recommended chef preparation of 'medium') * Last note. While seating is outside because of Covid - bring a sweater, it gets chilly at night.

Yelp
Rarely does a restaurant exist where everything is spot on! Capo is just that. You enter the restaurant through a large rustic wooden door, two sets of heavy black velvet curtains, and boom! surprised by a spectacular and magical dinning room. Low-key lighting with spots of colorfully original art and a very vibrant choice of music for an extra sexy touch. Immediately you know it's going to be a wonderful evening. Frank the manager and maître d', is the perfect representative for this place. He made us feel special and comfortable from the moment we walked in. He also made noticeable rounds, checking in often and offered his incredible knowledge of the menu. Our waiter and the entire staff was friendly, gracious, professional and super fun! The meal was so incredibly original and delicious! Contemporary Italian cuisine of the highest next level. You can tell that everything was creatively designed with so much love a care, right down to the incredible plates. Wow! What an exciting adventure! So good, so delicious, so interesting and fun!! Yes I highly recommend Capo!!

Yelp
I wonder if 5-star reviewers for this place ever had a decent meal, let alone a proper Italian dinner. There is absolutely nothing in this place deserving of anything approaching five stars. The menu is unimaginative and bland. Prices are ridiculous even by already high Santa Monica standards. There is no ambiance or scene to speak of unless you care to watch sugar daddies and their surrogates dine. Oh, and the music - let's just say that if enjoy BJork, you'd really love it. In no way did the music enhance the dining experience. Pasta Pomodoro (I.e., kids pasta) is $33. Was not even house-made pasta. The risotto was as flavorful as cardboard. Bland chicken - $45. I can go on, but you get the gist. I've been fortunate to patron best restaurants on both coasts and have no issues with high price tags when they are warranted. Dinner at any pizzeria would have been more delicious and authentic than this place. The place is an absolute joke. Stay away.

Yelp
Came here for dinner with my finance. The ambiance is incredibly cute and very cozy inside. However, if you come for the food it was ok... We had ordered the steak, pasta dish (pepper based) and their French onion soup. This place is incredibly pricey. The steak was ok, very blah with no flavor. French onion was not impressive and the pasta was good but very original. We honestly loved the ambiance and service but food is just not impressive :( They need to update their recipes...

Yelp
I was treated to dinner here the other night. What a disappointment! The prices are absurdly high, the food is not great, nor is the service, the wine list is offensively overpriced and the Decor is nothing special. The Italian Dinnerware has seen better days, it's chipped and scratched and the bathroom is in the kitchen... yuck! I could go on but all of the other 1, 2 & 3 star reviews generally mirror our experience.

Yelp
What a joke. The prices on many menus are "very high," bordering on ridiculous. but this place?! this place has THE MOST obnoxious prices for the most average food you've ever seen anywhere. Dover sole $88. $88!!! there is nothing you could do to a Dover Sole to make it worth $88. Bowl of pasta $36. (a box of pasta is $3!) Then they ADD a 20% service charge to the bill so that the kitchen staff can get a tip ! you'd think the $88 would cover that! The service was mediocre at best. there is no way i'd ever go there again! No. Way. Go on line and see the prices and the unimpressive menu for yourself

Yelp
I've personally never experienced the food or place here, but we have reservations for tonight, and both my kid , husband and sister got sick. We called to cancel the reservation 4 hours before the time we were set to go there and the manager of the restaurant was not only so rude about us needing to cancel, but also not being accommodating at all. When my sister explain that she wanted to be respectful to not get others sick he said she was trying to " strong arm" him. Definitely gave us a bad taste in our mouths and will not be trying this place.

Yelp
This place. WOW First thing first.... sweet corn ravioli ... mic drop ... Must order .... who came up with this dish ? The most tastiest of all ravioli's I've ever had in MY LIFE... Ok, moving on ... we took a Lyft to get here since staying by the grove and you aren't sure where the entrance in. Super hidden and majestic. I love it. You walk in and there's these huge velour/velvet drapes that are hiding the little gem even more. It gets better .... You enter and you find yourself in a unique space of art and random pieces the owner collects from everywhere he travels. This place is on the smaller side but has the intimate setting like you're dining on the beach alone with a candle. Just you and your guest and the delicious food you're about to experience. We came on the earlier side of dinner at 645/7p and it was perfect. We ordered the meatballs and grilled Caesar romaine for appetizers. Uffffff ... need I say more ! Just try it. You won't be disappointed. I do like fresh ricotta with my meatballs but they had none left after the use of making their pastas/dishes for the evening. A good sign since it's probably brought in every day fresh. Next up .... sweet corn ravioli. People, do NOT be afraid to try this. It's in the lightest sauce you can imagine and is going to knock your socks off ! We also ordered the spaghetti carbonara. Was good but next time would try something else. Dessert ... apple tart. Did I mention it was a warm apple tart with delicate ice cream to compliment. Yummy !!! Make sure you tell your waiter while ordering the main meal as this takes time to bake. Thank you for an excellent meal Capo ! We will definitely be back !!!

Yelp
Simply the best. The corn truffle ravioli is cooked to perfection and the sauce is incredible.

Yelp
I left hungry. The portions were extremely small for the price. To put in perspective, I'm a small female, and I had two appetizers and one entree (1/2 the Rigatoni Tartufo Ragu & 1/2 corn Ravioli, Tartufo). The corn ravioli came with exactly 12 small raviolis. The artichoke appetizer was painful to eat because it had a hard shell, and it was difficult to negotiate the tender pieces from it. The octopus appetizer was OK, except the photographs online are misleading, as the portion was much smaller than any photos I saw. The Tartufo Ragu was great with the exception of small size. The corn ravioli had truffle shavings although I would have preferred a truffle mixture instead. They also ask you to decide on desert when you're ordering your meal, and you apparently can't ask for desert after your meal. Do not recommend.

Yelp
Oh. My. God. One of the best meals I've ever had. We started off with the meatballs and calamari, which were simply amazing. Both entrees were full of flavor. For entrees we had the rigatoni white truffle, Tescumseh chicken, and bucatini lamb Ragu. Each of the entrees were so flavorful and rich. Dessert was their homemade caramel ice cream, and berry crumble with fresh whipped cream. Everything tasted great, there was nothing bad about this meal! In conjunction with the amazing food, service was GREAT. Everyone who served us was so attentive, intuitive, and nice. We will definitely be coming back! Roger and Frank, along with all the other staff made us feel welcomed, and took great care of us. FYI: if you're in a rush, don't come here. Our dinner was about 3 hours long. The restaurant intends for your dinner to be thoroughly enjoyed.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious!! Placed a delivery order for a stay at home dinner spread during the covid era and even though it was to go, everything still tasted superb! Nicely packaged and presented. Dining in would definitely elevate taste, but was not disappointed with a bunch of packaged boxes of yumminess!
